Když opadl prvotní šok, lidé si začali všechnu tu krev užívat. S napětím četli nové zprávy, vyprávěli si o něm, někteří jej dokonce uctívali. Mladé dívky si představovaly, jak ho potkají v tiché, temné ulici a prořízne jim hrdlo. Nakonec bylo všechno jinak. Rozpoutal nihilistické peklo na zemi. Byl jsem tenkrát malý kluk, když jsem viděl film New York Ripper u staršího kamaráda. Bál jsem jít domů a měl jsem noční můry. Ano, italští brutální death metalisté se opět inspirovali u režiséra, který nese stejné jméno - FULCI.

Když jsem se potom postupně dostal ke kapelám jako MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, pochopil jsem, že je všechna ta morbidita nadsázka, že krev je falešná a děsivé výkřiky mladých hereček nahrané. Spojení hororových filmů a smrtícího kovu se mi líbí, patří tak nějak k sobě. Jako k mrtvému rakev nebo urna. Italové navíc oba světy spojují velmi elegantně. Nudit se rozhodně nebudete. Film jsem si schválně znovu pustil a potom i desku "Duck Face Killings" (což je mimochodem skvělý název) a opravdu, všechno k sobě sedí perfektně.

Velmi často si na film vzpomenu, když chodím špinavými ulicemi do práce. V parku se válí divné postavy, některé mají shnilé maso na kostech. Jakoby byli všichni dávno mrtví, přesto ještě trošku žili. Některým místům se vyhýbám, obzvláště těm, kde se stala nějaká hnusná vražda. Se sluchátky na uších poslouchám tohle album a užívám si nejen klasický brutální death metal, ale i všechny ty vložené pasáže. Zazní saxofon, různá intra, ale třeba i rap. Normálně by mi přišla deska spíše roztříštěná, ale ona drží pevně pohromadě. Jednotlivé songy gradují, mají v sobě drive a sílu. Vše se valí kupředu jako čerstvá krev z tepny, kterou právě nějaký maniak prořízl. Lovit sériové vrahy musí být něco šíleného, ale myslím si, že se kapele povedlo vytvořit velmi podobnou atmosféru. Osobně mám raději spíše starší hororové příběhy, fascinuje mě na nich jejich syrovost, opravdovost, upřímnost a již zmíněná nadsázka. Dalo by se také napsat, že to samé se mi líbí i na tvorbě FULCI. Pánové se neberou příliš vážně, ale také odvádějí dobré řemeslo. Bez toho by to koneckonců nešlo. Jasně, po hudební stránce se nejedná o nic nového, ale nijak mi to nevadí. Pro mě je hlavní, že je to masakr, velmi dobře zahraný, že v márnici hnijí další těla, že v ulicích řádí krvelačná bestie. Navíc, a na to prosím nezapomínejme, mě baví nové album opravdu poslouchat. Zkrátka a dobře, novinku "Duck Face Killings" ocení všichni, kteří mají rádi v tomto stylu tradice a spojení s děsivými filmy. Když opadl prvotní šok, lidé si začali všechnu tu krev užívat. When the initial shock wore off, people started enjoying all the blood. They read the news with excitement, told stories about him, some even worshipped him. Young girls imagined meeting him in a quiet, dark street and having their throats slit. In the end, everything was different. He unleashed nihilistic hell on earth. I was a little boy at the time when I saw the movie New York Ripper at an older friend's house. I was afraid to go home and had nightmares. Yes, the Italian brutal death metallers were once again inspired by the director who bears the same name - FULCI.

Then, when I gradually got to bands like MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, I understood that all the morbidity was an exaggeration, that the blood was fake and the terrifying screams of the young actresses were staged. I like the combination of horror films and death metal, they kind of belong together. Like a coffin or an urn. The Italians also combine the two worlds very elegantly. You won't be bored. I purposely re-watched the film and then the "Duck Face Killings" album (which is a great title, by the way) and really, everything fits together perfectly.

I think of the film very often when I walk the dirty streets to work. There are strange characters in the park, some with rotten flesh on their bones. It's like they're all long dead, yet still a little bit alive. Some places I avoid, especially those where there's been a nasty murder. With headphones on I listen to this album and enjoy not only the classic brutal death metal, but all the embedded passages. There's saxophone, various intros, and even rap. Normally I would find the album rather fragmented, but it holds together tightly. The individual songs graduate, they have drive and power. Everything rolls forward like fresh blood from an artery that some maniac just cut through. Hunting serial killers must be something crazy, but I think the band has managed to create a very similar atmosphere. Personally, I tend to prefer older horror stories, what fascinates me about them is their rawness, sincerity and the aforementioned hyperbole. One could also write that I like the same thing about FULCI's work. The gentlemen don't take themselves too seriously, but they also do good work. It wouldn't work without that, after all. Sure, musically it's nothing new, but I don't mind. For me, the main thing is that it's a massacre, very well acted, that there are more bodies rotting in the morgue, that there are bloodthirsty beasts rampaging through the streets. Plus, and please let's not forget this, I really enjoy listening to the new album. In short, the new "Duck Face Killings" will be appreciated by all those who like the tradition in this style and the connection with scary movies.
