A few questions - interview with death metal band from Italy - THE TOMB.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Alessandro and I have known each other for many years, I think more than thirty years, we were kids, he played in Sepolcrum and I played in SPECTROSCOPY. for a long period we didn't meet, then in 2022 we spoke and we both wanted to play our Death Metal and so we founded The Tomb.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The album The Valley Of Despair was recorded in our city Rome in SK's Music Up studio and we created our ideal sound right in this studio. We produced a sound that represents us, a 90s death metal sound, our favorite.


Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

I wrote the songs in various periods of my life, I was very inspired, the thought of creating good death metal was a great stimulus and so I created the music. Then Alessandro wrote the lyrics inspired by ancient rituals, phobias, serials killers, death, all issues that existthey like them a lot.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

We were looking for a name for the band suited to our genre, then speaking with Alessandro he proposed the name The Tomb, I liked it immediately, simple and direct. The logo was created by a friend of the band, while the cover was completely handmade by a South American artist

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We chose Great Dane because we believe it is very professional and serious. Some friends of ours were already signed to Great Dane and their words were very good. We are very happy with our label, we will certainly do great things together.


Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

The bands we like are all those that convey the right emotions to us, we range a lot from Deicide to Cynic, Obituary, Atheist and many others...

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

Both Alessandro and I have played in many live shows, we really like festivals but clubs are also interested and they exude particular energy. Regarding THE TOMB we would like to share the stage with other bands in extreme music festivals, we are working towards this.

Čerstvě otevřená hrobka vydala další svědectví. Mrtvola, ležící uprostřed kamenného stolu, neměla žádnou rakev. Kolem byly nakresleny záhadné a tajemné symboly. Vzduchem se vznášel hnilobný pach a ještě něco dalšího, co  jsem zpočátku nedokázal identifikovat. Musel jsem si pustit novou, debutovou desku italských smrťáků THE TOMB. Ti jsou věrni až za hrob stylu, který se hrával v devadesátých letech minulého století. Stačilo několik prvních tónů, aby se tělo posadilo. Postava měla šílený pohled a já jsem věděl, že jsem zde správně.

Prokletý, ano byl kdysi dávno prokletý. Nemrtvý, toužící i po své smrti po čerstvé krvi. Pomalu přidávám hlasitost a užívám si starodávný, plesnivý zvuk. Povedl se i obal, pod kterým je podepsán Julian Felipe Mora Ibanez. Dveře do záhrobí byly otevřeny, stačí jen vstoupit. 


Pod THE TOMB jsou podepsáni dva zkušení muzikanti (Alessio Bucci - kytary a Alessandro Nunziati - zpěv). Je znát, že pánové moc dobře vědí, co a jak chtějí hrát. S ničím se moc nepářou a jdou rovnou na věc. Takovou hudbu jsem poslouchal jako mladý a zůstal jsem ji stále věrný. Až navěky, amen! Stylově lze přirovnat novinku k tomu nejlepšímu, co vytvořily kapely jako DEATH, MORGOTH, PESTILENCE, MASACRE, SOLSTICE. Zkrátka a dobře, stará škola, perfektně zahraná, s určitou přidanou hodnotou navíc. Album se poslouchá tak nějak samo, dovedu pochopit, že mám při poslechu neustálé nutkání vyrazit na blízký hřbitov, vykopat si tam nějakou mrtvolu. Třeba bych měl štěstí a narazil bych na prokletého kněze nebo nějakou krásnou zombie. "The Valley of Despair" je nahrávkou pro všechny staré maniaky, pro fanoušky, kteří mají rádi tradiční, klasické postupy. Píšu to často, pro tuhle muziku musíte mít talent, musíte v ní věřit a hrát ji srdcem. Musíte si dát pozor na dobrou produkci a vaše nápady musí pálit, řezat, musíte hnít zaživa. Tohle všechno Italové umí a přidávají ještě něco poctivého navíc. Víc tmy, víc chladu, víc pohřbů do země. Vždycky jsem měl rád na tomhle stylu takový ten smradlavý odér, hnilobu chcete-li. Zde jsem dostal pořádnou porci syrového, již trošku rozkládajícího se masa. Podáváno je samozřejmě na víku od rakve. Těším se, až se setmí. Vezmu si do rukou lopatu, nasadím si sluchátka a potom je to už jenom mezi mnou a samotnou Smrtí. Čerstvě otevřená hrobka vydala další svědectví. There was a putrid smell in the air and something else that I could not identify at first. I had to listen to the new debut album by Italian death metal band THE TOMB. They are true to the grave to the style that was played in the 90s. It only took the first few notes to make the body sit up. The character had a crazy look and I knew I was right there.

Cursed, yes he was cursed once upon a time. Undead, yearning even in death for fresh blood. I slowly turned up the volume, enjoying the ancient, musty sound. THE TOMB is signed by two experienced musicians (Alessio Bucci - guitars and Alessandro Nunziati - vocals). It is clear that the gentlemen know very well what and how they want to play. They don't argue too much with anything and go straight to the point. This is the kind of music I listened to when I was young and I have remained loyal to it ever since. Forever and ever, amen! Stylistically, the new album can be compared to the best of bands like DEATH, MORGOTH, PESTILENCE, MASACRE, SOLSTICE. In short, old school, perfectly played, with some added value. The album kind of listens to itself, I can understand that while listening to it I have a constant urge to go to a nearby cemetery to dig up a dead body. Maybe I'd get lucky and stumble upon a cursed priest or some beautiful zombie. "The Valley of Despair" is a record for all the old geezers, for fans who like traditional, classic methods. I write this a lot, you have to have talent for this music, you have to believe in it and play it with your heart. You have to watch out for good production and your ideas have to burn, cut, you have to rot alive. The Italians can do all of that and add a little extra honesty. More darkness, more cold, more burying yourself in the ground. I've always liked the smelly smell, the rot, if you like. Here I got a good helping of raw, already a bit decomposing meat. Served on a coffin lid, of course. I'm looking forward to it getting dark. I pick up my shovel, put on my headphones, and then it's just between me and Death itself.
