Jak jde čas, tak si někdy představuji, jak budu jednou ležet v otevřené rakvi. Nechci, aby mi hráli na pohřbu nějaké podivné žalmy. Jsem death metalista tělem i duší a moc dobře vím, o čem je pravá, reálná a syrová smrt. Poslouchám tenhle styl více než třicet let a s dámou v kápi, co má nabroušenou kosu, jsem se setkal již mnohokrát. Nejvíce cítím její přítomnost právě při poslechu nahrávek, jako je letošní zásek legendárních BENEDICTION.
"Ravage of Empires" je přesně tím druhem alba, které si pustíte jednou, podruhé a potom s ním strávíte několik týdnů. Budete mlátit do stolu, kývat spokojeně do rytmu hlavou a v myšlenkách se ztratíte v době, kdy byly pohřby do země realitou a hudba musela řezat ostrou stranou nože. Je to skvělá deska, to je bez debat. Pro nás, co nám koluje tenhle styl v žilách, to platí na sto procent. Pro nás je také nahrávka určena.
Je to vlastně jednoduché. Opět se tu sešla death metalová šlechta, muzikanti, kteří moc dobře vědí co a jak chtějí hrát a nabouchala ve studiu skladby, u kterých praskají kosti tlakem. Je to zkrátka tak, berte a nebo nechte být. Je to tsunami, studený vítr v katakombách, je to klasické, poctivé šílenství, které máme všichni u téhle skupiny rádi. Dave Ingram za mikrofonem zraje jako dobrý bourbon a ostatní rozhodně nezaostávají. Ostré riffy, divoké bicí, atmosféra známá z podsvětí, tohle všechno dohromady tvoří koktejl, který mi dělá opravdu dobře. A vůbec mi nevadí, že při něm znovu a znovu umírám v bolestivých křečích. Marně hledám nějaká kritická slova. Vždyť bylo splněno vše pro to, abych si poslech neskutečně užíval. Masivní, prašivý, starosvětský zvuk, parádní stylový obal, ale hlavně touha ničit hudbou, to jsou věci, které se nedají naučit. Musíte je mít v sobě, musíte věřit tomu, co hrajete. Je to album, které je složené a tvořené srdcem. Alespoň tak vnímám novinku "Ravage of Empires" já, starý pes. A tak se znovu a znovu dívám do tmy a čekám na pozvání do nekoneční říše mrtvých. Britové vás vezmou na výlet bez konce. A dělají to s elegancí, nadhledem a samozřejmě velkou porcí talentu. Čerpají ze svých vlastních nápadů, přidávají nové momenty, pasáže. Desku jsem vždy poslouchal jako celek a vám to také doporučuji. Jednotlivé songy na sebe totiž tak nějak automaticky navazují a tvoří monolit, který vás strhne do hlubiny. BENEDICTION se opět představují ve vynikající formě a já nemohu jinak, než vám nové album doporučit. Kapela působí jako perfektně seřízený stroj na zabíjení. Jak jde čas, tak si někdy představuji, jak budu jednou ležet v otevřené rakvi. Je vám doufám jasné, co mi bude hrát na pohřbu? Old school death metalový buldozer, který vám přeláme všechny kosti v těle! Masakr v márnici!

As time goes on, I sometimes imagine myself lying in an open coffin someday. I don't want some strange psalm played at my funeral. I'm a death metaller in body and soul and I know very well what true, real and raw death is all about. I've been listening to this style for over thirty years and I've met the lady in the hood with the sharpened scythe many times. I feel her presence the most when listening to records like this year's hit from the legendary BENEDICTION.
"Ravage of Empires" is exactly the kind of album that you listen to once, listen to a second time, and then spend a few weeks with. You'll be pounding the table, nodding your head in satisfaction to the beat, and getting lost in your thoughts in a time when burials in the ground were a reality and music had to cut with the sharp side of a knife. It's a great record, no question about it. For those of us with this style running through our veins, that's 100% true. For us, too, the record is for us.
It's actually simple. Once again, death metal royalty, musicians who know very well what they want to play and how they want to play it, gathered here in the studio and hammered out songs that make your bones crack with pressure. It's simply this, take it or leave it. It's a tsunami, a cold wind in the catacombs, it's the classic, honest madness we all love about this band. Dave Ingram is aging like a fine bourbon behind the microphone and the others certainly don't fall short. The sharp riffs, the ferocious drums, the atmosphere familiar from the underworld, all of these combine to create a cocktail that makes me feel really good. And I don't mind dying in painful convulsions over and over again. I search in vain for some critical words. After all, everything has been fulfilled to make me enjoy listening incredibly. The massive, dusty, old-world sound, the awesome stylish cover, but above all the desire to destroy with music, these are things that can't be taught. You have to have it in you, you have to believe in what you're playing. It's an album that's composed and created with the heart. At least that's how I, an old dog, feel about the new "Ravage of Empires". And so I look into the darkness again and again, waiting for an invitation into the infinite realm of the dead. The British take you on a journey without end. And they do it with grace, panache and, of course, a heaping helping of talent. They draw on their own ideas, add new moments, passages. I've always listened to the album as a whole and I recommend it to you as well. The individual songs somehow automatically build on each other and form a monolith that takes you into the depths. BENEDICTION are once again in excellent form and I cannot but recommend the new album to you. The band comes across as a perfectly tuned killing machine. As time goes on, I sometimes imagine myself lying in an open coffin one day. I hope it's clear to you what's going to play at my funeral. An old school death metal bulldozer that will break every bone in your body! Massacre in the morgue!
