Few questions - interview with LECTERN
Can you introduce your band to our readers? When was it founded and which style of music do you play?
Fabio Bava "If you didn't realize, you are reading a Lectern interview. We come from Italy, exactly from the capital well known as fucking Rome. We are around since 1999 as a death metal oufit, and released four records".
Pietro Sabato "Our band was formed in 1999 by Fabio Bava, and the band started playing death metal. I love playing brutal technical death metal. Bands which have given me many many ideas are Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus".
Where and under which conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?
Fabio Bava "We had no planned time to record, but we did all in less than twenty days. The songs of Fratricidal Conelebration were nine, recorded at The Outer Sound Studios by Giuseppe Orlando who provided the sound engineering cutely".
Pietro Sabato "We recorded in Rome the latest album of the band by Giuseppe Orlando".
Pietro Sabato "We recorded in Rome the latest album of the band by Giuseppe Orlando".
How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition?
Fabio Bava "Four thousand, as we consider the first and the second press, with different artworks for censorship. physical cd could be bought, digital download and we are on every platform from Spotify to You Tube and on every social media, except Instagram and other shit! We appreciate channels like television, clips, webzines, press and tuner broadcasting. Also to be on Facebook could be useful, if you think how many people can write us. These days we got in touch to play in the United States in West Virginia and in Argentina. We are full of interviews and promotion right now, as it goes with highs and lows".
Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?
Fabio Bava "I wrote the lyrics. The topic is and always will be, Satan! We are creators of hellish atmosphere, attitude and whatever it concerns that".
Pietro Sabato "The author of the lyrics is our singer Fabio Bava. The lyrical themes are obviously Satanic".
Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?
Fabio Bava "Christophe Szpajdel made the logo as for other well famous bands. Francesco Tacconi is our photographer and he also manages our layouts. The new artwork, after censorship, was made by Rudi Yanto well known for extreme metal coverarts. We were looking for something cool, and we founded in his work! Simply great! It attracts the fans to buy our stuff, if we have an awesome illustration on the frontsleeve, it would be easier. Who buys a record with a shitty image on the front? Websites and merchandise are important too, and I always take care of updating all of them as for the socials. I don't like them too much, they are too invavsive of our private sphere. I hate those who are always with their eyes glued at thei mobile or computer! Fuck this shit and live your real life and not always in that goddamn virtuality! Look around yourselves, you stupids!".
Marco Valentine "Not everyone in the band pays lot of attention to social medias. I consider it one of the most important things nowadays. The right instrument to spread our art, communicate our messages to the fans, news, and of course, keep our image in constant contact with those who follow us. We should care more this aspect, I think".
Pietro Sabato "Our logo was created by the same person who created Emperor's. Our sites are managed by ourselves".
Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takes care about you?
Fabio Bava "Sliptrick Records released our new album. They could even do better to advertise us worldwide as they were the only, who made a real offer for our band. Others spoke only rumours!".
Pietro Sabato "We chose Sliptrick Records. Yes, I am happy because it is a label that has believed in our project and in us and then, also because they printed the cd and paid half of the recordings in the studio".
Which bands do you idolize and where do you get your inspiration?
Fabio Bava "I've always thought that early Deicide on the first four records were awesome, as now is useless they go on: they could not reach or never repeat what they did between 1990 and 1997 as the top of their history. They always impressed me too much in death metal more than Morbid Angel often, even if I adore old Slayer, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Malice, Sanctuary and so on. As you can see very different stuff, like the hair metal scene with Skid Row, Poison, Ratt and Warrant as many pointed at them as fags or useless acts. Well, as I don't think so, they were very skilled musicians. Sting, The Police, Genesis, Phil Collins and the pop rock of the Eighties like Pink Floyd or Dire Straits and Yes is also a genre that makes my day yet".
Did you send your record to some labels and who are those? How was the response?
Fabio Bava "For being professional, I cannot list names. They were so much, and Sliptrick Records was the only one who was interested and offered us a deal, also for our next future".
Pietro Sabato "We sent to Nuclear Blast, Relapse and Century Media but we had no answer instead, there were some others, but not really affected unto us".
How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether in clubs or festivals and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
Fabio Bava "As I cannot say that we are a live band, we played quite a lot. Personally, I like both situations, the adrenaline I have before every gig is always enourmous. I like to consider my bands made of four stage animals!".
Marco Valentine "Almost ten gigs since I'm in the band. I prefer clubs because they are more intimate situations with the audience. Infact I consider my best gig, our first with this line up two years ago in Finland at Prkl Club."
Pietro Sabato "We played some concerts between these periods and local festivals. Obviously I prefer festivals which are open air as I like to think, that there is very good people to follow technical and brutal death metal riffs yeah".
What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?
Fabio Bava "The next record will be basic, so it's now our focus, within all the tours before entering the studio. I have the right vibe with our new tracks. If we'll achieve more audience playing everywhere and much more, it will be the first step to become important in the death metal scene".
Marco Valentine "We aim to do as many live shows as we can. A little tour is confermed for April and we are still working hard on writing new material for the next album".
Pietro Sabato "Now our project is to finish the new album and play much as possible".
How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?
Fabio Bava "Get in touch through mail or Facebook, for merchandise visit Big Cartel online store".
Pietro Sabato "You can contact us at any time! We have Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and aeverything. We do not lack of anything and everybody in the band has their own twist on Facebook too, so do not hesitate to contact us!".
