Nekonečný souboj dobra a zla. Tváře vystupující ze tmy, bolest a utrpení. Šepot nemrtvých, neustále dokola opakujících děsivou mantru o dlouhých stínech. Lidská historie je plná násilí a zatím to vypadá, že spirála se dál roztáčí. Čím dál tím častěji se raději uzavírám do starých katakomb a poslouchám hudbu, která je mému srdci blízká. Někde nahoře hoří celý svět a já naslouchám ozvěnám ze záhrobí. Jednou se všichni rozpadneme v prach. Než se tak ale stane, tak budu dál poslouchat kapely, jako jsou švédští WOMBBATH. Letos přicházejí s novou deskou, silnější než kdy dřív.
Již minule došlo k lehkému stylovému posunu, k větší melodičnosti, s důrazem na progresivní prvky. Osobně mi to vyhovuje. Základem je stále syrový švédský death metal s příměsí chladu a absolutní tmy, ale původní, klasické myšlenky jsou nadále rozvíjeny. Směrem do temnoty. A také divoké agresivity.
Sami muzikanti uvádějí, že jim byly stále volnou inspirací kapely jako CARCASS, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER a EDGE OF SANITY. Samozřejmě, máme tu zde co do činění se starými bardy, s veterány, kteří mají dávno svůj jasně definovatelný rukopis. Není proto divu, že jsou nové skladby obestřeny takovými těmi pevnými a smradlavými pavučinami, které lze vystopovat u kapel s takhle dlouhou historií. Zároveň zůstala kapele touha ničit, roztrhat vás na kusy. Líbí se mi vlastně všechno, což se sice u starých věrných fanoušků předpokládá, ale kdybych byl s něčím nespokojen, ozval bych, to je jasné. Jenže nemusím. Povedl se masivní a ostrý zvuk (Jonny Pettersson - mixing, mastering, recording), jsem spokojený i s obalem (Julian F. Mora), který ve mě probudil spoustu děsivých obrazů v mé hlavě. Zkrátka a dobře, nová deska "Beyond The Abyss" je nejen skvěle odvedeným řemeslem, ale také hudbou, která se velmi dobře poslouchá a také má v sobě spoustu zajímavých a neotřelých momentů. Osobně si potom užívám hlavně atmosféru, takové ty zvláštní, do černých a pochmurných nálad zabarvené nálady. U nás, ve starých katakombách, platí rovnější a upřímnější pravidla, než v současném divném světě. Pokud nejste ryzí a nehrajete od srdce, tak nemáte šanci ani u mě, ani i démonů. WOMBBATH tohle všechno mají a ještě přidávají něco navíc. Kus sebe samých, spoustu melodií, které se vám zadřou pod kůži i do podvědomí. Nekonečný souboj dobra a zla. Tuhle desku vám mohu jenom doporučit. Je v ní totiž spousta syrové energie a talentu pro záhrobní věci. Mocné, chladné a temně podmanivé death metalové album, které vás strhne do hlubin věčnosti! Potkáte stíny svých vlastních démonů!

Human history is full of violence, and so far the spiral seems to be continuing to spiral. More and more I prefer to shut myself away in the old catacombs and listen to music that is close to my heart. Somewhere up there, the whole world is on fire and I'm listening to the echoes from beyond the grave. One day we'll all crumble into dust. But until that happens, I'll keep listening to bands like Sweden's WOMBBATH. This year they're coming out with a new record, stronger than ever.
There was already a slight stylistic shift last time, more melodic, with an emphasis on progressive elements. Personally, I like it. The base is still raw Swedish death metal with a dash of coldness and absolute darkness, but the original, classic ideas are still developed. Towards darkness. And also wild aggression.
The musicians themselves say that they were still inspired by bands like CARCASS, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and EDGE OF SANITY. Of course, we are dealing with old bards here, veterans who have long had their clearly definable signature. It's not surprising, therefore, that the new songs are shrouded in the kind of tight and stinky cobwebs that can be traced in bands with such a long history. At the same time, what remains is the band's desire to destroy, to tear you apart. I like pretty much everything, which is to be expected with old loyal fans, but if I was unhappy with something I would speak up, that's for sure. I just don't have to. The sound is massive and crisp (Jonny Pettersson - mixing, mastering, recording), and I'm happy with the cover art (Julian F. Mora), which awakened a lot of scary images in my head. All in all, the new album "Beyond The Abyss" is not only a well done craft, but also music that is very easy to listen to and also has a lot of interesting and novel moments in it. Personally, I especially enjoy the atmosphere, those strange, black and gloomy moods. Here, in the old catacombs, there are straighter and more honest rules than in today's strange world. If you're not pure and you don't play from the heart, you don't stand a chance with me or the demons. WOMBBATH has all that and then some. A piece of themselves, a lot of melodies that get under your skin and into your subconscious. An endless battle between good and evil. Faces rising out of the darkness, pain and suffering. There's a lot of raw energy and talent for things beyond the grave. A powerful, cold and darkly captivating death metal album that will take you to the depths of eternity! You will meet the shadows of your own demons!
