Díval jsem se na mraky, které obestíraly horu. Jakoby ji chtěly pohltit. Sedával jsem před domem a sledoval, jak se kolem mě mění příroda. Četl jsem si staré knihy, obracel na gramofonu desky, které už dnes nikdo nezná. Potom se setmělo a já věděl, že nastal čas. Bylo léto, přesto zima. Hledám ve svém přehrávači, co bych si pustil. Nové album THORIUM bylo jasnou volbou. Mám tuhle dánskou smečku, personálně i stylově svázanou se švédskou scénou, ve velké oblibě. Znám celou jejich diskografii, přesto jsem byl napnutý, jak bude novinka "The Bastard" znít.
Soused mi včera říkal, že se vrátili vlci. Nevím, co je na tom pravdy, ale jistý jsem si s tím, že novinka je totálně zničujícím albem. Se spoustou starých postupů (na kterých se podíleli Rogga Johansson (Paganizer), Thomas Olsson (Blackscape)), přesto se soundem současnosti. Výsledek? Pro mě další probdělá noc a hudba, která se mi dostala do krve. Mraky jsou zase jednou velmi nízko.
Směr je tentokrát opět zcela jasný. Na sever! Do starodávných lesů. Mezi přízraky, démony a na dávno opuštěná pohřebiště. Ano, setkání s novou deskou mi připomíná výlet do časů, kdy se pohřbívalo jenom do země a mohli jste potkat samotnou Smrt. Líbí se mi, že THORIUM mají svůj vlastní rukopis, výraz, že je poznáte během několika tónů. Letos to opět potvrzují a vracejí se ke svým kořenům. Novinka je syrová, temná i chladná zároveň. Zadřela se mi ihned pod kůži a zůstala tam až doteď. Album se mi líbí i zvukově (o mix a mastering alba se postaral Marco Angioni v Angioni Studios). O skvělém obalu (Roberto Toderico) také netřeba diskutovat. Pánové jsou natolik zkušení, že si na tyto věci dali velký pozor. Vy se tak můžete soustředit na samotné nápady, na jednotlivé pasáže, na podmanivou atmosféru. Ostré riffy se zde potkávají se surovými bicími, důrazným vokálem. Pokud jste staří metaloví psi, asi víte o čem píšu. Sedím před domem a dívám se do tmy a prostě vím, že je to tam. Ta síla, energie, talent, ledový vítr ze severu. "The Bastard" je ale nahrávkou, která by mohla oslovit i mladší posluchače. Je stará i svěží zároveň. Po okraj narvaná nápady, které se mi dostaly do krve i do podvědomí. Dánové jsou znovu ve skvělé formě. Potvrdit to mohu já, i vlci, kteří se vrátili. A teď už mě prosím nechte, chci si číst, dívat se na mraky, které obestírají horu. Jakoby ji chtěly pohltit. Sedím před domem a sleduji, jak se kolem mě mění příroda. Už dávno se setmělo. Skvělé album, po všech stránkách. Chladné, temné, krvavé severské death metalové kořeny! Ryzí, syrová odpověď na vichřici ze záhrobí!

I looked at the clouds that enveloped the mountain. It was as if they wanted to swallow it. I sat outside my house and watched nature change around me. I read old books, turned records on the gramophone that nobody knows anymore. Then it got dark and I knew it was time. It was summer, yet cold. I searched my record player for something to play. The new THORIUM album was the obvious choice. I'm very fond of this Danish pack, tied to the Swedish scene in terms of personnel and style. I know their entire discography, yet I was on tenterhooks as to what the new release "The Bastard" would sound like.
My neighbor told me yesterday that the wolves were back. I don't know what's true about that, but I'm sure the new album is a total smash. With a lot of old techniques (co-written by Rogga Johansson (Paganizer), Thomas Olsson (Blackscape)), yet with a contemporary sound. The result? For me, another sleepless night and music that got into my blood. The clouds are once again very low.
The direction is again quite clear this time. North! Into the ancient forests. Among ghosts, demons and long-abandoned burial grounds. Yes, encountering the new record reminds me of a trip back to the days when you could only bury yourself in the ground and meet Death himself. I like that THORIUM have their own signature, an expression that you can recognize them within a few notes. This year they confirm it again and go back to their roots. The new album is raw, dark and cold at the same time. It got under my skin right away and stayed there until now. I also like the album sonically (Marco Angioni at Angioni Studios took care of the mixing and mastering). The great cover art (Roberto Toderico) also needs no discussion. The gentlemen are so experienced that they took great care of these things. So you can concentrate on the ideas themselves, on the individual passages, on the captivating atmosphere. Sharp riffs meet raw drums, emphatic vocals. If you're an old metal dog, you probably know what I'm writing about. I'm sitting outside my house looking into the darkness and I just know it's there. The power, the energy, the talent, the icy wind from the north. But "The Bastard" is a record that might appeal to younger listeners. It's old and fresh at the same time. Packed to the brim with ideas that have gotten into my blood and subconscious. The Danes are in great form again. I can attest to that, and so can the wolves who have returned. Now please leave me alone, I want to read, to look at the clouds that envelop the mountain. It's as if they want to engulf it. I sit outside my house and watch nature change around me. It's long past dark. Great album, all round. Cold, dark, bloody Nordic death metal roots! A pure, raw answer to the storm from beyond!
