U některých hostin jsem zpočátku ostýchavý. Nevím, co mám ochutnat nejdříve. Některé pochoutky, které všem chutnají, tak mi příliš nevoní. Mám raději jednoduchá jídla, jasná a zřetelná. S hudbou to mívám velmi podobně. Jenže občas dostanu chuť na něco nového, neotřelého, zajímavého. Většinou si sednu, prohledám databázi novinek, které přišly na recenzi a vyberu si něco, co mě zaujme. S EVILYN to bylo zpočátku těžké. Nemohl jsem se do skladeb dostat, nebavily mě a několikrát jsem jejich debutové album odložil.
Raději jsem si chvíli četl, díval se na filmy. Přesto ve mě cosi hlodalo a musel jsem se k nahrávce vrátit. Jako bych chytil nějaký vir. Vůbec jsem zpočátku nevěděl, že v kapele působí zkušení muzikanti jako Alex Weber (Malignancy, Exist, Obscura - live, Anthony Lipari (Thoren) a Robin Stone (Norse). Vlastně ani nevím, kdy poprvé došlo ke vzájemnému přenosu a začala se mi deska líbit. Možná to bylo jedné deštivé noci, když byly mraky nízko a vypadalo to, že každou chvíli spadnou na zem.
Nové album je volně inspirované tím, co hrají kapely typu MORBID ANGEL, DISCHORDIA, MAERE, COMA CLUSTER VOID, GORGUTS, SAEVUS FINIS. Rozhodně se jedná o nahrávku, která osloví spíše hudební gurmány, všechny ty maniaky, kteří ještě stále rádi objevují, mají bohatou fantazii a dokážou překousnout počáteční složitost skladeb. Po formální stránce se vše povedlo na výbornou. Zvuk (Mixed and mastered by Jeanne Comateuse) i obal (Artwork by Jeanne Comateuse (Coma Cluster Void)) jsou na velmi vysoké úrovni a vy se tak můžete plně soustředit na jednotlivé skladby. V některých momentech mi přijde album možná až příliš rozvláčné, ale moji připomínku berte s nadhledem. Desku je nutné poslouchat v kuse, v klidu a s plným soustředěním. Teprve potom vyniknou jednotlivé pasáže i odstíny. Zkrátka a dobře, hraje se tu technicky, disonantně, divoce, těžce a překvapivě. Každý song je samostatným opusem, temnou a chladnou symfonií. Nahrávka ale drží pohromadě i jako celek, je kompaktní a návyková. Je sice pravdou, že na podobné desky musím mít chuť a náladu, ale když už nastanou, tak rád volím "Mondestrunken". Jakoby tahle hudba ani nebyla z našeho světa, ale odněkud z vesmíru, ovlivněná civilizacemi, které jsou na tom technicky i mentálně lépe, než náš druh. EVILYN se představili ve velmi dobré formě a nahráli album, které rozhodně stojí za pozornost. A teď už mě prosím nechte, musím jít zase ochutnávat. Avantgardní, technický, disonantní death metal z jiných sfér!

I'm shy at first at some of the feasts. I don't know what to taste first. Some delicacies that everyone likes don't smell too good to me. I prefer simple dishes, clear and distinct. I'm very similar with music. But sometimes I get a craving for something new, novel, interesting. Usually I sit down, search the database of new releases that have come up for review and pick something that catches my eye. With EVILYN, it was hard at first. I couldn't get into the songs, I wasn't enjoying them, and I put their debut album on hold a few times.
I preferred to read for a while, watch movies. Still, something was gnawing at me and I had to go back to the record. It was like I'd caught a virus. I didn't know at first that the band had experienced musicians like Alex Weber (Malignancy, Exist, Obscura - live, Anthony Lipari (Thoren) and Robin Stone (Norse). Actually, I don't even know when the mutual transfer first happened and I started to like the record. Maybe it was one rainy night when the clouds were low and it looked like they were going to fall to the ground at any moment.
The new album is loosely inspired by bands like MORBID ANGEL, DISCHORDIA, MAERE, COMA CLUSTER VOID, GORGUTS, SAEVUS FINIS. It is definitely a record that will appeal more to music gourmets, all those maniacs who still like to explore, have a rich imagination and can get over the initial complexity of the songs. Formally, everything has been done to perfection. Both the sound (Mixed and mastered by Jeanne Comateuse) and the artwork (Artwork by Jeanne Comateuse (Coma Cluster Void)) are of a very high standard, so you can fully concentrate on the individual tracks. In some moments I find the album perhaps too wordy, but take my comment with a grain of salt. The album should be listened to in one piece, quietly and with full concentration. Only then will the individual passages and shades stand out. In short, the playing here is technical, dissonant, fierce, heavy and surprising. Each song is an opus in its own right, a dark and cool symphony. But the record holds together as a whole as well, compact and addictive. It's true that I have to be in the mood for a record like this, but when the mood strikes, I like to choose "Mondestrunken". It's as if this music isn't even from our world, but from somewhere in the universe, influenced by civilizations that are technically and mentally better off than our species. EVILYN presented themselves in a very good form and recorded an album that is definitely worth your attention. Now please leave me alone, I have to go back to tasting. Avant-garde, technical, dissonant death metal from other realms!
