Nikdy si nevěděl, kdy přijde. Občas se se objevil ve stínu, někdy se vkradl do tvých snů. Tvoje kůže měla barvu sněhu a z krví ti tekla krev. Lidé o tobě říkali, že si prokletý. Pomalu si přestával mluvit. Občas tě našli se žiletkou v ruce, jak sedíš na vaně. Někdy ses díval do zrcadla a viděl si zrůdu. Vypadaly ti postupně všechny vlasy a rozpadal ses v prach. Hnil si zaživa. Rozmlouval si se svým vlastním démonem. A poslouchal si u toho novou desku holandských black death metalistů CODEX MORTIS.

Kapela letos přichází se svým druhým dlouhohrajícím albem. Je po okraj narvané chladem, nahrubo nasekanou tmou a šílenstvím démonů. Budete se při poslechu procházet temnými chodbami podzemí, překročíte řeku Styx a skladby se vám jako nějaký zákeřný jed dostanou pomalu do krve. Alespoň v mém případě to platilo. Jsem prokletý!

Album jsem poslouchal již nějaký čas a stalo se mojí součástí. Obdivoval jsem syrový a chladný zvuk (Ronnie Björnström), s chutí jsem se díval na motiv na obalu. Skvělé a velmi zajímavé jsou i texty, které vám opravdu doporučuji prostudovat. Jedná se převážně o historická témata. Zkrátka a jednoduše, pánové i letos odvedli skvělé řemeslo. To by ale nejen v dnešní době bylo málo. CODEX MORTIS vzali klasické black death metalové postupy z devadesátých let minulého století (vliv DISSECTION je opravdu znatelný) a přidali velkou spoustu vlastních nápadů a invence. Novinka nejen že je skvělá po formální stránce, ale hlavně se opravdu dobře poslouchá. Rád a často jsem se zavíral ve svém pokoji. Otevřel jsem si pokaždé okno a díval se na usínající město. Nechával jsem si vyprávět příběhy o starých časech a s hlavou u reproduktoru se kýval spokojeně do rytmu. Holanďané umí napsat dobrý motiv. Pohrávají si s černou atmosférou jako šelma se svojí obětí. Navíc, a to také oceňuji, v sobě obsahují skladby velké množství energie, nahrubo nasekané tmy a mrazu. Nelze jinak, než doporučit všem, kteří nejen že mají rádi tento styl, ale zároveň u hudby přemýšlejí. Některé motivy vylezou na povrch až po nějaké době. Vlastně by se dalo také napsat, že pánové nahráli syrový opus z onoho světa, symfonii bolesti, smrti a temnoty. Nikdy jsem nevěděl, kdy přijde. Občas se objevil ve stínu, někdy se vkradl do mých snů. Někdy jsem se díval do zrcadla a viděl zrůdu. Černou krví nasáklý black death metal, u kterého potkáte ty nejděsivější démony! Zlo přichází ze stínu!

The band is releasing their second full-length album this year. It's packed to the brim with cold, coarsely chopped darkness and the madness of demons. You'll be walking through dark underground corridors, crossing the River Styx as you listen, and the songs will slowly get into your blood like some insidious poison. At least in my case it did. I'm cursed!

I've been listening to the album for some time now and it has become a part of me. I admired the raw and cool sound (Ronnie Björnström), I looked with relish at the motif on the cover. The lyrics are also great and very interesting, which I really recommend you to study. These are mostly historical topics. In short, the gentlemen have done a great job again this year. But that would not be enough in this day and age. CODEX MORTIS took classic black death metal techniques from the 90s (the influence of DISSECTION is really noticeable) and added a great deal of their own ideas and inventiveness. The new album is not only great formally, but most importantly it is really good to listen to. I liked and often shut myself in my room. I opened the window each time and looked out at the city falling asleep. I would let the stories of the old days come to me, my head bobbing contentedly to the beat with my head by the speaker. The Dutch know how to write a good theme. They toy with the black atmosphere like a beast with its prey. Moreover, and I appreciate this too, the songs contain a great deal of energy, rough-hewn darkness and chill. I can't help but recommend them to anyone who not only likes this style, but also thinks with their music. Some of the themes come out after a while. In fact, one could also write that the gentlemen have recorded a raw opus from the other world, a symphony of pain, death and darkness. I never knew when it would come.
