Když mi bylo šestnáct let, tak jsme se neustále s kamarády hádali, která kapela má nejlepší logo. Překreslovali jsme si je do školních sešitů. Když jsem jednom na burze objevil kazetu "Socialized Hate" s logem ATROPHY, byl jsem nadšený. Pamatuji si, že jsem přišel domů, sundal igelitový obal a potom jsem seděl několik hodin u přehrávače a obracel stranu A a B. Moc jsem nerozuměl anglicky, ale machroval jsem se songem Beer Bong. Když před nějakým časem proběhla éterem informace, že se tahle smečka vrací na scénu, těšil jsem se a měl strach zároveň.
Z původní sestavy totiž zbyl jenom zpěvák Brian Zimmerman, jinak nikdo. Nesl jsem si domů nové album "Asylum" a byl hodně zvědavý. Už dávno mi není šestnáct, ale napětí cítím stále. Thrash metal, ten starý, ostrý a plesnivý, je totiž i mým životem. Zapínám play a musím si sednout, protože je to až neuvěřitelné. Kapela, i když ve zcela jiné sestavě, zní úplně stejně jako kdysi. Tohle je tsunami, tohle je smršť. Zdravá naštvanost, síla a energie. A samozřejmě stále skvělý vokál mistra Briana Zimmermana.
Novou desku tak lze zařadit mezi další, velmi povedené návraty starých legend (zmiňme třeba RAZOR z Kanady, VIO-LENCE, EVIL DEAD, DARKNESS, nebo mé oblíbence MORBID SAINT a vždy skvělé OVERKILL). Je v tom samozřejmě velký kus nostalgie, ale ATROPHY se opravdu povedlo nejen vrátit moje myšlenky do osmdesátých a devadesátých let, ale zároveň mi nakopat prdel. V nové desce je stále takový ten nakumulovaný vztek, rebelství, frustrace. Mám neodbytné nutkání mlátit hlavou o zeď, rozdrtit nějaké kosti. Je v tom i kus šílenství, já vím, ale když mě baví novou desku poslouchat. Vše ostatní jde stranou, ATROPHY vydali nové album! Jsem rád, že se pánové nevydali jinou cestou, že svůj styl zakonzervovali, opatřili parádním staroškolským zvukem. Všemu potom vévodí jedovatý hlas a samozřejmě riffy ostré jako čepele skalpelů. Myslím si ale, že novinka není jenom záležitostí pro pamětníky. Mohla by oslovit i všechny současné mladé posluchače, kteří mají tenhle styl rádi. Jedná se pro mě nejen o srdcovou záležitost, ale také o hudbu, kterou o hodně raději poslouchám, než abych o ní psal. Mám totiž velký respekt k legendám, které nejen že mají velký talent, ale zároveň působí svěže a uvěřitelně. Mám hroznou chuť na pivo a tak si dělám hezké večery. Zavřu se ve svém pokoji, pouštím si staré desky a je mi jedno, že kolem nás je divný, šílený svět. "Asylum" je albem, které má už teď čestné místo v mé soukromé diskografii. Je to otisk dávných časů, ale také ryzí a opravdový metal. Je mi skoro padesát a většina mých kamarádů už dávno nežije. Často na ně vzpomínám. Myslím si, že by se jim tahle deska hodně líbila. Koneckonců, to logo pořád patří mezi nejlepší. Alespoň pro mě. Dokonalá esence starodávného thrash metalu, návrat ve velkém stylu! Tahle smečka vás roztrhá na kusy! Pokloňte se!

When I was sixteen years old, my friends and I used to argue all the time about which band had the best logo. We'd redraw them in our school notebooks. When I found a tape of "Socialized Hate" with the ATROPHY logo on it at a stock exchange, I was thrilled. I remember coming home, taking off the plastic wrapper, and then sitting at the record player for hours, flipping sides A and B. I didn't understand much English, but I waved the song Beer Bong. When the information that this pack was coming back to the scene came through the ether some time ago, I was excited and scared at the same time.
Only singer Brian Zimmerman was left from the original line-up, otherwise nobody. I brought home the new album "Asylum" and was very curious. I'm not 16 anymore, but I still feel the excitement. Thrash metal, the old, edgy, moldy kind, is my life. I put it on and I have to sit down because it's unbelievable. The band, although with a completely different line-up, sounds exactly the same as it used to. This is a tsunami, this is a whirlwind. Healthy anger, power and energy. And, of course, the still great vocals of the master Brian Zimmerman.
The new album can thus be classified among other, very successful returns of old legends (let's mention RAZOR from Canada, VIO-LENCE, EVIL DEAD, DARKNESS, or my favourites MORBID SAINT and the always great OVERKILL). There's a big piece of nostalgia in it, of course, but ATROPHY really managed to not only bring my thoughts back to the 80s and 90s, but kick my ass at the same time. There's still that accumulated anger, rebelliousness, frustration in the new record. I have an insistent urge to bang my head against the wall, to crush some bones. There's a bit of madness in it, I know, but when I enjoy listening to a new record. Everything else aside, ATROPHY have released a new album! I'm glad that the gentlemen didn't take a different path, that they preserved their style, provided with a cool old school sound. Everything is then dominated by a venomous voice and of course riffs as sharp as scalpel blades. But I think that the novelty is not just a matter for memoirists. It could also appeal to all the young listeners of today who like this style. It is not only a matter of the heart for me, but also music that I much prefer to listen to rather than write about. In fact, I have a lot of respect for legends who not only have great talent but also come across as fresh and believable. I have a terrible appetite for beer, so I make for a nice evening. I'll lock myself in my room, put on old records and I don't care that there's a weird, crazy world around us. "Asylum" is an album that already has pride of place in my private discography. It's an imprint of the old days, but it's also pure and true metal. I'm almost 50 and most of my friends are dead. I think of them often. I think they'd like this record a lot. After all, the logo is still one of the best. At least for me. The perfect essence of old-time thrash metal, back in style! This pack will tear you apart! Take a bow!
