Sraz jsme měli už kolem páté hodiny. Vyzvedly mě holky a hned se pochlubily, jaké mají nové nášivky na džínových vestách. Máme pro tebe překvapení, řekly mi a dali jsme si pivo. Na periferii našeho města, na sídlišti, kde je jenom beton, šeď a asfalt. Když dorazíme na místo, jsou tu už všichni. Těšíme se, dnes se nám má představit nová kapela z Litvy. Říkají si NIGHT SLASHER a hrají black speed metal. Vypneme kazeťák, který jsme měli celé odpoledne na ramenou a sejdeme do sklepa. Kapela je už na pódiu.
Zazní první ostrý riff a mě obejmou jako nějaké prašivé pavučiny staré vzpomínky. Vyrůstal jsem v socialismu a tenkrát byly metalové akce trošku jako spiknutí. Znali jsme se všichni. Psal se konec osmdesátých let a podobné smečky, jako jsou NIGHT SLASHER, jsme tenkrát milovali.
Dalo by se říci, že novou vlnu thrashe, blacku a speedu chápu. Dovedu si představit, že bych byl zase mladý a podobné skupiny uctíval. Jenže už mladý nejsem a mám za sebou dlouhou historii. Litevci nejsou nijak originální, ani nepřinášejí nic nového. Nicméně, myslím si, že to vůbec nevadí. Dnes už stejně nikdo nic stylotvorného nevymyslí a poslouchat stále dokola mnohdy již unavené legendy mi nedává moc smysl. Jsem vždy moc rád za novou krev. Pánové hrají odhodlaně, ostře, nezapomínají ani na temné melodie. Mají velmi dobrý zvuk, obal, dodržují všechny důležité náležitosti stylu. Není to ale jenom dobré řemeslo. Stejnojmenný debut má v sobě totiž ještě něco navíc, takový ten must have efekt. Já vím, všechno tu už bylo, ale přesto, rád jsem se k desce vracel. Je svým způsobem jedovatá a myslím si, že kdyby hráli u nás ve městě, třeba jako předkapela někoho slavnějšího, rozhodně bych na koncert zašel. Už bych na sobě sice neměl džínovou bundu a šel bych jen s pár dalšími starými psy, jako jsem já, ale myslím si, že bych si jejich vystoupení určitě užil. Je to nářez? Je! Má to ty správný metalový koule? Má! Pokud nepotřebujete řešit nic jiného, přidejte hlasitost, otevřete si pivo a pak uslyšíte sami. Za mě dobrý a jsem rád, že jsem si zase jednou trošku rozšířil obzory. Pokud máte rádi HELLRIPER, MIDNIGHT a podobné tmáře, neváhejte ani chvilku. We were supposed to meet around five o'clock. The girls picked me up and immediately showed off the new patches on their denim vests. We have a surprise for you, they told me, and we had a beer. On the outskirts of our town, on a housing estate with nothing but concrete, grey and asphalt. When we get there, they're all here. We're excited, today we're going to see a new band from Lithuania. They call themselves NIGHT SLASHER and they play black speed metal. We turn off the tape recorder we've had on our shoulders all afternoon and go down to the basement. The band is already on stage.
The first sharp riff is played and I am embraced like some dusty cobwebs of old memories. I grew up in socialism, and back then, metal events were a bit of a conspiracy. We all knew each other. It was the late 80s and we loved bands like NIGHT SLASHER back then.
You could say that I understand the new wave of thrash, black rock and speed. I can imagine being young again and worshipping bands like that. But I'm not young anymore and I have a long history. The Lithuanians are not original, nor do they bring anything new. However, I don't think it matters at all. Nobody can come up with anything stylish nowadays anyway, and listening over and over again to often tired legends doesn't make much sense to me. I am always very happy for new blood. Gentlemen play with determination, sharpness, they don't forget about dark melodies either. They have a very good sound, cover, they follow all the important elements of style. But it's not just good craftsmanship. In fact, the eponymous debut has something extra, a kind of must have effect. I know, it's all been there before, but still, I liked coming back to the record. It's poisonous in a way, and I think if they were playing in my town, maybe as an opening act for someone more famous, I would definitely go to the concert. I mean, I wouldn't be wearing a denim jacket anymore and I'd just go with a few other old dogs like me, but I think I'd definitely enjoy their performance. Is it a blast? It is! Does it have the right metal balls? It does! If you don't need to deal with anything else, turn up the volume, crack open a beer and then hear for yourself. Good for me, and I'm glad to have expanded my horizons a little bit again. If you like HELLRIPER, MIDNIGHT and similar darkies, don't hesitate a moment. The first sharp riff hits and I'm embraced like some dusty cobwebs by old memories. The flame has been lit! Black thrash speed metal ride straight to hell!
