Byl jsem jako on. Už dlouhé roky trávím na starých hřbitovech. Jsem stínem, který se mihne v mlze, když se pohřbívá do země. Znám příběhy všech zemřelých. Některé převádím na druhou stranu. Jsem ghúlem, bytostí z jiného světa. Pro některé zrůdou, pro jiné děsivým svědomím. Existují kapely, které se mnou dokáží rozmlouvat. Legendární švédští death metalisté SARCASM patří mezi ně. Letos přicházejí se svojí pátou dlouhohrající deskou. Je opět velmi chladná, temná, záhadná. Je po okraj narvaná melodiemi, které rozdrásají vaši duši do krve.

Není žádným tajemstvím, že jsem velkým fanouškem téhle smečky. Důkazem budiž recenze a rozhovor, které jsou odkazovány dole pod článkem. Líbí se mi, že i letos se kapela vyvíjí, mění, že dokáže zaujmout. Základem je stále severský kov smrti, ale přidávány jsou další a další prvky extrémního metalu. A to velmi vkusně a elegantně. Vychutnat si tak můžete až doomové pasáže, kousky black metalu a nebál bych se napsat i progresivity. Výsledkem je velmi chutný koktejl, který když pozřete, tak budete moci rozmlouvat se mnou, starým ghúlem, i se samotnou smrtí. 


Letošní album "Mourninghoul" je mocné, majestátní, ale i velmi záhadné a tajemné. Jakoby bylo celé zahalené do černé mlhy, kterou všichni známe právě ze starých pohřebišť. Procházejí se v ní přízraky. Myslím si, že by se jim novinka téhle kapely mohla také líbit. Mohu vám podepsat vlastní krví, že pro fanoušky (a nejen pro ně) téhle kapely bylo učiněno absolutně vše. SARCASM jsou originální, mají svůj jasně rozpoznatelný rukopis. Stačí několik prvních tónů a ihned vím, o koho se jedná. S novou deskou jsem spokojený ale i po formální stránce. Pod velmi povedeným obalem je podepsán Armaada ART. Co se týká zvuku, tak je velmi chladný, křišťálově bolestivý a ihned se vám zadře pod kůži (Lawrence Mackrory - mixing, mastering). Měl bych napsat i nějakou kritiku, jenže mě žádná nenapadá. Vypadá to, že jsme si i nadále s kapelou souzeni. Je i mým osudem. Nejvíce se mi osvědčil poslech velmi brzy ráno, když ještě slunce čekalo na svoji cestu. Chodívám kolem hřbitova. Pokaždé jsem měl pocit, že u jedné staré hrobky sedí pradávná příšera. Její oči žhnuly do tmy a šeptala zvrácená slova a o smrti, bolesti a utrpení. Moje fantazie pracuje na sto procent. Jdu spolu s ghúlem na vysokou horu, vznášíme se v oblacích, sledujeme stále bloudící lidský rod. Padáme nakonec do hlubiny, abychom se roztříštili na tisíc kousků. Je to pro mě důkaz, potvrzení, že se nové album opravdu povedlo. Má v sobě totiž absolutně vše, co od dobrých nahrávek požaduji. Jasný směr, spoustu skvělých nápadů i podmanivou atmosféru plnou tmy a chladu. Jsem jako on. Už dlouhé roky trávím na starých hřbitovech. Jsem stínem, který se mihne v mlze, když se pohřbívá do země. Pro některé zrůdou, pro jiné děsivým svědomím. Majestátní, mocný severský death metal, který vás převede na druhou stranu, do země nekonečných stínů! Temnota a chlad!

I was like him. I've spent years in old cemeteries. I'm the shadow that flickers in the mist when he buries himself in the ground. I know the stories of all the dead. Some of them I'm bringing to the other side. I am a ghoul, a being from another world. To some a monster, to others a terrifying conscience. There are bands that can talk to me. Legendary Swedish death metallers SARCASM are one of them. This year they come with their fifth full-length album. It is again very cold, dark, mysterious. It's packed to the brim with melodies that will rip your soul to blood.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of this pack. For proof, check out the review and interview linked at the bottom of the article. I love that even this year the band is evolving, changing, and managing to impress. The base is still Nordic death metal, but more and more elements of extreme metal are added. And in a very tasteful and elegant way. So you can enjoy up to doom passages, bits of black metal and I wouldn't be afraid to write even progressiveness. The result is a very tasty cocktail, which if you watch, you will be able to talk to me, an old ghoul, and to death itself. 



This year's album "Mourninghoul" is powerful, majestic, but also very mysterious and enigmatic. It's as if it's all shrouded in the black fog we all know from old burial grounds. Ghosts walk in it. I think they might like this band's new stuff too. I can sign with my own blood that absolutely everything has been done for the fans (and not only for them) of this band. SARCASM are original, they have their clearly recognizable signature. Just the first few notes and I immediately know who they are. But I'm also satisfied with the new album from a formal point of view. The very nice cover art is signed by Armaada ART. As for the sound, it is very cold, crystal painful and immediately gets under your skin (Lawrence Mackrory - mixing, mastering). I should write some criticism, but I can't think of any. It seems that we are still on the same page with the band. It's my destiny too. The most useful for me was listening very early in the morning, when the sun was still waiting for its way. I walk by the cemetery. I always had the feeling that there was an ancient monster sitting by an old tomb. Its eyes glowed in the dark and it whispered twisted words about death, pain and suffering. My imagination is working 100%. I walk with the ghoul up a high mountain, floating in the clouds, watching the ever-wandering human race. Eventually we fall into the depths, only to shatter into a thousand pieces. It's a proof for me, a confirmation that the new album has really done well. It has absolutely everything I demand from a good record. A clear direction, lots of great ideas and a captivating atmosphere full of darkness and coldness. I'm like him. I've spent years in old graveyards. I'm the shadow that flickers in the fog as he buries himself in the ground. I know the stories of all the dead. Some of them I'm bringing to the other side. I am a ghoul, a being from another world. To some a monster, to others a terrifying conscience. Majestic, powerful Nordic death metal that takes you to the other side, to the land of endless shadows! Darkness and coldness!

Vždycky ses rád díval. Na spící dívky v cizích domech. Nevěděly o tobě. Měl si je ve své moci. Začalo to už kdysi dávno. Tvoje matka nepatřila k nejhodnějším. Trápila tě a nenechala nikdy vyspat. Zvykl sis. Začal si žít v noci. Stával si ve stínu a sledovat spokojené životy ostatních. Kdyby jen věděli. Vždycky sis vzal něco na památku. Do své sbírky. A zůstávala po tobě pokaždé dlouhá krvavá stopa. 

Francouzští maniaci BENIGHTED jsou zpět, aby nás opět vzali na děsivý výlet do temných zákoutí lidské mysli. Pánové znovu přinášejí pořádnou porci na kost ohlodaných melodií, šílených zážitků a hudby, která každému fanouškovi extrémní muziky pronikne hluboko do mozku. Už nikdy nebudete takoví jako dřív. Během poslechu nové desky začnete hnít zaživa!


Jak asi víte, tak francouzským brutal death grind core šílencům se věnujeme u nás na stránkách dlouhodobě. Vždy se mi líbilo, jakým způsobem postupně posouvají hranice agresivity v hudbě. Viděl jsem je i několikrát na živém vystoupení a fascinovala mě neskutečná změna, jakou pánové pokaždé procházeli. Mezi lidmi vstřícní, pohodoví a milí kluci, na pódiu divoká zvířata. BENIGHTED mají dar ve vás probudit ty nejhorší démony. Vytáhnout na povrch děsivá svědectví a morbidní představy, kterých je schopen člověk. Letos se opět pohybují mezi totálně zničujícími nářezy, u kterých si budete chtít vystřelit mozek z hlavy a chladnými, temnými a krvavými pasážemi, které vás ale budou děsit úplně stejně. Jestliže jsou některé kapely přirovnávány k hororům, ve kterých stříká krev všude kolem, francouzští patologové lidských myslí na to jdou přeci jenom trošku jinak. Dostávají se pod povrch, do podvědomí. Za pomocí ostrých riffů, masakrujících bicích i jako vždy skvělého a charakteristického vokálu Juliena Truchana. Při poslechu "Ekbom" budete mít opravdu syndrom neklidných nohou. Je prostým faktem, že se mi nové album opět dostalo nejen do hlavy, když jsem vzhůru, ale i do snů. Budil jsem se uprostřed noci, jakoby někdo stál v mém pokoji a sledoval mě. Užíval jsem si surový zvuk, jednotlivé výpady, panické ataky, všechnu špínu, která zase vyplavala na povrch. Dost často jsem si také vzpomněl na jeden černobílý dokument, ve kterém patologové otevřeli mozek pacienta. Měl uvnitř parazity, hladové červy, kteří se kroutily v podivných rytmech. Nebožák ještě žil. Tak přesně takhle se cítím, když poslouchám tuhle desku. BENIGHTED mají svůj nezaměnitelný styl, který nadále zdokonalují. Výborná nahrávka! Brutální, grindová noční můra, při které vyplavou na povrch ty nejzvrácenější myšlenky! Znepokojivý, neklidný pád do propasti lidské mysli!

As you probably know, we have been covering French brutal death grind core madmen for a long time. I've always liked the way they gradually push the boundaries of aggression in music. I've seen them live a few times as well, and I was fascinated by the incredible change the gentlemen went through each time. Friendly, easy-going and nice guys amongst the people, wild animals on stage. BENIGHTED have the gift to bring out the worst demons in you. To bring to the surface the horrifying testimonies and morbid imaginings that man is capable of. This year, they again move between totally devastating blasts that will make you want to blow your brains out and cold, dark and bloody passages that will scare you just the same. If some bands are likened to horror movies with blood spraying everywhere, French human pathologists go about it a little differently. They get below the surface, into the subconscious. With the help of sharp riffs, butchering drums and Julien Truchan's great and characteristic vocals as always. Listening to "Ekbom" will really give you restless leg syndrome. It's a simple fact that the new album has once again gotten not only into my head when I'm awake, but also into my dreams. I would wake up in the middle of the night, as if someone was standing in my room watching me. I enjoyed the raw sound, the individual lunges, the panic attacks, all the dirt that surfaced again. Quite often I also remembered a black and white documentary in which pathologists opened the brain of a patient. He had parasites inside, hungry worms that wriggled in strange rhythms. The poor guy was still alive. That's exactly how I feel when I listen to this record. BENIGHTED have an unmistakable style that they continue to refine. A great record! A brutal, grinding nightmare that brings out the sickest thoughts! A disturbing, unsettling descent into the abyss of the human mind!

Podívat se přišli všichni. Na zapálenou hranici. Nenaříkal, ani nic neříkal. Jen tam stál, hořel a pomalu umíral v nekonečných křečích. Jeho popel jsme vzali a rozházeli do řeky mrtvých. Stejně se vrátil. V našich snech, v děsivých představách. Stále bylo možné spatřit jeho zkřivenou tvář ve stínu, pořád jste mohli slyšet jeho jedovatý smích. Ďábel se ukrývá v detailech, v obyčejných lidech a jejich činech. Kolikrát jste zavřeli oči před zlem? Kolikrát jste se smáli nebožákům? Poslouchám novou desku amerických CRUCIFIER a nad podobnými věcmi přemýšlím.

Nové album je totiž opět krutým a temným obřadem pro vyvolávání sil, které nejsou rozhodně z našeho světa. Nahlédneme spolu s kapelou za oponu, do země nekonečných stínů, bolesti a trpících nemrtvých. A vychutnáme si hudbu, která žhne, pálí a chladí zároveň. Vítejte na pradávném rituálu, na obřadu, plném rouhání, šílenství a absolutní tmy.  

CRUCIFIER jsou opět majestátní, mocní, připomínají jezdce apokalypsy, kteří se přijeli pomstít za všechny hříchy, které na nich byly spáchány. Skvěle napsané skladby, riffy, ze kterých odkapává zkažená krev, ale hlavně absolutně podmanivá, magická a divoká atmosféra. Obraťte všechny kříže směrem dolů a zapalte ohně v pentagramu. Ze skladeb je cítit starodávná síla, nasbíraná na dávno opuštěných pohřebištích, ve vypálených kostelech i na místech, kde se kdysi odehrávaly krvavé rituály. Pánové jdou až k samé podstatě extrémního metalu. Jejich nápady jsou ohlodány na kost. Zlo zde má mnoho podob. Kapela tvoří podobným způsobem jako smečky typu IMPRECATION, GOATLORD, ENGORGE, HEADHUNTER D. C., INCANTATION, BLASPHEMY, SARCÓFAGO. Budete se bát svých vlastních slov a přiznání z vás nedostane ani ta nejkrutější inkvizice. Američané jsou pevní ve svých antikřesťanských názorech a je to jen a jen dobře. Dodává to nové nahrávce na uvěřitelnosti. Prosévám mezi prsty prach spálených. Dívám se do tmy a šeptám obrácené modlitby. Boha nikdo nikdy neviděl, ale Satana můžete potkat na každém kroku. Novinku vnímám jako velmi povedenou poctu blasfemii, šílenství, jako pomstu všem zvráceným kněžím. Umíráme a rodíme se v nekonečném kruhu. Existuje jen několik jistot v dnešním divném světě. CRUCIFIER patří mezi ně. Lidé jsou ve své podstatě jen krutá zvířata. Tahle smečka vytáhla na povrch ty nejhnusnější myšlenky a vypálila je do svých songů. Ďábel se ukrývá v detailech, v obyčejných lidech a jejich činech. Kolikrát jste zavřeli oči před zlem? Špínou, hnisem, zkaženou krví nasáklý black death metal! Totální tma, zlo, u kterého budete spáleni na popel!

Everyone came to see. To the lit border. He didn't yell or say anything. He just stood there, burning and slowly dying in endless spasms. We took his ashes and scattered them in the river of the dead. He came back anyway. In our dreams, in our horrible fantasies. You could still see his twisted face in the shadows, you could still hear his venomous laugh. The devil hides in the details, in ordinary people and their actions. How many times have you closed your eyes to evil? How many times have you laughed at the wicked? I'm listening to the new American CRUCIFIER album and I'm thinking about things like that.

For the new album is once again a cruel and dark ritual for invoking forces that are definitely not of our world. We peek behind the curtain with the band, into the land of endless shadows, pain and suffering undead. And enjoy music that glows, burns and chills at the same time. Welcome to an ancient ritual, a ceremony full of blasphemy, madness and absolute darkness.

CRUCIFIER are once again majestic, powerful, reminiscent of the horsemen of the apocalypse who have come to avenge all the sins that have been committed against them. Well-written songs, riffs dripping with bad blood, but most of all an absolutely captivating, magical and wild atmosphere. Turn all the crosses upside down and light the fires in the pentagram. The songs reek of ancient power, gleaned from long-abandoned burial grounds, burnt churches and places where blood rituals once took place. The gentlemen go to the very essence of extreme metal. Their ideas are gnawed to the bone. The evil here takes many forms. The band creates in a similar way to packs like IMPRECATION, GOATLORD, ENGORGE, HEADHUNTER D.C., INCANTATION, BLASPHEMY, SARCÓFAGO. You'll be afraid of your own words and confessions won't get the cruelest inquisition out of you. Americans are firm in their anti-Christian views, and that is just as well. It adds to the believability of the new recording. I sift through the dust of the burned between my fingers. I look into the darkness and whisper inverted prayers. No one has ever seen God, but you can meet Satan at every turn. I see the novelty as a very hilarious tribute to blasphemy, to madness, as a revenge on all perverted priests. We die and are born in an endless circle. There are few certainties in today's strange world. CRUCIFIER is one of them. Humans are inherently cruel animals. This pack has brought out the ugliest thoughts and burned them into their songs. The devil is in the details, in ordinary people and their actions. How many times have you turned a blind eye to evil? Dirt, pus, corrupted blood soaked black death metal! Total darkness, evil that will burn you to ashes!

Stojí na mostě a dívá se na řeku aut, která se přesouvají pomalu dopředu. Přemýšlí, jestli už nastal čas. Nerozumí dnešnímu divnému světu. Je na něj příliš rychlý a povrchní. Naklání se nad hlubinu a lidé si jej natáčejí. Někteří jej povzbuzují, aby skočil, aby měli dobrý záběr. Dnes ještě ne, dnes jim radost neudělá. Místo toho si narve pod tlakem do hlavy nové EP holandských veteránů DEAD HEAD. Až ti bude jednou kámo hodně těžko na duši, udělej to samé.

Pánové jsou zpět po dvou letech a jsou silnější než kdy dřív. Jejich neučesaný, neurvalý, divoký a šílený thrash metal, kombinovaný se starodávnou smrtí, mi dělá opět velmi dobře na mojí zkažené duši. Tohle je smršť, lavina, která vás strhne s sebou. Budete spáleni na popel neskutečnou energií. 


Tvorba téhle smečky bývá často přirovnávána jak k německému klasickému thrash metalu, tak třeba i ke kapelám typu SLAYER, DARK ANGEL, SADUS, DEMOLITION HAMMER. S klidem bych klidně přidal i MALEVOLENT CREATION, PESTILENCE. Já ale tyhle přirovnání a jednoduché popisy nemám moc rád. DEAD HEAD jsou natolik stará kapela, aby měla svůj vlastní výraz i ksicht. Nepotřebují nikomu nic dokazovat. Moc dobře vědí, co a jak chtějí hrát. A to prosím pěkně již od roku 1989. V jejich žilách koluje úplně stejná krev jako v těch mých. Je pro mě radost se ráno probudit a chodit ulicemi se sluchátky na uších. Jsem potom celý den doslova nabitý energií a dívám se na svět o hodně přívětivějšíma očima. Ano, zde je ještě všechno v pořádku. Pokud budou stále hrát podobné kapely, bude pro mě radost hudbu poslouchat. Zkrátka a jednoduše, věřím opět Holanďanům každý tón, každou notu, každý úder do bicích. Stáli jste někdy na mostě a dívali se dolů? Napadlo vás skočit? Rozhodně to nedělejte, ať jste na tom jakkoliv špatně. Radši si pusťte tuhle desku pořádně nahlas a uvidíte, že se začnete usmívat. Jsem zase mladej kluk, co chodil v džínové bundě, co nosil kazeťák na ramenou a trávil dlouhé hodiny s partou na periferii našeho města. Všude jenom beton a šeď. Ale také thrash metal, který formoval nejen můj hudební vkus, ale také pohled na svět jako celek. Občas je zkrátka dobré poslat všechny do prdele a zbourat nejbližší zeď. "Shadow Soul" je nahrávkou, která vám k tomu může klidně hrát. Má skvělý zvuk, obal, vlastně všechno, co potřebuji, abych neskočil do hlubiny. Dávám všechny palce nahoru a skáču po hlavě do mosh-pitu. Totálně zničující thrash death metal, který vás rozemele na prach! Budete ohlodáni až na kost!

He stands on the bridge and looks out at the river of cars moving slowly forward. He wonders if the time has come. He doesn't understand today's strange world. It's too fast and superficial for him. He leans over the deep and people film him. Some people encourage him to jump so they can get a good shot. Not yet, he won't make them happy today. Instead, he shoves the new EP from Dutch veterans DEAD HEAD into his head under pressure. One day, when you're feeling really heavy on your soul, do the same.

The gentlemen are back after two years and they're stronger than ever. Their unbrushed, unhinged, wild and crazy thrash metal, combined with ancient death, is once again doing my wicked soul a lot of good. This is a whirlwind, an avalanche that takes you with it. You will be burnt to ashes by the incredible energy. 


The work of this pack is often compared to German classic thrash metal, as well as to bands like SLAYER, DARK ANGEL, SADUS, DEMOLITION HAMMER. I would also add MALEVOLENT CREATION, PESTILENCE. But I don't like these comparisons and simple descriptions. DEAD HEAD are an old enough band to have their own expression and face. They don't need to prove anything to anyone. They know very well what and how they want to play. And they've been doing that since 1989. They have the same blood in their veins as mine. It's a joy to wake up in the morning and walk down the street with headphones on. I'm literally energized all day long and I look at the world with much friendlier eyes. Yes, all is still well here. As long as bands like this keep playing, it will be a joy for me to listen to music. In short, I trust the Dutch again with every note, every note, every drumbeat. Have you ever stood on a bridge and looked down? Have you thought of jumping? Definitely don't, no matter how bad you are. You better play this record real loud and you'll see yourself smiling. I'm a young kid again, wearing a denim jacket, carrying a tape recorder on my shoulder and spending long hours with the gang on the outskirts of our town. All concrete and grey everywhere. But also thrash metal, which shaped not only my taste in music, but also my view of the world as a whole. Sometimes it's just good to tell everyone to fuck off and knock down the nearest wall. "Shadow Soul" is a record that you can easily play along with. It's got a great sound, cover art, pretty much everything I need to keep me from jumping into the deep end. I'm giving it all thumbs up and jumping headfirst into the mosh pit. Totally devastating thrash death metal that will grind you to dust! You'll be gnawed to the bone!

Určitě znáte ten pocit, když se ráno probudíte a něco je špatně. Zdá se vám, že vaše tělo uvnitř hnije. Bolí vás hlava a klepou se ruce. Jste jako závislý, který nedostal svoji drogu. Jste rádi sami. Vyhledáváte temné kouty a všichni kolem vás vám připadají příliš veselí. Hudba je krásná v tom, že ji můžete aplikovat v různém stavu mysli. Existuje klidný a pomalý smrtící kov, existuje i rychlý, u kterého si vyčistíte hlavu. A pak je tu ten technický, komplikovaný a náročný, jako hrají američtí REPLICANT. 

S touto smečkou jste se mohli na našich stránkách již setkat. Máme dokonce i krátký rozhovor. Odkazy naleznete dole pod článkem. Osobně se mi vždy na kapele líbilo, že sice hrají složitě, ale jejich alba se velmi dobře poslouchají. Chce to jen náležitý stav mysli, potřebnou dávku fantazie a otevřenou mysl. Potom si jejich novinku "Infinite Mortality" určitě vychutnáte. 


Temnota se ukrývá v každém z nás. REPLICANT vzali veškeré zlé a ošklivé myšlenky a vytáhli je pomocí nové desky na povrch. U některých songů padám z vysoké skály po zádech do propasti, u jiných se bořím po pás v krvavých močálech. Za vše může i čitelný a masivní zvuk (AJ Viana at AJ Viana Productions) i obal (Alli Tuttle), který přesně vyjadřuje to, co se na albu odehrává. Disonantní smrtící kov, s příměsí techniky, špíny a hnisu. Ano, staré rány se otevírají, smrt je zase jednou hodně blízko a kývá spokojeně hlavou. Pánové dokáží napsat skladby, které na mě působí jako vážná muzika. Propracované motivy, které jednou žhnou a pálí, jindy drásají. Přenesených emocí je velké množství a mají různé odstíny tmavých barev. Pokud jste fanoušci třeba takových MORBID ANGEL, ULCERATE, GORGUTS, DEMILICH, BOLT THROWER, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, WORMED, budete určitě spokojeni. Na novince naleznete vše potřebné k tomu, abyste se naplno ponořili do černých myšlenek. Někdy si připadám v dnešním světě jako svázaný ve svěrací kazajce. Jsem normální já nebo ti, kdo žijí za zdí? Otázek je až příliš mnoho. Mám rád, když je ve mě kapela dokáže probudit, donutí mě přemýšlet, vracet se a stále objevovat další a další pasáže. "Infinite Mortality" je nahrávkou, která je neklidným negativním opusem z druhé strany, z onoho světa. Pánové se stále snaží posouvat hranice, překračovat je. Myslím si, že se jim to daří na výbornou. Letos dostanete syrový koktejl, umíchaný z těch nejlepších ingrediencí. Stačí jen ochutnat. Jen si dejte pozor, abyste potom nezemřeli v šílených křečích. Technický, disonantní death metal, který vás stáhne do temných močálů lidských myšlenek! Vynikající záležitost pro všechny vaše démony!

I'm sure you know the feeling when you wake up in the morning and something is wrong. You feel like your body is rotting inside. Your head hurts and your hands are shaking. You're like an addict who hasn't got his drug. You like to be alone. You seek out dark corners and everyone around you seems too cheerful. The beauty of music is that you can apply it in different states of mind. There's calm and slow death metal, there's fast metal where you clear your head. And then there's the technical, complicated and challenging one, like American REPLICANT play.

Personally, what I've always liked about the band is that although they play complex music, their albums are very easy to listen to. It just takes the proper state of mind, the necessary amount of imagination and an open mind. Then you will definitely enjoy their new album "Infinite Mortality".


The darkness hides within each of us. REPLICANT have taken all the bad and ugly thoughts and brought them to the surface with a new record. Some songs have me falling off a high cliff on my back into the abyss, others have me wading waist deep in bloody swamps. It's all thanks to the clear and massive sound (AJ Viana at AJ Viana Productions) and the cover art (Alli Tuttle), which accurately conveys what's going on in the album. Dissonant death metal, with an admixture of techno, dirt and pus. Yes, old wounds are opening, death is once again very close and nodding its head in satisfaction. The gentlemen can write songs that strike me as serious music. Elaborate motifs that at times burn and scorch, at others they tear. The emotions conveyed are many and come in different shades of dark colours. If you are a fan of such bands as MORBID ANGEL, ULCERATE, GORGUTS, DEMILICH, BOLT THROWER, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, WORMED, you will be satisfied. On the new release you will find everything you need to fully immerse yourself in black thoughts. Sometimes I feel like I'm tied up in a straitjacket in today's world. Am I normal or are those who live behind the wall? There are too many questions. I love it when a band can bring them out in me, make me think, go back and keep discovering more and more passages. "Infinite Mortality" is a record that is a restless negative opus from the other side, from the other world. The gentlemen are always trying to push the boundaries, to cross them. I think they are succeeding very well. This year you get a raw cocktail, mixed with the best ingredients. All you have to do is taste it. Just make sure you don't die of mad cramps afterwards. Technical, dissonant death metal that will drag you into the dark swamps of human thoughts! Excellent stuff for all your demons!

Byl jsem celý den v lese. Potkal jsem jenom pár lidí. Vzduch byl studený a cesty ještě zmrzlé. Potřeboval jsem něco dobrého k pití, teplý oheň a nějakou hudbu, kterou bych mohl poslouchat, až si budu číst staré spisy. Otevírám lahev hořkého piva, dívám se na plameny a zapínám play. Chtělo by to kazetu, říkám si jako první, protože na tenhle nosič nové album norských COFFIN STORM patří. Najednou není rok 2024, ale přesunuli jsme se spolu s kapelou někam na konec osmdesátých let minulého století. 

To jsem byl mladý chlapec, který se s muzikou teprve seznamoval. Nebyl dnes všemocný internet a světu vládly skupiny jako CANDLEMASS, MERCYFUL FATE, CATHEDRAL, TROUBLE. A rohy samozřejmě začaly vystrkovat i extrémnější styly jako black a thrash metal. Nezbývá mi nic jiného, než vám ihned na začátku nové album "Arcana Rising" doporučit. Pokud jste staří, tradiční a klasičtí metalisté, budete určitě spokojeni jako já. 


Na rovinu vám říkám, že to nejsou jenom známá jména v bookletu (Apollyon (Aura Noir), Bestial Tormentor (Infernö), Fenriz (Darkthrone)), která pro mě udělala tuhle desku doslova návykovou. Nebo možná ano, protože se zde sešli muzikanti, kteří přesně vědí, co a jak chtějí hrát. Představuji si hospodu někde v Norsku, kde si pánové sedli u stolu a najednou jeden z nich říká, co kdybychom napsali hudbu, která nám koluje v žilách. Slovo dalo slovo a vy si můžete vychutnat velmi tradiční, skvěle zahranou muziku. Navíc, nelze jinak, než přirovnat k archivnímu vínu. Vše je ohlodané až na kost, kapela jde k samotným počátkům, krvavým kořenům metalu. A tihle gentlemani to dělají velmi dobře. Staroškolskému pocitu je podřízeno vše. Zvuk, obal, provedení. Bez toho by to ale nešlo. Navíc je přidána víra a srdce, věci, které nejde ničím jiným nahradit. Vždycky jsem na muzice nejvíc oceňoval uvěřitelnost, opravdovost, před dokonalostí. Jasně, že mi Fenrizův vokál v některých momentech trošku vadí, jenže to je právě ono, to je ta patina, ten přírodní úkaz. Hudba pro mě byla vždy o emocích, o tom, že s kapelou rozmlouvám. A nejen dnes, když jsem se vrátil z lesa, jsem si nové album opravdu vychutnal. Fanoušci sami poznají, pro koho je určeno. Pro staré psy, kteří už dávno nerozumí dnešnímu pokřivenému světu. Pro lidi, co sbírali svoje hudební zkušenosti v osmdesátých a devadesátých letech. Žádné pózy, žádné zbytečnosti, jenom metal, ukovaný z té nejkvalitnější oceli. Ano, přátelé, je v tom i obrovský kus nostalgie. Koneckonců, proč ne, máme na ní nárok. Když si to vezmu kolem a kolem, tak jsem od téhle desky příliš nečekal a nakonec se stala jednou z mých nejposlouchanějších za poslední dobu. Je totiž opravdová, reálná. Heavy doom metalové ozvěny ze starých časů! Muzika, ohlodaná až na kost!

I've been in the woods all day. I only met a few people. The air was cold and the roads were still frozen. I needed something good to drink, a warm fire and some music to listen to while I read old writings. I opened a bottle of bitter beer, looked at the flames and put it on play. I wish it was a cassette, I think to myself first, because the new album by Norway's COFFIN STORM belongs on this carrier. Suddenly it's not 2024, but we've moved with the band to somewhere in the late 1980s. 

I was a young boy then, just getting to grips with music. The internet wasn't omnipotent and bands like CANDLEMASS, MERCYFUL FATE, CATHEDRAL, TROUBLE ruled the world. And of course, more extreme styles like black and thrash metal started to make their mark. I have no other choice but to recommend the new album "Arcana Rising" right from the start. If you are old, traditional and classic metalheads, you will be satisfied like me. 


To tell you the truth, it's not just the familiar names in the booklet (Apollyon (Aura Noir), Bestial Tormentor (Infernö), Fenriz (Darkthrone)) that made this album literally addictive for me. Or maybe it is, because here are musicians who know exactly what and how they want to play. I imagine a pub somewhere in Norway, where the gentlemen sit down at a table and suddenly one of them says, what if we wrote music that runs through our veins. The word was given and you can enjoy very traditional, well played music. Plus, you can't help but compare it to vintage wine. Everything is gnawed to the bone, the band goes back to the very beginnings, the bloody roots of metal. And these gentlemen do it very well. The old-school feel is subordinate to everything. The sound, the cover, the execution. But it couldn't have been done without it. Plus there's faith and heart, things that can't be replaced by anything else. What I've always appreciated most about music is believability, realness, over perfection. Sure, Fenriz's vocals bother me a bit in some moments, but that's just it, that's the patina, the natural phenomenon. Music for me has always been about emotions, about talking to the band. And not only today, when I came back from the woods, I really enjoyed the new album. Fans will know for themselves who it's for. For the old dogs who don't understand today's warped world anymore. For people who gathered their musical experience in the eighties and nineties. No posing, no uselessness, just metal, forged from the finest steel. Yes, my friends, there's a great deal of nostalgia in there too. After all, why not, we're entitled to it. All things considered, I wasn't expecting much from this record and it ended up being one of my most listened to albums in a while. Because it's real, it's real. Heavy doom metal echoes from the old days! Music that's gnawed to the bone!

Ave WHISKEY & FUNERAL! I am currently listening your new album “Thy Malignant” and I can´t help but think that this is the kind of music which will be played during the end of the world. I think it is a great masterpiece. How do you feel about your new album? Have you received any feedbacks? From fans for example? Have you played new songs live already? Do they work?

Hi my friend, first of all thank u for your interest and for your support. Thank u for supporting the band and the underground. I’m very satisfied to know that you like the album. For us is always a pleasure. I can say to you that the album is just published, so is very soon to speak about the reactions. But I can say to you that no album before this one, has been received like this. But we are no surprise, we know we have outdone ourselves. Every one of us worked hard in every aspect. The technique, the execution, the sounds, nothing is improvised. We will play live six song for the new album. There will be no pauses, there will be no words. Only satanic death metal and brutality.


How do WHISKEY & FUNERAL compose? Are you a traditional band who go to the rehearsal room and compose or you prefer going online and send your ideas via email? I am really interested in your composing process.

In reality we compose in a very simple way. We all live in a small area, and we have our sound stage down the stars, you know. When we get out from our work, we take the beers and we go down to play. All together. We play death metal from 15 years , is very simple for us.

Lyrics are a separated topic of WHISKEY & FUNERAL. Who is the author of your lyrics? And what are your lyrics about? Where do you find inspiration for your songs? The lyrics on “Thy Malignant” just fit so perfectly to the music. What was first – music or lyrics?

Sorry but I don’t remember the first. I am the writer of all lyrics ( you are speaking with Francesco “UNDER” Andrei) and the main theme is always the horror, the attraction to darkness and the pure sense of entertainment. We take inspirations from many film, you know, Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Roger Corman, John Carpenter. They are the masters of horror. We follow their teaching.


I have to admit that the cover for "Thy Malignant" is excellent - it fits the music perfectly! It's literally scary. How did you choose the cover and who is the author? Did you hear new songs beforehand for inspiration?

Yes the cover is an idea of Stefano , and the author is Roberto Toderico, an artist that work for other extreme band in Italy. I think Stefano wanted an antichristian image for that album. And I think that this Christ monster is very suited. In the song The 13th Apostle we said “ you are the monsters, you are the liars “. However we wanted also a death metal image. You have to understand immediately that inside this album you will listen nothing but a fucini speed death metal from the underground.

The sound of the album is great. It is dark, cold and sharp at the same time. Which studio did you chose for recording? Did you have any opinions about the final sound and mastering, were you able to change anything?

The album was recorded and mixed at VM Studio by our friend Silvio Gentili, the best producer in the world. No trigger were used on this album the drum you can listen is totally acoustics. My friend, we respect the other point of views but I listen many extreme albums, and there are many plastic music. Drums without dynamics, non existent bass, guitars of plastic. Our album sound like a death metal album like Once Upon The Cross, with modern sound. Modern sound, no plastic sound. Is different.


The new album was published by Tribulación Productions. Why this label? Were you satisfied with their work?

Is the second album with Tribulacion and with our friend Mauricio Sanchez. The album is a coproduction with others two label, WP & RO Prod / Sevared Records. They are fantastic. They support the real underground and they are true fan of this music. We hope that our collaboration will continue in the future. We are proud of our choice.

You have been playing since 2005. How was the beginning of your band? How did you create the band and what was the first impulse to build something death metal? Did you have any idols? How was it to play death metal in Italy?

Damn we've grown old. We have been friends for a long time, you know when we were 18, we smoke marjuana and listened Cannibal, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Dying Fetus, Sinister. We are real fan. The name of the band was burn in a night after 2 or 3 beers. I was with my friend Maurizio and we were listening The Cult Is Alive (Darkthrone). Inside the album there is a song title Whiskey Funeral. We take the name from this album. From 20 years we came in our studio and we play, smoke and drink. And nothing has changed. Ok now we have family and sons, but we are the same person of 20 years ago. We are a family.


You can see how much you enjoy your music in your band. Do you have any target which you want to hit? Someone wants a famous label, the other one might want to play on big festival.

Our band is not a band with a path out of the underground. You know, to have a career with an extreme band you have to go on tour. Tours are very important for having a career. unfortunately we are 3 workers and we live on our salary. Every tour is much expensive for us. The band in Italy that can go on tour are the band with a lot of money aside. We are poor. But is not important for us. We still here, our albums speak for us. And we are the best death metal band in Italy there are no doubts.

How is it to play death metal in Italy? Do you have a lot of fans on concerts? Do fans support bands? Do they buy CDs, merchandise, etc.? When you organize an event how many people will come?

Is not important for us the fan appreciation. We do our albums, we play our concert and we always sell all our merch. We don't look at what others do, we don't care.

Death metal is a demanding hobby and an even harder lifestyle. What does it mean for you? What do you enjoy most about it and how do you perceive it? How did you actually get to him?

Yes is our way of life . We always think about new song, we still listen Cannibal Corpse all together with our prefer beer. We go to small clubs to listen to underground bands. To play death metal you have to be always a fan of this music and you have to be sincere with those who listen.


I deliberately ask this question to all bands to do some promotion for the future. Please tell us what WHISKEY & FUNERAL is planning soon? What can we look forward to?

My friend nothing to say, Whiskey&Funeral will be always Whiskey&Funeral. We've been doing the same thing for 20 years. We carry the band forward with honor and respect.

Ave WHISKEY & FUNERAL! Právě poslouchám vaši novinku „Thy Malignant“ a říkám si, že takhle nějak bude znít hudba, kterou budou hrát při konci světa. Myslím, že se vám povedl opravdu mistrovský kousek. Jaké jsou tvoje pocity z novinky? Máš už nějaké zpětné vazby od fanoušků? Hráli jste už nové skladby naživo? A jak fungují?

Ahoj, příteli, v první řadě děkuji za tvůj zájem a za tvou podporu. Děkujeme za podporu kapely a undergroundu. Jsem velmi spokojený, že se ti album líbí. Pro nás je to vždycky potěšení. Můžu ti říct, že album právě vyšlo, takže je velmi brzy mluvit o reakcích. Ale můžu vám říct, že žádné album před tímto nebylo přijato takhle. Ale nás to nepřekvapuje, víme, že jsme překonali sami sebe. Každý z nás tvrdě pracoval po všech stránkách. Technika, provedení, zvuky, nic není improvizované. K novému albu zahrajeme naživo šest písní. Nebudou tam žádné pauzy, nebudou tam žádná slova. Jen satanský death metal a brutalita.


Jak vlastně vznikají nové skladby pro WHISKEY & FUNERAL? Jste tradiční kapelou, která se zavře do zkušebny a tam skládá nebo využíváte v dnešní době tolik oblíbený internet a posíláte si nápady emailem? Zajímá mě samotný tvůrčí proces.

Ve skutečnosti skládáme velmi jednoduchým způsobem. Všichni žijeme na malém prostoru a máme zvukovou scénu dole u hvězd, víte. Když přijdeme z práce, vezmeme si pivo a jdeme dolů hrát. Všichni společně. Hrajeme death metal už patnáct let, je to pro nás velmi jednoduché.

Samostatnou kapitolou jsou u WHISKEY & FUNERAL texty. O čem pojednávají na novém albu a kde jsi pro ně bral inspiraci? Na „Thy Malignant“ perfektně sedí k muzice. Co bylo dřív, muzika nebo texty?

Omlouvám se, ale na první si nevzpomínám. Jsem autorem všech textů (mluvíte s Francescem "UNDER" Andreiem) a hlavním tématem je vždy hrůza, přitažlivost temnoty a čistý smysl pro zábavu. Inspiraci čerpáme z mnoha filmů, znáte to, Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Roger Corman, John Carpenter. To jsou mistři hororu. Následujeme jejich učení.


Musím se přiznat, že cover pro „Thy Malignant“ je vynikající – sedne perfektně k hudbě! Jde z něj doslova strach. Jak jste obal vybírali a kdo je jeho autorem? Slyšel třeba dopředu nové skladby pro inspiraci?

Ano, obálka je Stefanovým nápadem a autorem je Roberto Toderico, výtvarník, který pracuje pro jiné extrémní skupiny v Itálii. Myslím, že Stefano chtěl mít na tom albu protikřesťanskou image. A myslím, že tahle Kristova příšera se k tomu hodí. V písni Třináctý apoštol jsme říkali "vy jste monstra, vy jste lháři". Chtěli jsme však také deathmetalovou image. Musíte hned pochopit, že uvnitř toho alba nebudete poslouchat nic jiného než fuciniovský speed death metal z undergroundu.

Skvělý je zvuk celé nahrávky. Je temný, studený a ostrý zároveň. V jakém studiu jste album nahrávali? Mluvili jste jako kapela do výsledného zvuku, masteringu?

Album bylo nahráno a smícháno ve VM Studiu naším přítelem Silviem Gentilim, nejlepším producentem na světě. Na tomto albu nebyly použity žádné spouštěče, bicí, které můžete poslouchat, jsou zcela akustické. Kamaráde, respektujeme i jiné názory, ale já jsem poslouchal hodně extrémních alb a je tam hodně plastické hudby. Bicí bez dynamiky, neexistující basa, plastové kytary. Naše album zní jako deathmetalové album typu Once Upon The Cross s moderním zvukem. Moderní zvuk, žádný plastový zvuk. Je jiný.


Nové album vyšlo u francouzských Tribulación Productions. Proč jste si vybrali právě tento label a jak jste s jeho prací spokojeni?

Je to druhé album s Tribulacion a s naším přítelem Mauriciem Sanchezem. Album vzniklo v koprodukci s dalšími dvěma vydavatelstvími, WP & RO Prod / Sevared Records. Jsou fantastické. Podporují skutečný underground a jsou opravdovými fanoušky této hudby. Doufáme, že naše spolupráce bude pokračovat i v budoucnu. Jsme hrdí na naši volbu.

Historie kapely se datuje do roku 2005. Jak vůbec vznikl nápad, hrát death metal? Kdo byl vaším vzorem? Zavzpomínej pro nás prosím! Jaké to je hrát v death metal v Itálii?

Sakra, zestárli jsme. Jsme kamarádi už dlouho, víš, když nám bylo osmnáct, kouřili jsme marihuanu a poslouchali Cannibal, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Dying Fetus, Sinister. Jsme opravdoví fanoušci. Název kapely vznikl vypálením za noc po dvou nebo třech pivech. Byl jsem s kamarádem Mauriziem a poslouchali jsme The Cult Is Alive (Darkthrone). Uvnitř alba je píseň s názvem Whiskey Funeral. Název jsme převzali z tohoto alba. Od dvaceti let jsme přišli do studia a hrajeme, kouříme a pijeme. A nic se nezměnilo. Dobře, teď máme rodiny a syny, ale jsme pořád stejní jako před dvaceti lety. Jsme rodina.


Na vaší kapele je hrozně vidět, jak vás vaše muzika baví. Máte nějaký cíl, kterého byste chtěli dosáhnout? Pro někoho to je slavné vydavatelství, jiný si chce třeba zahrát na velkém festivalu.

Naše kapela není kapelou, která by hledala cestu ven z undergroundu. Víte, abyste udělali kariéru extrémní kapely, musíte jezdit na turné. Turné jsou pro kariéru velmi důležitá. Bohužel jsme tři zaměstnanci a žijeme ze svého platu. Každé turné je pro nás hodně drahé. Kapela v Itálii, která může jet na turné, je kapela, která má hodně peněz stranou. My jsme chudí. Ale to pro nás není důležité. Pořád jsme tady, naše alba mluví za nás. A že jsme nejlepší deathmetalová kapela v Itálii, o tom není pochyb.

Jaké to vlastně je, hrát death metal v Itálii? Chodí u vás lidi na koncerty? Podporují vás, kupují CD? Když třeba uspořádáte nějakou akci, kolik přijde lidí?

Není pro nás důležité, aby fanoušek nás ocenil. Vydáváme alba, hrajeme koncerty a vždycky prodáme veškerý merch. Nedíváme se na to, co dělají ostatní, je nám to jedno.

Death metal je náročný koníček a ještě těžší životní styl. Co znamená pro tebe? Co tě na něm nejvíc baví a jak jej vnímáš? Jak si se k němu vlastně dostal?

Ano je náš způsob života. Pořád přemýšlíme o nové písni, pořád posloucháme Cannibal Corpse a k tomu si dáváme pivo. Chodíme do malých klubů poslouchat undergroundové kapely. Abyste mohli hrát death metal, musíte být vždy fanouškem této hudby a musíte být upřímní k těm, kteří ji poslouchají.


Tuhle otázku dávám záměrně všem kapelám, aby si udělali trošku propagaci do budoucna. Prozraď nám prosím, co chystají WHISKEY & FUNERAL v nejbližší době? Na co se můžeme těšit?

Můj příteli, nemám co dalšího říct, Whiskey&Funeral bude vždy Whiskey&Funeral. Děláme to samé už 20 let. Neseme kapelu dál se ctí a respektem.
