Slunce pálí a vzduch je těžký. Mám písek v očích a duny se přede mnou převalují jako špinavá voda v řece. Zatím netuším, kdy odejdu na druhou stranu, zatím nevím, kdy spadnou mraky k zemi. Zvedá se vítr. Nastal můj čas. Zase se jednou loučím se světem a vstupuji do nekonečné země stínů. S novou deskou amerických maniaků NILE. Ti mají za ty dlouhé roky svůj vlastní nezaměnitelný rukopis. Poznáte je podle několika prvních tónů a pokaždé to bývá zajímavý výlet do Hádovy říše. 

Novinka pokračuje v tom, co umí NILE nejlépe. V natlakovaném brutálním, technickém death metalu, letos zazní i thrash metalové vlivy. A samozřejmě, spousta progresivním pasáží, které máme my, fanoušci tolik rádi. Již po několika prvních setkáních působí Američané ve velmi dobré formě. Jakoby je někdo polil mrtvou vodou. 


Znovu se otevírají staré hroby, opět z nich vylézají děsivě vypadající zombie. Také cítíte ten pach ze záhrobí? Já ano, i když třeba zvuk bych si dovedl představit lehce špinavější, temnější. Každopádně, pánové stále mají takové množství nápadů, že dokáží udržet moji pozornost. Nikde zbytečně nepreludují, útočí napřímo. Nekompromisně a surově. Mocné nástupy, hrobový vokál, zničující a skvěle zahrané bicí a samozřejmě riffy a melodie, které v sobě mají obrovskou porci energie. Nejvíc se mi potom NILE líbí v momentech, kdy trošku zvolní a nechají vyniknout egyptské motivy. Je v tom určitá majestátnost, která ve mě opravdu evokuje návštěvu pyramid. Kapela by mohla díky svému jménu ustrnout ve vývoji a stejně by ji měli fanoušci rádi. Nestalo se tak, novinka "The Underworld Awaits Us All" je pestrá, neklidná, záhadná a praskají u ní kosti. Svět se možná mění, ale historie zůstává. Je dobře, že jsou stále kapely, které umí vytáhnout její temnou stránku na povrch. Možná mě jednou také pohřbí v sarkofágu. Vyndají mi vnitřnosti a bude mě hlídat sfinga. Než se tak ale stane, budu dál poslouchat tohle album. Má v sobě totiž vše, co mám na téhle kapele rád. Silné motivy, pradávnou energii z temných chodeb podsvětí a schopnost mě vyvrhnout zaživa. Jasně, produkce je na mě možná až příliš umělá, ale dokážu to kapele "odpustit". Slunce totiž pálí a vzduch je těžký. Mám písek v očích a duny se přede mnou převalují jako špinavá voda v řece. Zvedá se vítr. Nastal můj čas. Zase se jednou loučím se světem a vstupuji do nekonečné země stínů. Mocný a surový, technický brutální death metal, který otevírá brány do podsvětí! Bůh temnoty a zemřelých Anubis se usmívá!

The sun is scorching and the air is heavy. I have sand in my eyes and the dunes roll in front of me like dirty water in a river. I don't know yet when I'll go to the other side, I don't know yet when the clouds will fall to the ground. The wind is picking up. My time has come. I say goodbye to the world once more and enter the endless land of shadows. With the new album from American maniacs NILE. They've had their own unmistakable signature over the years. You can recognize them by the first few notes and it's always an interesting trip to Hades. 

This new release continues what NILE does best. In the pressurized brutal, technical death metal, this year you can also hear thrash metal influences. And of course, plenty of the progressive passages we fans love so much. Already after the first few meetings the Americans seem to be in very good shape. It's as if someone poured dead water on them. 


The old graves open up again, with scary-looking zombies crawling out again. Can you smell the stench from the dead, too? I do, although I could imagine a slightly dirtier, darker sound. Anyway, the gentlemen still have enough ideas to keep my attention. They don't preach unnecessarily, they attack directly. Uncompromising and brutal. Powerful build-ups, sepulchral vocals, devastating and well played drums and of course riffs and melodies that have a huge amount of energy in them. I like NILE the most then in the moments when they slow down a bit and let the Egyptian motifs stand out. There's a certain majesty to it that really evokes a visit to the pyramids for me. The band could stagnate in their development due to their name and still be loved by fans. It didn't happen, the new track "The Underworld Awaits Us All" is colorful, unsettling, mysterious, and bone cracking. The world may be changing, but the history remains. It's a good thing there are still bands that can bring out its dark side. Maybe one day they'll bury me in a sarcophagus too. They'll take out my guts and I'll be guarded by a sphinx. But until that happens, I'll keep listening to this album. It's got everything I love about this band. Strong themes, ancient energy from the dark corridors of the underworld and the ability to eviscerate me alive. Sure, the production may be a little too artificial for me, but I can "forgive" the band for that. Because the sun burns and the air is heavy. I've got sand in my eyes and the dunes roll in front of me like dirty water in a river. The wind picks up. My time has come. I say goodbye to the world once more and enter the endless land of shadows. Powerful and raw, technical brutal death metal that opens the gates to the underworld! The god of darkness and the dead, Anubis, is smiling!

Ten pohled vydržel málokdo. Skoro každý si myslel, že navštěvovat stará, opuštěná místa je velké dobrodružství. Většinou tomu tak bývalo. Jenže tentokrát je všechno zcela jinak. Už jenom rezavé dveře, které šly ztěžka otevřít, byly umazané od krve. Když se nám konečně povedlo vstoupit dovnitř, spatřili jsme něco, co překonávalo jakékoliv noční můry. Těla zohavená a zinscenovaná v podivných pozicích. Morbidní umění, strach a beznaděj. Někteří ještě trošku žili. A prosili nás, abychom je zabili.

Šokuje vás to? Tak potom novou desku finských maniaků CONCRETE WINDS neposlouchejte. Ta totiž také není pro slabé povahy. Naopak, smrdí jako kus zkaženého masa, jako práchnivějící kosti, které se brzy rozpadnou v prach. Vítejte na starodávných death grind metalových jatkách!


Pozorný čtenář ví, že se téhle smečce u nás na stránkách věnujeme od jejich úplných počátků. Důkazem budiž recenze, které jsou odkazovány dole pod článkem. Pánové jsou letos ve velmi dobré formě. Jsou jako šelmy na lovu. Také cítíte to napětí? Já ano. Z každé skladby, z každého tónu. Účelem je vás zničit, roztrhat na kusy, rozemlít na prach. Nutno rovnou dodat, že se to těmto maniakům daří na výbornou. Pokud jste fanoušky třeba takových TERRORRIZER, REPULSION, MORBID ANGEL, NECROVORE a pokud rádi překračujete hranice extrémní hudby, potom jste zde správně. Skladby v sobě mají potřebný tlak i drive, jsou ušpiněné vztekem a nenávistí. O zvuk se postaral Lawrence Mackrory, který odvedl opravdu perfektní práci. Hlavní jsou ale nápady, kterých je opravdu velké množství. Z reproduktorů se na vás vyhrne smršť. Tsunami riffů a divoká kakofonie bicích. Možná se zpočátku budete ztrácet a slabší povahy dokonce opravdu dostanou strach, ale dejte téhle smečce čas. Vše se postupně usadí, stejně jako krev, která stéká pomalu dolů. Dostanete poctivou, reálnou a uvěřitelnou porci nahrubo nasekané tmy, zla a totálního nihilismu. Jak jsem psal v úvodu dnešní recenze, stačí jenom otevřít starou rezavou bránu a ocitnete se na místech, které se vám pomocí hudby vypálí do hlavy jako cejch. Vše je náležitě nechutné, bolestivé, hnusné a surové. "Concrete Winds" je albem, které si vás hlukově podmaní, dostane se vám do hlavy, do vašeho podvědomí. Budete mít děsivé noční můry, kterých se už nikdy nezbavíte. Jako tohoto alba! Surový, mokvající death grind metal ze starých jatek, který vám vyrve všechny vnitřnosti z těla! Trepanace lebky!

Few could stand the sight. Almost everyone thought that visiting old, abandoned places was a great adventure. Most of the time, it was. But this time, things are very different. Just the rusty door, which was hard to open, was stained with blood. When we finally managed to get inside, we saw something beyond any nightmare. Bodies mutilated and staged in strange positions. Morbid art, fear and despair. Some of them were still alive. And they begged us to kill them.

Does that shock you? Then don't listen to the new album by Finnish maniacs CONCRETE WINDS. Because it's not for the faint of heart either. On the contrary, it smells like a piece of rotten meat, like rotting bones that will soon crumble into dust. Welcome to the ancient death grind metal slaughterhouse!


The attentive reader knows that we have been dedicated to this pack since their very beginning. The proof is the reviews that are linked below the article. The gentlemen are in very good form this year. They are like beasts on the hunt. Can you feel the tension? I do. Every song, every note. The purpose is to destroy you, to tear you apart, to grind you into dust. I must say, these maniacs are doing it perfectly. If you are a fan of such bands as TERRORRIZER, REPULSION, MORBID ANGEL, NECROVORE, and if you like to cross the boundaries of extreme music, then you are right here. The tracks have the necessary pressure and drive, they are stained with anger and hate. The sound is handled by Lawrence Mackrory, who has done a really perfect job. But the main thing is the ideas, of which there are a really great number. You'll get a whirlwind from the speakers. A tsunami of riffs and a wild cacophony of drums. You might get lost at first and weaker natures might even get really scared, but give this pack time. Everything will gradually settle down, just like the blood that trickles slowly down. You'll get an honest, real and believable serving of rough-hewn darkness, evil and total nihilism. As I wrote in the opening of today's review, all you have to do is open the rusty old gate and you'll find yourself in a place that burns itself into your head like a brand through the music. Everything is appropriately disgusting, painful, ugly and raw. "Concrete Winds" is an album that noisily conquers you, gets into your head, into your subconscious. You will have terrifying nightmares that you will never get rid of. Like this album! Raw, pissing death grind metal from the old abattoir that will rip your guts out! Trepanation of the skull!

Měli jsme kdysi dávno, na konci osmdesátých let, staršího kamaráda, který nám pouštěl hororové filmy. My jsme doma VHS přehrávač nikdy neměli a tak jsem se musel pokaždé v noci vracet temným městem. Byl jsem na začátku puberty a děsil jsem se každého stínu. Představoval jsem si šílená monstra, která mi půjdou každou chvíli po krku. Tenhle kamarád, dej mu pánbůh i satan věčný klid, nám také pouštěl metal. Může za to, že jsem se kdysi dávno, v dobách muchlajících kazet, potkal i kapelu DECEASED. Seděli jsme tenkrát před reproduktory a hltali každý tón, každou notu.

Jsou věci, které se nemění, je na ně spolehnutí, jsou pevným záchytným bodem ve vesmíru, které potřebuji, abych v dnešním světě přežil. Na tuhle smečku je spolehnutí. Letos, skoro čtyřicet let po svém vzniku, spoustou skvělých alb i nezapomenutelném koncertě v roce 2014 v Praze, tihle gentlemani přicházejí s novinkou, která je metalovým hororovým opusem. Vyhrabejte tedy ve sklepě staré kazety, oprašte džínovou bundu a nechte se unášet do světa, kde krev teče proudem a všichni jsou ještě víc narušení, než v realitě. 


Na téhle smečce se mi vždy líbilo (a trvá to dosud) jak si umí hrát s melodiemi, jak umně kombinují prašivý death metal, ostrý thrash a heavy melodie dohromady. Výsledkem bývá vždy velmi jedovatý koktejl, s takovým tím záhadným, neklidným efektem, na který má tahle kapela patent. Když jsem "Children of the Morgue" jednomu svému starému kamarádovi, řekl jediné - ty vole, chtěl bych být v takové formě jako oni! Vlastně bych nemusel psát nic dalšího, protože jeho slova plně vystihují to, co si o novince myslím i já. Nicméně, skladby jsou velmi působivé, a to i přesto, že jsou dlouhé. Vůbec to nevadí, pořád se v nich něco děje, různě gradují, děsí, DECEASED si hrají s pochmurnými nápady jako šílený patolog se svým skalpelem. Určitě jste někdy viděli fotky z přelomu minulého tisíciletí, kdy se rodiče fotili se svými zemřelými dětmi. Pokaždé, když tohle album poslouchám, tak si na ně vzpomenu. Jakoby přede mnou ožívaly, naříkaly a křičely do ticha. Možná jsme už všichni staří psi, někdy už přemýšlíme nad tím, co bude, až tady nebudeme, ale dokud budou vznikat podobné nahrávky, má smysl tuhle hudbu poslouchat. To vám klidně podepíšu vlastní krví. A není v tím jenom velký kus nostalgie. Američané opět dokazují, že nepatří do starého železa a znovu nakopávají zadek všem, včetně mojí maličkosti. Deska má navíc takový ten starý, plesnivý zvuk, spoustu hororových vsuvek a celkově působí přesně tak, jak si představuji muziku, kterou budu zase poslouchat několik let stále dokola. Jsme zkrátka jedné krve, já i kapela a jinak tomu už nebude. Možná ze mě bude jednou stařec, co křičí na mraky, ale i tak budu "Children of the Morgue" všem doporučovat. Navíc, mě děti v hororech děsily vždy nejvíc. Nevinnosti spojená s krvelačností, uff. Děsivé, mrazivé death, thrash,heavy metalové ozvěny z toho nejhlubšího podzemí! Nářek nemrtvých!

We used to have an older friend back in the late 80s who used to show us horror movies. We never had a VHS player at home, so I had to walk back through the dark city every night. I was in my early teens and I was terrified of every shadow. I imagined crazy monsters coming for me at any moment. This friend of mine, God and Satan grant him eternal peace, also played metal for us. It may be that I also met the band DECEASED a long time ago, back in the days of making out tapes. We sat in front of the speakers back then and devoured every note, every note.

There are some things that don't change, they are relied upon, they are a solid clue in the universe that I need to survive in today's world. This pack is reliable. This year, almost forty years after their formation, a slew of great albums and an unforgettable 2014 concert in Prague, these gentlemen come up with a new metal horror opus. So dig out the old cassettes in the basement, dust off your denim jacket and let yourself drift into a world where blood flows and everyone is even more disturbed than in reality. 


What I've always liked about this pack (and still do) is how they can play with melodies, how skillfully they combine dusty death metal, sharp thrash and heavy melodies together. The result is always a very poisonous cocktail, with that mysterious, restless effect that this band has a patent for. When I played "Children of the Morgue" to an old friend of mine, he said one thing - dude, I wish I was in the same shape as them! Actually, I don't need to write anything else, because his words fully describe what I think about the new album. However, the songs are very impressive, even though they are long. It doesn't matter at all, there's always something going on, they graduate in different ways, they scare, DECEASED play with gloomy ideas like a mad pathologist with his scalpel. I'm sure you've seen the photos from the turn of the last millennium of parents taking pictures with their deceased children. Every time I listen to this album, I think of them. They seem to come alive in front of me, wailing and screaming into the silence. Maybe we're all old dogs now, sometimes wondering what will happen when we're not here, but as long as records like this are being made, it makes sense to listen to this music. I'll sign that in my own blood. And it's not just a big piece of nostalgia. The Americans are proving once again that they don't belong to the old iron and are kicking everybody's ass again, including my little one. The record also has that old, musty sound, lots of horror interludes and overall it feels exactly like the kind of music I imagine I'll be listening to over and over again for years to come. We are simply of the same blood, me and the band, and it won't be any other way. I may be an old man screaming at clouds one day, but I'll still recommend "Children of the Morgue" to everyone. Plus, kids have always scared me the most in horror movies. Innocence combined with gore, ugh. Eerie, freezing death, thrash, heavy metal echoes from the deepest underground! The wail of the undead!

Vždycky jsem věděl, že se tam ukrývá něco zlého a ošklivého. Míval jsem divný pocit, když jsem chodil kolem černých močálů kousek za naším městem. Slyšel jsem spoustu děsivých příběhů, legend i vzpomínek, které byly zahalené do studené krvavé mlhy. Staří vyprávěli o utopených, o ztracených, o prokletých. Někdy jsem zahlédl tichý stín, postavu bez tváře, jak se vznáší nad smradlavou stokou. Zrovna jsem poslouchal kanadské GUTVOID a všechno se mi spojilo v jeden morbidní zážitek. Jakoby na mě čekala tajemná příšera, jako bych byl součástí noční můry, která není z našeho světa. 

Někdy na mě působí nahrávky bolestivě, naléhavě, syrově. U kanadských tmářů GUTVOID to platí na sto procent. Pánové hrají death metal se zvláštní, podmanivou atmosférou. Ve svých textech se potom zaobírají světem H. P. Lovercrafta, fantasy i science fiction. Novinku vnímám jako zprávy z míst, do kterých nechcete vstoupit. Z temného vesmíru, z hlubokého podzemí. 


Při poslechu opravdu vidím mokvající bažiny. Na hladině pluje ohlodaná mrtvola. Stalo se něco děsivého, šíleného. Všechno se to otisklo i do nové desky "Breathing Obelisk". Skladby jsou velmi propracované, líbí se mi, jak si kapela hraje s náladami. Jednou působí divoce a surově, jindy zase melancholicky a chladně. Každý motiv je jiný, zajímavý, neotřelý. Jedná se spíše o obřad, který musíte vnímat nejen sluchem, ale i celým svým srdcem. Alespoň takhle to funguje u mě, starého metalového psa. Líbí se mi atmosféra celého alba, v pořádku jsou i formální věci, jako zvuk a obal. Mohu se tak plně soustředit na jednotlivá zákoutí, na nuance, které samozřejmě vždy vyniknou až po delší době poslechu. Hodně často jsem si brával album do lesa. Vlastně ani nevím proč, dělal jsem to vždy tak nějak samozřejmě. Ve stínu starých stromů, v opuštěných rozvalinách nebo kousek od již zmiňovaného močálu, kde vynikla síla téhle desky nejvíce. Pánové jsou sice ovlivněni starým, klasickým death metalem, ale na jeho základech staví pestré a zajímavé konstrukce. Nebojí se popustit uzdu své fantazii, někdy působí jako neuchopitelný vítr, jako řeka, která se převaluje neklidně kupředu. GUTVOID na to jdou zkrátka trošku jinak, než ostatní, mají svůj výraz a ksicht. Fanoušci třeba takových DEMILICH, BLOOD INCANTATION, TOMB MOLD, CHTHE’ILIST, budou určitě spokojeni. A nejen oni. Tahle nahrávka je určena pro všechny, kterým se líbí, když je hudba dokáže roztrhat na kusy. Chladný, divoký, syrový death metal z močálů nicoty! Děsivé ozvěny z hlubin vesmíru!

I always knew there was something bad and ugly hiding in there. I used to get a strange feeling walking around the black swamps just outside our town. I'd heard many terrifying stories, legends and memories that were shrouded in a cold, bloody mist. The old ones told of the drowned, the lost, the damned. Sometimes I would see a silent shadow, a faceless figure hovering over a stinking sewer. I was listening to Canadian GUTVOID and it all came together in one morbid experience. It was like a mysterious monster was waiting for me, like I was part of a nightmare that was not of our world. 

Sometimes the recordings have a painful, urgent, raw effect on me. With Canadian darkies GUTVOID this is 100% true. The gentlemen play death metal with a strange, captivating atmosphere. In their lyrics they deal with the world of H. P. Lovercraft, fantasy and science fiction. I see the new release as news from places you don't want to enter. From the dark universe, from the deep underground. 

I can really see the swamps getting wet when I listen. There's a gnawed corpse floating on the surface. Something terrible, crazy has happened. It's all in the new "Breathing Obelisk" record. The songs are very sophisticated, I like the way the band plays with moods. Sometimes they are wild and raw, other times melancholic and cold. Each motif is different, interesting, novel. It is more of a ritual that you have to feel not only with your ears, but also with your whole heart. At least that's how it works for me, an old metal dog. I like the atmosphere of the whole album, even the formal things like the sound and the cover are fine. So I can fully concentrate on the individual corners, on the nuances, which of course always stand out after a longer listening time. I used to take the album into the woods a lot. I don't really know why, I always did it kind of naturally. In the shade of old trees, in abandoned ruins or a little bit away from the aforementioned swamp, where the strength of this album stood out the most. The gentlemen are influenced by old, classic death metal, but they build colorful and interesting constructions on its foundations. They are not afraid to let their imagination run wild, sometimes acting like an elusive wind, like a river that rolls restlessly forward. GUTVOID simply go about it a little differently than others, they have their own expression and face. Fans of DEMILICH, BLOOD INCANTATION, TOMB MOLD, CHTHE'ILIST, for example, will definitely be satisfied. And not only them. This record is for everyone who likes it when music can tear them apart. Cold, wild, raw death metal from the swamps of nothingness! Terrifying echoes from the depths of space!

U nás nemáme žádnou činnou sopku. Byl jsem proto velmi překvapený, když jsem seděl jen tak u stolu, popíjel pivo a přišlo první varování. Lidi zachvátila panika, jak už tomu v podobných situacích bývá. Kdysi dávno tu prý láva zničila celou vesnici. Zůstal jsem velmi dlouho. Fascinoval mě dým, vyvěrající odněkud z hlubin země. Cítil jsem chvění, vibrace, neklid, které zavládly kolem. Uvědomil jsem si, jak nás má příroda stále ve své moci, jak jsme jen malou součástí něčeho velikého.

PHENOCRYST je kapela z Portugalska, která se podobnými věcmi zaobírá. Schválně si prostudujte texty jejich letošního dlouhohrajícího debutu. Na death metal se jedná poměrně o netypické téma a zde je opravdu zajímavě zpracované. Síla, nespoutanost, i určitá doomová nálada a majestátnost právě činné sopky se promítla i do jejich hudby. 


Portugalci stavějí na pevných, tradičních a klasických death metalových základech, jak je známe třeba u BOLT THROWER. Přidávají ale kus sebe samých, vlastní nápady a invence. Kdysi zahrané motivy nadále rozvíjejí a stavějí na nich kompozice, které musí ocenit nejen každý fanoušek žánru. Na "Cremation Pyre" se mi asi nejvíc líbí, že je to album, na kterém se stále něco děje. Skladby jsou někdy surové, bolestivé, jindy chladné a podmanivé. V některých momentech až psychedelické, jestli mi rozumíte. Nová deska je velmi dobře zvukově ošetřena a zaujme i stylový obal. Líbí se mi náboj, drive, odhodlání i opravdovost, které z nahrávky cítím. Je to vlastně hrozně jednoduché. PHENOCRYST stvořili dílo, které se velmi dobře poslouchá, je doslova návykové a zároveň neklidné, svým způsobem progresivní. Já mám opravdu pocit, že stojím na kraji lesa, jen kousek od vesnice, kterou se valí jako děsivá apokalypsa žhavá láva. Mám vždy rád, když je hudba uvěřitelná, reálná, když se mi dostane postupně do mozku a pamatuji si ji. A to se mi právě stalo s tímto albem. Bývám v případě debutujících kapel občas trošku skeptický, ale tentokrát jsem velmi překvapen. A to jenom v pozitivním slova smyslu. Kývám se spokojeně do rytmu, došlo u mě ke vzájemnému přenosu mezi mojí maličkostí a kapelou. Podepisuji vlastní krví, že cestu téhle smečky budu i nadále sledovat. Pokud jste pravověrní fanoušci death metalu, tak vám doporučuji to samé. Jejich hudba má v sobě totiž něco přitažlivého, magického. Temný a chladný death metal, který v sobě obsahuje velké množství surové energie! Láva, která vás spálí na popel!

We don't have an active volcano here. So I was very surprised when I was sitting at the table, drinking a beer, and the first warning came. People panicked, as they do in situations like this. A long time ago, they say lava destroyed a whole village here. I stayed for a very long time. I was fascinated by the smoke rising from somewhere deep in the earth. I could feel the trembling, the vibrations, the restlessness around me. I realized how nature still has us in her power, how we are just a small part of something big.

PHENOCRYST is a band from Portugal that deals with similar things. Check out the lyrics of their debut full-length this year. For death metal it is a rather untypical topic and here it is really interestingly treated. The power, unbridledness, and a certain doom mood and majesty of the currently active volcano is reflected in their music. 


The Portuguese build on solid, traditional and classic death metal foundations, as we know them for example from BOLT THROWER. But they add a piece of themselves, their own ideas and inventiveness. They continue to develop the once played motifs and build on them compositions that must be appreciated not only by every fan of the genre. Probably what I like most about "Cremation Pyre" is that it's an album where there's always something going on. The songs are sometimes raw and painful, other times cold and captivating. At some points, psychedelic, if you know what I mean. The new album is very well treated sonically and the stylish cover artwork is also impressive. I like the drive, determination and sincerity I feel from the record. It's actually terribly simple. PHENOCRYST have created a work that is very easy to listen to, literally addictive and restless at the same time, progressive in a way. I really feel like I'm standing on the edge of a forest, just a short distance from a village, with hot lava rolling through it like a terrifying apocalypse. I always like when music is believable, real, when it gets into my brain gradually and I remember it. And that's what happened to me with this album. I tend to be a little skeptical sometimes with debut bands, but this time I'm very surprised. And only in a positive way. I'm swaying contentedly to the beat, there's been a mutual transfer between my little self and the band. I sign with my own blood that I will continue to follow the path of this pack. If you are a true death metal fan, I recommend you do the same. There is something appealing, magical about their music. Dark and cold death metal that contains a lot of raw energy! Lava that will burn you to ashes!

Padá na mě tíseň ze současného podivného světa a tak zase jednou volám Satanovi, jestli pro mě nemá nějakou dobrou hudbu. Jenže on stále sedí na svém trůnu a věřící maj absolutní smůlu. Poradím si tedy jako vždycky sám. Nepotřebuji žádné rady a za ty roky, co extrémní muziku poslouchám, tak si pečlivě vybírám, co si narvu do hlavy a o čem budu psát. LAID TO WASTE sleduji od jejich počátků a i když tahle smečka netrpí nadprodukcí, tak každé jejich vydané album rozhodně stojí za to. 

Seděl jsem takhle doma a četl si. Píše mi Michal Kafe, který je nejen vydavatelem a šéfem mini labelu Coffegrinder, ale také mým kamarádem. Trošku mě naštval, že mě vyrušil, ale nedalo mi to. Novinku "Trauma" jsem si poslechl ještě ten večer a byla pro mě bleskem z čistého nebe. Většinou prvotní nadšení trošku vyprchá, ale to se zde nestalo. Už jenom ten masivní, řezající a dobře čitelný zvuk (Honza Kapák - recording, mastering), už jenom ten jedovatý vokál, který všemu vévodí jako postava, sedící na obalu. Vše sedí perfektně na svých místech. 


To by ale bylo málo. V dnešní době nadprodukce se nakonec stejně vždy oddělí zrno od plev a nic na tom nezmění ani masivní promo na sociálních sítích. LAID TO WASTE vždy měli svůj vlastní rukopis. Stále velice umně a elegantně koketují i s heavy metalem. Nově přibylo více progresivnějších, technických pasáží, které mě osobně dělají tak dobře, že jsem se od nahrávky nemohl odtrhnout. Chodil jsem ulicemi, jezdil autem, četl si, pracoval jsem a ve všech situacích na mě novinka působila a drtila mě. Jasně, hudební kritik nebo nedej bože někdo, kdo tuhle hudbu neposlouchá, může namítnout, že tu už všechno bylo. Jenže přátelé, hlavní je vždycky celkový dojem, nálady, atmosféra. A tihle maniaci dodávají pestrý a velmi propracovaný materiál, který nejen, že se dobře poslouchá, ale navíc má v sobě něco neklidného, přitažlivého. Za zmínku stojí i texty, které působí velmi poeticky. Zkrátka a dobře, každá skladba má jasný, zřetelný motiv, který si zapamatujete, zaryje se vám do mozku i do podvědomí. Píšu a doporučuji už dávno opravdu jenom desky, které mě baví poslouchat a podporovat a u "Trauma" není moc co řešit. Pokud máš rád ostrý, pestrobarevný thrash metal, nebojíš se lehkých experimentů a pořád si rebel bez příčiny, tak neváhej ani chvilku. Nahrávka by se mohla líbit jak starým psům, jako jsem já, tak i mladým, kteří si rádi rozšiřují svoje obzory a mají alespoň určitou dávku fantazie. Říkám to pořád, více než 35 let. Pokud sedíš u reproduktorů a začneš si podupávat nohou a mlátit hlavou o zeď, potom je album dobré. Padá na mě tíseň ze současného podivného světa a tak zase jednou volám Satanovi, jestli pro mě nemá nějakou dobrou hudbu. Konečně to zvedne, zasměje se svým nezaměnitelným smíchem a řekne jedno slovo: "Trauma". Ostré, divoké, podmanivé a neklidné album, po okraj narvané surovými, propracovanými melodiemi! Thrash metal par excellence!

The weight of the present strange world falls on me, and so I call Satan once again to see if he has any good music for me. But he's still on his throne and the faithful are out of luck. So I'll do as I always do. I don't need any advice, and in all the years I've been listening to extreme music, I choose carefully what I put in my head and what I write about. I've been following LAID TO WASTE since their early days and while this pack doesn't suffer from overproduction, every album they release is definitely worth it. 

I've been sitting at home reading like this. Michal Kafe writes me, who is not only the publisher and head of the mini label Coffegrinder, but also my friend. I was a bit annoyed that he disturbed me, but I didn't let it get to me. I listened to the new album "Trauma" that evening and it was a bolt from the blue. Usually the initial enthusiasm wears off a bit, but that didn't happen here. Just the massive, cutting and clear sound (Honza Kapák - recording, mastering), just the venomous vocal that dominates everything like a figure sitting on the cover. Everything fits perfectly in its place. 

 

That wouldn't be enough. In these times of overproduction, the wheat is always separated from the chaff in the end, and even a massive social media promotion won't change that. LAID TO WASTE have always had their own signature. They still flirt with heavy metal in an elegant way. Newly added are more progressive, technical passages that make me personally so good that I couldn't tear myself away from the record. I walked the streets, drove the car, read, worked, and in all situations the novelty affected and crushed me. Sure, a music critic or God forbid someone who doesn't listen to this music might argue that it's all been here before. But friends, the main thing is always the overall impression, the mood, the atmosphere. And these maniacs deliver varied and very sophisticated material that is not only good to listen to, but also has something restless, appealing about it. Also worth mentioning are the lyrics, which have a very poetic feel. In short, each song has a clear, distinct motif that you will remember, it will stick in your brain and subconscious. I've really only been writing and recommending records that I enjoy listening to and supporting for a long time now, and with "Trauma" there's not much to go on. If you like edgy, colorful thrash metal, aren't afraid of light experimentation, and still rebel without a cause, then don't hesitate a moment. The record might appeal to old dogs like me, as well as young ones who like to expand their horizons and have at least a certain amount of imagination. I've been saying this all along, for over 35 years. If you sit at the speakers and start stomping your foot and banging your head against the wall, then the album is good. The weight of today's strange world falls on me, and so once again I call out to Satan to see if he has any good music for me. He finally picks up, laughs his unmistakable laugh and says one word: "Trauma". A sharp, fierce, captivating and restless album, packed to the brim with raw, sophisticated melodies! Thrash metal par excellence!

Někdy bývám překvapený, odkud se zlo objeví. Jakoby vyvěrala z lidského podvědomí. Někteří z nás působí navenek jako dokonalost sama. Krásní a chladní. Jenže uvnitř se ukrývá zkažený hnis. Někdy to lze poznat na očích, jindy ani to ne. Kolik sklepů je ukryto ve tmě, kolik se v nich ukrývá bolesti? Ze stěn stéká zkažená a smradlavá voda. Black metal se dá hrát různými způsoby, ale debutové album portugalských WORMTHRONE jakoby ani nebylo z našeho světa. Muselo být nahráváno na druhé straně, za oponou, v záhrobí. Je v něm otištěno totální zlo, špína a nenávist.

To vše samozřejmě zabalené v masivním, chladném a surovém zvuku. S obalem, který připomíná starodávného démona stojícího ve stínu. Čeká na svoji oběť. Dodejme ještě, že kapela je složena se samých zkušených muzikantů, kteří působí ve smečkách jako ENTHRONED, LUCIFYRE, FLAGELLUM DEI, THY BLACK BLOOD a dalších. Znáte práci mistra bubeníka Menthor? Tak asi víte, s kým máte tu čest. O kvalitu je zde postaráno po všech stránkách. Nejen on opět odvedl skvělou morbidní práci. 


Nejsou to ale jenom formální věci, které jsou v absolutním pořádku. Pro mě osobně je vždy nejdůležitější atmosféra, nálady, které během poslechu létají kolem. Zde máme co do činění s absolutním zlem, s nihilismem, s antihumánním útokem na lidskou podstatu. Dívám se zase jednou do tmy a moc dobře vím, že mě sledují rudé, žhnoucí oči. Ano, při poslechu téhle desky lze potkat samotného Satana. Sedí na svém trůnu a usmívá se. Hraje se tu hlavně pro něj, pro všechny démony i prokleté. Jako bych byl najednou v hlubokém středověku, několik pater v podzemí a vyslýchali mě ve studené kobce. Jsem odsouzený za černou magii, kterou stejně jako kapela, provozuji pouze za jediným účelem. Chci zničit vše dobré, chci, aby vaše mysl byla nasáklá zkaženou krví. Také slyšíte nářek nevinných? WORMTHRONE mají svůj jasný, rozpoznatelný a svým způsobem originální rukopis. Do kostí se mi pomalu dostal chlad a začal jsem se lekat světla. Mumlal jsem slova v jazycích, kterými již dávno nikdo nemluví. Kreslil jsem šílené symboly, rozdrásal jsem si obličej. Troufám si tvrdit, vím to, jsem si s tím absolutně jistý, že "Enlightened Through Darkness" je vynikající nahrávkou po všech stránkách. Má v sobě zvláštní neklid, je perfektně zahraná i složená. Pokud, stejně jako já, trávíte rádi svůj čas ve stínu, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Jedná se doslova o povinnost nejen pro fanoušky žánru. Někdy bývám překvapený, odkud se zlo objeví. Jakoby vyvěrala z lidského podvědomí. Ze stěn stéká zkažená a smradlavá voda. Surový, temný a chladný black metal, který vás roztrhá zevnitř a navěky prokleje! Divoká krutost z hlubin podzemí!

Sometimes I'm surprised where evil comes from. It's like it springs from the human subconscious. Some of us appear outwardly as perfection itself. Beautiful and cold. But inside, there's rotten pus. Sometimes you can see it in our eyes, sometimes not even that. How many basements are hidden in the dark, how much pain is there? There's rotten, stinking water running down the walls. Black metal can be played in many different ways, but the debut album of Portugal's WORMTHRONE seems to be not even from our world. It must have been recorded on the other side, behind the curtain, in the afterlife. It is full of total evil, filth and hatred.

All wrapped in a massive, cold and raw sound, of course. With a cover that resembles an ancient demon standing in the shadows. Waiting for its victim. Let's add that the band is made up of all experienced musicians who have worked in packs like ENTHRONED, LUCIFYRE, FLAGELLUM DEI, THY BLACK BLOOD and others. Are you familiar with the work of master drummer Menthor? Then you probably know who you're dealing with. Quality is taken care of here in every aspect. Not only he did a great morbid job again. 


But it's not just the formal things that are in absolute order. For me personally, the most important thing is always the atmosphere, the moods that fly around while listening. Here we are dealing with absolute evil, with nihilism, with an anti-human attack on human nature. I look once again into the darkness and I know very well that red, glowing eyes are watching me. Yes, listening to this record one can meet Satan himself. He sits on his throne and smiles. It's played for him, for all demons and the damned. It's like I'm suddenly in the deep Middle Ages, several floors underground, being interrogated in a cold dungeon. I'm condemned for black magic, which, like the band, I practice for one purpose only. I want to destroy all that is good, I want your minds to be soaked in corrupted blood. Do you also hear the cries of the innocent? WORMTHRONE have their own clear, recognizable and original signature. A chill slowly crept into my bones and I became frightened of the light. I mumbled words in languages no one speaks anymore. I drew crazy symbols, I scratched my face. I dare say, I know it, I am absolutely sure of it, that "Enlightened Through Darkness" is an excellent record in every way. It has a strange restlessness about it, it is perfectly played and composed. If, like me, you like to spend your time in the shadows, don't hesitate a moment. This is literally a must for fans of the genre and beyond. Sometimes I'm surprised where evil comes from. It seems to spring from the human subconscious. Corrupt and stinking water drips from the walls. Raw, dark and cold black metal that will tear you up from the inside and curse you forever! Savage cruelty from the depths of the underground!

U některých hostin jsem zpočátku ostýchavý. Nevím, co mám ochutnat nejdříve. Některé pochoutky, které všem chutnají, tak mi příliš nevoní. Mám raději jednoduchá jídla, jasná a zřetelná. S hudbou to mívám velmi podobně. Jenže občas dostanu chuť na něco nového, neotřelého, zajímavého. Většinou si sednu, prohledám databázi novinek, které přišly na recenzi a vyberu si něco, co mě zaujme. S EVILYN to bylo zpočátku těžké. Nemohl jsem se do skladeb dostat, nebavily mě a několikrát jsem jejich debutové album odložil.

Raději jsem si chvíli četl, díval se na filmy. Přesto ve mě cosi hlodalo a musel jsem se k nahrávce vrátit. Jako bych chytil nějaký vir. Vůbec jsem zpočátku nevěděl, že v kapele působí zkušení muzikanti jako Alex Weber (Malignancy, Exist, Obscura - live, Anthony Lipari (Thoren) a Robin Stone (Norse). Vlastně ani nevím, kdy poprvé došlo ke vzájemnému přenosu a začala se mi deska líbit. Možná to bylo jedné deštivé noci, když byly mraky nízko a vypadalo to, že každou chvíli spadnou na zem. 


Nové album je volně inspirované tím, co hrají kapely typu MORBID ANGEL, DISCHORDIA, MAERE, COMA CLUSTER VOID, GORGUTS, SAEVUS FINIS. Rozhodně se jedná o nahrávku, která osloví spíše hudební gurmány, všechny ty maniaky, kteří ještě stále rádi objevují, mají bohatou fantazii a dokážou překousnout počáteční složitost skladeb. Po formální stránce se vše povedlo na výbornou. Zvuk (Mixed and mastered by Jeanne Comateuse) i obal (Artwork by Jeanne Comateuse (Coma Cluster Void)) jsou na velmi vysoké úrovni a vy se tak můžete plně soustředit na jednotlivé skladby. V některých momentech mi přijde album možná až příliš rozvláčné, ale moji připomínku berte s nadhledem. Desku je nutné poslouchat v kuse, v klidu a s plným soustředěním. Teprve potom vyniknou jednotlivé pasáže i odstíny. Zkrátka a dobře, hraje se tu technicky, disonantně, divoce, těžce a překvapivě. Každý song je samostatným opusem, temnou a chladnou symfonií. Nahrávka ale drží pohromadě i jako celek, je kompaktní a návyková. Je sice pravdou, že na podobné desky musím mít chuť a náladu, ale když už nastanou, tak rád volím "Mondestrunken". Jakoby tahle hudba ani nebyla z našeho světa, ale odněkud z vesmíru, ovlivněná civilizacemi, které jsou na tom technicky i mentálně lépe, než náš druh. EVILYN se představili ve velmi dobré formě a nahráli album, které rozhodně stojí za pozornost. A teď už mě prosím nechte, musím jít zase ochutnávat. Avantgardní, technický, disonantní death metal z jiných sfér!

I'm shy at first at some of the feasts. I don't know what to taste first. Some delicacies that everyone likes don't smell too good to me. I prefer simple dishes, clear and distinct. I'm very similar with music. But sometimes I get a craving for something new, novel, interesting. Usually I sit down, search the database of new releases that have come up for review and pick something that catches my eye. With EVILYN, it was hard at first. I couldn't get into the songs, I wasn't enjoying them, and I put their debut album on hold a few times.

I preferred to read for a while, watch movies. Still, something was gnawing at me and I had to go back to the record. It was like I'd caught a virus. I didn't know at first that the band had experienced musicians like Alex Weber (Malignancy, Exist, Obscura - live, Anthony Lipari (Thoren) and Robin Stone (Norse). Actually, I don't even know when the mutual transfer first happened and I started to like the record. Maybe it was one rainy night when the clouds were low and it looked like they were going to fall to the ground at any moment. 


The new album is loosely inspired by bands like MORBID ANGEL, DISCHORDIA, MAERE, COMA CLUSTER VOID, GORGUTS, SAEVUS FINIS. It is definitely a record that will appeal more to music gourmets, all those maniacs who still like to explore, have a rich imagination and can get over the initial complexity of the songs. Formally, everything has been done to perfection. Both the sound (Mixed and mastered by Jeanne Comateuse) and the artwork (Artwork by Jeanne Comateuse (Coma Cluster Void)) are of a very high standard, so you can fully concentrate on the individual tracks. In some moments I find the album perhaps too wordy, but take my comment with a grain of salt. The album should be listened to in one piece, quietly and with full concentration. Only then will the individual passages and shades stand out. In short, the playing here is technical, dissonant, fierce, heavy and surprising. Each song is an opus in its own right, a dark and cool symphony. But the record holds together as a whole as well, compact and addictive. It's true that I have to be in the mood for a record like this, but when the mood strikes, I like to choose "Mondestrunken". It's as if this music isn't even from our world, but from somewhere in the universe, influenced by civilizations that are technically and mentally better off than our species. EVILYN presented themselves in a very good form and recorded an album that is definitely worth your attention. Now please leave me alone, I have to go back to tasting. Avant-garde, technical, dissonant death metal from other realms!

O existenci tohoto monstra jsem netušil vůbec nic. Byl jsem překvapen, když jsem poprvé viděl ve tmě jeho žhnoucí oči, jeho krvelačný pohled. Hluboko v podzemí, pod kdysi činnou sopkou, mezi ohlodanými kostmi. Kdysi silná bestie se uložila k dlouhému spánku, aby se  letos znovu probudila. Máte rádi thrash metal? Smrtící kov? Líbí se vám Kaijū filmy? Pokud odpovídáte ano, potom jste zde správně.

Americká kapela OXYGEN DESTROYER se totiž těmito záležitostmi zaobírá. A dělá to velmi elegantně a zkušeně. Můžete si užívat masivní a zničující zvuk (Noah Buchanan - mixing mastering, Charlie Koryn - recording), můžete se podívat na černobílý stylový obal (Shoggoth Kinetics), který se také velmi povedl. Ale hlavně! Můžete si užít hudbu, která vás roztrhá na kusy. 


Když nové album "Guardian of the Universe" poslouchám, tak se opravdu cítím jako starý archeolog, který právě objevil děsivé monstrum v hlubinách. Američané se volně inspirovali kapelami jako VADER, MORBID SAINT, DEMOLITION HAMMER, SODOM, KREATOR, SOLSTICE, MALEVOLENT CREATION. Skladby v sobě mají tolik důležitý drive a sílu, třaskavou směs, kterou máme všichni u tohoto stylu tolik rádi. Je to jízda od začátku do konce, divoká a směřuje rovnou do pekla. Nebo do dávno opuštěných chodeb podzemí, ve kterých se právě probouzí děsivé monstrum. Jedná se o třetí dlouhohrající nahrávku v řadě a troufám si tvrdit, že také nejlepší. Kapele se povedlo umíchat koktejl, který je chladný, temný a je v něm spousta i tolik potřebného vzteku. Je to vlastně jednoduché. Novinku jsem si několikrát poslechl a potom se k ní často a rád vracel. Pokaždé, když jsem si potřeboval vyčistit hlavu od zbytečností dnešního světa, vždy, když mě něco naštvalo. Nejdřív jsem podupával jen tak nohou, kýval se do rytmu, abych nakonec řádil, jako po úrazu elektrickým proudem. OXYGEN DESTROYER mě rozemleli na prach, strhli do víru, pohřbili zaživa. Podobné smečky budou hrát z reproduktorů, až nás zničí jaderné bomby, až nastane apokalypsa. Přežijí jenom silní a odolní jedinci a tahle hudba. Nelze jinak, než vám novou desku doporučit. O existenci tohoto monstra jsem netušil vůbec nic. Byl jsem překvapen, když jsem poprvé viděl ve tmě jeho žhnoucí oči, jeho krvelačný pohled. When I listen to the new album "Guardian of the Universe" I really feel like an old archaeologist who has just discovered a terrifying monster in the deep. The Americans were loosely inspired by bands like VADER, MORBID SAINT, DEMOLITION HAMMER, SODOM, KREATOR, SOLSTICE, MALEVOLENT CREATION. The songs have that all-important drive and power, the crackling blend we all love so much about this style. It's a ride from start to finish, wild and heading straight to hell. Or into the long-abandoned corridors of the underground, where a terrifying monster is just waking up. This is the third long-playing record in a row and, I dare say, the best. The band has managed to mix a cocktail that is cold, dark and there is plenty of much needed anger in it as well. It's actually quite simple. I listened to the new album a few times and then returned to it often and happily. Every time I needed to clear my head of the uselessness of today's world, every time something made me angry. At first I would just stomp my foot, swaying to the beat, only to finally go on a rampage, like an electrocution. OXYGEN DESTROYER ground me to dust, pulled me into a whirlpool, buried me alive. Similar packs will play from the speakers when the nuclear bombs destroy us, when the apocalypse comes. Only the strong and the resilient will survive, and this music.
