Kdysi dávno, v roce 2017 mi jedna moje kamarádka přinesla album kapely, kterou jsem vůbec neznal. Poslechl jsem si tenkrát jejich novinku "Primordial Malignity" a chvilku jen tak kýval hlavou. Nic moc mi hudba TOMB MOLD neříkala. Jenže mě pořád něco nutilo se vracet. Bylo to tenkrát nakonec jako prokletí. Začal jsem tuhle smečku sledovat, hltat každé jejich nové album a dokonce se nám povedl pěkný rozhovor (odkazy na články naleznete dole pod dnešní recenzí). Čas ubíhal a pánové se pomalu vyvíjeli.
Pokaždé, když se mi dostane do ruky nějaká jejich nová deska, je to pro mě obřad. Sednu si, zhasnu všechna světla a nechám na sebe album působit. Novinka "The Enduring Spirit" mi hned od začátku připomínala koktejl, kterého když se napijete poprvé, tak se ošklíbáte. Časem vám ale pronikne do krve a začnete se usmívat. Kombinace starých, tradičních postupů, moderny i progrese, to vše zamíchat a netřepat, zkrátka funguje. Tohle umí málokdo a je pro to potřeba velká porce talentu. A ten tahle smečka rozhodně má. To vám podepíšu vlastní krví.
Jsem převážně zavřený ve starých plesnivých kobkách a čím jsem starší, nechce se mi vůbec vylézat ven. Tentokrát ale udělám rád výjimku. Odkazy na DEATH, CYNIC, ATHEIST, GORGUTS, ale klidně i progresi, jazz. Na mě to funguje a nemám žádných připomínek. Kapela totiž i komplikovanější pasáže hraje tak nějak samozřejmě, s nadhledem a lehce. Nezbývá mi nic jiného, než si podupávat nohou, kývat se do rytmu a nechat na sebe tenhle magicky podmanivý mix působit. Jsem zase jednou tulákem po hvězdách, moje fantazie pracuje na plné obrátky. Já vím, asi to nebude album pro každého, neznám víc konzervativní posluchače než metalisty, ale přesto - jde hlavně o hudbu, o chvění, o tlak a energii. O to, nechat se jen tak unášet, vnímat vibrace. Víte co mě napadá nejčastěji? Vzpomínám na koncerty klasické vážné hudby, kdy jsem jen tak seděl, měl zavřené oči a usmíval se. Ze skladeb zde tryskají velmi podobné emoce. TOMB MOLD mají samozřejmě ostrý a křišťálově čistý zvuk (Sean Pearson - recording, Arthur Rizk - mixing, mastering). Povedl se i obal (Jesse Jacobi), který krásně vše doplňuje. Nahrávka je svým způsobem velmi neklidná, jiná, mnohdy těžko uchopitelná. Zároveň se velmi dobře poslouchá. Jen musíte na tuhle hru přistoupit. Přiznám se bez mučení, "The Enduring Spirit" se stalo na dlouhou dobu mým nejposlouchanějším albem za poslední měsíce. A ještě dlouho jím bude. V tomhle případě jsou totiž jakákoliv slova zbytečná, tady k vám promlouvá hudba. K dokonalosti vybroušený death metalový křišťál! Esence těkavých emocí z jiných světů!

A long time ago, in 2017, a friend of mine brought me an album by a band I didn't know at all. I listened to their new album "Primordial Malignity" and just nodded my head for a while. Nothing much about TOMB MOLD's music appealed to me. Something kept me coming back. It was like a curse back then. I started to follow this pack, devouring every new album and we even had a nice interview (links to the articles can be found below today's review). Time passed and the gentlemen slowly evolved.
Every time I get my hands on one of their new records, it's a rite of passage for me. I sit down, turn off all the lights and let the album affect me. The new album "The Enduring Spirit" reminded me right from the start of that cocktail that makes you wince when you first take a sip. But eventually it gets into your blood and you start to smile. The combination of old, traditional methods, modernity and progression, all mixed up and not shaken, simply works. Not many people can do this and it takes a great deal of talent to do it. And this bunch definitely has it. I'll sign that with my own blood.
I'm mostly locked in old moldy dungeons and the older I get, I don't want to come out at all. But I'm happy to make an exception this time. The band plays even the more complicated passages somehow naturally, with an attitude and lightness. I have no choice but to stomp my feet, sway to the rhythm and let this magically captivating mix work its magic on me. I'm once again a star wanderer, my imagination working at full speed. I know, it probably won't be an album for everyone, I don't know more conservative listeners than metalheads, but still - it's all about the music, about the vibe, the pressure and the energy. It's about just letting yourself go, feeling the vibrations. You know what comes to mind most often? I remember classical classical music concerts when I would just sit there with my eyes closed and smile. The songs here ooze very similar emotions. TOMB MOLD have of course a crisp and crystal clear sound (Sean Pearson - recording, Arthur Rizk - mixing, mastering). The cover artwork (Jesse Jacobi) is also very good, and complements everything beautifully. The recording is in a way very restless, different, often hard to grasp. At the same time it is very easy to listen to. You just have to accept this game. I admit without torture, "The Enduring Spirit" has become for a long time my most listened album in the last months. And it will be for a long time to come. Because in this case any words are useless, it's the music that speaks to you. Death metal crystal polished to perfection! The essence of volatile emotions from other worlds!
