U nás za městem už začal tát sníh. Jakmile skončím v práci, tak čím dál tím častěji mizím do lesa. Vypínám všechny sítě světa a stávám se součástí přírody. Jediné, co si vždycky berou s sebou, tak je nějaká hudba. Zajímavé je, že mezi stromy vynikne pouze určitý druh metalu. Finské HOLLOW WOODS jsem vůbec neznal. Jedná se o moje první setkání s kapelou. Zrovna jsem překročil další padlý strom. Dívám se do dálky a najednou mám neodbytný pocit, že mě někdo sleduje.
Lovci a jejich oběti. Tohle je syrový a chladný black metal, který je ohlodaný až na kost. S temnou a podmanivou atmosférou. Určitě jste někdy viděli zmrzlé mrtvé zvíře u cesty? Bez očí, s vytrhanými vnitřnostmi? Tak přesně takhle na mě nové album působí. Drásavě, hnisavě, neklidně.
Až se vrátím z lesa, tak mě zavřete do staré kobky. Než mě ale přikováte znovu na zeď, tak mi prosím pusťte "Like Twisted Bones of Fallen Giants". Líbí se mi, že Finové přistupují k černému kovu přeci jen trošku jinak, než ostatní. Hrají sice surově a nekompromisně, ale zároveň si zachovávají takovou zvláštní atmosféru. Lze velmi těžko popsat slovy. Možná bude lepší, když si album poslechnete a uděláte si názor sami. Po formální stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku. Zvuk, obal, vše sedí na svých místech. To nechme ale stranou, soustřeďme se raději na muziku samotnou. Charakterizoval bych ji asi takto. Je už skoro tma a nejdřív mám pocit, že jsem zabloudil v lese. Přesto vím, že jdu na jisto. Deska se mi dávno dostala do krve a mrazí mě v zádech. Už jen pár metrů a najednou spatřím světlo. Uprostřed mýtiny stojí oltář. Vše působí velmi mysticky, pradávně. Hudba i místo, na kterém budu za chvíli obětován. Stanu se součástí lesa, rozplynu se ve věčnosti. Můj obličej bude rozdrásán do krve a když rituál skončí, rozpadnu se postupně v prach. Tahle nahrávka musela vznikat ve stínu starých, stoletých stromů. V chladu a mlze. Jinak si to nedovedu vysvětlit. Poslouchejte pozorně a potom potkáte své vlastní démony. Vždycky si můžete vybrat, jestli budete šelmou nebo obětí. Zrovna jsem překročil další padlý strom. Dívám se do dálky a najednou mám neodbytný pocit, že mě někdo sleduje. The snow has already started to melt outside our town. As soon as I get off work, I disappear into the woods more and more often. I turn off all the networks of the world and become part of nature. The only thing I always take with me is some music. Interestingly, only a certain kind of metal stands out among the trees. I didn't know Finnish HOLLOW WOODS at all. This is my first encounter with the band. I just crossed another fallen tree. I look into the distance and suddenly I have the insistent feeling that someone is following me.
The hunters and their victims. This is raw and cold black metal that's gnawed to the bone. With a dark and haunting atmosphere. I'm sure you've seen a frozen dead animal by the side of the road? Eyeless, with its guts ripped out? That's exactly how the new album strikes me. Beautiful, festering, unsettling.
When I get back from the woods, you'll lock me in the old dungeon. But before you nail me to the wall again, please play "Like Twisted Bones of Fallen Giants". I like that the Finns have a slightly different approach to black metal than the others. They play raw and uncompromising, but at the same time they keep such a special atmosphere. It's very hard to describe in words. Maybe it's better if you listen to the album and make your own opinion. Formally, everything is in the best order. The sound, the cover, everything fits in place. But let's leave that aside and concentrate on the music itself. I would characterize it like this. It's almost dark and at first I feel like I'm lost in the woods. Yet I know I'm on the safe side. The record got into my blood a long time ago, and it gives me chills. Just a few more metres and suddenly I see light. There is an altar in the middle of the clearing. Everything looks very mystical, ancient. The music and the place where I'm about to be sacrificed. I'll become part of the forest, dissolve into eternity. And when the ritual is over, I will gradually crumble into dust. This recording must have been made in the shade of a hundred-year-old tree. In the cold and the fog. I can't explain it any other way. Listen carefully and then you will meet your own demons. You can always choose to be the beast or the victim. I just crossed another fallen tree.
