A few questions - interview with italian death metal band - THRONE OF FLESH.

Answered Flavio, Joseph, Alessandro and Tato, thank you!

Recenze/review - THRONE OF FLESH - Dust (2023):

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Flavio - Hi, here is Flavio, guitarist of Throne of Flesh. I started the band in the spring of 2018 just to play classic 90s death metal with my old friends Joseph and Tat0, who I played with in the past: after the recording of our first work Dogma, we added our friend Ale to the drums.

Throne of Flesh plays pure, old death metal, mixing American and European sound, a bastard son between Autopsy, Entombed, Morbid Angel, and Gorefest, etc.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production, and mastering?

Flavio - Generally we record our music in different places because we live far from each other. I live near Rome, Tat0 and Ale stay near Vibo Valentia in the south of Italy, and Joseph lives in Perù.

Generally, I write the music, then I prepare the recording session by sending the songs to the guys so they can record their parts. Then I mix and complete the work like a big, rot puzzle.

We constantly send the songs to each other for arrangements or to modify what we feel needs to be changed. The team is strong and we are able to reach a good result beware the distance.

Joseph – We took care about master process too.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Flavio - Dust is out in an stunning digipak cd and digital. No vinyl or tape for now.

Joseph: 500 copies of DUST are out.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Joseph - The lyrics of DOGMA, our first work, are focused on the cursed disgraces that are afflicting humanity since so far, commonly know with the name of religions. We considered monotheistic religions, old unrevealed religions, animistic-natural cults and last but not the least, the childish fideistic satanism. The fake intent of a religion is to spiritually elevate a human being, but actually they want only to enslave this last. You can find the 4 tracks contained in DOGMA, as final bonus tracks of our cd. The tracks you can find in DUST are a macabre journey among different cults of dead and funeral ceremony around the world. We pass from Inca’s empire and their malkikuna mummies to the gruesome ceremony of Ma’nene among Toranga population in Indonesia; from smoked enemy warriors of Aseki population to the magnificent ceremony of བྱ་གཏོར་ (BYA GTOR) in Tibet, where the scavengers devour remains of the dead. Every ceremony or cult ends in the same way, your mortal remains will be dust. After some years - with only few exceptions – your memory will have the same inexorable doom: DUST!

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

Flavio - I drew the logo, it's ugly and old style.

The artwork was done by me and Joseph with the help of Tat0 and Ale. We work together on every detail of Throne of Flesh

Joseph - Most probably we come from another time, but we think that social networks are very important to promote your band, but music comes first. Too many bands nowadays have their pages online without have no song out, or worst without any rehearsal as real band.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Tato - The label we have chosen is Great Dane Records, French, with many other productions that turn to the old school metal death, thrash and something black. He printed the disc in digipack and is doing a great deal of distribution and promotion, placing the album in all major streaming channels. It was what was for us, a label that knows what Death Metal is and that moves with passion, seriousness and professionalism.

Joseph – I take this opportunity to thanks Ralph and GREAT DANE RECORDS for his huge support.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Flavio - Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Entombed, Deicide, Carcass, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Gorefest, the names are infinite.

We love old-school death metal, we grew up with the original scene in our adolescence so the link is really strong, it’s a true life passion.

Joseph - Today we are too old to idolise somebody eheheheh but for sure we are big fans of old school death metal. The list could be really neverending. According to me, the golden age of this style is between the years 1985-1995 e.v.

Alessandro - I personally listen to death metal of American school, bands like Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Deicide, Bolt Thrower have raised me, and have always inspired me in what I play

Tato - I am also strongly attached to American death metal, while listening to something European school, the names are those mentioned by the other guys, but I do not know sincerely how they affect what I play, certainly they are bandche have marked me

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Tato - This time we didn’t actually send anything in promotion, we didn’t search for labels, we went straight to Great Dane Records, because we already knew his way of working having had other direct and indirect experiences. The label immediately agreed to produce the album, and we didn’t regret it at all.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

Flavio - Unfortunately Throne of Flesh never played live for now.

We played together in a different band in the past, but for now, we don’t have an upcoming program for shows. Hope we will do it one day!

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Flavio - Dust is out now so it’s time to promote the work. The next step is to record another record: I've started to write some stuff and riffs in this period, and maybe we will record something by the end of 2023...

Joseph - Smash your ears folks! We would like to unleash as many works as we can. I really would like to see TOF on vinyl one of these days, i’m totally crazy for this kind of format.
