Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hail Jakub! I was wondering in which language to write back to you, but since I speak Czech, it will probably be easier for both of us. Cancerfaust was founded by Szymon Sądej and me at the beginning of 2013. Initially, we operated under the name Born To Rot. From the very beginning our goal was to play the classic form of death metal. By the end of 2013, many musicians went through the line-up and this was sealed by the tragic death of Szymon on November 12, 2013. A moment before that, Michał on guitar and Oktawiusz on drums joined the line-up. In the first half of 2014, Kornel on bass and Maciej on vocals completed the band's line-up. With this line-up we recorded the first two materials. Killing Spree in 2016 and Watching You Die in 2018.

Hail Jakube! Říkal jsem si, ve kterém jazyce Ti mám odepsat, ale protože mluvím česky, bude to asi pro nás oba jednodušší. Cancerfaust jsme založili Szymon Sądej a já na začátku roku 2013. Nejprve jsme působili pod jménem Born To Rot. Od samého začátku bylo naším cílem hrát klasickou formu death metalu. Do konce roku 2013 prošlo kapelou řada mnoha hudebníků, což bylo spečeteno tragickou smrtí Szymona 12. listopadu 2013. Krátce před tím se ke kapele přidali Michał na kytaru a Oktawiusz na bicí. V první polovině roku 2014 se k kapele přidali Kornel na basu a Maciej na vokálech. V této sestavě jsme nahráli první dva materiály: Killing Spree v roce 2016 a Watching You Die v roce 2018.
Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

There were several recording sessions and each of them took place in different places. We recorded the drums in Piła at our drummer's friend studio. The guitars and bass were recorded in Poznań, while the vocals were recorded six months later in a studio in Konin. This break was due to the total ineptitude of the music engineer who was recording guitars and drums. The guy had computer crashes and lost all tracks we have recorded. It took him several months to recover the data. Finally mix and master were made by Mariusz Konieczny at Heavy Gear Studio. I have told him how it should sound and what effect do we want to achieve.

Proběhlo několik nahrávání a každé z nich probíhalo na různých místech. Nahrávali jsme bicí v Pile ve studiu u kamaráda našeho bubeníka. Kytary a basy byly nahrány v Poznani, zatímco vokály byly nahrány o šest měsíců později ve studiu v Koninu. Tato přestávka byla způsobena naprostou neschopností člověka, který nás nahrával. Ten chlap měl nějakou poruchu počítače a ztratil všechny nahrané skladby. Obnovení dat mu trvalo několik měsíců. Nakonec začal mixovat a mastrovat Mariusz Konieczny z Heavy Gear Studio. Dal jsem mu pokyny, jak by měl materiál znít a jaký efekt chceme dosáhnout.
How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?
Eng.
As far as I know, the album was released in 300 copies at the moment. Unfortunately, the pandemic situation forces us and the label to act carefully. There is no point in producing large amounts of CDs when people are focused on not losing their jobs. As soon as we know how the selling is going, we will think about the repres and pressing the vinyl. Of course, the material is also available in a digital version.

Pokud vím, album vyšlo v tuto chvíli ve 300 kopiích. Naneštěstí pandemická situace nutí nás i label jednat opatrně. Nemá smysl dělat hodně CD, když se lidé soustředí na to, aby neztratili práci. Jakmile zjistíme, jak dobře jde prodej, pomyslíme na další vydání a lisování vinylu. Materiál je samozřejmě k dispozici také v digitální verzi.
Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
Eng.
The author of all the lyrics on the latest album is me. Already at Watching You Die, I started taking over the role of a texter in the band. Maciej's lyrics, our previous vocalist, oscillated around the gore style, which at some point stopped to suit us. The lyrics on the newest album focus on death and its aspects in different cultures over time. There are also strictly anti-Christian texts. I think that the lyrics for To the Pyre will be the most interesting from the Czech listener's point of view. It tells about burning Jan Hus at the stake. It is written a bit perversely because from the perspective of the people who sent it to the pile, showing their hypocrisy and desire for power.

Autorem všech textů na posledním albu jsem já. Už na Watching You Die jsem začal v kapele přebírat roli textaře. Maciejovy texty, náš předchozí zpěvák, oscilovaly kolem gore stylu, který nás v určitém okamžiku přestal vyhovovat. Texty nejnovějšího alba se zaměřují na smrt a její aspekty v různých kulturách v průběhu času. Existují také přísně protikřesťanské texty. Myslím, že texty pro To the Pyre budou z pohledu českého posluchače nejzajímavější. Vypráví o upálení Jana Husa. Je to psáno trochu zvráceně, protože z pohledu lidí, kteří ho poslali na hranici, ukazuje jejich pokrytectví a touhu po moci.
Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?
Eng.
The first logo was designed by the then girlfriend of our drummer - Konstancja Bartoszewska. Initially we liked it a lot, but but it reminded many people the Entombed logo and they started labeling us as Swedish death metal. The current logo was made for us by the Indian drawer Casus Artem. I told him to take our old logo and load it with steroids. As a result logo is more brutal. I am responsible also for the visual side. I took some of the photos myself during my travels. This is how the artwork for Watching You Die was created. I took the photo in the morgue under the church of St. James in Brno. The author of the cover for Let the Earth Tremble is Dawid Figielek, a man with an amazing sense of this apocalyptic climate. I believe that social media is a very important element today. There used to be letters, but now you have contact with fans through internet portals. It is also a great way to promote your music. The Internet gives us unlimited possibilities in this. The point is, you know how to use them.

První logo navrhla tehdejší přítelkyně našeho bubeníka - Konstancja Bartoszewska. Zpočátku se nám moc líbilo, ale mnoho lidem připomínalo logo Entombed a začali nás označovat jako švédský death metal. Aktuální logo pro nás vytvořil indický umělec Casus Artem. Řekl jsem mu, aby vzal naše staré logo a naložil jej steroidy. Jsem zodpovědný za vizuální stránku. Některé z fotografií jsem pořídil sám během svých cest. Takto byla vytvořena kresba pro Watching You Die. Fotografoval jsem v márnici pod kostelem sv. Jakuba v Brně. Autorem obalu desky Let the Earth Treble je Dawid Figielek, muž s úžasným pocitem tohoto apokalyptického podnebí. Věřím, že sociální média jsou dnes velmi důležitým prvkem. Bývaly dopisy, ale nyní máte kontakt s fanoušky prostřednictvím internetových portálů. Je to také skvělý způsob propagace vaší hudby. Internet nám v tom dává neomezené možnosti. Trik spočívá v schopnosti je používat.
Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you qand takés care about you?
Eng.
We really wanted our debut album to be released by Godz Ov War. In our opinion, it is the best underground label in Poland and we are very pleased with our cooperation. Greg will promote bands wherever he can. The deal between us is fair and the support that the label side is large. Talks about the release of our material by Godz Ov War began quite a long time ago, because of the first demo. Unfortunately, Greg wasn't interested in us at the time. At the next material we heard that if it was a full album, it would be released. Unfortunately, we were not able to make a full album back then. As they say, three times lucky.

Opravdu jsme chtěli, aby naše debutové album vydalo Godz Ov War. Podle našeho názoru se jedná o nejlepší undergroundovou značku v Polsku a naše spolupráce nás velmi potěšila. Greg bude propagovat kapelu, kdekoli bude moci. Dohoda mezi námi je spravedlivá a podpora, že strany labelu je velká. Rozhovory o vydání našeho materiálu Godz Ov War začaly už dávno, kvůli první ukázce. Greg o nás v té době bohužel neměl zájem. Při dalším materiálu jsme slyšeli, že kdyby se jednalo o celé album, bylo by vydáno. Tehdy se nám bohužel nepodařilo vytvořit celé album. Jak se říká, třikrát štěstí.
Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?
Eng.
I would definitely include Morbid Angel, Immolation, Deicide, Bolt Thrower, Vader or Hypnos among our idols. There are many bands that influenced us and if I had to mention them all it would probably be a good litany. But the ones I mentioned are death metal gods for us. To this you definitely need to add such black metal destroyers as Infernal War and Marduk.

Mezi naše idoly bych určitě zařadil Morbid Angel, Immolation, Deicide, Bolt Thrower, Vader a Hypnos. Existuje mnoho kapel, které nás ovlivnily, a kdybych je měl zmínit všechny, byla by to pravděpodobně dobrá litanie. Ale ty, které jsem zmínil, jsou pro nás death metaloví bohové. K tomu určitě musíte přidat takové black metalové ničitele jak Infernal War a Marduk.
Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?
Eng.
As I said before, we wanted the material to be released by Godz Ov War and we only sent our material to them. If, we couldn't get along, we would probably send the material to other labels, but luckily it didn't happen.

Jak jsem již řekl, chtěli jsme, aby byl materiál vydán Godz Ov War, a my jsme jim pouze poslali náš materiál. Pokud bychom spolu nevycházeli, pravděpodobně bychom materiál poslali jiným labelům, ale naštěstí se to nestalo.
How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
Eng.
I didn't count how many concerts we played. But there were several dozen of them. Unfortunately, due to our work and a few perturbations in life, we haven't had too many opportunities to play last year. We have had one festival so far, FOAD Fest in Krakow in 2019. We had a fate then, because our drummer had hernia surgery before the festival and we had to look for a replacement, and on the way to the festival the guys had a car bump. Luckily we got there and played a pretty good gig. My best memories are the concert in Warsaw in 2019. There was a nice mill under the stage and people were great too. It was a very good party.

Nepočítal jsem, kolik koncertů jsme odehráli. Ale bylo jich několik desítek. Bohužel kvůli naší práci a několika životním neštěstím jsme v poslední době neměli příliš mnoho příležitostí hrát. Doposud jsme měli jeden festival, FOAD Fest v Krakově v roce 2019. Měli jsme tehdy smůlu, protože náš bubeník měl před festivalem operaci kýly a museli jsme hledat náhradu a cestou na festival kluci měli bouračka v autě. Naštěstí jsme se tam dostali a odehráli docela dobrý koncert. Moje nejlepší vzpomínky jsou z akce ve Varšavě v roce 2019. Pod pódiem byl pěkný kotel a lidé byli také skvělí. Byla to velmi dobrá akce.
What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
Eng.
We do not treat the band as a company that must achieve specific goals. For now, we are focusing on promoting the full album, which is quite difficult in the current pandemic situation. At this point, we focused on making the next album. We already have an outline of the first songs and lyrics. We would definitely like to go and play some concerts with new material, because these songs are asking to be played live. We would also like to play outside Poland, there were already preliminary talks about concerts in the Czech Republic, but the current pandemic situation has destroyed everything.

Nezacházíme s kapelou jako se společností, která musí dosáhnout konkrétních cílů. Zatím se zaměřujeme na propagaci celého alba, což je v současné pandemické situaci dost obtížné. V tomto okamžiku jsme se zaměřili na vytvoření dalšího alba. Již máme přehled prvních písní a textů. Určitě bychom rádi cestovali a hráli nějaké koncerty s novým materiálem, protože tyto písně si žádají živé hraní. Rádi bychom hráli i mimo Polsko, o koncertech v České republice se již hovořilo, ale současná situace všechno posrala.
