Zatloukám první hřeb do víka od rakve. Je plná shnilého masa, zkažené krve a prašivých kostí. Několikrát, přesněji třikrát, zemřu a třikrát se narodím. Je jasné, že takhle tomu má u staroškolského death metal být. Nad hřbitovem se vznáší z pavučin upletená mlha. Jsem zpátky v devadesátých letech a potkávám první nemrtvé. Smrtící hudbu vnímám hlavně přes emoce, pocity, má řezat, pálit a bolet. Musí vás strhnout do temnoty. Rovnou předesílám, že všechno tohle na své první demonahrávce SYMBTOMY umí.

Možná je to tím, že ji složil Dejvy (SECTESY, ex-DESPISE), možná chladným a plesnivým zvukem (HollySound Studio), možná i obalem (Jakub N. Rusek), možná hosty ((Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, JUST BEFORE DAWN, HENRY KANE...), Ralf Hauber (REVEL IN FLESH), Johan JANSSON (INTERMENT)), ale já u poslechu doslova cítím, že na mě sahá kostnatá ruka smrti. Jako bych potkal duchy starých švédských kapel (AMORPHIS, GOREMENT), kteří popíjejí s těmi finskými a britskými pochmurnými (doomové nálady jsou opravdu hmatatelné). Death metal je zde chvílemi i floridsky zemitý, syrový a surový, ale hlavně chladně melodický a slyším z něj zvláštní melancholii.

Tři hřeby do rakve, tři skladby, které v sobě mají spoustu nahrubo nasekané tmy a studených melodií. Jako když si o víkendu chcete udělat hezký večer se zaprášenými vinyly a kazetami. Na kazetě také DEMO#1 v limitované edici vychází. Je pro mě ozvěnou starých, ryzích a nostalgických časů, je pro mě obrazem v popraskaném zrcadle. Vždycky jsem si u kapel nejvíc cenil upřímnosti, vlastního rukopisu. Vždyť i pohřbívat se dá s elegancí. Jedna rakev vedle druhé, každá má na sobě nápis staré death metalové kapely. Ze všech si vzali SYMBTOMY kousek, některými se inspirovali a přidali vlastní melodický rukopis. Vytvořili pak trojici skladeb, které dávají naději do budoucna. Bude zase jednou co poslouchat při procházkách kolem hřbitovní zdi. Vnímám pach zatuchliny, shnilých těl. V márnici už zase někdo šramotí. DEMO#1 není jen dobře odvedeným řemeslem, ale je v něm navíc pověstná jiskra, drive a feeling, pradávná temná energie, kterou mívaly kapely ve starých časech. Toulám se podsvětím již nekonečně dlouho a myslím, že SYMBTOMY zde mají už teď zamluvené svoje místo. Hroby jsou otevřeny, stačí jen vstoupit!

I hammer the first nail into the coffin lid. It's full of rotten flesh, spoiled blood and dusty bones. Several times, more precisely three times, I will die and be born again. It is clear that this is how it should be with old school death metal. A woven fog of cobwebs floats above the cemetery. I'm back in the 1990s and I'm meeting the first undead. I perceive death metal music mainly through emotions, feelings, it should cut, burn and hurt. It must pull you into the darkness. I immediately point out that SYMBTOMY fulfilled all these mentioned stuff on their first demo.

Maybe it's because this record was composed by Dejvy (SECTESY, ex-DESPISE), maybe by cold and moldy sound (HollySound Studio), maybe by a cover art (Jakub N. Rusek), maybe by guests ((Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, JUST BEFORE DAWN, HENRY KANE ...), Ralf Hauber (REVEL IN FLESH), Johan JANSSON (INTERMENT)), but when I listen to it I literally feel that the bony hand of Death is reaching out for me. As if I would meet the spirits of old Swedish bands (AMORPHIS, GOREMENT) who drink with the Finnish and British gloomy ones (doomy moods are really tangible.) Death metal is sometimes Florida-like earthy, raw and brutal, but mostly coldly melodic and I hear a strange melancholy from it.

Three nails into a coffin, three songs that possess a lot of roughly chopped darkness and cold melodies. Like when you want to have a nice evening on the weekend with dusty LPs and cassettes. Actually, the limited-edition DEMO #1 is available on the cassette, too. For me, it is an echo of old, pure and nostalgic times, for me, it is an image in a cracked mirror. I've always appreciated the sincerity and own handwriting. After all, you can also bury with elegance. One coffin next to the other, each with the inscription of an old death metal band. SYMBTOMY took a bit of all of them, some of them inspired them and further, they added their own melodic handwriting. Then they created a trio of songs giving hope for the future. Once again, there will be something to listen to while walking around the cemetery wall. I can smell the stench of rotten bodies. Someone is rumbling in the morgue again. DEMO #1 is not only a well-done craft, but it also has the famous spark, drive and feeling, ancient dark energy that bands used to have in the old days. I have been wandering the underworld indefinitely for a long time and I think that SYMBTOMY already has its place here. The graves are open, just enter!
