Mám vždycky velkou radost, když potkám na svých toulkách kapely, které jsou progresivní, technické a zároveň nepůsobí uměle. Patřím ke starší generaci fanoušků, kteří musí mít v hudbě drive a sílu, takové to těžko vysvětlitelné chvění. Belgické PESTIFER jsem si pro sebe objevil již v roce 2010, když jim vyšla prvotina "Age of Disgrace". Pomalu, postupně jsem se stal jejich příznivcem.
Líbí se mi způsob, jakým hrají, jak skládají. Skladby na mě pokaždé (a letos to není výjimkou) působí zpočátku nepřístupně a chaoticky. Po společně strávených letech ale už dávno vím, že jim musím dát čas, poslouchat je nejlépe odpočinutý a v klidu. Pak jsem odměněn skvělým zážitkem. Nové EP "Defeat of the Nemesis" má velmi velkou trvanlivost. Neustále se k němu vracím a stále objevuji nové zajímavé momenty. A zároveň cítím žár, který ze songů doslova sálá na všechny strany.
Základem je opět klasický smrtící kov a přidávána je spousta progresivních rockových a jazzových prvků. Činěno je tak velmi elegantně, s vkusem a nadšením. Ze skladeb je cítit neklid, který je v některých momentech až "nepříjemný". Mám to takhle rád. Inspiraci pánové hledali v kapelách jako ATHEIST, OBSCURA, CYNIC, GORGUTS, ANATA, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, ale i třeba SADUS, VEKTOR, VOIVOD. Samozřejmě, předložené myšlenky pánové dále rozvíjejí a objevují nová zákoutí. Jak už jsem psal několikrát, není to lehký poslech, songy musí uzrát. Dovedu pochopit, že se někomu nebude chtít přemýšlet. Ale takoví my nejsme, co říkáte? Jinak bychom byli ochuzeni a spoustu dobré muziky. PESTIFER vám rozdrásají fantazii, vezmou vás na výlet do jiných dimenzí. Nebudete se chtít vrátit, alespoň tak jsem to měl vždy já. Velmi se povedl obal od mistra Davida Caryna. Oceňuji i čitelný a zároveň zničující zvuk (Gérald Jans - Recording, Mixing). "Defeat of the Nemesis" působí velmi svěže, hravě. Je jako pára nad hrncem, která vás může spálit, ale také se brzy rozplyne. Některé pasáže jsou neuchopitelné a je to tak jenom dobře. Hodně záleží, jak přistupujete k hudbě jako celku. Pokud jste otevřeni novým věcem a rádi a často objevujete nové rozměry a oblasti, budete spokojeni jako já. Pokud ale vyžadujete jednoduchost a přehlednost, vezměte nohy na ramena a utíkejte pryč. Pravdou je, že na hudbu PESTIFER musím mít náladu. Když se tak ale stane, jedná se o skvělý zážitek. Vznešený, monumentální technický death metalový výlet do jiných sfér!

I'm always very happy when I meet bands on my travels that are progressive, technical and at the same time not artificial. I'm part of an older generation of fans who have to have drive and power in their music, that hard-to-explain tingle. I discovered Belgium's PESTIFER for myself back in 2010 when their debut album "Age of Disgrace" was released. Slowly, gradually I became a fan.
I like the way they play, the way they compose. The songs always (and this year is no exception) strike me as inaccessible and chaotic at first. But after spending years together, I know I have to give them time, listening to them is best relaxed and calm. Then I am rewarded with a great experience. The new EP "Defeat of the Nemesis" has a lot of staying power. I keep coming back to it and keep discovering new interesting moments. And at the same time I feel the heat that literally radiates from the songs in all directions.
The base is again classic death metal and a lot of progressive rock and jazz elements are added. It's done so very elegantly, with taste and enthusiasm. There is a sense of unease from the songs that is almost "uncomfortable" at some points. I like it that way. The gentlemen looked for inspiration in bands like ATHEIST, OBSCURA, CYNIC, GORGUTS, ANATA, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, but also SADUS, VEKTOR, VOIVOD. Of course, the presented ideas are further developed by the gentlemen and new corners are discovered. As I have written several times, it is not an easy listening, the songs have to mature. I can understand that some people won't want to think. But we're not like that, are we? Otherwise we would be deprived of a lot of good music. PESTIFER will tear your imagination apart, take you on a trip to other dimensions. You won't want to go back, at least that's how I always felt. The cover artwork by the master David Caryn is very good. I also appreciate the clear and at the same time devastating sound (Gérald Jans - Recording, Mixing). It's like steam over a pot that can burn you, but also soon dissipates. Some passages are elusive and that's just as well. A lot depends on how you approach the music as a whole. If you're open to new things and like to explore new dimensions and areas often, you'll be happy as I was. But if you demand simplicity and clarity, take your feet on your shoulders and run away. The truth is, I have to be in the mood for PESTIFER music. But when I do, it is a great experience. A sublime, monumental technical death metal trip into other realms!
