Někdy se staneš můrou poletující kolem světla. Padáš k zemi se spálenými křídly. Brodíš se po kolena v bažině svých vlastních myšlenek. Budíš se z děsivých snů. Země je spálená a zbyli tu jen démoni. Někdy je těžké zůstat stát na nohou, někdy je obtížné zůstat rovný. Zrozeni v pláči čekáme na smrt. Nakonec zůstaneme sami. Se svými činy i myšlenkami, se svým svědomím. A kolem nás všechno utíká s obrovskou rychlostí. Koloběh, který nelze zastavit.

A potom je tu hudba, při které vše funguje podle zcela jiných zákonů. Když poslouchám nahrávky, jako je ta letošní od pohrobků GÖDEN, pro mě kdysi velmi zásadních WINTER, jsem najednou velmi silný, jsem jako nádoba, která si uvědomuje, že jsou konečně všechny části na svých místech. Druhé dlouhohrající album "Vale of the Fallen" se pro mě stalo opět osobním, niterným zážitkem. Za okny padal černý déšť a svět pomalu umíral. Seděl jsem ve svém křesle a četl si. Existoval jsem jenom já a hudba. A můra, která spadla spálená na zem.

Stephen Flam má natolik osobitý styl, rukopis a talent, že si jeho práci s nikým nespletete. Jedná se o druhé album, volné pokračování WINTER. Je pro mě velmi zajímavé, nechat se unášet na zpěněných vlnách melodií. Jsme pravděpodobně s tímto skladatelem naladěni stejným způsobem (dole pod článkem je odkazován i náš společný rozhovor). Základem nových skladeb je opět doom a death metal, který je syrový a masivní. Jsou tu ale i různé mezihry, ruchy, epické vsuvky, které mě také dokáží rozdrásat do krve. Strašidelný, naléhavý a mocný vokál Vas Kallas, až hororové klávesy Tonyho Pinnisiho, drtivé bubnování Jasona Frantze a v neposlední řadě jedovaté housle Margaret Murphy. Tohle všechno zabalené v pavučinách, které nejde roztrhnout. Jsou pevné, kompaktní. Jako celek vás ihned strhnou, zničí a polijí ledovou vodou. Chtěl bych být básníkem temnoty, abych dokázal slovy novou desku lépe popsat, abych dovedl do slov promítnout všechnu tu energii, tlak, smutek, majestátní bolest, všechny ty myšlenky, které létají kolem. "Vale of the Fallen" je nejen povinností pro všechny věrné fanoušky, ale i pro všechny, kteří mají rádi hudbu jako takovou. V kapele se sešli muzikanti, mezi kterými funguje chemie. Nevím, jestli jsou pod přísnou taktovkou šéfa celého souboru, ale podepíšu vám vlastní krví, že všichni dohromady letos vytvořili desku, ke které se budu rád a stále vracet. Možná kolem nás planeta pomalu umírá, možná ničíme sami sebe, ale já vím, že všechno tohle přežiju. Nové album má v sobě totiž něco, co mi dává naději, sílu, dokáže mi vrátit tep mého srdce do klidného normálu. Nad podobnými nahrávkami se mi chce filozofovat, přemýšlet, diskutovat s ostatními. A zároveň se zavřít do pokoje a být sám. Shořet jako můra, která se dotkne plamenů. Chladný, temný doom death metalový opus, který se vám dostane do podvědomí! Pochmurná symfonie! Budete kráčet po spálené zemi!

Sometimes you become a moth flying around the light. You fall to the ground with burnt wings. You wade knee-deep in the swamp of your own thoughts. You wake up from terrifying dreams. The earth is scorched and only demons remain. Sometimes it's hard to stay on your feet, sometimes it's hard to stay upright. Born in tears, we wait for death. In the end, we are left alone. With our actions and thoughts, with our conscience. And everything around us is running away at a tremendous speed. A cycle that cannot be stopped.

And then there's music, where everything works according to completely different laws. When I listen to records like this year's from the late GÖDEN, once very fundamental for me WINTER, I am suddenly very strong, like a vessel that realizes that all the parts are finally in place. The second full-length album "Vale of the Fallen" has again become a personal, visceral experience for me. Black rain was falling outside the windows and the world was slowly dying. I sat in my armchair and read. There was only me and the music. And a moth that fell burnt to the ground.

Stephen Flam has such a distinctive style, handwriting and talent that his work is unmistakable. This is the second album, a loose continuation of WINTER. I find it very interesting to let myself drift on the foamy waves of melodies. We are probably in tune with this composer in the same way (our interview together is linked below the article). The basis of the new tracks is again doom and death metal, which is raw and massive. But there are also various interludes, movements, epic insertions that can also tear my blood. The haunting, urgent and powerful vocals of Vas Kallas, the almost horror-like keyboards of Tony Pinnisi, the crushing drumming of Jason Frantz and last but not least the venomous violin of Margaret Murphy. All this wrapped in a web that cannot be broken. They're tight, compact. As a whole, they'll immediately tear you down, destroy you and pour ice water over you. I wish I was a poet of darkness, that I could describe the new record better with words, that I could put into words all the energy, the pressure, the sadness, the majestic pain, all the thoughts that fly around. "Vale of the Fallen" is not only a must for all loyal fans, but also for all those who love music in general. The band has brought together musicians with a chemistry that works. I don't know if they're under the strict baton of a full band leader, but I'll sign you with my own blood that they all came together this year to create a record that I'll gladly keep coming back to. The planet may be slowly dying around us, we may be destroying ourselves, but I know I will survive all of this. Because the new album has something in it that gives me hope, strength, can bring my heartbeat back to a calm normalcy. Records like this make me want to philosophize, think, discuss with others. And at the same time to close myself in a room and be alone. To burn like a moth that touches the flames. A cold, dark doom death metal opus that gets into your subconscious! A gloomy symphony! You will walk on scorched earth!
