Chodím touhle temnou ulicí každý den. Znám každé zákoutí, každé okno, které už ráno svítí. Dnes ale bylo něco jinak. Ve stínu se někdo ukrýval. A držel v ruce nůž. Hlavou mi probleskla spousta nápadů, jak se bránit, co udělat. Jenže jsem stál jako uhranutý, jako zvíře, čekající na porážku. Nechal jsem se podříznout a tak nějak podvědomě jsem věděl, že odcházím do světa za oponou smířený se svým životem. Nakonec jsem se do říše pravého death metalu těšil. Současný svět mi připadal až příliš divný. Jako bych byl také stínem, který sleduje, všechnu tu bolest a strach, které jsou všude kolem. 

O finských GUTS jsem  již jednou psal. Bylo to u příležitosti vydání jejich předchozího alba "Decay" v roce 2023 (pokud máte chuť, tak si recenzi přečtěte, je odkazována dole pod článkem). Pánové nadále pokračují ve své undergroundové death metalové cestě. Atmosféra novinky mi připomíná temnou ulici, kterou jsem chodil každé ráno tolik let. 


Pánové nadále ctí tradice staré finské školy. Přidávají samozřejmě velké množství svých nápadů a invence. Skladby jsou napsány takovým tím prašivým způsobem, riffy jsou ostré a temné, vokál připomíná právě probuzenou hladovou bestii. Pokaždé, když nové album "Nightmare Fuel" poslouchám, tak má sto chutí vzít do rukou lopatu a jít vykopat vlastní hrob. Pokud jste fanoušky klasických hororů nahraných na VHS a pokaždé, když jste nějaký film zhlédli jste se neustále ohlíželi za sebe, potom jste zde správně. Atmosféra nové nahrávky je totiž velmi podobná. Navíc si kapela dala velký pozor na zvuk, který je nejen masivní a prašivý, ale také dobře čitelný. Perfektní je i obal, jehož autorem je Timon Kokott, který mě samozřejmě inspiroval k napsání úvodu dnešní recenze. V závěru je to vlastně jednoduché. Kapely si vybírám podle toho, jestli mě baví jejich hudbu poslouchat. A GUTS do mě ihned zasekli svůj dráp. A už mě nepustili. Novinka má v sobě totiž něco morbidně přitažlivého, něco, co vás pohřbí zaživa. Přesně takhle to má být, přesně takhle to mám rád. Hezky postaru, krvavě, opravdově a uvěřitelně. Finové museli načerpat inspiraci v tom nejhlubším podzemí. V místech, kam jednou přejdete, hned potom, co potkáte svoji smrt v tiché temné uličce. Nelze jinak, než vám nové album doporučit. Má v sobě totiž vše potřebné pro to, abyste shnili zaživa. Tohle jsou přesně ozvěny ze záhrobí, které jsou podle mého gusta. Poslouchejte pořádně nahlas! Hnilobně mrtvolný, surový a mokvající death metalový horor, který se stal krutou realitou! Ostrý nůž od krve, který vám bude zabodnutý přímo do vnitřností!

I walk down this dark street every day. I know every nook and cranny, every window that's already lit up in the morning. But today was different. Someone was hiding in the shadows. And he was holding a knife. I had a lot of ideas in my head about how to defend myself, what to do. But I stood like a bewitched animal waiting to be slaughtered. I let myself be cut, and somehow, subconsciously, I knew I was going to the world beyond the curtain, reconciled to my life. In the end, I was looking forward to the realm of true death metal. The current world seemed too strange to me. Like I was also a shadow watching all the pain and fear that was all around. 

I've already written about Finnish GUTS once. It was on the occasion of the release of their previous album "Decay" in 2023 (if you feel like reading the review, it's linked at the bottom of the article). The gentlemen continue their underground death metal journey. The atmosphere of the new release reminds me of the dark street I walked every morning for so many years. 

The gentlemen continue to honour the traditions of the old Finnish school. Of course, they add a great deal of their own ideas and inventiveness. The songs are written in that scabrous way, the riffs are sharp and dark, the vocals remind of a just awakened hungry beast. Every time I listen to the new album "Nightmare Fuel" I have a hundred urges to pick up a shovel and go dig my own grave. If you're a fan of classic horror films recorded on VHS and you've constantly looked behind you every time you've watched a movie, then you've come to the right place. In fact, the atmosphere of the new recording is very similar. Moreover, the band has taken great care with the sound, which is not only massive and dusty, but also easy to hear. The cover art is also perfect, designed by Timon Kokott, which of course inspired me to write the introduction of today's review. In the end, it's actually simple. I choose bands based on whether I enjoy listening to their music. And GUTS immediately stuck their claw into me. And they never let go. There's something morbidly appealing about the new stuff, something that will bury you alive. That's how it's supposed to be, that's how I like it. Old-fashioned, bloody, real and believable. The Finns must have been inspired by the deepest underground. The places you go once you meet your death in a quiet, dark alley. I can't help but recommend the new album. It has everything you need to rot alive. This is exactly the kind of echoes from beyond the grave that I like. Listen really loud! A rottingly dead, raw and oozing death metal horror that has become a cruel reality! A sharp knife of blood that will be stabbed right into your guts!

Tahle kobka stojí v rohu hřbitova. Ve stínu starých stromů. Nikdo ji dlouho nenavštěvuje. Přesto z ní slýchávám podivné zvuky. Jsem zvědavý, rád stále objevuji nové kapely. Otevřu rezavé dveře a odhrnu pavučiny. Přivítá mě notoricky známý pach smrti. Ihned mi dojde, že zde muselo vzniknout nové album finských GUTS. Moje myšlenky jsou ihned potvrzeny. Na kamenné desce, plné obrácených křížů, leží shnilé tělo. Obličej bez kůže, bez očí, přesto mám pocit, že se na mě dívá. Drží v ruce album "Decay" a já vím, že jsem tu správně.

Pánové mají na svém kontě tři singly z minulého roku. Novinka je zároveň debutem, prvním albem skupiny. Většinou v takových případech přistupuji k hudbě opatrně. Tentokrát ale nemusím. Máme tu totiž co do činění s parádním kusem shnilého masa. Skladby v sobě mají vše nutné a potřebné pro pořádnou pařbu. Drive, sílu, energii i chlad. Kobka je otevřena!

Líbí se mi, že si kapela dala práci s obalem i zvukem. Po formální stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku. To byla ale nestačilo. Podobných skupin je dnes velké množství. O GUTS jsem se ale rozhodl napsat a podpořit je, protože jejich hudba řeže tou správnou stranou nože. Mají cit pro morbidní melodie, schopnost napsat motivy, které se mi ihned zadřely hluboko pod kůži. Toulám se podzemím dlouhé roky, od osmdesátých let minulého století a u hudby stále nejvíc oceňuji, když je zahraná od srdce. U "Decay" mám pocit, jako bych právě exhumoval čerstvý hrob. Mrtvola ve značném stádiu rozkladu, mlha mezi náhrobky, duše zemřelých i démoni. Tohle všechno k tomuto stylu patří, jako rakev k mrtvému. Líbí se mi nahrubo nasekané thrashové pasáže, ale hlavně temnota a chlad, které z riffů odkapávají jako zkažená krev. Songy se valí kupředu jako voda ve špinavé stoce. Přidávám hlasitost a jsem starým hrobníkem, kývám se do rytmu, představuji si koncert v malém zaplivaném klubu. Ano, o tomhle pro mě vždycky býval smrtící kov. Finové uctívají stejné modly jako já. Hrají přesvědčivě, zajímavě a hlavně - novou desku mě baví poslouchat. To je pro mě asi nejdůležitější. Melodie plné smrti a zmrzlé krve! Rozkládající se death metalová mršina!

This dungeon is in the corner of the cemetery. In the shade of the old trees. No one's been visiting it for a long time. Yet I hear strange noises coming from it. I'm curious, I like to discover new bands all the time. I open the rusty door and unwrap the cobwebs. I'm greeted by the notorious smell of death. I immediately realise that this must be where the new Finnish GUTS album was recorded. My thoughts are immediately confirmed. On a stone slab, full of inverted crosses, lies a rotten body. A face with no skin, no eyes, yet I have the feeling that he is looking at me. He's holding the Decay album, and I know I'm right here.

The gentlemen have three singles from last year. The new one is also the band's debut, their first album. I usually take a cautious approach to music in these cases. But this time I don't have to. We're dealing with a fine piece of rotten meat. The songs have everything necessary for a good party. Drive, power, energy and coolness. The doughnut is open!

I like the fact that the band has done the work with the cover and the sound. Formally, everything is in the best order. But that wasn't enough. There are a lot of similar bands today. But I decided to write about GUTS and support them because their music cuts with the right side of the knife. They have a feel for morbid melodies, an ability to write themes that immediately cut deep under my skin. I've been roaming the underground for many years, since the 1980s, and I still appreciate music most when it's played from the heart. "Decay" makes me feel like I've just exhumed a fresh grave. A corpse in a considerable state of decomposition, the mist between the tombstones, the souls of the dead and the demons. All this belongs to this style, like a coffin to a dead person. I like the roughly chopped thrash passages, but especially the darkness and coldness that drip from the riffs like tainted blood. The songs roll forward like water in a dirty gutter. I crank up the volume and I'm an old grave digger, swaying to the beat, imagining a gig in a seedy little club. Yes, this is what death metal has always been about for me. Finns worship the same idols I do. They play convincingly, interestingly and most importantly - the new album is fun to listen to. That's probably the most important thing for me. Melodies full of death and frozen blood! A decomposing death metal carcass!
