Město je již několik dní zahaleno do tmy a studené mlhy. Někteří říkají, že je konec světa. V ulicích je možné spatřit přízraky. Určitě je znáte. Už jste je viděli ve svých děsivých snech. Budili jste se uprostřed noci a měli jste nehty zaryté do dlaní. Tenká je hranice mezi realitou a snem. Teď si ale můžete být absolutně jistí. Stačí vylézt ven a nechat si prokousnout hrdlo od první příšery.
Někde na pomezí děsivého snu a kruté reality musela vzniknout i prvotina australských black death metalových BLACK LAVA. Album se ke mě dostalo nejdříve díky skvělému obalu, který má na svědomí vynikající malíř Paolo Girardi. Nahrávku jsem si pustil ze svého přehrávače a zůstal sedět jako zkamenělý. Hudba mě doslova uhranula. Má v sobě něco magického, přitažlivého a zároveň zlého a mrazivého. Odříkal jsem spolu s kapelou černou mantru a stal se jejich fanouškem.
Album je totiž opravdu jako nějaký zlý sen, představa, abstraktní obraz, který každým dalším poslechem získává jasnější, děsivější obrysy. Základem je muzika, která se hrávala v devadesátých letech, samozřejmě s jasnějším a zřetelnějším zvukem. Hlavní jsou tu temné a špinavé myšlenky, nálady, známé ze starých pohřebišť. Skladby jsou svým způsobem velmi jedovaté, zákeřné a dostávaly se mi pod kůži postupně. Líbí se mi, jakým způsobem pracuje kapela s atmosférou. Jako bych se ocitl na středověkém rituálu pro vyvolávání duší zemřelých. Poslouchat "Soul Furnace" je jako se dívat do popraskaného zrcadla. Vidíte v něm sice svoji tvář, ale i to, co je ukryto hluboko ve vašich myslích. Temnotu, zlo, pradávné pudy, které vylezou na povrch v extrémních situacích. Mám rád, když ve mě dokáží nahrávky probudit emoce a při poslechu debutu BLACK LAVA se procházím lesem někde na severu Evropy. Na starých hřbitovech si čtu názvy kapel, které byly téhle smečce vzorem a kývám spokojeně hlavou do rytmu. Australané, alespoň tedy pro mě, vydali v podstatě dokonalé album. Je skvěle napsáno, má v sobě černou jiskru a vkrádá se mi díky němu do mozku neklid. Město je již několik dní zahaleno do tmy a studené mlhy. Za chvíli vylezu ven a nechám si prokousnout hrdlo. "Soul Furnace" budu mít určitě s sebou. Mrazivá, temná black death metalová noční můra!

The city has been shrouded in darkness and cold fog for several days. Some say it's the end of the world. Ghosts can be seen in the streets. I'm sure you know them. You've seen them in your frightening dreams. You've woken up in the middle of the night with your nails stuck in your palms. There's a thin line between reality and dream. But now you can be absolutely certain. All you have to do is climb out and get your throat bitten out by the first monster.
Somewhere on the border between a terrifying dream and cruel reality, the first album of Australian black death metal BLACK LAVA must have been created. The album came to me first thanks to the great cover artwork by the excellent artist Paolo Girardi. I played the record from my player and sat there petrified. I was literally spellbound by the music. It has something magical, appealing and at the same time evil and chilling. I recited the black mantra with the band and became a fan.
The album is really like a bad dream, an imagination, an abstract image that gets clearer, scarier outlines with each listen. The basis is the music that was played in the nineties, of course with a clearer and more distinct sound. Dark and dirty ideas are the main ones here, moods familiar from old burial grounds. The songs are very venomous in their own way, insidious and got under my skin gradually. I like the way the band works with the atmosphere. It's like being at a medieval ritual for summoning the souls of the dead. Listening to "Soul Furnace" is like looking into a cracked mirror. You see your face in it, but you also see what is hidden deep inside your mind. The darkness, the evil, the ancient instincts that come to the surface in extreme situations. I love it when records can awaken emotions in me and listening to BLACK LAVA's debut album I'm walking through a forest somewhere in Northern Europe. In old graveyards, I read the names of the bands that have been the inspiration for this band and nod my head in satisfaction to the rhythm. The Australians, at least for me, have released a basically perfect album. It's brilliantly written, has a black sparkle to it, and makes my brain creep with unease. The city has been shrouded in darkness and cold fog for days now. I'm about to come out and get my throat bitten out. I'll be sure to have "Soul Furnace" with me. A chilling, dark black death metal nightmare!
