Občas přemýšlím nad tím, proč nás pořád starý death metal tolik baví. Proč se vlastně nevyvíjíme, proč nechceme objevovat nové dimenze. Možná je to proto, protože nám tahle muzika kdysi utvářela náš pohled na hudební svět. Jasně že je v tom obrovský kus nostalgie. Myslím si ale, že i něco trošku jiného. Mám zkrátka rád, když se věci dělají poctivě, když je řemeslo dobře odvedeno a nezapomíná se i na talent.
U nové desky slovenských MORDUM bylo splněno vše nutné a potřebné pro pořádný večírek v márnici. Už jenom zvuk (Ľubo Lokša - mixing, mastering) je náležitě hnilobný, temný a masivní. Mám chuť jít rozdrtit nějaké kosti! Líbí se mi ale i obal od skvělé Janky Vé (JanaVe Art), který přesně vystihuje to, co se na desce odehrává - morbidní smrtící kov, u kterého budete pohřbeni zaživa.
Staré smečky vždy zvládaly hlavně jednu věc - zakládaly si na dobré struktuře skladeb. MORDUM se volně inspirují na Floridě (MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, MONSTROSITY). Ale nedělají to nijak okatě, rozhodně se nejedná jen o dnes tak častou kopii věcí minulých. Základem jsou sice hrubozrnné, surové a temné ozvěny americké školy, ale pánové přidávají i vlastní invenci, nápady, zajímavé momenty. V některých případech se dotýkají atmosférou až black metalu. To vše podáváno na víku od rakve a s velkým feelingem a drivem. Pro mě osobně je asi nejdůležitější to, že mě baví skladby poslouchat, rád se k nim vracím. Technika se zde potkává s čerstvě exhumovanými hroby a Slováci to dělají s elegancí starých zkušených hrobařů. Je jasné a zcela pochopitelné, že mnohým mladším fanouškům, kteří vyrůstali na novější hudbě a přístupu k ní, budou připadat obyčejní, ale nenechte se mýlit - tohle album chce čas a jak jsem již psal, poctivý přístup. Nenakope vám zadek napoprvé, musíte se k němu vracet a poslouchat jej velmi pečlivě. Teprve až když se setmí, tak vyniknou jednotlivé nuance. Pokud máš tenhle styl rád, neváhej ani chvilku. Poslední roky si hodně vážím kapel, které se snaží táhnout káru s mrtvolami stále dál. A dělají to od srdce. Tím by se vlastně dala i dnešní recenze uzavřít. "In Peccato Mortali" je morbidním, temným rituálem pro všechny fanoušky reálných, opravdových pohřbů do země! Technický death metal s příchutí zkažené krve!

Sometimes I wonder why we still like old death metal so much. Why we don't evolve, why we don't want to explore new dimensions. Maybe it's because this music once shaped our view of the musical world. Of course there's a huge amount of nostalgia in it. But I think there's also something a little bit different. I just like when things are done honestly, when the craft is well done and the talent is not forgotten.
With the new album of Slovak MORDUM, everything necessary for a proper party in the morgue was fulfilled. The sound alone (Ľubo Lokša - mixing, mastering) is properly rotten, dark and massive. I want to go crush some bones! But I also like the cover artwork by the great Janka Vé (JanaVe Art), which accurately describes what's happening on the record - morbid death metal that will bury you alive.
The old bands have always been good at one thing in general - they were good at song structure. MORDUM are loosely inspired by Florida (MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, MONSTROSITY). But they don't do it in a flashy way, it's definitely not just a copy of things from the past. The basis is the rough, raw and dark echoes of the American school, but the gentlemen also add their own inventiveness, ideas, interesting moments. In some cases they touch on the atmosphere of black metal. All this served on a coffin lid and with great feeling and drive. Probably the most important thing for me personally is that I enjoy listening to the songs, I like to come back to them. Technique meets freshly exhumed graves here, and the Slovaks do it with the elegance of old experienced gravediggers. It's clear and completely understandable that many younger fans who grew up on newer music and approaches to it will find them ordinary, but don't be mistaken - this album takes time and, as I've written before, an honest approach. It won't kick your ass the first time, you have to keep coming back to it and listen to it very carefully. It's only when it gets dark that the individual nuances become clear. If you like this style, don't hesitate a moment. I've come to have a lot of respect for bands in recent years that keep trying to pull the dead carriage further and further. And they do it from the heart. Actually, that could be the conclusion of today's review. "In Peccato Mortali" is a morbid, dark ritual for all the fans of real, genuine burials in the ground! Technical death metal with a taste of bad blood!
