Předpovědi byly děsivé. Všichni doslova viseli na obrazovkách. Ve vzduchu byl cítit strach a nenávist. Konečně jsme se dočkali. Apokalypsa nastala brzy ráno. Satan se usmíval a Smrt brousila svojí kosti. Bylo fascinující se dívat na kdysi tak špinavé a zkažené město, jak je ničeno přívalovou vlnou. Padající domy, nářek obětí. Potom nastalo ticho. Jakoby se celý svět restartoval. Přesně takový dojem na mě dělá i nové album amerických black metalistů AKHLYS.
Je jako temný sen, jako děsivá noční můra, která se vám neustále vrací. Probouzíte se uprostřed noci, vyděšení. Naleznete zde jak odkazy na klasický, švédský black metal, tak i spoustu ambientních a industriálních prvků. Skladby jsou velmi naléhavé, jedovaté, zničující. Jako temná vlna, která vás spláchne do hlubin.
Je moc dobře, že se kapela nedrží pouze zavedených šablon, ale vydává se hledat další a nová temná zákoutí. Jako bych se proplétal mezi stíny, díval se na protáhlé obličeje zemřelých, jako bych byl dávno na onom světě. Skladby jsou napsány takovým způsobem, že se vám dostanou postupně do krve i do podvědomí. Normálně bych si stěžoval na jejich délku, ale tentokrát mi to vůbec nevadí. Neustále se totiž něco děje, jednotlivé motivy se různě přelévají, gradují. Jednou jsou jako černá, špinavá stoka pod vaším městem, jindy dají na chvilku malý záblesk naděje, aby vás nakonec stejně stáhli do hlubin. O zvuku, obalu a dalších formálních věcech není třeba mluvit, vše je na vynikající úrovni. Nebudu vám tu ani rozebírat jednotlivé songy. Jednak by vás to nebavilo a hlavně - album je nutné poslouchat jako celek. Teprve potom totiž naplno vynikne jeho temná síla. AKHLYS se povedlo nahrát desku, ke které se budu ještě dlouho vracet. Je totiž po okraj narvaná zajímavými nápady a pokaždé si pro sebe objevím něco nového a neotřelého. Jsou zkrátka muzikanti, kteří mají dar na to, zhmotnit tmu, vzít vás na pradávné okultní rituály. Američané mají navíc svůj vlastní rukopis a zůstává po nich krvavá stopa. Říká se, že Satan má mnoho podob. Může to být děsivá bestie nebo tichý, milý chlápek ze sousedství. Lidem do hlavy nevidíte. Kapele se povedlo všechny tyhle odstíny promítnout do své hudby. Je v ní síla, energie načerpaná v záhrobí, je v ní spousta bolesti. "House of the Black Geminus" má v sobě něco neklidného, děsivého, něco, co vás přikove na zeď. Chladná, temná black metalová vlna, která vás strhne do nekonečných hlubin nicoty! Ďábelský rituál!

The predictions were dire. Everyone was literally hanging on the screens. There was fear and hatred in the air. Finally, we've seen it. The apocalypse came early in the morning. Satan was smiling and Death was grinding his bones. It was fascinating to watch a once so dirty and corrupt city being destroyed by a tidal wave. The falling houses, the cries of the victims. Then there was silence. It was as if the whole world was rebooting. That's exactly the impression that the new album by American black metallers AKHLYS makes on me.
It's like a dark dream, like a terrifying nightmare that keeps coming back to you. You wake up in the middle of the night, terrified. You will find references to classic, Swedish black metal, as well as a lot of ambient and industrial elements. The songs are very urgent, venomous, devastating. Like a dark wave that washes you into the depths.
It's very good that the band doesn't just stick to the established templates, but sets out to find new dark corners. I feel like I'm weaving through the shadows, looking at the elongated faces of the dead, as if I were long ago in the other world. The songs are written in such a way that they gradually get into your blood and subconscious. Normally I would complain about their length, but this time it doesn't bother me at all. Something is happening all the time, the individual motifs overlap and graduate. Sometimes they are like a black, dirty sewer under your city, sometimes they give a small glimpse of hope for a moment, only to drag you down to the depths in the end. There is no need to talk about the sound, cover and other formal things, everything is on an excellent level. I'm not even going to break down the individual songs here. For one thing, it would be boring and most importantly - the album must be listened to as a whole. Only then will its dark power fully emerge. AKHLYS have managed to record an album that I will be coming back to for a long time. It's packed to the brim with interesting ideas and every time I discover something new and novel for myself. They are simply musicians who have a gift for materializing darkness, for taking you on ancient occult rituals. Moreover, the Americans have their own handwriting and leave a bloody trail. It is said that Satan takes many forms. He can be a terrifying beast or a quiet, nice guy from the neighborhood. You can't see inside people's heads. The band has managed to incorporate all these shades into their music. There's power in it, energy drawn from beyond the grave, there's a lot of pain in it. "House of the Black Geminus" has something unsettling, scary, something that will drive you up the wall. A cold, dark black metal wave that will sweep you into the endless depths of nothingness! An evil ritual!
