Ave,
can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded
and what style of music do you play , etc. ?
Desolator is: Stefan (vocals, guitars),
Joakim (vocals, guitars), Jonas (bass, additional vocals) and Victor
(drums). We started playing in 2009. Our first demo „Gravefeast“
was an old school demo that sounded like typical swedish style death
metal. After releasing some more stuff we grew more technical and
american in style. Our new release „Spawn of Misanthropy“ sounds
more like Immolation and Morbid Angel than anything else.

Where
and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was
in charge of sound, production and mastering?
The vocals, guitars and bass were
recorded in our friend’s studio Forlorn Halls. Drums were recorded
in One Path Studio. The eminent Teddy Möller from BlueFlame
Productions mixed and mastered it. Song from „Spawn of
Misanthropy“: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EED0SanJj2k
How
many copies were released and which medium was used for this new
edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?
We
printed 100 CD’s that you can buy from the band, if they run out we
will produce more. „Spawn of Misanthropy“ will also be available
for free at our Bandcamp, http://desolatorsweden.bandcamp.com/.
Who
is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what
do the lyrics deal with ?
The lyrics are split 50/50 between me
(Stefan) and the bass player Jonas. I mostly write about negative
aspects of current humanity and society, and Jonas writes more about
horror, history, anti-religion, war and such topics.
Who
created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and
the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider
these things important?
The
logo was made by our friend Johan Nilsson, and the graphics for
„Spawn of Misanthropy“ were done by Luciferium War Graphics.
We’re very happy with both and the imagery is something we do care
about. We want the graphics to depict our music. For instance, the
cover image for the new release is related to the song „The
Faceless God“.
Which
label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label?
Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care
about you?
„Spawn of Misanthropy“ is self
released, but we are looking for a label to release a future full
length album. If anyone from a label finds our EP interesting, don’t
hesitate to get in touch with us at desolatorswe@hotmail.com
Which
bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?
Our early influences were Dismember and
Entombed, and our newer material draws inspiration from a different
set of bands. Immolation, Morbid Angel and Blood Red Throne have been
big influences for the riffs, but we in the band listen to pretty
diverse music, which likely shows in the dynamics of the songs. Some
of the more atmospheric moments on „Spawn of Misanthropy“ owe
more to bands like Katatonia, Opeth and Amorphis than typical death
metal bands.
Did
you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was
the response?
We only tried to contact our old label,
who didn’t seem that interested in releasing the EP. After that we
decided to release it ourselves, to draw attention from labels for a
future full length album.
How
many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether
it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you
consider as the best?
It’s hard to give an exact number but
I think we probably played live around 20 times. It depends a lot on
how crazy the audience go. Personally, I think our gig at Matanza
Festival in Mallorca, Spain was the coolest. The spanish guys went
nuts for our music and most of them didn’t even hear Desolator
before the gig! We’ve also had a few very sweaty tight club gigs in
Stockholm where people started moshing and stagediving. It gives
incredible energy on stage when the audience goes crazy like that.

What
about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the
band?
Boring answer, but there is no
particular plan except to keep writing and releasing music that we
like. I would love to get on some smaller european festival bills,
like Party San Open Air or Protzen Open Air. It’s probably not an
impossible goals since quite a few bands from the Swedish underground
play on those. If you want us to play, book us! We love playing live.
