Poslední dobou si často představuji, jaké to musí být plout po řece smrti. Jen se tak vznášet na krvavých vlnách. Nahlížet do dávno opuštěných katakomb, rozmlouvat s nemrtvými. Chodím ulicemi a přemýšlím, kdy budu na řadě já, kdy moje tělo spočine ve věčnosti. Snažím se pochopit život a jeho pomíjivost. Prach ve vesmíru, velikost ducha, umírání. Proč neexistuje spravedlnost a ti dobří vždy odcházejí první? Otázek je mnoho, ale v knihách, ani starých spisech se toho příliš najít nedá. Raději poslouchám hudbu, která jitří mojí mysl, která mě dokáže přenést na druhou stranu.
Cestu finských doom death metalistů ASPHODELUS sleduji od jejich začátků a vždycky, když se s jejich hudbou potkám, mám pocit, že se zastavil čas. Dívám se na nebe a z mraků prší krev. Nebo to je jen moje představa? Poslouchejte pozorně, v klidu a absolutní tmě.
Není to ale jenom doom a death metal, které na albu naleznete. Pokud se setkáte s touto deskou vícekrát, na povrch vylezou i odkazy na gotiku a starý řecký black metal. Jako celek je potom "Sculpting from Time" chladný melancholický sen. Velmi často jsem měl pocit, že se vznáším, že se dívám na město pode mnou z výšky. Finové umí navodit smutné, magické nálady. Od posluchače to vyžaduje určitou dávku fantazie, ale to je vám doufám jasné od začátku. Opravdu se mi osvědčil poslech hluboko v lesích. Normálně si chci vychutnat ticho, ale tentokrát hudba moje rozpoložení nijak nenarušuje, naopak, krásně doplňuje. Líbí se mi zvuk (Mixed and Mastered by Marco S. Vermiglio at The Forge Music Productions (Mayhem, Bedsore, Grave Infestation), obdivuji obal. Vše je v nejlepším pořádku a fanoušci třeba takových EVOKEN, ANATHEMA, PARADISE LOST, TIAMAT, MY DYING BRIDE, SOLOTHUS, SATURNUS, by mohli být nadšeni stejně jako já. Kapela se pohybuje na tenké hranici mezi syrovou a chladou realitou a snem. Skladby v sobě mají takovou tu těžko popsatelnou sílu, drive, energii. Jako když jste dlouho zavřeni v místnosti bez oken a najednou je vám špatně. Potřebujete se nadechnout. ASPHODELUS vám takové nadechnutí umožní. Jedná se o smutnou, pomalou muziku, u které jsem se stále usmíval. Zastavil jsem zase jednou svoje kroky, zpomalil životní funkce a hibernoval jsem mezi naším a oním světem. Poslední dobou si často představuji, jaké to musí být plout po řece smrti. Jen se tak vznášet na krvavých vlnách. Nahlížet do dávno opuštěných katakomb, rozmlouvat s nemrtvými. List padající ve větru, tichá řeka smrti. Doom death metal s mrazivě temnou, melancholickou atmosférou!

Lately, I often imagine what it must be like to float down the river of death. Just floating on the bloody waves. Peering into long-abandoned catacombs, talking to the undead. I walk the streets and wonder when it will be my turn, when my body will rest in eternity. I try to understand life and its transience. The dust of the universe, the greatness of the spirit, dying. Why is there no justice and the good ones always go first? There are many questions, but not much can be found in books or old writings. I prefer to listen to music that stimulates my mind, that can transport me to the other side.
I've been following the journey of Finnish doom death metallers ASPHODELUS since their beginnings and every time I encounter their music, I feel like time has stopped. I look up at the sky and blood is raining from the clouds. Or is it just my imagination? Listen carefully, in peace and absolute darkness.
But it's not just doom and death metal that you'll find on the album. If you encounter this album more than once, references to gothic and old Greek black metal will also come to the surface. As a whole, then, "Sculpting from Time" is a cold melancholic dream. Very often I felt like I was floating, looking down on the city below me. Finns know how to evoke sad, magical moods. It requires a certain amount of imagination from the listener, but I hope that's clear to you from the start. Listening deep in the woods really worked for me. Normally I want to enjoy the silence, but this time the music doesn't disturb my mood, on the contrary, it complements it beautifully. I like the sound (Mixed and Mastered by Marco S. Vermiglio at The Forge Music Productions (Mayhem, Bedsore, Grave Infestation), I admire the cover art. Everything is in the best order and fans of such bands as EVOKEN, ANATHEMA, PARADISE LOST, TIAMAT, MY DYING BRIDE, SOLOTHUS, SATURNUS could be as excited as I am. The band walks a fine line between raw and cold reality and dream. The songs have this hard to describe power, drive, energy. Like when you're locked in a room with no windows for a long time and suddenly you feel sick. You need to breathe. ASPHODELUS allows you to take that breath. This is sad, slow music that made me smile all the time. I stopped my steps once more, slowed down my vital functions and hibernated between our world and the other. Lately, I often imagine what it must be like to float down the river of death. Just floating on the bloody waves. Peering into long-abandoned catacombs, talking to the undead. A leaf falling in the wind, the silent river of death. Doom death metal with a chillingly dark, melancholic atmosphere!
