Nejhorší bývá vždy zklamání. O někom si myslíte, jak je usměvavý a příjemný a potom ho potkáte v temné uličce uprostřed noci. Má v ruce nůž a když spadnete na zem, tak se kolem vás objeví rudá kaluž krve. Umíráte s údivem na tváři a vaše duše je zmrzlá jako led. Podobné pocity mívám i u některé hudby. Jakoby mi pronikla do žil, omotala mě pavučinami, chytila do svých spárů. DARKENED tohle všechno umí. A ještě přidávají něco navíc. Je to jako se dívat do sněhová vánice. Skladby v sobě mají pradávnou sílu severu.
Letošní EP "Lord of Sickness and Bile" je volným pokračováním věcí minulých. Dole pod článkem jsou odkazy na recenze předešlých nahrávek. Když si je přečtete, tak pochopíte, proč mám tuhle kapelu tolik rád. Umí totiž napsat skvělé, chladné melodie, které se vám doslova zadřou pod kůži. Už dlouho se mi nestalo, abych poslouchal "jenom" dva songy takhle dlouho stále dokola. Jenže nemám jinou možnost, jsem dávno prokletý.
Stylově se pánové stále pohybují mezi stejnými mantinely jako kapely typu BOLT THROWER, MEMORIAM, HAIL OF BULLETS, DISMEMBER, GRAVE, UNLEASHED, SLUGATHOR. A dělají to velmi inteligentně a elegantně. Vždycky jsem měl rád silné melodie a i tentokrát je moje touha ukojena. Určitě to také znáte. Člověk sedí u přehrávače a nemůže se odtrhnout. Ne, už dávno nejsem ve svém pokoji, ale někde daleko v lesích a zbývá mi už jen několik metrů na starý opuštěný hřbitov. Ano, tahle deska nejvíc vynikne v noci, mrazu a mimo tenhle svět. Existuje i druhá strana, za oponou. Zavřete za sebou rezavé dveře a sestupte do podzemí. Dostanete prvotřídní porci melodického death metalu se zničujícím účinkem. Poklekněte, otevřete rakev a užijte si zvuk (Drums were recorded and engineered by Pontus Ekwall at Studio Cave, and Gord Olson handled the mixing & mastering). Charakteristickým poznávacím znamením kapely jsou i obaly od mistra ve svém oboru - Juanjo Castellana. Není žádným tajemstvím, že jeho práci velmi obdivuji. Letošní obal se mu opravdu povedl. Už dávno nejsem mezi vámi, obyčejnými smrtelníky. Muzika mě převezla přes řeku Styx. Tady poznáte ihned všechny lháře, každou přetvářku. Zde se hraje jenom skvělá muzika. "Lord of Sickness and Bile" posloucháme úplně všichni. Nemrtví, démoni i přízraky. Pokud jste sběratelé vinylů, neváhejte ani chvilku. Tohle jednou bude krásný sběratelský kousek. I get a similar feeling with some music. It's as if it's penetrated my veins, wrapped me in its web, caught me in its clutches. DARKENED can do all that. And they add something extra. It's like looking into a blizzard. The songs have the ancient power of the north in them.
This year's EP "Lord of Sickness and Bile" is a loose continuation of things past. Down below the article are links to reviews of previous releases. If you read them, you'll understand why I love this band so much. Because they can write great, chill tunes that literally get under your skin. It's been a long time since I've listened to "just" two songs over and over again. But I have no choice, I'm cursed.
Stylistically, the gentlemen still move between the same boundaries as bands like BOLT THROWER, MEMORIAM, HAIL OF BULLETS, DISMEMBER, GRAVE, UNLEASHED, SLUGATHOR. And they do it very intelligently and elegantly. I've always liked strong melodies and this time my craving is also satisfied. I'm sure you know it too. One sits at the player and can't tear oneself away. No, I'm not in my room anymore, but somewhere far away in the woods, with only a few meters to go to an old abandoned cemetery. Yes, this record stands out most at night, freezing and out of this world. There is another side, behind the curtain. Close the rusty door behind you and descend into the underground. You'll get a first-class serving of melodic death metal with devastating effect. Kneel down, open the coffin and enjoy the sound (Drums were recorded and engineered by Pontus Ekwall at Studio Cave, and Gord Olson handled the mixing & mastering). The band's trademark covers are also by a master in his field - Juanjo Castellano. It's no secret that I greatly admire his work. This year's cover was really good. I've been gone a long time from you mere mortals. The music took me across the river Styx. Here you'll know every liar, every pretence. Here, only great music is played. "Lord of Sickness and Bile" is what we all listen to. The undead, the demons and the ghosts. If you're a vinyl collector, don't hesitate a moment.
