Některé pohřby nebývají smutné. V rakvi může ležet i člověk, kterého nikdo neměl rád. Násilník, který ublížil spoustě lidem. Když je konečně tělo v zemi a začne se rozkládat, mnohým se uleví. Jenže prokletí jen tak nezemřou. Toulají se mezi naším a oním světem. Páchnou zkaženým masem a když po letech naleznete jejich kostru, stále z ní jde strach. Úplně stejné pocity mám i z debutového alba španělských SANCTUARIUM.
Jedná se přesně o takový ten druh doom death metalu, u kterého se ve vašem pokoji ochladí o několik stupňů a budete se neustále ohlížet za sebe. Není za rohem podivný stín? Novinka působí děsivě, hororově, je po okraj narvaná tmou a špinavými myšlenkami.
Povedl se prašivý zvuk i obal. Skladby se mi pomalu zadřely hluboko do vnitřností. Začal jsem se rozpadat, hnít zaživa. Přesto jsem se musel k nahrávce stále vracet. Byl jsem jako prokletý, uhranutý. "Into the Mephitic Abyss" se mi otisklo do mozku, jako cejch. Pánové hrají velmi uvěřitelně, takovým tím starých způsobem, který byl praktikován v devadesátých letech minulého století. Tahle deska je mrazivá a chladná. Skladby v sobě obsahují velké množství krutosti, nahrubo nasekané tmy. Zlo má mnoho podob a to v podání SANCTUARIUM je velmi surové a syrové. Zkuste někdy sejít po schodech dolů, do katakomb, ve kterých jsou pohřbeni padlí kněží. Také cítíte pach plísně a smrti? Tak úplně stejný zážitek dostanete i při poslechu této desky. Základem je zde pohřební doom metal, ale zazní i odkazy na INCANTATION. Je pro mě velmi příjemné se vydat v noci na hřbitov. Exhumovat nějaký opuštěný hrob a přemýšlet, jakým způsobem přišla smrt. Zajímavé je, že při poslechu "Into the Mephitic Abyss" vykopu pokaždé jenom těla násilných jedinců. Cítím hmatatelnou přítomnost smrti. Tohle je přesně ten druh hudby, kterou by měli pouštět na pohřbech všem, které neměl nikdo rád. Španělé odvedli skvělou morbidní práci po všech stránkách. Pokud jste fanoušci stylu, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Prach jsi a v prach se obrátíš! Tajemná, děsivá, doom death metalová noční můra, kterou zažijete v opuštěných kryptách!

This is exactly the kind of doom death metal that will make your room a few degrees colder and make you constantly look behind you. Is there a strange shadow around the corner? The new stuff is eerie, horrific, filled to the brim with darkness and dirty thoughts.
The dusty sound and the packaging were great. The songs slowly dug deep into my gut. I started to crumble, to rot alive. Still, I kept coming back to the record. It was like I was cursed, bewitched. "Into the Mephitic Abyss" imprinted itself on my brain like a brand. The gentlemen play very believably, in that old way that was practiced in the 1990s. This record is chilling and cold. The songs have a lot of cruelty in them, roughly chopped darkness. Evil comes in many forms and the one performed by SANCTUARIUM is very raw and raw. Try going down the stairs sometime, into the catacombs where the fallen priests are buried. Do you also smell mould and death? That's exactly the same experience you get when you listen to this record. The basis here is funeral doom metal, but there are also references to INCANTATION. I find it very pleasant to go to the cemetery at night. Exhuming some abandoned grave and wondering how death came about. Interestingly, when I listen to "Into the Mephitic Abyss" I only dig up the bodies of violent individuals every time. I feel the palpable presence of death. This is exactly the kind of music that should be played at funerals for everyone who wasn't loved. The Spaniards have done a great morbid job all round. If you're a fan of the style, don't hesitate a moment. Dust you are and to dust you shall return! A mysterious, eerie, doom death metal nightmare that you will experience in abandoned crypts!
