Vždy na něm bylo něco strašidelného. Měl krásnou tvář a vždy se usmíval, ale jakmile promluvil, tak vás začalo mrazit v zádech. Lidé, kteří ho potkali, měli potom často děsivé sny. Navštívil jsem jej jednoho prosincového večera. Venku už mrzlo a jeho domem se šířil podivný zápach. Žil sám, hluboko v lesích. Přivítal mě mile, přesto jsem se měl na pozoru. Vyšli jsme ven a na zahradě jsem si všiml vykopané díry. To je hrob pro tebe, řekl mi a potom jsem přešel na druhou stranu, na onen svět.

Mám to takhle pokaždé, když poslouchám nějakou novou kapelu. Nechávám se unášet na krvavých vlnách a poslouchám pozorně. Hororový příběh z úvodu a debutové album norských death metalistů HORRIFIER se mi ihned spojili v jedno. Nahlédl jsem zase jednou do záhrobí a užíval si pořádnou porci morbidních melodií. 


Pánové mě vzali na dlouhý výlet do devadesátých let minulého století. A udělali to velmi elegantně a zkušeně. Pokud uctíváte k smrti smečky jako REPULSION, AUTOPSY (nověji pak OBLITERATION, SEPULCHER, INCULTER, CONDOR), i zásadní kapely severského smrtícího kovu, bude vám dobře i ve společnosti HORRIFIER. Vše je podřízeno jedinému. Pohřbít vás zaživa. Kapela si dala velký pozor na zvuk. Ten je opravdový, prašivý, nahraný ve starých katakombách. Zaujme i obal, který krásně doplňuje pochmurnou atmosféru celé desky. Je to hniloba, špína a smrt v nekonečných křečích. Už jste někdy navštívili místo, kde byli pohřbeni oběti násilného činu? Pokud ne, tak ani nemusíte, stačí přidat hlasitost a naplno si vychutnat album "Horrid Resurrection". Novinka je protkaná velmi temnými a hororovými náladami. Jako když jdete lesem a do ticha zazní výkřik lovené zvěře. Zastavíte se a zjistíte, že kolem vás je staré pohřebiště. Je už tma a z děr začnou vylézat nemrtví. Líbí se mi, jakým způsobem kapela přistupuje k muzice, oceňuji, že dokázali do skladeb vložit zvláštní neklid. Zanechávají po sobě krvavou stopu. Jasně, podobných skupin dnes běhá po světě velká spousta. Jenže HORRIFIER jsou trošku jiní. Je hodně znát, že pevně věří své morbidní práci. Zhasněte všechna světla a vydejte na cestu bez konce. Je jedno, jestli jste živí nebo dávno po smrti. Všem novou nahrávku doporučuji. Mokvající, syrový a děsivý death metal, u kterého začnete hnít zaživa! Nemrtví povstali!

There was always something creepy about him. He had a beautiful face and always smiled, but as soon as he spoke, you got chills. People who met him often had scary dreams afterwards. I visited him one evening in December. It was freezing outside and a strange smell was wafting through his house. He lived alone, deep in the woods. He greeted me pleasantly, yet I was wary. We went outside and I noticed a hole dug in the garden. That's a grave for you, he told me, and then I crossed over to the other side, to the other world.

I get like this every time I listen to a new band. I get carried away on the bloody waves and listen carefully. The horror story from the intro and the debut album of Norwegian death metallers HORRIFIER immediately merged into one for me. I took another peek into the afterlife and enjoyed a good portion of morbid melodies. 

The gentlemen took me on a long trip to the 1990s. And they did it very elegantly and expertly. If you worship to the death bands like REPULSION, AUTOPSY (and more recently OBLITERATION, SEPULCHER, INCULTER, CONDOR), and the essential bands of Nordic death metal, you'll be fine in the company of HORRIFIER. Everything is subordinated to one thing. Bury you alive. The band has taken great care with the sound. It's real, dusty, recorded in old catacombs. The cover artwork is also impressive, and it beautifully complements the gloomy atmosphere of the whole album. It's rot, filth and death in endless spasms. Have you ever visited the place where the victims of a violent crime were buried? If not, you don't even have to, just turn up the volume and enjoy "Horrid Resurrection" to the fullest. The novelty is interwoven with very dark and horror moods. Like when you are walking through the woods and the cries of hunted animals are heard in the silence. You stop and find an old burial ground around you. It's already dark and the undead start crawling out of the holes. I like the way the band approaches the music, I appreciate that they were able to put a special restlessness into the songs. They leave a trail of blood in their wake. Sure, there are a lot of bands like this running around the world today. But HORRIFIER are a bit different. It's very clear that they believe strongly in their morbid work. Turn off all the lights and embark on a journey without end. It doesn't matter if you're alive or long dead. I recommend the new record to everyone. Wetting, raw and terrifying death metal that will make you rot alive! The undead have risen!

Interview - MARTYRDOOM - An ancient doom death metal ritual that will make your bones crumble into dust!


Interview with doom death metal band from Poland - MARTYRDOOM.

Ave MARTYRDOOM! Greetings to the underground. I hope everything is fine with you. It should be because this year you have released a second long-play full-length album in your band's career. I have to admit it has literally blown my mind. It is dark, energic and as if it cuts by the sharp edge of the knife. I can hear from the record you did a really good job and you added a big portion of the talent, too. How do you perceive the new album in comparison to the previous one? Where did you want to move and in what are these two records different?

Greg: Hailz! Thanks for the kind words about the new record and thanks for having us do this! I know that it’s a cliché, but for us, the second album is certainly more mature and more thought-out. It’s certainly more coherent than Grievous Psychosis, it doesn’t have re-recorded tracks and only like two have been written more than a couple of years ago. So it’s still fairly fresh for us. Also, I’d say that it’s more angry and mournful.

„As Torment Prevails“ includes all attributes of good death and doom metal. For me personally, it represents the record, which I really like to listen to. How did you produce it? How look the writing process of new material in the case of MARTYRDOOM?

Greg: So, some of the tracks were kinda old (Garden of Flesh, Festering Existence), but majority of the new record was written in 2021 and 2022. From the outside perspective it seems like we were writing a new album for 6 years, but between lineup change, pandemic and a time for just playing some live gigs - for us it’s closer to 2 years. Once we’re focused, basically every other week, someone has a draft for a new track. And this is how we wrote the material - someone brings a draft version of a track, and we process it together. Even though “As Torment Prevails” has just been released, we already have started writing new material.


Who is signed for recording and mastering? I have to confirm that the sound literally kills. It keeps making me turn up the volume on the hi-fi tower. You have a sound that's harsh, raw and dark and animalistic at the same time. How was it working with you? What studio did you record in and how did it all work?

Greg: Thanks! I’m really glad it turned out that way, because we were pretty feisty about it during the mixing process. We recorded the majority of the album in Chróst Studio, which was pretty known for all major pop and rock stars in the 2000s. The owner, Winicjusz Chróst - guitarist of legendary polish band Breakout, unfortunately passed away in 2020. The family decided that his legendary studio shouldn’t stay closed, and allowed Sociak to be a resident engineer there. This allowed us to record the album using fully analog and tube gear, which translates to the sound.

An important part and a kind of extra bonus for fans today is the physical CD. You released the new album at CD in label Memento mori, and it comes with a demonic cover art. The author is Ryszard Wojtynsky. How did you choose the motif and how does it relate to the music at the record?

Greg: We worked with Ryszard Wojtyński when we were releasing “Grievous Psychosis” and we knew that we wanted his artwork for “As Torment Prevails”. After he agreed, we sent him a rough mix of new tracks, along with the lyrics. We had a brief talk about the themes on the album (grief, mourning, violence) and our favourite album covers and he created an oil painting based on that. He sent us a draft painting with an explanation of what he’s going to do further, we added some notes on what we like or see there. Next was the unveiling, and to be honest we were shocked at what he did. He basically exceeded our expectations for the cover, to the point that every band member has the copy of the painting framed at home.


I have been wandering the underground for over thirty years and I still go to Poland for music with certainty. I think we have a similar nature and taste when it comes to metal. I like your bands a lot and I monitor your scene carefully. Maybe I envy you a little, because we only have a few death metal bands that are worth it. How do you explain that death metal are doing so well in your country? How do you perceive your scene, fans, labels?

Greg: Honestly, from my perspective, the majority of “bigger”, or rather recognisable bands are playing either black metal, or something combined with it. Or another variation of 2000s era Behemoth. Of course, we have some great underground bands and labels, but I’d say they mostly get overlooked in the sea of mediocre black metal acts that are another deviation of what Mgła or Furia are currently doing. I certainly envy your scene, especially the festivals! Been to Brutal Assault like 4 or 5 times, and of course let’s not forget a mecca for every extreme music maniac - Obscene Extreme! Been there like 5 or 6 times and it always feels like coming home.

You play doom death metal influenced by, among other things, the old school. Today, the band can't avoid comparisons, but I would like to know how the idea to start MARTYRDOOM was born, who was and is your metal idol? Where do you want to move your band? Are you attracted to large foreign festivals, for example, are you willing to go on tour with a more famous band?

Greg: It was born like any other band made by 17 year olds. We started as Deathlust in 2010, as a group of friends that wanted to play metal. We started by playing covers of Metallica, Sepultura, Nunslaughter and Hellhammer, and when we began to write our own material it leaned more into the side of death metal. Our music evolves with us, and with what we are or were listening - we found ourselves in death/doom, and it stayed. I’d say that the major inspiration (that is not as obvious as the typical death metal inspirations you can hear) for all of Martyrdoom is anything that Tom Warrior did. We love his approach to music, that puts emotions first and that even the simplest sounds can create a sonic mayhem. In terms of the future, who can say? We already started writing some new material, and from what we can tell at this moment - it will be more downtuned, and less schematic. We are trying to leave the scheme of tracks laid as ABABC, and trying to experiment a little. Of course it doesn’t mean that we want to go progressive way, more like we want to leave writing “songs”.


When I started my website six years ago, I had a vision that I would try to support bands that are not so much popular, or they are lost in underground. To let the world knows about them. I think I'm doing quite well, at least according to the responses. How do you approach the promotion of your music? Do you rely upon the label or do you send the CDs for various reviews by yourself? For example, I buy albums that I really enjoy. What about you? Are you also fans who often support your colleagues? Do you go to concerts?

Greg: I think that you are doing a tremendous job man! We are doing a bit of promotion by ourselves, but we’re not that really into social media. The “market” is oversaturated and (at least for us) it’s really tiresome to break through the thousands of new releases every month. As for doing our part in supporting the scene, we are of course going to various gigs (maybe not as much as we’d like, but hey, that’s life) and buying merch from our colleagues. We know that they are doing this from passion, just as we do.

On the one hand, today the new band has a lot of opportunities to make themselves more known, but on the other hand, there are a huge number of groups and the fans are getting lost in this big metal sea. A lot of people just download mp3s from the internet and instead of to visit the concert they prefer to spit poisonous saliva on Facebook. How do modern technologies affect you as MARTYRDOOM? What do you think about downloading music, google metalists, streaming music, etc.?

Greg: As I said in the previous question, we’re not really fans of social media. In the case of streaming services, I treat them as convenience. Or rather as a necessary evil. If you don’t have a presence in streaming services, you don’t exist. If you think about it, it’s kinda bullshit that you have to pay different companies (that are owned by the streaming services) for the “privilege” to put your music out there. Meanwhile mega-labels are getting promoted by Spotify (or any streaming), so the line can go up. Bunch of bullshit if you ask me. But hey, at least our music has a chance to reach a broader audience. On the other hand, I’m from the generation that started discovering music by downloading MP3s and reading online zines and blogs. But of course, as I grew, I started just buying music and merch from the artists I wanted to support. And this continues to this day - I’m using streaming services, but I’ll always try to support artists that I want. Be it by going to the gig, or buying their stuff directly from them, not from the label. I might be delusional, but I think that extreme metal fans are always supportive of the music they love.


I like to ask the musicians what death metal means to them. How would they define it, whether it is more the philosophy and lifestyle thing for them or "just" relaxation? What does it mean for you? How do you perceive and experience it?

Greg: I often joke that death metal is the single greatest thing that ever happened to me, haha. For me, the essence of death metal are the raw, unbound emotions that come with the music. Even with “mid” death metal, you still have the aggression that you don’t have with any other genre. I don’t know about philosophy and lifestyle, but I guess it also plays a huge part in my life, since it has been embedded within me for so many years. I can certainly tell that I love, that death metal scene is so chill.

Finally, a classic but important question. What is MARTYRDOOM planning in the upcoming months? Where can we see you at the stage and when will you visit Czech republic?

Greg: Writing some new material so the fans don’t have to wait another 6 years for a new album, haha. On the serious note, we’re probably going to promote As Torment Prevails in the upcoming year, do some merch and maybe try to put it out on vinyl. We don’t have any concrete plans yet.

Man, we never played abroad - if someone wants us to come, then we’re open for invites. And we’re cheap! We’ll play for gas, grass and booze.

Ave MARTYRDOOM! Zdravím do undergroundu. Doufám, že je u vás vše v pořádku. Mělo by, máte na kontě letos druhé dlouhohrající skvělé album své kariéry. Musím se přiznat, že mě doslova přikovalo na zeď. Je temné, energické, řeže ostrou hranou nože. Je hodně slyšet, že jste odvedli skvělou práci a taky velká porce talentu. Jak vnímáš novou desku v souvislosti s vaší prvotinou? Kam jak jste se chtěli posunout a v čem jsou podle tebe nahrávky odlišné?

Greg: Hailz! Děkujeme za milá slova o nové desce a děkujeme, že jste nás pozvali! Vím, že je to klišé, ale pro nás je druhé album určitě vyzrálejší a promyšlenější. Je určitě ucelenější než Grievous Psychosis, nemá znovu nahrané skladby a jen asi dvě byly napsány před více než pár lety. Takže je to pro nás pořád poměrně čerstvé. Taky bych řekl, že je víc naštvaná a posmutnělá.

„As Torment Prevails“ v sobě obsahuje všechny atributy dobrého death a doom metalu. Pro mě osobně se jedná o desku, ke které se hrozně rád vracím. Jakým způsobem vznikala? Jak skládají nový materiál MARTYRDOOM?

Greg: Některé skladby byly docela staré (Garden of Flesh, Festering Existence), ale většina nové desky vznikla v letech 2021 a 2022. Z vnějšího pohledu to vypadá, jako bychom nové album psali šest let, ale mezi změnou sestavy, pandemií a časem na pouhé hraní živých koncertů - pro nás jsou to spíš dva roky. Jakmile se soustředíme, v podstatě každý druhý týden má někdo návrh na novou skladbu. A takhle jsme psali materiál - někdo přinese pracovní verzi skladby a my ji společně zpracujeme. I když "As Torment Prevails" vyšlo teprve nedávno, už jsme začali psát nový materiál.


Kdo je podepsán pod nahráváním a masteringem? Musím potvrdit, že zvuk doslova zabíjí. Pořád mě to nutí na hi-fi věži přidávat volume. Máte zvuk, který je krutý, surový a zároveň temný a živočišný. Jak se vám spolupracovalo? V jakém studiu jste nahrávali a jak vše probíhalo?

Greg: Díky! Jsem opravdu rád, že to takhle dopadlo, protože jsme se kvůli tomu během mixování dost vztekali. Většinu alba jsme nahrávali ve studiu Chróst, které bylo v roce 2000 dost známé pro všechny velké popové a rockové hvězdy. Majitel, Winicjusz Chróst - kytarista legendární polské kapely Breakout, bohužel v roce 2020 zemřel. Rodina se rozhodla, že jeho legendární studio by nemělo zůstat zavřené, a umožnila Sociakovi, aby v něm působil jako rezidentní inženýr. Díky tomu jsme mohli album nahrát na plně analogové a lampové aparatuře, což se promítlo do zvuku.

Nedílnou součástí a jakýmsi bonusem navíc je pro fanoušky dnes CD. Vy jste jej vydali u labelu Memento Mori a je opatřeno démonickým obalem. Autorem je Ryszard Wojtyński. Jak jste motiv vybírali a jak souvisí s hudbou na novince?

Greg: Když jsme vydávali "Grievous Psychosis", spolupracovali jsme s Ryszardem Wojtyńskim a věděli jsme, že chceme jeho grafiku pro "As Torment Prevails". Když souhlasil, poslali jsme mu hrubý mix nových skladeb spolu s texty. Krátce jsme si popovídali o tématech alba (smutek, truchlení, násilí) a našich oblíbených obalech alb a on na jejich základě vytvořil olejomalbu. Poslal nám návrh obrazu s vysvětlením, co bude dělat dál, my jsme přidali pár poznámek o tom, co se nám tam líbí nebo co tam vidíme. Následovalo odhalení a upřímně řečeno jsme byli šokováni tím, co udělal. V podstatě předčil naše očekávání ohledně obalu, a to do té míry, že každý člen kapely má kopii obrazu doma zarámovanou.


Toulám se podsvětím již přes třicet let a do Polska si chodím pro muziku vlastně na jistotu. Myslím, že máme podobnou náturu i vkus, co se týká metalu. Mám vaše kapely hodně rád a pečlivě sleduji vaši scénu. Možná vám i trošku závidím, my máme u nás jen pár death metalových smeček, které stojí za to. Čím si to vysvětluješ, že zrovna u vás se death metalu tolik daří? Jak vnímáš vaši scénu, fanoušky, labely?

Greg: Upřímně řečeno, z mého pohledu většina "větších" nebo spíše rozpoznatelných kapel hraje buď black metal, nebo něco s ním kombinovaného. Nebo jinou variaci na Behemoth z éry 2000. Samozřejmě máme i skvělé undergroundové kapely a labely, ale řekl bych, že ty jsou většinou přehlíženy v moři průměrných blackmetalových kapel, které jsou další odbočkou toho, co v současnosti dělají Mgła nebo Furia. Rozhodně vám závidím vaši scénu, hlavně festivaly! Byl jsem na Brutal Assaultu tak čtyřikrát nebo pětkrát a samozřejmě nesmíme zapomenout na Mekku každého maniaka extrémní hudby - Obscene Extreme! Tam jsem byl asi pětkrát nebo šestkrát a vždycky se tam cítím jako doma.

Hrajete doom death metal ovlivněný starou školou. Dnes se vlastně kapela nemůže vyhnout srovnání, mě by ale zajímalo, jak vlastně vznikl nápad založit MARTYRDOOM, kdo byl a je vaším vzorem a kam vaši kapelu chcete posunout? Lákají vás třeba velké zahraniční festivaly, jste ochotni vyrazit na turné s nějakou slavnější smečkou?

Greg: Vznikla jako každá jiná kapela, kterou tvoří sedmnáctiletí kluci. Začali jsme jako Deathlust v roce 2010, jako skupina kamarádů, kteří chtěli hrát metal. Začali jsme hrát covery Metallicy, Sepultury, Nunslaughter a Hellhammeru, a když jsme začali psát vlastní materiál, přiklonili jsme se spíš na stranu death metalu. Naše hudba se vyvíjí s námi a s tím, co posloucháme nebo jsme poslouchali - našli jsme se v death/doomu a už to zůstalo. Řekl bych, že hlavní inspirací (která není tak zřejmá jako typické deathmetalové inspirace, které můžete slyšet) pro celý Martyrdoom je cokoli, co udělal Tom Warrior. Líbí se nám jeho přístup k hudbě, který dává na první místo emoce a to, že i ty nejjednodušší zvuky mohou vytvořit zvukový chaos. Co se týče budoucnosti, kdo může říct? Už jsme začali psát nový materiál a podle toho, co můžeme v tuto chvíli říct - bude více downtuned a méně schematický. Snažíme se opustit schéma skladeb položené jako ABABC a snažíme se trochu experimentovat. Samozřejmě to neznamená, že chceme jít progresivní cestou, spíš chceme opustit psaní "písniček".


Když jsem před šesti lety zakládal svoje stránky, měl jsem vizi, že se budu snažit podporovat kapely, které podle mě nejsou tolik na očích. Dát o nich vědět světu. Myslím, že se mi to celkem daří, alespoň podle ohlasů. Jak přistupujete k propagaci vy? Necháváte to na labelu nebo sami posíláte CD různě na recenze? Já si třeba alba, která mě opravdu baví, kupuji. Jak jste na tom vy? Jste také fanoušci, co rádi a často podporují své kolegy? Chodíte na koncerty? Paříte?

Greg: Myslím, že odvádíš skvělou práci! Trochu si děláme propagaci sami, ale nejsme tak moc na sociální sítě. "Trh" je přesycený a (alespoň pro nás) je opravdu únavné prodírat se tisíci novými vydáními každý měsíc. Co se týče našeho podílu na podpoře scény, samozřejmě chodíme na různé koncerty (možná ne tak často, jak bychom chtěli, ale co, takový je život) a kupujeme merch od našich kolegů. Víme, že to dělají z nadšení, stejně jako my.

Na jednou stranu má dnes začínající kapela spoustu možností, jak o sobě dát vědět, ale zase na druhou stranu, skupin je obrovské množství a fanoušci se v nich ztrácejí. Hodně lidí jen stahuje mp3 z internetu a místo koncertu raději plive jedovaté sliny na facebooku. Jak vás, jako MARTYRDOOM ovlivňují moderní technologie? Co si myslíš o stahování muziky, google metalistech, streamování muziky apod.?

Greg: Jak už jsem řekl v předchozí otázce, nejsme zrovna fanoušky sociálních médií. V případě streamovacích služeb je považuji za pohodlí. Nebo spíše jako nutné zlo. Pokud nejste přítomni ve streamovacích službách, neexistujete. Když se nad tím zamyslíte, je docela blbost, že musíte platit různým společnostem (které jsou vlastněny streamovacími službami) za "privilegium" umístit tam svou hudbu. Mezitím se megalabely nechávají propagovat Spotify (nebo jakýmkoli streamováním), takže fronta může jít nahoru. Podle mě snůška nesmyslů. Ale hej, aspoň má naše hudba šanci dostat se k širšímu publiku. Na druhou stranu jsem z generace, která začala objevovat hudbu stahováním MP3 a čtením online zinů a blogů. Ale samozřejmě, jak jsem dospíval, začal jsem si prostě kupovat hudbu a merch od umělců, které jsem chtěl podpořit. A to pokračuje dodnes - používám streamovací služby, ale vždy se budu snažit podporovat umělce, které chci. Ať už tím, že půjdu na koncert, nebo si koupím jejich věci přímo od nich, ne od vydavatelství. Možná si dělám iluze, ale myslím si, že fanoušci extrémního metalu vždycky podporují hudbu, kterou mají rádi.


S oblibou se ptám muzikantů na to, co pro ně znamená death metal. Jak by jej definovali, jestli je pro ně spíše filozofií a životním stylem nebo „jen“ relaxem. Co znamená pro tebe? Jak jej vnímáš a prožíváš?

Greg: Často žertuji, že death metal je ta nejlepší věc, která mě kdy potkala, haha. Pro mě jsou podstatou death metalu syrové, nespoutané emoce, které s hudbou přicházejí. I ve "středním" death metalu je pořád cítit agrese, kterou v žádném jiném žánru nemáš. Nevím, jak je to s filozofií a životním stylem, ale myslím, že i ten hraje v mém životě velkou roli, protože je ve mně zakořeněn už mnoho let. Určitě můžu říct, že mám rád, že deathmetalová scéna je taková pohodová.

Na závěr klasická, ale důležitá otázka. Co chystají MARTYRDOOM v nejbližších měsících? Kde vás můžeme vidět na koncertě a kdy navštívíte Českou republiku?

Greg: Napsat nějaký nový materiál, aby fanoušci nemuseli čekat dalších šest let na nové album, haha. Ale vážně, v příštím roce budeme pravděpodobně propagovat As Torment Prevails, uděláme nějaký merch a možná se pokusíme vydat desku na vinylu. Žádné konkrétní plány zatím nemáme.

Člověče, v zahraničí jsme nikdy nehráli - pokud by někdo chtěl, abychom přijeli, tak jsme otevřeni pozvánkám. A jsme levní! Zahrajeme za benzín, trávu a chlast.

Děkuji moc za rozhovor. Přeji nejen nové desce spoustu úspěchů a ať se co nejvíc rozšíří řady vašich fanoušků. Budu se těšit někde naživo a ať se vám daří jak po hudební stránce, tak i v osobní rovině. Jdu si „As Torment Prevails“ zase narvat do hlavy!

Každý jdeme jinou cestou. Někdy se brodíme bahnem a obestírá nás temnota, jindy zahlédneme alespoň malý záblesk světla. Občas se zastavíme, abychom se nadechli. Touláme se světem, mnozí bez cíle, bez naděje. Jako bychom věděli, že nás nakonec stejně čeká krutá smrt. Narodíme se v bolestech a jediní démoni vědí, co s námi bude. Včera jsem znovu po letech otevřel Knihu mrtvých a poslouchal u ní nové album kanadských PHOBOCOSM. Ihned se mi vše spojilo v jeden mrazivý zážitek. Zhasnul jsem všechna světla a díval se do tmy.

V těchto chvílích, když byla venku zima a pršelo, vynikla nová deska "Foreordained" nejlépe. Je zakončením apokalyptické trilogie, morbidním závěrem krutých příběhů, které nám kapela svojí hudbou vypráví. Nezbývá nic jiného, než naplno otevřít svoji mysl a nechat na sebe jejich hudbu působit. Přiznám se bez mučení. Opět jsem podlehl během několika tónů. A ve své fantazii došel až na konec cesty. 


Předkládaná hudba je při počátečních setkáních neklidná a náročná. Od posluchače vyžaduje pozornost a možná i trpělivost. Všechna síla vynikne až po nějakém čase. Všechno se musí usadit, jako mrtvola v čerstvém hrobě. Zvuk je chladný, čitelný a zničující. Motiv obalu (autorem je Lauri Laaksonen) krásně doplňuje to, co se na albu odehrává. Smrtící inferno, které nejvíc ocení všichni fanoušci absolutní tmy. Stylově lze tvorbu těchto tmářů přirovnat k hudbě kapel jako IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, DISMA, ULCERATE, SONNE ADAM, VENGEFUL, IGNIVOMOUS, SULPHUR AEON, DEAD CONGREGATION. Samozřejmě, PHOBOCOSM mají svůj vlastní výraz, krvavý otisk, originální postupy. Osobně se mi potom nejvíc líbí atmosféra alba. Opravdu mám pocit, že se procházím chladnými chodbami Hádovy říše. Ze stěn stéká hnis a z dálky se ozývá bolestivý nářek hříšníků. Netuším, jestli věříte na poslední soud, na peklo nebo na záhrobí. Možná jenom shnijeme v zemi, jako kus zcela zbytečného masa. Jsou ale kapely, které nám umožňují nahlédnout na druhou stranu. Kanaďané patří mezi ně. "Foreordained" je velmi zajímavá nahrávka, se spoustou skvělých momentů, s touhou ničit. Nejvíce ji ocení všichni hudební gurmáni, kteří rádi ochutnávají shnilé kousky masa. Každý jdeme jinou cestou. Někdy se brodíme bahnem a obestírá nás temnota, jindy zahlédneme alespoň malý záblesk světla. Občas se zastavíme, abychom se nadechli. Touláme se světem, mnozí bez cíle, bez naděje. PHOBOCOSM na nové desce otevřeli bránu na onen svět! Zlověstný, děsivý death metalový rituál!

We each go a different way. Sometimes we wade through the mud and darkness envelops us, sometimes we catch a glimpse of light. Sometimes we stop to breathe. We wander the world, many without destination, without hope. It's as if we know that we'll eventually meet a cruel death anyway. We are born in pain and only the demons know what will happen to us. Yesterday, I opened the Book of the Dead again after years and listened to the new album by Canadian PHOBOCOSM. Immediately everything came together in one chilling experience. I turned off all the lights and stared into the darkness.

In these moments, when it was cold and raining outside, the new album "Foreordained" stood out the best. It is the end of an apocalyptic trilogy, a morbid conclusion to the cruel stories the band tells us through their music. There is nothing to do but to open your mind fully and let their music affect you. I admit it without torture. Once again I succumbed within a few notes. And in my imagination, I reached the end of the road.


The music presented is unsettling and challenging during the initial encounters. It demands attention and perhaps patience from the listener. All the power comes out after some time. Everything has to settle, like a corpse in a fresh grave. The sound is cold, clear and devastating. The cover motif (by Lauri Laaksonen) beautifully complements what is happening on the album. A deadly inferno that will be most appreciated by all fans of absolute darkness. Stylistically, the work of these dark artists can be compared to the music of bands like IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, DISMA, ULCERATE, SONNE ADAM, VENGEFUL, IGNIVOMOUS, SULPHUR AEON, DEAD CONGREGATION. Of course, PHOBOCOSM have their own expression, bloody imprint, original procedures. Personally, I like the atmosphere of the album the most. I really feel like I'm walking through the cold corridors of Hades. Pus dripping from the walls and the painful cries of the sinners echoing in the distance. I don't know if you believe in the Last Judgment, hell, or the afterlife. Maybe we're just rotting in the ground like a piece of completely useless meat. But there are bands that allow us to see the other side. The Canadians are one of them. "Foreordained" is a very interesting record, with a lot of great moments, with a desire to destroy. It will be most appreciated by all music gourmets who like to taste rotten pieces of meat. We each go a different way. Sometimes we wade through the mud and darkness envelops us, sometimes we catch a glimpse of light. Every now and then we stop to catch our breath. We wander the world, many without purpose, without hope. PHOBOCOSM have opened the gate to the other world on their new album! A sinister, terrifying death metal ritual!

Můžeme se tvářit, že neexistuje, můžeme před ní zavírat oči. Ale stejně nakonec vyplave na povrch. Jako mrtvola z řeky, jako krev na hladinu. Smrt opravdu existuje. Žádná umělá neosobní krematoria na tom nic nezmění. Rozdíl mezi fikcí a realitou poznáte, když vám někdo zabodne nůž do břicha. Pokud máte plné zuby pozérských kapel v lesklých magazínech a oceňujete na extrémní hudbě spíše realitu, energii a tlak, tak bych pro vás měl jeden tip. WALKING CROPSE pochází ze Švédska a rozsekají vás na malé kousky.

Pánové hrají grindcore, ale nebojí se ani death metalových chvilek morbidní poezie. Kapela nepoužívá žádný filtr na to, aby byla hezčí, víc sexy a aby jim dámy házely kalhotky na pódium. Naopak, poslech "Our Hands, Your Throat" připomíná spíše návštěvu starých jatek, na kterých se zabíjelo ještě postaru. Sekerou přímo mezi oči. 


Na zdech je zaschlá krev a všude je cítit bolest a strach. Mám neodbytný pocit, že mě za chvilku naporcují do salámu. Švédi zde museli svoji novou desku nahrávat, jinak to nevidím. jestli máte rádi kapely jako ROTTEN SOUND, FUCK THE FACTS, BATHUB SHITTER, TERRA BUILDER, SPURN, ANTIGAMA, ERNIA, tak dávejte velký pozor! Hraje se zde hlavně pro vás i pro všechny nadšené amatérské řezníky a patology. Správný grindcore musí bolet, musí vás po něm pálit vnitřnosti. WALKING CROPSE tohle všechno umí a přidávají ještě obrovskou porci zkaženého masa navíc. Je to jízda od začátku do konce. Nekompromisní nářez, ale také spousta chladných a temných nálad a atmosféry. Netřeba diskutovat o zvuku, ani o obalu. Vše je perfektní a krásně se hodí k hudbě, kterou nám tihle maniaci předkládají. Songy v sobě mají potřebnou sílu a drive, vztek a nakumulovanou nenávist ke všemu živému. Prostým faktem je, že vás "Our Hands, Your Throat" spálí na popel, zničí a extrahují vám všechny zuby z pusy. Nevím, jestli jste na tom někdy stejně jako já, ale mě když je úzko a padá na mě splín ze současného světa, tak potřebuji podobnou hudbu, abych přežil. Svět totiž není jen nepřetržité pásmo krásných reklam, ale má i svoji odvrácenou tvář. Hnusné mučírny, války a zvrácené jedince, kteří vám dokáží ze života udělat peklo. Tuhle nahrávku bych pouštěl do ksichtu všech hajzlům. Temný, zničující grindcore, která vám rozdrtí obličej na krvavou kaši!

We can pretend it doesn't exist, we can turn a blind eye to it. But it will still surface eventually. Like a corpse from the river, like blood on the surface. Death does exist. No amount of artificial, impersonal crematoria will change that. You can tell the difference between fiction and reality when someone sticks a knife in your stomach. If you're fed up with the poser bands in glossy magazines and appreciate reality, energy and pressure in extreme music, I have a tip for you. WALKING CROPSE hail from Sweden and will chop you up into little pieces.

The gentlemen play grindcore, but they are not afraid of death metal moments of morbid poetry. The band doesn't use any filter to make them prettier, sexier or to make the ladies throw their panties on stage. On the contrary, listening to "Our Hands, Your Throat" is more like a visit to an old abattoir where they used to kill the old-fashioned way. With an axe right between the eyes.


There is dried blood on the walls, and pain and fear everywhere. I have a nagging feeling that I'm about to be sliced into sausage. If you like bands like ROTTEN SOUND, FUCK THE FACTS, BATHUB SHITTER, TERRA BUILDER, SPURN, ANTIGAMA, ERNIA, pay attention! It's mainly played here for you and all the enthusiastic amateur butchers and pathologists. Proper grindcore must hurt, it must make your guts burn. WALKING CROPSE does all this and adds a huge portion of extra rotten meat. It's a ride from start to finish. An uncompromising blast, but also a lot of cold and dark moods and atmosphere. No need to discuss the sound or the cover art. Everything is perfect and fits beautifully with the music these maniacs present to us. The songs have the necessary power and drive, anger and accumulated hatred for all living things. The simple fact is that "Our Hands, Your Throat" will burn you to ashes, destroy you and extract all your teeth from your mouth. I don't know if you're ever in the same place as me, but when I'm feeling anxious and the fullness of the current world is crashing down on me, I need music like this to survive. Because the world is not just a continuous stream of beautiful commercials, but it has its flipside. Ugly torture chambers, wars and twisted individuals who can make your life a living hell. I'd play this tape in the faces of all the bastards. Dark, devastating grindcore that will smash your face to a bloody pulp!

Ulice opět zahalila mlha a smog. Nemůžeme dýchat a někteří z nás již dávno propadli peklu. Mějte se na pozoru, až půjdete ven. Občas vystoupí ze stínu přízraky a proříznou vám hrdlo. Přejdete na druhou stranu, do země nekonečné bolesti a budete se topit ve smradlavých močálech. A hrát vám k tomu bude debutové album dánských maniaků TEMPLE OF SCORN. Ti letos přicházejí s hudbou, která nejlépe vynikne brzy ráno, když jdu do práce. V ulicích je chladno a divné ticho. Nemrtví sedí na hřbitovní zdi a kývají souhlasně hlavou. Hraje se tu hlavně pro ně. A také pro pravé fanoušky smrtícího kovu a doomových nálad.

Kapela vznikla v roce 2018 a je složena ze samých zkušených muzikantů (Baest, Bloodgutter, Dawn of Demise, Exmortem, Invocator). Prosévám mezi prsty prach svých předků a poslouchám pozorně. Album se mi pomalu dostává do krve a mě nezbývá nic jiného, než se vydat večer na hřbitov a vykopat si svůj vlastní hrob. Takhle zní ozvěny ze záhrobí!


Hudba je zde postavena na poctivých základech a v určitých momentech evokuje a navazuje na to, co dělají třeba takoví INCANTATION, VIANIDE, CRUCIAMENTUM, KRYPTS, MORTIFERUM. I když sedím u reproduktorů, tak se moje mysl toulá po děsivých ulicích našeho města. Kývám se do rytmu, pomalu se dostávám do stavu, kteří znají všichni praví fanoušci metalu. Rád se k nahrávce vracím a dávám si ji do hlavy v různých stavech, času i rozpoložení. Nejlépe vynikne opravdu hlavně v noci, když je sychravo a budí mě noční můry. Říkají mi, abych je následoval. Přidávám postupně volume a "Funeral Altar Epiphanies" zdí do ticha špinavých ulic. Našlapuji opatrně a pod nohama mi křupají plesnivé kosti. Cesta mě zavede vždy na hřbitov, dolů do katakomb, kde je vchod do podzemí. Zde musela nová deska vzniknout. Je plná nahrubo nasekané tmy, chladu a zvláštní energie, kterou máme my, tmáři tolik rádi. Pánové odvedli skvělou práci i co se týká obalu, zvuku a celkové produkce. Novinka se tak stává doslova povinností pro všechny, kteří mají tento styl rádi. Líbí se mi, že Dánové nepodcenili dobré řemeslo, ale přidali i něco navíc. Kus sebe samého, svých myšlenek a nápadů. Určitě to znáte. Setkáte se několikrát s novou muzikou a od začátku víte, že je to ono, že vám koluje v žilách, že se vám zadře pod kůži. Mě se to s TEMPLE OF SCORN stalo. Jsem moc rád, že jsem byl na tuhle seanci pozvaný. Pokloníme se stínům a odříkáme pradávnou mantru pro vyvolání temných sil. Pavučinami pokrytý smrtící kov, který vás uhrane! Temná děsivá mantra!

The streets were once again shrouded in fog and smog. We can't breathe and some of us have long since gone to hell. Be on your guard when you go out. Occasionally, ghosts will step out of the shadows and slit your throat. You'll cross over to the other side, into a land of endless pain, and drown in a stinking swamp. And the debut album of Danish maniacs TEMPLE OF SCORN will be playing for you. This year they come with music that is best played early in the morning when I go to work. The streets are cold and strangely quiet. The undead sit on the graveyard wall and nod their heads in agreement. It's mostly played for them. And for the true fans of death metal and doom.

The band was formed in 2018 and is made up of all experienced musicians (Baest, Bloodgutter, Dawn of Demise, Exmortem, Invocator). I sift the dust of my ancestors between my fingers and listen intently. The album is slowly getting into my blood and I have no choice but to go to the cemetery tonight and dig my own grave. This is what echoes from the beyond sound like!


The music here is built on honest foundations and at certain moments it evokes and follows what such as INCANTATION, VIANIDE, CRUCIAMENTUM, KRYPTS, MORTIFERUM do. Even when I'm sitting at the speakers, my mind wanders through the scary streets of our city. I sway to the rhythm, slowly getting into the state all true metal fans know. I like to go back to the record and put it in my head in different states, times and moods. It really comes out best at night, when it's drizzly and wakes me up with nightmares. They tell me to follow them. I add volume gradually and "Funeral Altar Epiphanies" walls in the silence of the dirty streets. I tread carefully and the moldy bones crunch under my feet. The path always takes me to the cemetery, down to the catacombs where the entrance to the underground is. This is where the new plaque must have been made. It's full of rough-hewn darkness, coldness, and that special energy that we darkies love so much. The gentlemen did a great job with the cover art, sound and overall production. This makes the new release a literal must for all who like this style. I like that the Danes didn't underestimate good craftsmanship, but added something extra. A piece of themselves, their thoughts and ideas. I'm sure you know it. You come across new music a few times and you know from the beginning that this is it, that it's in your veins, that it will get under your skin. That's what happened to me with TEMPLE OF SCORN. I'm so glad I was invited to this session. We bow to the shadows and recite an ancient mantra to invoke the dark forces. A spider webbed death metal that will enchant you! A dark, terrifying mantra!

Stejně je to zvláštní. Co po nás jednou zbyde? Dívám se do tmy a na stole stojí urna. Je na ní moje jméno. Hromádka popela ve vesmíru. Možná ještě duše, která bude navěky bloudit prostorem a časem. Vypadá to, že nikdy nenajdu klid. Až navěky, amen. Stejně je to zvláštní, co ve mě dokáže některá hudba probudit za představy a fantazie. Možná je to tím, že se vrátili britští PLAGUE RIDER. Kapela, která hraje velmi zajímavě, jinak, originálně. Alespoň tak vnímám jejich novou desku "Intensities" já. 

Už jste o tom někdy přemýšleli? Chcete hnít spoustu let v zemi nebo raději shoříte v plamenech? Když poslouchám tuhle kapelu, tak jsem spíše příznivcem ohně. Novinka je hodně intenzivním, neklidným albech plným zajímavých death metalových kompozic. Zhasněte všechny světla, přidejte hlasitost a vychutnejte si ozvěny, které nejsou z tohoto světa. 


Je to samozřejmě muzika, která se těžko poslouchá. Je nutné mnoho společných setkání, aby vám pronikla do žil. Nicméně, osobně se mi přístup, jakým tahle smečka tvoří a skládá líbí. Hodně se mi líbí zvuk, pod kterým je podepsán Colin Marston (Gorguts). Kapela si vůbec dala na formální věci velmi záležet. Není divu, členy jsou muzikanti, kteří už mají ledacos za sebou. Vzpomeňme jejich působení v kapelách jako LIVE BURIAL, HORRIFIED, DYBBUK. Fanoušek se tak může soustředit na jednotlivé nápady, na atmosféru, na proměnlivé nálady, změny tempa, složité pasáže. Jako celek vám možná bude nové album připadat zpočátku roztříštěné. Nenechte se ale mýlit. Deska má v sobě něco zvláštního, neotřelého, neklidného, co se vám dostane do krve, pokud necháte svoji fantazii rozlétnout. Myslím si, že pokud jsou častými hosty ve vašich přehrávačích smečky typu GORGUTS, ATHEIST, MORBID ANGEL, DISKORD, PYRRHON, ARTIFICIAL BRAIN, budete určitě spokojeni. Možná pak budete také přemýšlet o věcech, které jsou mezi naším a oním světem. Na podobnou hudbu musím mít náladu. Klid a ticho. Teprve potom vynikne jejich síla naplno. U PLAGUE RIDER se mi to osvědčilo. Stejně je to zvláštní. Co po nás jednou zbyde? Dívám se do tmy a na stole stojí urna. Je na ní moje jméno. Hromádka popela ve vesmíru. Možná ještě duše, která bude navěky bloudit prostorem a časem. Vypadá to, že nikdy nenajdu klid. Nebo ano? Když poslouchám "Intensities", tak pluji po řece Styx. Divoký, napínavý, technický death metalový výlet do jiné dimenze, který připomíná valící se lavinu!

It's still weird. What will be left of us someday? I look out into the darkness and there's an urn on the table. It has my name on it. A pile of ashes in space. Perhaps a soul that will forever wander through space and time. It seems I'll never find peace. Until forever, amen. Still, it's strange what some music can awaken in me for imaginations and fantasies. Maybe it's the return of British PLAGUE RIDER. A band that plays very interesting, different, original music. At least that's how I perceive their new album "Intensities". 

Have you ever thought about it? Do you want to rot in the ground for many years or would you rather burn in flames? When I listen to this band, I'm more of a fan of fire. The new album is a very intense, restless album full of interesting death metal compositions. Turn off all the lights, turn up the volume and enjoy the echoes that are not of this world.


Of course, it's music that's hard to listen to. It takes many meetings together to get it into your veins. However, I personally like the approach this pack takes to creating and composing. I like a lot the sound that Colin Marston (Gorguts) is behind. The band in general has put a lot of thought into the formal stuff. No wonder, the members are musicians who have been through a lot. Let's remember their time in bands like LIVE BURIAL, HORRIFIED, DYBBUK. So the fan can focus on individual ideas, on the atmosphere, on changing moods, tempo changes, complex passages. As a whole, the new album may seem fragmented at first. But don't be mistaken. The album has something special, novel, restless, that will get into your blood if you let your imagination run wild. I think that if you often have GORGUTS, ATHEIST, MORBID ANGEL, DISKORD, PYRRHON, ARTIFICIAL BRAIN in your players, you will be satisfied. Maybe then you will also think about the things that are between our world and the other world. I have to be in the mood for music like this. Peace and quiet. Only then will their full power come through. PLAGUE RIDER has proven to be a good one for me. Still, it's strange. What's left of us? I look into the darkness and there's an urn on the table. It has my name on it. A pile of ashes in space. Perhaps a soul that will forever wander through space and time. It seems I'll never find peace. Or will I? When I listen to "Intensities", I'm floating down the River Styx. A wild, thrilling, technical death metal trip to another dimension that feels like a rolling avalanche!

Určitě je také potkáváte. Lidé s dokonalým tělem a hezkou tváří. Úspěšní a dynamičtí. Lidé s dobrým rodokmenem, kteří mají budoucnost. Někteří z nich ale mají smutný pohled a ruce rozdrásané do krve. Sedávají samotní před oknem a dívají se na ulici. Nikomu nechybí a nikdo je nemá rád. Hlavou jim létají temné myšlenky. Když poznáte, jací jsou doopravdy, dostanete strach. Máte potom pocit, že byla zhasnuta všechna světla.

Podobně jako lidi, vnímám i hudbu. Nestačí mi pár poslechů na internetu, jako je to dnes častým zvykem. Musím jít pod povrch, musí dojít ke vzájemnému přenosu mezi mnou a kapelou. Muzika je nakonec vždy o emocích a pro britské WARCRAB mám velkou slabost. Jsou totiž syroví, opravdoví, démoničtí. 


Vše je opět ohlodáno na kost. Mám pocit, že mě kapela vezme z krásné výstavní ulice dolů, do špinavé stoky. Také cítíte ten smrad? To jsou shnilé riffy, prašivý zvuk, to je hnilobný vokál. Určitě to znáte. Vztek nakumulovaný za dlouhé roky, který musí nakonec stejně ven. Spousta zajímavých melodií, ale hlavně dokonale podmanivá a mokvající atmosféra. Máte rádi BOLT THROWER, CROWBAR, EYEHATEGOD, 71TONMAN, THE DEAD? Tak poslouchejte pozorně! Úplně před sebou vidím malý zaplivaný klub na periferii. Vydáš se na cestu ulicemi plnými špíny a smogu. Slezeš po schodem dolů a na pódiu už stojí WARCRAB. Hergot, ani nevíte, jak bych tyhle maniaky rád viděl naživo. Myslím si totiž, že jejich hudba vynikne na koncertech nejvíce. Je jedno jestli máš sluchátka na uších a sedíš v práci nebo jedeš autem, je jedno, pokud posloucháš novinky jenom o samotě v chladném pokoji. Nakonec nás všechny kapela přenese do nekonečných chodeb podzemí. Ze zdí odkapává hnis a krysy tančí. Tady, při poslechu "The Howling Silence" všichni odloží své falešné masky, tady se potkává smrtící kov se spoustou zajímavých příměsí. Kapele se opět povedlo mě přikovat na zeď a pohřbít zaživa. Myslím, že další slova jsou zcela zbytečná. Nechme raději hovořit hudbu. Špinavý, temný death sludge metal, u kterého si rozdrásáte obličej do krve! Zahnívající stoka!

I'm sure you meet them too. People with perfect bodies and pretty faces. Successful and dynamic. People with a good pedigree, who have a future. But some of them have a sad look and their hands are bloodied. They sit alone in front of the window and look out on the street. Nobody misses them and nobody likes them. They have dark thoughts in their heads. When you see what they're really like, you get scared. It makes you feel like all the lights have been turned off.

Like people, I feel the music. It's not enough for me to listen to it on the Internet, as is the case nowadays. I have to go below the surface, there has to be a mutual transmission between me and the band. Music is always about emotions in the end, and I have a great affection for British WARCRAB. Because they are raw, real, demonic.


Everything is gnawed to the bone again. I feel like the band is taking me down from the beautiful show street into the dirty sewer. Can you smell the stench, too? It's the rotten riffs, the dusty sound, it's the rotten vocals. I'm sure you know it. The anger built up over the years that has to come out eventually anyway. Lots of interesting melodies, but most of all, a perfectly captivating and swampy atmosphere. Do you like BOLT THROWER, CROWBAR, EYEHATEGOD, 71TONMAN, THE DEAD? Then listen carefully! I can see a small, seedy club on the outskirts right in front of me. You're about to embark on a journey through the streets full of filth and smog. You go down the stairs and WARCRAB is on stage. Damn, I can't tell you how much I'd love to see these maniacs live. I think their music stands out the most at concerts. It doesn't matter if you're wearing headphones and sitting at work or driving in the car, it doesn't matter if you're just listening to the news alone in a cold room. In the end, the band transports us all to the endless corridors of the underground. Pus dripping from the walls and rats dancing. Here, listening to "The Howling Silence", everybody takes off their fake masks, here the deadly metal meets a lot of interesting admixtures. Once again, the band has managed to pin me to the wall and bury me alive. I think further words are completely unnecessary. Let the music do the talking. Filthy, dark death sludge metal that will make your face bleed! Rotting sewer!
