Možná v tom je kousek nostalgie, ale přesto si poslední dobou často říkám, kam se vytratilo dobré řemeslo? Nemyslím tím jen muziku, ale všeobecně. Spousta kapel, které jsem míval hrozně rád, zestárla a jejich nové desky mě už moc nezajímají. A pak tu máme SAXON. Ryzí heavy metal. Opravdovost, velké srdce. Na novou desku "Carpe Diem" jsem se opravdu těšil. A opět a znovu sedím, přidávám neustále hlasitost a užívám si hudbu po okraj narvanou skvělými skladbami.
Přemýšlím o tom, kde se v kapele pořád bere takové množství energie, nadšení, schopnosti zalézt do studia, nahrát neskutečně kompaktní a soudržné album, nakopat nám zadky a odejít středem? Vzájemná chemie mezi mnou a SAXON stále funguje a bylo tomu tak odnepaměti.
Napsat dobrou skladbu je umění a dost často se na to zapomíná. Novinka se ale nejen velmi příjemně poslouchá, ale má v sobě i přesně namíchaný koktejl z patosu (se kterým Britové umí nakládat jako nikdo jiný), spoustu ostrých riffů, motivů, které si po několika posleších pamatuji a nemůžu je vyhnat z hlavy. Vše pak korunuje dle mého jeden z nejlepších hlasů v metalu vůbec - Biff Byford osobně. Nevím, jak to mistr dělá, ale zraje jako nejkvalitnější víno. Já už vlastně tenhle styl skoro vůbec neposlouchám, většina novinek mi přijde nudná, ale tady musím udělat velkou výjimku. Podle mého se zde hraje přesně heavy metal v jeho základní podobě. Tak to má vypadat, přátelé! SAXON se vrací do dob "Crusader" a vůbec mi novinka svoji atmosférou připomíná spíše starší desky. Je to vlastně takový průřez tím, co umí kapela nejlépe - ano, opět heavy metal, jakkoliv to může znít pateticky. Zase si po dlouhé době s nějakou kapelou povídám, podupávám si nohou, vnímám každý tón. Zvuk od Andyho Sneapa bych si dovedl představit syrovější, živočišnější a obal je takový nijaký, ale to jsou jen drobnosti, které kapela s klidem a nadhledem vyváží svojí elegancí. Na "Carpe Diem" je vlastně nejlepší to, že je to obyčejná deska. Cítím z ní jakousi samozřejmost, přirozenost, skvělé řemeslo, zkrátka věci, na které se dnes skoro zapomíná. A teď už prosím ticho, dost bylo slov, nechme mluvit hudbu. Kovové srdce bije stále velkou heavy metalovou silou! Vynikající album!

A lot of bands I used to love have gotten old and their new records don't interest me much anymore. And then there's SAXON. Pure heavy metal. Genuineness, big heart. I was really looking forward to the new album "Carpe Diem". And again I sit, turning up the volume and enjoying music packed to the brim with great songs.
I wonder where does the band still get the energy, the enthusiasm, the ability to crawl into the studio, record an incredibly compact and cohesive album, kick our asses and walk away? The mutual chemistry between me and SAXON still works and has always done so.
Writing a good song is an art and it is often forgotten. But the new album is not only very pleasant to listen to, but also has a precisely mixed cocktail of pathos (which the Brits know how to handle like nobody else), a lot of sharp riffs, motifs that I remember after a few listens and can't get them out of my head. Everything is crowned by one of the best voices in metal ever - Biff Byford himself. I don't know how the master does it, but he ages like the finest wine. I don't really listen to this style anymore, I find most of the new stuff boring, but here I have to make a big exception. In my opinion, this is exactly heavy metal in its basic form. That's how it should be, my friends! SAXON is going back to the days of "Crusader" and in general the new stuff reminds me of older albums. It's actually a cross-section of what the band does best - yes, heavy metal again, as pathetic as it may sound. After a long time I'm talking to a band again, tapping my foot, feeling every note. I would imagine Andy Sneap's sound to be more raw, more animalistic and the cover artwork is so bland, but these are just small things that the band balances with their elegance with calm and detachment. In fact, the best thing about "Carpe Diem" is that it's an ordinary record. It feels like a kind of commonplace, naturalness, great signature, in short, things that are almost forgotten nowadays. Now please be quiet, enough with the words, let the music do the talking. The metal heart is still beating with great heavy metal power! Excellent album!
