Byl jsem venku už několik hodin a stále mě provázelo hezké počasí. Jenže teď je všechno jinak. Setmělo se a mraky jsou nízko. Ledový déšť, studený vítr, který se dostává až do mých kostí. IMMORTAL jsem se naučil poslouchat v přírodě již v době, kdy většina dnešních metalistů ještě ani nebyla na světě. Mám to takhle nastavené a vždy se mi to osvědčilo. Letos jsem si vzal s sebou novou desku "War Against All" znovu do lesa a najednou se ocitl v nekonečné říši dlouhých stínů.

Demonazův rukopis je stále originální, i když je prostým faktem, že u některých motivů mám pocit, že jsem je od něj již někdy slyšel. Je to vlastně stejné, jako u jakékoliv kapely, která hraje takhle dlouho. Buď k ní můžete přistupovat s despektem a říkat něco o tom, že už nic nového nevymyslí a nebo se naladit na stejnou vlnu a jejich hudbu si užít. Ne, noví IMMORTAL se nikam neposouvají. Stále se jedná o mrazivý black metal, převážně v středních tempech, který osloví i poslouchače, kteří tenhle styl neposlouchají každý den.

Můžu mít stovku připomínek k tomu, že IMMORTAL hrají stále to samé. Jenže i já potřebuji občas vypnout mozek, zmizet do lesa a jen tak odpočívat. A právě v těchto momentech si užívám novou desku nejvíce. Možná za to může stále velmi dobrý zvuk, možná tradiční a ověřené postupy, možná jenom syrově temná a studená atmosféra. Nevím a vlastně se mi to ani nechce vysvětlovat, ale novinka se mi líbí. Určitě existuje spousta lepších nahrávek, které byly letos vydány, ale když ono se album "War Against All" tak příjemně poslouchá. Já vlastně ani nechci, aby nastaly nějaké změny nebo nedej Satan progrese. Jsem starý pes, který když vezme do rukou CD s tímhle nápisem, tak chce svoji porci poctivé hudby. A tu jsem dostal. Samozřejmě i něco navíc. On je totiž Demonaz stále vznešený, záhadný a jeho riffy a melodie jsou nezaměnitelné. Hodně záleží, jak k hudbě přistupujete. Pokud ji rozebíráte a hledáte za každou cenu chyby, tak vezměte nohy na ramena a běžte pryč. Jestli ale jako já rádi a často chodíte ven a potřebujete příjemnou a neklidnou kulisu, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. A garantuji vám, že pokud bude mráz a vaše kroky vás zavedou až na lesní hřbitov, kde jsou na náhrobcích napsána jména všech prokletých, budete spokojeni. Máte rádi klasický, tradiční severský vítr v korunách stromů? Líbí se vám kapky krve na sněhu? Tak poslouchejte hodně nahlas. Pravý, nefalšovaný ledový black metal, který ocení všichni prokletí démoni!

I had been out for several hours and the weather was still nice. But now everything is different. It's dark and the clouds are low. Icy rain, cold winds that get into my bones. I learned to listen to IMMORTAL in the countryside back when most of today's metalheads weren't even born yet. I have it set up that way and it has always worked for me. This year I took the new album "War Against All" into the woods again and suddenly found myself in the endless realm of long shadows.

Demonaz's writing is still original, though the simple fact is that with some of the motifs I feel like I've heard them from him before. It's pretty much the same as any band that's been playing this long. You can either approach them with disdain and say something about them not coming up with anything new anymore, or you can tune into the same wave and enjoy their music. No, the new IMMORTAL are not going anywhere. It's still chilling black metal, mostly mid-tempo, that will appeal to listeners who don't listen to this style every day.

I can have a hundred comments about IMMORTAL playing the same thing over and over again. But even I need to turn off my brain sometimes, disappear into the woods and just relax. And it's in these moments that I enjoy the new album the most. Maybe it's still a very good sound, maybe traditional and proven methods, maybe just a raw dark and cold atmosphere. I don't know, and I don't really want to explain it, but I like the new album. I'm sure there are a lot of better records that have been released this year, but when it's "War Against All" it's so pleasant to listen to. I actually don't even want any changes or Satan forbid progression to occur. I'm an old dog who, when he picks up a CD with that label on it, wants his portion of honest music. And that's what I got. Of course, I got a little something extra. For Demonaz is still sublime, mysterious and his riffs and melodies are unmistakable. A lot depends on how you approach the music. If you're picking it apart and finding fault at all costs, then put your feet up and walk away. But if, like me, you like to go out a lot and need a nice and restless backdrop, then don't hesitate a moment. And I guarantee you that if it's freezing and your footsteps lead you to the forest cemetery where the names of all the damned are written on tombstones, you'll be satisfied. Do you like the classic, traditional Nordic wind in the treetops? Do you like drops of blood on the snow? Then listen very loudly. True, unadulterated ice black metal that all cursed demons will appreciate!
