Poslední dobou si připadám divnej, už když se ráno probudím. Cestou do práce spřádám temné pavučiny, v mrazivém tichu poslouchám hudbu, která většině lidí způsobuje zástavu srdce. Jsem poutník tmy, někdy smutný, naštvaný. Žiju ve stínu a poslouchám jen to, co se mi líbí. Snažím se psát o deskách, které jsou něčím zajímavé, jiné, odlišné, mají svůj vlastní ksicht. Třeba pražští VOLUPTAS jsou taky "divní". To je přesné první slovo, které mě napadlo. A proto jsem si jejich novinku "Towards the Great White Nothing" musel narvat pod tlakem do hlavy.
Hraje se tady syrový black metal norského střihu, vypalují se mozky, obracejí kříže, ale také se experimentuje, drtí se myšlenky, až máte chvílemi pocit, že se vám rozskočí hlava. Líbí se mi zvuk i obal, mám rád, když kapela odvede dobré řemeslo. Při několika prvních setkáních s nahrávkou jsem si připadal, že stojím po kolena ve studené stoce. Kolem běhají krysy a do mozku mi pánové zabodávají ostré hřeby. Hodně neklidné album, řekl bych. Tak je to správně.
Experimentovat se dá mnoha způsoby, často to bývá jen takové předvádění bez jakéhokoliv smyslu a směru. Na VOLUPTAS se mi od začátku líbí, že dokáží napsat dobré motivy, songy, které mají hlavu a patu a velmi dobře se poslouchají. Stylově lze desku přiřadit jak k norským smečkám (ULVER, VED BUENS ENDE, DODHEIMSGARD), tak i ke skupinám, které se zhlédli v psychedelii, jazzu i doomu (v několika momentech jsem zaslechl i odkaz na české ROOT). Kapela působí na "Towards the Great White Nothing" jistě, předané emoce na mě fungují, jsem rád v jejich společnosti. A to považte, v black metalu nejsem zrovna častým hostem. Jedinou lehce kritickou výtku bych měl k délce skladeb. Některé pasáže by možná zasloužily trošku zkrátit. Ale možná je to jen můj dojem. Jinak tu máme co dočinění s dospělým, temným, zuřivým i chladným, syrovým, přemýšlivým a inteligentně zahraným albem. Objevují se zde temná zákoutí lidské mysli. Hlavně si prosím, při poslechu neberte do ruky žiletku. Mohlo by se vám totiž stát, že brzy vykrvácíte. Depresivnější typy moc dobře ví, o čem píšu. Pokud si ráno, když se probudíte, připadáte divní a rádi se touláte v šerosvitu, je pro vás deska jako stvořená. Experimentální black doom metal s uhrančivou atmosférou! Budiž tma.

I've been feeling weird since I wake up in the morning. On the way to work, I spin dark cobwebs, listening to music in freezing silence, which causes most people to have a heart attack. I am a pilgrim of darkness, sometimes sad, angry. I live in the shadows and listen only to what I like. I try to write about records that are interesting in some way, different, have their own face. For example, Prague's VOLUPTAS are also "weird". That's the exact first word that came to my mind. And that's why I had to put their new album "Towards the Great White Nothing" in my head.
Raw black metal of Norwegian style is played here, brains are burned, crosses are turned over, but there is also experimentation, thoughts are crushed, until at times you feel that your head explode. I like the sound and the cover, I like it when the band does a good craft. During the first few encounters with the recording, I felt like I was kneeling in a cold drain. Rats run around and the gentlemen pierce my brain with sharp nails. Very restless album, I would say. That is how it should be.
You can experiment in many ways, often just a demonstration without any meaning and direction. At VOLUPTAS, I like from the beginning that they can write good motifs, songs that have a „head and a heel „ and are listenable. Stylistically, the record can be assigned to both Norwegian bands (ULVER, VED BUENS ENDE, DODHEIMSGARD) and bands that were seen in psychedelia, jazz and doom (in a few moments I also heard a link to the Czech ROOT). The band acts on "Towards the Great White Nothing" self-confidence, the emotions passed on me work well, I like their company. And consider it, I'm not exactly a frequent guest in black metal rivers. The only slightly critical complaint I would have about the length of the songs. Some passages might deserve to be shortened a bit. But maybe it's just my feeling. Otherwise, we're dealing with an adult, dark, furious and cold, raw, thoughtful and intelligently played album. Dark corners of the human mind appear here. Most importantly, please do not pick up the razor while listening. You could bleed soon. More depressed types of people know very well what I'm writing about. If you feel weird in the morning, when you wake up and like to wander in the gloom, the album is perfect for you. Experimental black doom metal with an enchanting atmosphere! Let‘s Darken!
