Few questions - WIRED ANXIETY

Interview with death metal band from India.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc. ?

Wired Anxiety comprises of Dheeraj Govindraju (vocals), Naval Katoch (guitar), Adwait Jadhav (bass), Sumeet Ninawe (drums) and Priyam Srivastava (manager/co-composer). The band started off in 2008 when we were just a bunch of high school boys trying to cover our favourite metal songs. Things got a bit serious later that year when we decided to compose originals and start playing local shows/competitions. We started off as a Groove/Heavy Metal band but soon turned evolved into Groove/Brutal Death Metal with the inclusion of our current drummer ‘Sumeet Ninawe’.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We began recording in September 2014 but we didn’t do it at a stretch because all the band members had a day job. As a result we got time to record it only on weekends and public holidays over the period of 5 months with the very dedicated and hard working recording engineer ‘Ashwin Shriyan’ from The Minerva Conduct / Demonic Resurrection. Then all the individual tracks were sent to ‘Arkady Navaho’ (Russia) for mixing and mastering. The decision was made long before we had started recording to lock down Arkady when we heard his work on Katalepsy’s album ‘Autopsychosis’. The process was very draining and tedious since I had to co-ordinate between Ashwin, Arkady and my band members with all those technical terms being thrown around but we finally got what we wanted and we are very satisfied and proud of our work. It was worth the effort and we can’t thank everyone enough for being involved in this process.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Vinyl and cassettes are out of question for us since it’s not feasible for us. Digital copies are available online and Kunal Choksi from Transcending Obscurity has made a few hundred physical copies which can be ordered online.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Lyrics have always been written by me (Dheeraj). I write about conspiracy theories by trying to turn them into fictional stories and I’ve also researched a lot on psychology to have a greater depth and express myself in a much better way. I love writing about psychological disorders and conspiracy theories and merging them and displaying how both of them are inter-related. Plus the idea that reality might just be a simulation has always fascinated since the time I’ve watched the movie ‘The Matrix’. So it’s all from different sources merged into one.

‘The Delirium Of Negation’ (which is known as Cotard’s Delusion) is a rare form of mental illness which pretty much gives away the whole concept of the album. If you read more about psychology stuff, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The EP has 2 perspectives: First one talks about how the humans that live today were built by a scientist hired by bunch of greedy corporates and are being kept in control for their needs. Second one talks from the perspective of those humans going through this and the psychological disorders that comes with it and questioning the reality that they are in.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

This is the second logo of the band and it was created by me (Dheeraj) way back in 2011. All the graphic and promotional posters are usually done by me since I am an Art Director. But in the case of album art we wanted it to be done by Coki Greenway (Indonesia) who has previously worked for lot of brutal bands like All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence, Aborted, Archspire etc. He has his own style and we thought that he would be best for the direction we are headed towards. We don’t have a website yet. In this day and age, social networking is the most important tool especially for budding musicians for spreading the word since most of the fans and audience are available there. We should thank the creators of internet and social networking sites. We mostly use our Facebook and Youtube accounts for promotional stuff and releases.

Which label did you choose for releasing  your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We are currently with Transcending Obscurity Distribution and Kunal Choksi is the man making all this possible for us. Right from Printing, packaging to distribution, promotions and everything in between. He has kept us alive in our dormant period. Thank you Kunal! Cheers

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Definitely it has to be all the death metal giants like Katalepsy, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus etc. who have successfully incorporated groove and death metal seamlessly into their songs which is what we pretty much do. For me as a vocalist I really look up to vocalists from Archspire, Deicide, Devourment, Cattle Decapitation etc for the style.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

I don’t think we ever approached a label but there was one that approached us called ‘Obscure Musick’ from USA. They loved the songs very much but the deal didn’t work out since we were planning to release an EP and not a full length so we had to drop the plans.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We have played tons of gigs all around India, we don’t even have the count, played a good amount of some reputed fests. For us, the best gigs would be indoor gigs since the energy is all trapped under one roof and fans reciprocate the best to it. Our best gigs have always been in our hometown Navi Mumbai because we have some pretty mad following there, they are always excited to see us on stage and it’s just a giant weekend party for us. Horns up to the Navi Mumbai metalheads for always being up for the party, we love you guys.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

As of now we are all in different parts of the globe but we are in touch with each other constantly to promote our latest release and discussing plans for our next release. The latest discussions have a lot to do with coming up with a very unique style and sound for our next release. It all seems good and we are trying our best to make things happen. It’s a very difficult time for us as a band since we are all looking to settle in a good position in life so that when we start working on the next one it would work out a lot easier especially financially since we have to beat our own current effort. It’s gonna take a lot to achieve that but we are gonna do it anyway.
