Bílé larvy, tančící v hnijícím mase. Neskutečný zápach. Ticho a chlad. Tak takhle vypadá smrt? Sestupuji k bezvládnému tělu a snažím se pochopit, jak někdo mohl něco tak strašného udělat. Bože můj, ona ještě žije! Ne, to byla jen posmrtná křeč. Na oltáři, přikovaná, zubožená, bez krve a s bolestným výrazem ve tváři. Sestupuji dál, ještě hlouběji do podzemí a objevuji další. Desítky mrtvých. Slyším jejich nářek. Jak prosí o milost, jak se modlí. Jenže tahle Smrt nezná slitování, u této Smrti se rány nehojí.
Takhle má znít pravý, nefalšovaný, rezavý, poctivý death metal! MERCYLESS znám od jejich prvního alba "Abject Offerings" z roku 1992. Vyplatilo se zůstat věrným fanouškem. Francouzští veteráni mě letos rozhodně nezklamali. Předložili další porci syrové, shnilé smrti, která je opatřena skvělým prašivým zvukem i obalem. Při poslechu před sebou vidím bílé larvy, kroutící se ve shnilém mase.
MERCYLESS znovu obětují na starých hrobech podobným způsobem jako třeba takoví PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, MASSACRA, CANCER, LOUDBLAST, MORBID ANGEL, OBITUARY, SINISTER. Patří do stejné líhně a navíc mají (jak tomu dříve bývalo) svůj vlastní rukopis a výraz. Z "The Mother of All Plagues" cítím ještě víc temnoty a chladu než dříve. Francouzi působí jako prokletí, utržení ze řetězu. Museli trávit před nahráváním novinky dlouhé hodiny v katakombách. Songy mají přirozenou old school metalovou patinu, feeling, jsou ledové a mocné. Prosévám mezi prsty prach ze zpuchřelých kostí. Jsem tu správně, tohle je uvěřitelná smrt! Šílená ze své podstaty. Kapela působí zkušeně a zároveň svěže. Jako čerstvě vykopaný hrob, jako právě probíhající exhumace. Podepisuji vlastní krví, že nová deska je svým způsobem dokonalá. Pro nás, věrné fanoušky i pro všechny obdivovatele temných, propracovaných a drtících melodií určitě. Teď už to vím, jsem na správném místě. Hluboko pod zemí, v nekonečných chodbách podsvětí. Sem slepá víra nedosáhne. A červi mohou dál vykonávat svoji práci. Na dalším mrtvém těle, na kterém leží nová deska "The Mother of All Plagues". Absolutní kult!

This is how real, unadulterated, rusty, honest death metal should sound! I have known MERCYLESS since their first album "Abject Offerings" from 1992. It worth to stay a loyal fan. The French veterans certainly did not disappoint me this year. They presented another portion of raw, rotten death, which is great with a dusty sound and cover. While I listen in, front of me, I see white larvae squirming in rotten flesh
MERCYLESS sacrifices again on old graves in a similar way as PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, MASSACRA, CANCER, LOUDBLAST, MORBID ANGEL, OBITUARY, SINISTER. They belong to the same hatchery and, in addition, they have (as used to be) their own style and expression. From "The Mother of All Plagues" I feel even more darkness and coldness than before. The French act like a curse, torn from the chain. They had to spend long hours in the catacombs before recording the new album. The songs have a natural old school metal patina, feeling, they are icy and powerful. I sift the dust from the puffy bones between my fingers. I'm right here, this is a believable death! Crazy by nature. The band looks experienced and fresh at the same time. Like a freshly dug grave, like an ongoing exhumation. I sign with my own blood that the new record is perfect in a specific way. For us, loyal fans and for all admirers of dark, elaborate and crushing melodies for sure. Now I know, I'm in the right place. Deep underground, in the endless corridors of the underworld. Blind faith will not reach us. And worms can continue to do their job. On another dead body, on which lies the new album "The Mother of All Plagues". An absolute cult!
