Interview with death/black/doom metal band from Germany - INTO COFFIN.

Ave INTO COFFIN! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole INTO COFFIN history. 


- Hi Jakub, yeah right, you are the first! Into Coffin was born in 2015 from the mind of G. Inspired by classic Doom/Death bands we recorded our first demo during the same year. Until now we have furthermore recorded two albums, an EP and two splits (with Cenotafio and Devoid of Thought). 

On November 29, 2019 Terror from Hell Records released your new album "Unconquered Abysses". As the name suggests, it is again a whirlwind of honest black, doom and old death metal. When did you go out of studio, how did you feel? Introduce a little bit your new album to your fans. 

Unconquered Abysses was recorded live in December 2018 in our bunker. We then worked on the mixing and mastering process until July 2019 and finally in the end of November it was out! With this new album we travel even more in the darkness. Our sound has evolved towards a more extreme direction and our songs became more progressive and long. It's a continuation of our ideal to always give more to our fans with each record. Our sound is in constant evolution and we are really satisfied with this new record.. It represent our music at the best!


I really enjoyed a very raw and "mangy" sound on the new album. Where did you record and mix the album and who is signed under the production? 

Like I said before the album was recorded in our bunker. Recorded mixed and mastered by C.X. from (((CYPHX-AUDIO))). This was already the second time we've worked with him. Our first collaboration was the Astral Sacrifice split with Cenotafio. 

I am also interested about the cover of the album. If I understand it well, so it is a scene from an old occult book. Cover is hell, dark and mysterious like your new album. What does this idea mean? And who painted it? 

The album cover was drawn by Nox Fragor Art after a concept of G. 

The cover is the representation of the lyrics themes. Old Sumerian myths and archeoastrology are the main themes and of course ANUNNAKI and H.P. Lovecraft are always with us!


As a band, you are dealing with satanism, occultism, death, violence. What are the lyrics about on the new recording? What is the main theme and idea of "Unconquered Abysses"? 

Already answered in the last question. 

You play totally nihilistic death/doom black metal. This is exactly the kind of inferno that listeners really mess up their nerve and auditory canal. How did you get to this style? Did you pass as musicians other styles of music? Did you play in other bands? Who actually influenced you at the beginning? 

It was for sure an evolution. We had already played other styles of music before IC but in 2015 we started with classic death/doom influences from bands like Asphyx,Winter… and after we started to incorporate more and more Black elements and tried to create our sound. And yes, we play in many other projects, too.


The new album on CD, vinyl and cassette was released by Terror from Hell Records. The label has a very good name in the underground and it does a great job because people often hear about bands this label works with. Were you, as a band, satisfied with their work? 

Little correction: the Cassette version has been released by Seed of Doom. Terror from Hell is a great label - total dedication to the underground and old school vibes. We are really happy to be able to continue our journey in alliance with them.


How about INTO COFFIN and concerts? I looked online and I found out that you mostly play in underground clubs. Do people often go to old death/doom/black metal concerts i Germany? Do you want to support your album with a tour? If yes, do you want to play in the Czech Republic? 

Yes, every time we can! We really want to try to make a Europe tour happen in support of this new album and we'd be really happy to have the opportunity to play in Czech Republic! We are waiting for some offers. 

Nowadays, many people download music online and they only use its digital form. How do you feel about this as a musician? 

We feel really sad about it. We are all fans of vinyl and tapes and we love to collect them!


There are many young bands who try to ply the “old school death/doom/black metal”. Most of them are not really good, but we can find some good bands which understand what it is about. Do you know any bands which would be able to “bring back the old days”? 

There are many bands from Germany who put out great stuff at the moment. I think Graveyard Ghoul are absolutely one of the best new old school vibe bands that we have here. 

Are there any albums which have caught your attention recently? 

Yes – albums, EPs and demos (this year a lot)

I must confess I don’t know Czech Death metal bands (only Master?) but feel free to give us some recommendations!


What are INTO COFFIN ´s plans for the next few months? 

During the next months we will try to make some new live shows happen and we are actually already working on new material!
