Zlo bývá někdy ukryté hluboko pod povrchem. Zdánlivě spí a krmí se nenávistí. Některé jedince prozradí oči, jiní občas vybuchnou. Někdy to bývá otázka příležitosti. Tichá ulice v černé noci. Rituály plné smrti a utrpení. My, staří fanoušci extrémního metalu moc dobře víme, že existují horší věci, než umírání. Po deseti letech se vrátila kapela, kterou sleduji celou dobu jejich existence. Němečtí DROWNED vždy přesně věděli, o čem je zlo a utrpení. I letos potvrzují, že dokáží do své hudbu promítnout chladnou, zákeřnou temnotu.

Důkazem budiž jejich nové album "Procul His", které je po okraj narvané prudkým jedem, špínou a hnisem. Připomíná kdysi dávno nedoléčenou ránu, která se po letech znovu zanítila. Tepe v ní zkažená krev a když nakonec praskne, tak se z ní vyhrne prvotřídní smrtící kov s příměsí doomových nálad. Zlo, které dlouhé roky spalo ukryté hluboko v podzemí, se opět probudilo.

Jediným původním členem kapely, která vznikla v roce 1992, je kytarista Tlmnn. Jeho rukopis je pro DROWNED zásadní. Když totiž posloucháte pečlivě, dostanete se do pradávné jeskyně, ve které spí bestie. Za zvuků téhle desky se probudí a sežere vás zaživa. Alespoň tak vnímám album já. U takto starých smeček nemám rád přirovnání k ostatním, podle mě se to příliš nesluší. Přesto, pro představu. Pokud máte rádi INCANTATION, NECROS CHRISTOS, GRAVE MIASMA, LVCFYRE, DEAD CONGREGATION a další podobné tmáře, mohla by se vám líbit i nová nahrávka těchto prokletých démonů. Určitě oceníte perfektní zvuk, který se vám zadře pod kůži. Jsou to ale hlavní motivy, jednotlivé riffy, zničující bicí i chorobný vokál, které dohromady vytvářejí absolutně nihilistickou atmosféru. Zlo v podání Němců je opravdu plazivé, slizké, nechutné a nepříjemné. V určitých momentech může dojít i k návykovým, halucinačním jevům. Deska působí jako nějaké zvláštní, neklidné zaříkávání, které není z tohoto světa. Pánové se museli vydat nahrávat hluboko pod zem, možná i na druhou stranu, za řeku Styx. Songy jsou totiž velmi propracované, pestré, zahalené do šedého pláště z pavučin. Garantuji vám, že pokud máte bohatou fantazii, tak budete během poslechu "Procul His" ve zcela jiných dimenzích. Dívám se do tmy a mrazí mě v zádech. Ze stínů vystupují přízraky bez tváře. Podávají mi ruku, mluví beze slov, jejich dotyky mě pálí a chladí zároveň, stejně jako nové album. Umírám a znovu se rodím. Jsem navěky prokletý. Zlo bývá někdy ukryté hluboko pod povrchem. Zdánlivě spí a krmí se nenávistí. Starodávný, temný death metalový rituál nasáklý hnisem a hnilobou! Zlá mantra z onoho světa!

Evil is sometimes hidden deep beneath the surface. Seemingly asleep and feeding on hatred. Some individuals are betrayed by their eyes, others occasionally explode. Sometimes it's a matter of opportunity. A quiet street on a black night. Rituals full of death and suffering. We old extreme metal fans know all too well that there are worse things than dying. Ten years on, the band I've been following for their entire existence has returned. Germany's DROWNED have always known exactly what evil and suffering is all about. This year they also confirm that they can project a cold, insidious darkness into their music.

The proof is their new album "Procul His", which is packed to the brim with violent venom, filth and pus. It's reminiscent of a wound once long ago that went unhealed, only to re-inflame years later. Corrupted blood flows in it, and when it finally bursts, it spews out top-notch death metal with a dash of doom. The evil that has been sleeping deep underground for years has awakened again.

The only original member of the band, which was formed in 1992, is guitarist Tlmnn. His signature is essential to DROWNED. For if you listen carefully, you will be transported to an ancient cave where the beast sleeps. It wakes up to the sound of this record and eats you alive. At least that's how I perceive the album. I don't like comparisons to other old packs like this, it doesn't really fit in my opinion. Still, to give you an idea. If you like INCANTATION, NECROS CHRISTOS, GRAVE MIASMA, LVCFYRE, DEAD CONGREGATION and other such obscurantists, you might also like the new record of these cursed demons. You will appreciate the perfect sound that gets under your skin. But it's the main motifs, the individual riffs, the devastating drums and the morbid vocals that combine to create an absolutely nihilistic atmosphere. The evil as performed by the Germans is truly creepy, slimy, disgusting and unpleasant. At certain moments it can even become addictive, hallucinatory. The record comes across as some strange, restless incantation that is not of this world. The gentlemen must have gone deep underground to record, maybe even to the other side, beyond the River Styx. The songs are in fact very elaborate, colourful, wrapped in a grey cloak of cobwebs. I guarantee that if you have a rich imagination, you will be in a completely different dimension while listening to "Procul His". I look into the darkness and I get chills. From the shadows, faceless phantoms emerge. They shake my hand, they speak without words, their touches burn and chill me at the same time, just like the new album. I'm dying and being born again.
