Pár skvrn na zdi a divný pach. Důkazy jsou jasné, ale chybí tělo. Sledujeme stopy a připadáme si bezradní. Nakonec objevíme dveře do sklepa a vstoupíme mezi nestrašnější noční můry. Nechápeme, nechceme pochopit zlo, které je všude kolem nás. Takový hodný soused, každého zdravil a usmíval se. Do lidské mysli nevidíte, za falešnou maskou se ukrývá temnota.
Na tenhle příběh ze starého hororu jsem si vzpomněl, když jsem slyšel poprvé nové EP od německých STAHL. Ti jsou věrni starodávnému zvuku i postupům. Jejich death metal řeže jako rezavý nůž, který dlouhé roky ležel ve staré kobce. Vítejte v záhrobí, v zemi nekonečných stínů.
Vlivy, kterými lze "Heads Will Roll" popsat, lze vystopovat až do devadesátých let minulého století. Valivý smrtící kov, který jede kupředu jako buldozer, je ovlivněný třeba takovými MASSACRE, BOLT THROWER, MORGOTH, BENEDICTION, SIX FEET UNDER. Je to zkrátka pradávný poctivý death metal, u kterého nezůstanete v klidu. Velmi dobře a zajímavě napsané skladby se vám zaryjí hluboko pod kůži. Chladné melodie, velká porce tmy, tohle všechno tvoří dohromady opravdu zabijácký koktejl. Líbí se mi zvuk i produkce, zajímavý je i obal, který přesně vyjadřuje to, co se odehrává na novém EP. Smrt, chlad a špína, nasbírané hluboko pod zemí. Chybí mi vlastně jen jedna věc. Chtěl bych dlouhohrající desku, abych si hudbu německých maniaků ještě víc vychutnal. Ocitám se znovu a znovu na místech, na kterých se stal nějaký násilný čin. Tenhle styl muziky býval vždy o ošklivých věcech a nejvíc se mi na něm líbila atmosféra, kterou kapely umějí vytvořit. Ta v podání STAHL, je velmi podmanivá, zákeřná. Potřebná agresivita se potkává s absolutní tmou. Na hromadě lebek stojí rozkročena smečka prašivých psů a láme kosti tlakem, energií a hnisem, který ze songů odkapává jako zkažená krev. "Heads Will Roll" bych rád doporučil všem, kteří se rádi a často přehrabují v čerstvě exhumovaných hrobech. Smrt je zase jednou hodně blízko. Zničující old school death metal, který vás rozdrtí na prach!

A few stains on the wall and a weird smell. The evidence is clear, but the body is missing. We follow the clues and feel clueless. Eventually we discover the cellar door and enter amongst the most horrific nightmares. We don't understand, we don't want to understand the evil that is all around us. Such a good neighbor, greeting everyone and smiling. You can't see into the human mind, behind the false mask hides darkness.
I was reminded of this tale from an old horror movie when I first heard the new EP from Germany's STAHL. They are true to the old-time sound and methods. Their death metal cuts like a rusty knife that has been lying in an old dungeon for years. Welcome to the afterlife, the land of endless shadows.
The influences used to describe "Heads Will Roll" can be traced back to the 1990s. Rolling death metal that drives forward like a bulldozer is influenced by the likes of MASSACRE, BOLT THROWER, MORGOTH, BENEDICTION, SIX FEET UNDER. It's simply ancient honest death metal, which will not leave you in peace. Very well and interestingly written songs will dig deep under your skin. Cold melodies, a big portion of darkness, all this makes a really killer cocktail. I like the sound and the production, and the cover art is interesting, as it accurately conveys what is happening on the new EP. Death, cold and dirt, collected deep underground. There's really only one thing missing. I would have liked a long-playing record to enjoy the music of the German maniacs even more. I find myself again and again in places where some violent act has taken place. This style of music used to always be about nasty things and what I liked most about it was the atmosphere the bands could create. The one performed by STAHL, is very captivating, insidious. The necessary aggression meets absolute darkness. A pack of mangy dogs stand straddling a pile of skulls, breaking bones with pressure, energy and pus that drips from the songs like tainted blood. I'd recommend "Heads Will Roll" to anyone who likes to rummage through freshly exhumed graves often. Death is once again very close. Devastating old school death metal that will crush you to dust!
