Bylo hrozné dopředu vědět, že některý ze stínů se jednou stane tvým vrahem. Vstával si každý den do práce a přemýšlel, kdy nastane čas. Kdy konečně přejdu na druhou stranu? Dnes jsem si byl absolutně jistý. Do sluchátek mi hrálo nové EP démonů temnoty HEADS FOR THE DEAD. Našlapoval jsem tiše, ve špinavé ulici, lekal jsem se každého pohybu. Jenže nic, vůbec nic. Nakonec mi prořízli hrdlo ve chvíli, kdy jsem to nejméně čekal. Za bílého dne. Moje krev vytekla na podlahu a já s údivem sledoval, jak se pode mnou tvoří kaluž.
Je vám doufám jasné, že pro tvorbu téhle smečky se musíte vždy náležitě naladit. Já to třeba dělám tak, že si dám nejdříve nějaký dobrý horor a potom až poslouchám jejich hudbu. Tenhle postup se mi velmi osvědčil. Pokud jste fanoušci tajemna, starodávných rituálů a bolestivé, kruté smrti, tak neváhejte ani chvilku.
Pětice skladeb ostrých jako čerstvě nabroušený skalpel. Spousta zajímavých momentů, těžká a zachmuřená atmosféra. Skladby v sobě opět mají takový zvláštní doomový odér, plesnivou patinu, kterou lze vypozorovat u starých kapel. Opravdoví fanoušci asi ví, o čem píšu. HEADS FOR THE DEAD sleduji od jejich počátků (recenze a rozhovor jsou odkazovány dole pod článkem) a po každé mě fascinuje, jak mě jejich hudba pohltí. Opravdu si pokaždé připadám jako bych byl obětí v nějakém děsivém hororovém filmu. Nebo predátorem? Záleží vždy na úhlu pohledu. Novinka je velmi krvavě pestrá, morbidně záhadná a tajemná. Hrozně mě bavilo objevovat všechny pasáže, momenty. Riffy jsou tentokrát vznešenější, majestátnější. Zvuk masivní, ostrý a chladný zároveň (Jonnym Pettersson) a u obalu jsem hodně dlouho přemýšlel, co by mohl znamenat (autorem je Dedy Badic Artem). Nakonec na mě působí jako děsivá noční můra, starodávná a hladová bestie. Znáte takové ty chvíle, když jde hlavní hrdina ve filmu do sklepa a vy víte, že za rohem číhá vrah? Jde o moment překvapení, o šok, o leknutí. Tak přesně tyhle chvíle mi "In The Absence Of Faith" připomíná nejvíce. Také mlhu v močálech, déšť na hřbitově, cákance krve na zdi, podle kterých poznáte směr řezu. Ve skladbách je obsaženo velké množství energie, chvění, tlaku, takové té těžko definovatelné síly, kterou máme my, staří fanoušci pohřbů do země, tolik rádi. Je to velmi dobře napsaná hudba, která pálí i chladí zároveň. A hlavně! Opravdu mě baví ji poslouchat. To je pro mě stále nejdůležitější věc. U muziky rozhodně. Je šílené dopředu vědět, že některý ze stínů se jednou stane mým vrahem. Hrůzostrašný, chladný a temný, krvelačný death metalový přízrak! Noční můra opět ukázala svoji pravou tvář!

It was terrible to know in advance that one of the shadows would one day be your killer. You woke up every day for work wondering when that time would come. When would I finally cross over to the other side? Today I was absolutely sure. The new EP from demons of darkness HEADS FOR THE DEAD was playing in my headphones. I stepped quietly, in the dirty street, scared of every movement. But nothing, nothing at all. Finally, they cut my throat when I least expected it. In daylight. My blood spilled out onto the floor and I watched in amazement as a pool appeared under me.
I hope you understand that you always have to tune in properly to listen to this band. For example, I do it by having a good horror movie first and then listening to their music. This has worked very well for me. If you're a fan of mystery, ancient rituals and painful, cruel death, don't hesitate a moment.
Five tracks as sharp as a freshly sharpened scalpel. Lots of interesting moments, heavy and gloomy atmosphere. The songs again have that strange doom tinge, a moldy patina that can be noticed in old bands. Real fans probably know what I'm writing about. I've been following HEADS FOR THE DEAD since their early days (review and interview linked at the bottom of the article) and each time I'm fascinated by how their music engulfs me. I really do feel like I'm a victim in a scary horror movie every time. Or a predator? It always depends on your point of view. The new stuff is very bloody colourful, morbidly mysterious and enigmatic. I enjoyed discovering all the passages, the moments. The riffs are more sublime this time, more majestic. The sound is massive, sharp and cold at the same time (Jonny Pettersson) and I spent a lot of time thinking about the cover artwork, wondering what it could mean (by Dedy Badic Artem). In the end it strikes me as a terrifying nightmare, an ancient and hungry beast. You know those moments when the main character in a movie goes to the basement and you know there's a killer lurking around the corner? It's a moment of surprise, of shock, of fright. That's what "In The Absence Of Faith" reminds me of most. Also the fog in the swamps, the rain in the cemetery, the blood spatter on the wall that tells you the direction of the cut. There's a lot of energy, trembling, pressure, that hard-to-define force that we old fans of burial in the ground love so much. It's very well written music that burns and chills at the same time. And most important! I really enjoy listening to it. That's still the most important thing to me. With music, definitely. It's crazy to know ahead of time that one of the shadows will one day become my killer. A terrifying, cold and dark, bloodthirsty death metal specter! The nightmare has shown its true colors again!
