Few questions – interview with death metal band from Sweden - KILLBRAIN.
Answered Marko.
Ave, can you introduce your band to
our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you
play , etc.?
Hi , Killbrain was founded 2013
when I (Marko) met Chris at work. (he was helping us out during the
high season at my workplace All in screen). I (Marko) knew he was a
musician , so I asked him if he was intressted in making some metal
just for fun. He said ok let see how it turns out. So we said we’re
going to record 3 songs like a EP, but it ended up in like 16-17
songs :).
When we started to record we just
simply started with a riff and then went on with another and so on
til the song was done. Then we wrote some lyrics down and Chris sang
them. So basically we made a whole song each time we met (like in 6-7
hours).
Where and under what conditions
were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound,
production and mastering?
We first started recording in
Meshuggah’s rehearsal studio (Chris was playing with Scarpoint at
the time and they also were rehersing there, so it was very
convinient for us). Later on we recorded the last songs at Chris home
(poor neighbours :)).
Since we were having fun we also
drank a lot of beer and whiskey wich wasen’t a benefit for the
guitarsounds (everything sounds awesome when your drunk :))
Some bass parts were recorded with guitar sound since we simply
forgot to change it! This is definitely not way we would do it today
, that’s for sure!
We used Cubase to record the songs
with plugins like ezdrummer2, ezmix2 etc. We mixed and mastered it
ourselves (like 4-5 times over, til we were fed up and said f**k it, let’s put it out).
How many copies were released and
which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl,
cassette)?
Since we released it our selves
using Distrokid, we don’t have any physical cd’s. Just Spotify,
Youtube, iTunes and several other stores and sites.
Who is the author of the lyrics and
how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
We both wrote the lyrics and wanted
it to be dark and gloomy. Things people could relate to when they‘re
feeling sad, angry, happy etc.
Who created the logo of the band,
and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and
social networks? Do you consider these things important?
I (Marko) made the logo and
albumcover (I work as a designer) I wanted the Killbrain logo to look
little oldschoolish, but still readable and the albumcover to
reflect the title of the album.
I had a vision pretty quickly of
how it should look. Chris came up with idea with Satan’s hand
holding the book, so I just put it in:).
I think it tourned out ok considering the time i put down, didn’t
want to overthink it. Made it in couple of hours and thought it would
look cool in grayscale and just red in few parts.
Which label did you choose for
releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how
your label represents you and takés care about you?
I got a recomendation from a friend
of mine that said they’re using Distrokid for their release. So I
checked it out and after 23h we had our album on Spotify! :)
Which bands do you idolise and
where do you get your inspiration?
We can’t really write down any
special bands, there are so many...Chris is not present as I’m
writing this so I can’t answer for him. But I’ve listened to
deathmetal since late 80ies, so Carcass is a huge influence for me
personally. But our music is a mix of what we like to play at the
moment we sit and record. It’s not like we trying to sound like any
other band, we just play what comes up in our heads there and then.
Did you send your record to some
Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?
No we haven’t. We are not
intrested in Label since we are project band with only 2 members.
How many gigs have you played?
Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals)
and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
None.
What about your plans for the
future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
We are going to record one more
album, starting as we speak. And we’re going to put it up on
Spotify etc., and hopefully people will like it.
How and where can your fans contact
you? Can you provide some contact information?
We have an e-mail adress
Killbrain666@gmail.com. We’ll answer as fast as we can.:)
