Někdy si připadám jako svůj vlastní stín. Dívám se na sebe, jak ráno vstávám, jak jdu do práce, jak odpočívám, jak vykonávám nekonečnou řadu úkonů. Jaký je ale smysl toho všeho? Kam směřuji? Asi jako každý se věkem měním, získávám zkušenosti. V hudbě to platí o to víc. Dříve bych kapely jako DIABYS jen tak přešel bez povšimnutí. Jenže mě na ně upozornil jeden kamarád z druhé strany zeměkoule. Prý je to pro něj album minulého roku. Netušil jsem, neznal jsem. Přesvědčila mě až jména v bookletu a první poslech.
Zpěvák Max Phelps je sám o sobě zárukou kvality. Potvrdil to v DEFEATED SANITY, CYNIC a samozřejmě DEATH DTA. Ten se spojil s neméně zkušenými muzikanty a poměrně nenápadně nahráli desku, která rozhodně stojí za pozornost. Vše potom složil Michael Dorosz. Jedná se o propracovaný, velmi pestrý a dobře složený death metal se spoustou technických a progresivních prvků. A to vše s rodokmenem DEATH.
Při poslechu debutového alba "Portals of Annihilation" najednou nejsem svým vlastním stínem, ale mám syrový pocit, že opravdu žiju. Hudba je to velmi naléhavá, neklidná, s takovým tím tajemným odérem, jestli mi rozumíte. O mastering se postaral Johannes Grossman a nutno rovnou dodat, že odvedl perfektní práci. Zvuk je čitelný a živelný zároveň. Masivní a surový. Mám to takhle rád. Jsem stará škola a líbí se mi, že tahle smečka sice staví na tradičních, klasických základech, ale ty postupně rozvíjí, doplňuje a zároveň si zachovává svůj vlastní ksicht. Na poslech jsem se vždy musel pozorně soustředit. Nikdy jsem nemohl desku poslouchat jen jako kulisu. Vždy mě nakonec pohltila a nenechala ani chvilku v klidu. Představoval jsem si nějakou pradávnou příšeru, bestii, která spala dlouhé roky v jeskyni. Za zvuků této nahrávky se probudila a přišla nás roztrhat na kusy. Možná není ani z tohoto světa. Skladby v sobě mají velký drive a sílu, takovou tu nahrubo nasekanou energii, která se dle mého nedá naučit. Musíte ji mít v sobě, musíte věřit tomu, co hrajete. A tohle všechno DIABYS umí na sto procent. Sypu si popel na hlavu, že jsem se ke skupině dostal až teď, album totiž vyšlo již v dubnu minulého roku. Myslím si, že to ale nakonec vůbec nevadí. Důležité je, že mě baví "Portals of Annihilation" poslouchat, že se k němu rád vracím. Tohle je záležitost pro všechny hudební gurmány. Doporučuji podávat v noci, chladu a nejlépe několik metrů pod zemí. Nezbývá mi nic jiného, než vám desku doporučit. Tohle album vám rozdrásá obličej do krve, zničí vás a vy za to budete moc rádi. Progresivní, technický death metal, který ctí pradávné kořeny a stane se vaším vlastním stínem!

Sometimes I feel like my own shadow. I look at myself as I get up in the morning, as I go to work, as I rest, as I perform an endless series of tasks. But what's the point of it all? Where am I going? I guess like everyone, I'm changing with age, gaining experience. In music, this is even more true. In the past, bands like DIABYS would just pass by unnoticed. But a friend of mine from the other side of the world pointed them out to me. He said it was the album of the year for him. I had no idea, I didn't know. I was only convinced by the names in the booklet and the first listen.
Singer Max Phelps is a guarantee of quality in his own right. He confirmed it in DEFEATED SANITY, CYNIC and of course DEATH DTA. He teamed up with equally experienced musicians and rather unobtrusively they recorded that is definitely worth your attention. Everything was then composed by Michael Dorosz. It is a sophisticated, very varied and well composed death metal with a lot of technical and progressive elements. And all this with the DEATH pedigree.
Listening to the debut album "Portals of Annihilation" I'm suddenly not my own shadow, but I have the raw feeling that I'm really alive. The music is very urgent, restless, with that mysterious air, if you know what I mean. The mastering was done by Johannes Grossman and I have to say that he did a perfect job. The sound is clear and lively at the same time. Massive and raw. I like it that way. I'm old school and I like the fact that this pack builds on traditional, classic foundations, but gradually develops them, adds to them and at the same time keeps its own face. I've always had to listen intently to listen. I could never listen to a record just as a backdrop. It always absorbed me in the end and didn't let me rest for a moment. I imagined some ancient monster, a beast that slept for years in a cave. It woke up to the sound of this recording and came to tear us apart. He may not even be of this world. The songs have a great drive and power in them, a kind of rough-hewn energy that I don't think can be taught. You have to have it in you, you have to believe in what you're playing. And that's what DIABYS can do 100%. I'm kicking myself that I've only just joined the band, because the album was released last April. But I think it doesn't matter in the end. The important thing is that I enjoy listening to "Portals of Annihilation" and I like coming back to it. This is a matter for all music gourmets. I recommend serving it at night, cold and preferably several feet underground. I have no choice but to recommend the album to you. This album will rip your face to shreds, it will destroy you and you will be so glad you did. Progressive, technical death metal that honors its ancient roots and becomes your own shadow!
