CD 2020, Transcending Records
Muzika je pro mě někdy jako procházka zrcadlovým labyrintem. Jsem sice spíše posluchačem, který tráví většinu času ve starých opuštěných katakombách, kde se potkávám převážně s konzervativními kapelami, ale občas se kouknu na svůj obraz v zrcadle a vyrazím ven ze své ulity. Mám najednou chuť objevovat, nasávat atmosféru, popustit uzdu své fantazii. A právě v podobný moment jsem potkal novou desku finské legendy CONVULSE. Již první setkání bylo jako průlet nad mraky. Osvěžující, zajímavé, pestré.
Spousta nestálých fanoušků Finy dávno odepsalo. Chybí jim starý způsob hraní, ocenili by raději retro. Možná bych sám patřil mezi ně, jenže já mám bujnou fantazii. Byl jsem najednou v labyrintu plném zakřivených skel a poslouchal "Deathstar". Zažil jsem tam, stejně jako s deskou, spoustu zajímavých zážitků.
CONVULSE si dali i letos na nahrávce velmi záležet. Krásně čitelný zvuk je samozřejmostí, obal je doslova uhrančivý a krásně doplňuje hudbu. Ta je postavená sice na pevných death metalových základech, ale jinak jsou Finové velmi nespoutaní. Nebojí se vydat do stejných vod jako třeba AMORPHIS. Užijeme si spolu s kapelou ozvěny podobné těm od PINK FLOYD, RUSH, PORCUPINE TREE, ale klidně i klasiku jako od JUDAS PRIEST. "Deathstar" je pro mě albem, které je nejlepší opravdu poslouchat v zrcadlovém labyrintu. Ostře řezaná sóla vás nasměřují do zcela neprobádaných oblastí. A když už budete mít pocit, že opravdu létáte, srazí vás na zem hrubý hlas. Podobným způsobem skládají hudbu jazzmani a v podání CONVULSE je velmi přitažlivá. Jsem starý pes, kterého nechává většina takovýchto pokusů v klidu (většinou se jedná jen o kopie, bez jakéhokoliv chvění a nápadů), ale finská legenda ke mě mluví jasnou a srozumitelnou řečí. Kapela je sice progresivní, ale pořád si zachovává jasný řád a tím pádem se deska opravdu skvěle poslouchá. Jen nesmíte být zakopání ve starých hrobech. Líbí se mi těkavé, neklidné nálady, mám chuť utíkat, je to jako když vyběhnete nad město a nasáváte z plných plic čerstvý vzduch. "Deathstar" je přemýšlivou, inteligentní záležitostí, je definicí chladu, temnoty a zvláštního druhu smutku, který ze skladeb také cítím. Zrcadla jsou rozbita, ruce rudé od krve, zůstává jen skvělá muzika!

For me, music is sometimes like a walk through a mirror labyrinth. Although I'm more of a listener who spends most of my time in old abandoned catacombs, where I meet mostly conservative bands, sometimes I look at my picture in the mirror and go out of my shell. Suddenly I feel like discovering, soaking up the atmosphere, letting my imagination run wild. And just at a similar moment I met a new record of the Finnish legend CONVULSE. The first meeting was like flying over clouds. Refreshing, interesting, colorful.
A lot of unstable fans cut off this band a long time ago. They miss their old way, they would rather retro. I might be one of them myself, but I have a wild imagination. I was suddenly in a labyrinth full of curved glass listening to "Deathstar". I experienced a lot of interesting experiences there, as well as with the record.
CONVULSE put a lot of attention to the recording this year. Beautifully readable sound is something what cant be missed here, the cover is literally enchanting and beautifully fit with the music. It is built on solid death metal foundations, but otherwise the Finns are much unfettered. They are not afraid to go to the same waters as, for example, AMORPHIS. Together with the band, we will enjoy echoes similar to those from PINK FLOYD, RUSH, PORCUPINE TREE, but also classics as from JUDAS PRIEST. "Deathstar" is for me an album that is best to really listen to in a mirror maze. Sharply cut solos will direct you to completely unexplored areas. And when you feel like you're really flying, a rough voice knocks you to the ground. Jazz music is composed in a similar way and is very attractive in the CONVULSE performance. I am an old dog who cares about most of this kind of attempts (usually only copies, without any tremors and ideas), but the Finnish legend speaks to me in clear and understandable language. The band is progressive, but they still keep a clear order and therefore the record is very well listenable. You just can't be buried in old graves. I like volatile, restless moods, I feel like running away, it's like running over the city and sucking in fresh air from your lungs. "Deathstar" is a thoughtful, intelligent matter, it is a definition of cold, darkness and a special kind of sadness that I also feel from the songs. The mirrors are broken, hands are red with blood, only great music remains!
