Někdy se cítím jako v povídce od Franze Kafky Proměna. Probouzím se v tiché noci a stávám se postupně děsivou příšerou. Čerpám temnou energii z vesmíru i z jiných dimenzí. Nasávám pach hniloby, přemýšlím, jaké to jednou bude, až přejdu na druhou stranu. Osamocen ve své ulitě, poslouchám už jenom hudbu, která je mému srdci vlastní, která mě dokáže rozdrásat zevnitř. ANCIENT DEATH pocházejí z Walpole, Massachusetts a hrají klasický death metal, který ale doplňují o spoustu dalších prvků.

Na jejich prvním dlouhohrajícím albu tak naleznete do krvavé mlhy zahalené pasáže, spoustu drtivých momentů, ale i vznešené a rozevláté melodie. Výsledný koktejl je potom opravdu velmi chutný. Pokud tedy od hudby čekáte i něco navíc, něco syrového, neuchopitelného, neklidného.

V souvislosti s touhle smečkou bývají zmiňovány kapely jako DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, THE CHASM, STARGAZER, DECEASED, GRACE DISGRACED. Možná vás napadnou i další přirovnání, ale to není zase tolik důležité. Hlavní je, že nová nahrávka drží perfektně kompaktně pohromadě, má v sobě spoustu vlastních nápadů a myšlenek. Syrový klasický a tradičně pojatý smrtící kov je zde opředený pevnými sci-fi pavučinami. Zazní i čistý ženský vokál. Zvukově se jedná o velmi podařený počin, to je bez debat a co se týká obalu (Maegan LeMay), tak ve mě evokuje motivy z alb starých death metalových klasiků. Všechno je zdá se v nejlepším pořádku a vy si tak můžete vychutnat hudbu samotnou. Líbilo se mi vracet se zpátky do šílených nočních můr, novinku "Ego Dissolution" jsem si aplikoval nejvíce těsně před spaním a musím potvrdit, že se mi hudba promítla i do REM fáze spánku. Skvělé je, že ANCIENT DEATH uchopili death metal po svém, jsou rozpoznatelní od ostatních, svým způsobem originální. Je znát, že pánové a dáma dělají svoji práci poctivě, s velkou porcí talentu a odhodlání. Osobně si potom nejvíc užívám atmosféru, takové ty těkavé, těžko uchopitelné nálady, které létají kolem jako můry kolem ohně. Tohle je muzika, u které byste se měli dívat na černou oblohu, u které byste měli nechat svoji fantazii, aby se vznášela kolem, tohle je nahrávka, která musí udělat dobře každému, kdo rád přemýšlí a je mu vlastní filozofie, psychedelie, esoterismus i krutá smrt. Temný, mrazivý, vznešeně podmanivý death metal, který vás vezme na výlet do jiných dimenzí! Vesmír i lidská mysl jsou nekonečné!

Thus, on their first full-length album you will find passages shrouded in a bloody fog, plenty of crushing moments, but also sublime and sweeping melodies. The resulting cocktail is very tasty indeed. If you expect something more from music, something raw, ungraspable, restless.

Bands like DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, THE CHASM, STARGAZER, DECEASED, GRACE DISGRACED are often mentioned in connection with this pack. You may think of other comparisons, but that's not so important. The main thing is that the new record holds together perfectly compactly, it has a lot of its own ideas and thoughts. Raw classic and traditionally conceived death metal is here wrapped in tight sci-fi webs. There's a clean female vocal too. Sonically, this is a very accomplished piece of work, no question about that, and as for the cover art (Maegan LeMay), it evokes themes from old death metal classics albums in me. Everything seems to be in the best order and you can enjoy the music itself. I enjoyed going back to the crazy nightmares, I applied the novelty of "Ego Dissolution" most just before bedtime and I must confirm that the music translated into my REM sleep phase. The great thing is that ANCIENT DEATH have grasped death metal in their own way, they are recognizable from others, original in their own way. You can tell that the gentlemen and lady are doing their job honestly, with a great deal of talent and dedication. Personally, then, I enjoy the atmosphere the most, those volatile, hard to grasp moods that fly around like moths around a fire. This is music that you should look at the black sky to, that you should let your imagination float around to, this is a record that must do good to anyone who likes to think and owns philosophy, psychedelia, esotericism and cruel death. Dark, freezing, sublimely captivating death metal that will take you on a trip to other dimensions! The universe and the human mind are infinite!
