Jakoby i počasí vědělo, že vychází nové album švédských doom death metalistů OCTOBER TIDE. Pršelo a bylo chladno. Z okolních stromů spadlo pár prvních listů. Musel jsem ven, daleko od lidí. Sychravo, smutek, deprese, ale také klid a rozjímání. Mám to takhle nastaveno celý svůj metalový život. Na tenhle styl musím mít náladu a čas. Dnešní doba je možná až příliš povrchní a rychlá. Falešné úsměvy, tváře bez emocí. Švédi na to jdou úplně jinak.

Novinku je nutné poslouchat jako každé jejich nové album. Nejlépe v chladu a šeru, v temném pokoji nebo v opuštěném lese. Teprve potom vyniknou jednotlivé nuance a motivy. Přiznám se bez mučení, mám moc rád jejich rukopis, jejich styl i nálady, které ve mě pokaždé probouzí. Letošní deska není výjimkou. Je smutná, záhadná, přesvědčivá a zároveň dává naději. Určitě to znáte, zmizíte do lesa brzy ráno, když je ještě tma. První záblesk slunce nad mýtinou jasně vyjadřuje to, co se odehrává i zde, na albu, které mi ihned proniklo do žil.

Psát o doom metalu je hodně těžká disciplína. Vždy mám v sobě pokoru a neodbytný pocit, že slova nestačí. Určitě je lepší poslouchat, vnímat, nechat se unášet na krvavých vlnách melodií. Už dávno vím své, jako starý fanoušek si vždy udělám názor sám. Netřeba dlouhého vysvětlování. Raději zmizím, uzavřu se před světem a jen si užívám jednotlivé motivy. Dívám se do tmy, našlapuji opatrně, těším se na další koncerty. Jsem plně oddán smutku i šedivým mrakům, ze kterých prší ledový déšť. Kapelu lze stále zařadit po bok takových smeček jako jsou KATATONIA, OPETH, NOVEMBERS DOOM, RAPTURE (Finsko), DIMMU BORGIR, DARK TRANQUILLITY. OCTOBER TIDE mají svůj vlastní originální rukopis, ihned je poznáte. Letos mi připadá novinka syrovější, melodičtější, vznešenější. Nemá cenu diskutovat o zvuku, ani motivu na obalu. Pánové jsou velmi zkušení muzikanti a jejich kořeny sahají až do devadesátých let minulého století. Vše je v nejlepším pořádku a vy se můžete soustředit na to nejdůležitější. Na hudbu. Čím jsem starší, tím častěji mívám pocit, že se musím zastavit. Ohlížím se zpět, vzpomínám na své kamarády, kteří již nejsou mezi námi. Vydávám se na dlouhé toulky a dívám se skrz mlhu. V těchto chvílích mi bylo a je nové album "The Cancer Pledge" velmi dobrým průvodcem. Přestavte si časem ohlodanou sochu na opuštěném hřbitově. Tajemnou kobku, která po mnoha letech vydá své svědectví. Sem, mezi náhrobky, hned vedle márnice, tahle deska patří a zde vynikne její síla nejvíce. Už asi navěky budu mít novou nahrávku spojenou s podzimem, s počasím, se splínem. A je to tak dobře, protože v tom je největší síla téhle kapely. Navodit pochmurnou atmosféru, zastavit čas. Vyjádřit pomocí muziky depresivní stavy. Tajemná, syrová, vznešená doom death metalová výpověď o smutku, zármutku a beznaději! K dokonalosti vybroušený křišťál!

As if even the weather knew, the new album of Swedish doom death metallers OCTOBER TIDE is coming out. It was raining and cold. The first few leaves fell from the surrounding trees. I had to go outside, away from people. Cold, sad, depressed, but also calm and contemplative. I've had it set up like this my whole metal life. I have to be in the mood and have time for this style. Today's time is maybe too superficial and fast. Fake smiles, emotionless faces. Swedes have a completely different approach.

The new album is a must listen like any new album. Preferably in the cold and dark, in a dark room or in a deserted forest. Only then will the individual nuances and motifs stand out. I admit without torture, I love their handwriting, their style and the moods they awaken in me every time. This year's album is no exception. It's sad, mysterious, compelling and hopeful at the same time. I'm sure you know it, disappearing into the woods early in the morning when it's still dark. The first glimpse of the sun over the clearing clearly conveys what is happening here, on an album that immediately got into my veins.

Writing about doom metal is a very difficult discipline. I always have humility and an insistent feeling that words are not enough. Surely it's better to listen, to feel, to be carried away on the bloody waves of melodies. I already know my stuff, as an old fan I always make up my own mind. No need for a long explanation. I prefer to disappear, close myself off from the world and just enjoy the individual motifs. I look into the darkness, treading carefully, looking forward to the next concerts. I'm fully committed to the sadness and the grey clouds that rain icy rain. The band can still be placed alongside such packs as KATATONIA, OPETH, NOVEMBERS DOOM, RAPTURE (Finland), DIMMU BORGIR, DARK TRANQUILLITY. OCTOBER TIDE have their own original handwriting, you will recognize them immediately. This year I find the new stuff more raw, more melodic, more sublime. There is no point in discussing the sound or the motif on the cover. The gentlemen are very experienced musicians and their roots go back to the 1990s. Everything is in perfect order and you can concentrate on what is most important. The music. The older I get, the more often I feel like I have to stop. I look back, I remember my friends who are no longer with us. I take long walks and look through the fog. In these moments, the new album "The Cancer Pledge" was and is a very good guide for me. Imagine a statue gnawed by time in an abandoned cemetery. A mysterious dungeon that will give its testimony many years later. Here, among the tombstones, next to the morgue, this plaque belongs and here its power shines through the most. I'll probably always have a new record associated with autumn, with the weather, with sleep. And it's just as well, because that's the greatest strength of this band. To create a somber atmosphere, to stop time. To express depressive states through music. A mysterious, raw, sublime doom death metal statement about sadness, grief and hopelessness! A crystal cut to perfection!
