Všichni mě varovali, přesto jsem musel. Zvědavost zase jednou zvítězila nad opatrností. Nedalo mi to, ale víko jsem nadzvedl. Viděl jsem v životě již spoustu mrtvých těl. Poslouchám tuhle hudbu přes třicet let, ale tahle mrtvola byla opravdu hodně zohavená. Polámané kosti, vypíchnuté oči, vnitřnosti, vytrhané z těla. Ohledám tělo a verdikt je jednoznačný. Prokletý hříšník, mučený a ponížený. Pohřbený zaživa. Kývám souhlasně hlavou. Sem, do chladných kobek, patřím a zde je moje místo. Pravý death metal nesmí nikdy zemřít!

Pokud budou vznikat a existovat kapely jako je BEYONDITION, tak o to strach nemám. Jedná se německé tmáře, kteří umí vytvořit velmi pochmurnou, chladnou a děsivou atmosféru. Žádná dnes tak častá plastová produkce. Naopak, tady praskají kosti tlakem a ďábel se usmívá. Nezbývá, než přidat hlasitost. 


Pro pochopení téhle desky je nutné se nejdříve zavřít na nějaký čas do hrobu spolu s kapelami typu ASPHYX, PENTACLE, UNLEASHED, ale třeba i s takovými SAMAEL a MORTUARY DRAPE. Pro mě je vždy velmi důležitý zvuk a produkce - zde jsem velmi spokojený. Rád se podívám i na obal - zde připomíná staré black metalové motivy z devadesátých let minulého století. Hlavní je pro mě ale hudba samotná a potom nálady, atmosféra a pocity, které si po společných setkáních z hudby odnáším. BEYONDITION hrají postaru, plesnivě, exhumují staré pořádky. Ale nedělají to povrchně. Naopak, věřím jim každý tón, každou notu, každý zásek do m hlavy. Najednou kolem mě není současný divný svět, války, nenávist a tupý dav v ulicích. Toulám se znovu a znovu za zvuků "Abysmal Night" nekonečnými chodbami Hádovy říše a kývám spokojeně hlavou. Rozhrnu pavučiny, otevřu další rakev a dívám se na červy, které se kroutí do rytmu. Kolem je absolutní tma a po zdech stéká špinavá krev, cítím chlad, který mě objímá jako plášť z krvavé mlhy. Líbí se mi děsivé nálady, které během poslechu poletují jako můry. Pánové dokázali napsat skladby, kterým když dáte čas, tak se vám dostanou až do snů. Budete mít noční běsy, ve kterých vás budou mučit rozžhaveným železem. Ucítíte stejnou bolest, jako oběti čarodějnických procesů. Zavřeni ve starých chrámech plných beznaděje a slepé víry, stále posloucháme tuhle desku. Smrtící kov, který vám způsobí chlad v kostech! Děsivý rituál nemrtvých!


Asphyx says:

Everyone warned me, but I had to. Once again, curiosity won out over caution. I couldn't help but lift the lid. I've seen a lot of dead bodies in my life. I've been listening to this music for over thirty years, but this corpse was really badly mutilated. Broken bones, eyes gouged out, guts ripped out of the body. I examine the body and the verdict is clear. A cursed sinner, tortured and humiliated. Buried alive. I nod my head in agreement. This is where I belong, in the cold dungeons, and this is my place. True death metal must never die!

As long as bands like BEYONDITION are created and exist, I'm not worried. These are German darkies who can create a very gloomy, cold and scary atmosphere. No plastic production so common nowadays. On the contrary, here the bones crack with pressure and the devil smiles. Nothing to do but turn up the volume.


In order to understand this record, you have to first put yourself in the grave for some time with bands like ASPHYX, PENTACLE, UNLEASHED, but also with the likes of SAMAEL and MORTUARY DRAPE. For me the sound and production is always very important - here I am very satisfied. I also like to look at the cover art - here it reminds of old black metal motifs from the 90s. But the main thing for me is the music itself, and then the moods, atmosphere and feelings I take away from the music after our meetings together. BEYONDITION play old, moldy, exhume the old ways. But they don't do it superficially. On the contrary, I trust them with every note, every note, every hit to my head. Suddenly, I'm not surrounded by the current strange world, wars, hatred and dumb crowds in the streets. I wander again and again to the sounds of "Abysmal Night" through the endless corridors of Hades, nodding my head in satisfaction. I open the cobwebs, open another coffin and watch the worms wriggle to the rhythm. It's absolutely dark around me, and there's dirty blood running down the walls, and I feel a chill that envelops me like a cloak of bloody mist. I like the eerie moods that flit like moths as I listen. The gentlemen have managed to write songs that, if you give them time, will take you right into your dreams. You'll have night terrors in which you'll be tortured with red-hot iron. You will feel the same pain as the victims of the witch trials. Locked in old temples of hopelessness and blind faith, we still listen to this record. A deadly metal that will send a chill through your bones! A terrifying ritual of the undead!

Krev, pomalu vytékající ven. Má temně rudou barvu a něco je jinak, špatně. Vyhasínající pohled, nepříjemný, zlostný a bolestivý. Jak vlastně umírají bestie? Uvědomí si své hříchy a chtějí, aby jim bylo odpuštěno? Nebo se usmívají a jejich duše shoří v pekle? Na tyhle otázky hledám odpověď celý svůj život. Poslouchám u toho extrémní muziku, čtu knihy a stále nejsem u cíle. Co bude, až všichni zemřeme? Kdy nastane apokalypsa? 

Tolik otázek, tolik touhy a vášně. Jsou tu noví ALTARAGE ze Španělska, aby nám podobné myšlenky rozdrásali v hlavě. A opět to dělají pomocí smradlavého, neuchopitelného death metalu, který je plný zla, špíny a zvrácených myšlenek. Pro někoho chaos a zmar, pro jiného hudba, bez které nemůže existovat. 


Sleduji vývoj téhle smečky od jejich počátků a cesta, na kterou se vydali, je opravdu fascinující. Každé nové album je trošku jiné, odlišné. Rychlost, zběsilost, vášeň, touhu ničit, tohle všechno zde najdete v míře vrchovaté. Avantgarda, disonantní prvky, pasáže, u kterých vám vypadne mozek z hlavy. Je to muzika z jiné dimenze, z děsivých nočních můr. Mnohdy náročná a neustále dopředu tlačící. Není lehké ji přijmout, není vůbec lehké ji vstřebat a pochopit. I nové album tak nejvíce ocení ti, kteří rádi u novinek přemýšlí, mají různé představy a nechávají je na sebe působit jako hororové filmy. Fanoušci třeba takových PORTAL, ULCERATE, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, určitě ví, o čem píšu. Ti budou nadšeni a budou nové album "Worst Case Scenario" uctívat a modlit se k němu. Ostatní utečou pryč, protože pro ně bude nová deska až příliš násilná. Chce to čas a trpělivost, i když je jasné, že každý jsme jiný a spoustu si k tomuhle šílenství cestu nenajde. Osobně musím mít na rouhaní ve stylu současných ALTARAGE náladu. Nejlépe po nějakém expresivním zážitku. Třeba jako sledování proříznuté tepny u prokletého, stejně jako jsem popisoval v úvodu dnešní recenze. Chce to klid, temnou a chladnou místnost a teprve po dlouhé době dojde ke vzájemnému přenosu. Alespoň tak jsem to měl nastavené já. Koneckonců, každý pohled na hudbu je subjektivní. Ten můj je opředen nepropustnou mlhou, děsivými představami, ale hlavně nekonečně pochmurnou a neklidnou atmosférou. Démoni vylézají z hrobů! Disonantní black death metalový opus, soundtrack k apokalypse!

Blood, slowly oozing out. It's a dark red color, and something is different, wrong. A fading sight, unpleasant, angry and painful. How do beasts actually die? Do they realize their sins and want to be forgiven? Or do they smile and their souls burn in hell? I've been looking for answers to these questions all my life. I've been listening to extreme music, reading books, and I'm still not at the finish line. What happens when we all die? When will the apocalypse happen? 

So many questions, so much longing and passion. The new ALTARAGE from Spain are here to crush such thoughts in our heads. And once again they do it with stinking, elusive death metal that is full of evil, filth and twisted thoughts. For some, chaos and death, for others, music that they can't exist without.


I've been following the evolution of this pack since their early days and the journey they've taken is truly fascinating. Every new album is a little bit different, different. The speed, the frenzy, the passion, the desire to destroy, you'll find it all here in spades. Avant-garde, dissonant elements, passages that will make your brain fall out of your head. It's music from another dimension, from terrifying nightmares. Often challenging and constantly pushing forward. It's not easy to accept, it's not at all easy to absorb and understand. So even the new album will be most appreciated by those who like to think, have different ideas and let it affect them like horror movies. Fans of PORTAL, ULCERATE, DEATHSPELL OMEGA, for example, know what I'm writing about. They will be excited and will worship and pray to the new album "Worst Case Scenario". Others will run away because the new album will be too violent for them. It takes time and patience, although it's clear that we're all different and a lot of us won't find our way to this madness. Personally, I have to be in the mood for blasphemy in the style of the current ALTARAGE. Preferably after an expressive experience. Like watching an artery being slashed by a damned man, like I described in the opening of today's review. It takes a quiet, dark and cold room and only after a long time will the mutual transmission occur. At least that's how I had it set up. After all, everyone's view of music is subjective. Mine is shrouded in an impenetrable fog, terrifying imagery, but most of all an endlessly gloomy and restless atmosphere. Demons are coming out of their graves! A dissonant black death metal opus, the soundtrack to the apocalypse!

Rezavý nůž, zabodnutý do tvého břicha. Vnitřnosti v ohni a pomalu uhasínající pohled. Jsi jen další v řadě. Jsi obětí, kusem masa pohozeným v tiché ulici. Na tvůj pohřeb nikdo nepřijde a rakev bude z nejlevnějších. Aspoň, že vyslyšeli tvoje přání a pohřbí tě do studené země. Ležíš v podzemí již pár dní a ven vylezeš pouze ve chvíli, kdy začne hrát nová deska španělských maniaků DEIMLER. Kýváš se do rytmu a maso ti odpadává od kostí. Už tu nejsi sám, kolem tebe tančí všichni praví fanoušci kruté a reálné smrti. 

DEIMLER jsou kapelou, jejichž historii u nás na stránkách pozorně sledujeme (recenze na předchozí alba a rozhovor jsou odkazovány dole pod článkem). Není divu, pánové hrají přesně druh hudby, která koluje i v našich žilách. V márnici je dnes pěkně živo. Nemrtví touží po čerstvé krvi. Myslím si, že se novinka opravdu povedla. 


Pokud jste jako já fanoušci kapel typu DEMILICH, CARNAGE, ADREMELECH, DISMEMBER, AVULSED, FUNEBRE, NECROPHILIAC, ENTOMBED, CARTILAGE, DEATH, OBITUARY, GRAVE, budete určitě spokojeni i s "Immortalized". Hraje se zde od srdce, opravdově, uvěřitelně. Pradávné hroby jsou exhumovány s elegancí a takovou tou těžko popsatelnou vášní. To ale vám, fanouškům ryzího death metalu nemusím vysvětlovat. Španělé si dali velký pozor na zvuk, který je opravdu prašivý jako dávno trouchnivějící kosti. Zaujal mě i obal, který je krásně futuristický. Myslím si, že nebude dlouho trvat a stroje nad námi zvítězí. Než se tak ale stane, budu dál otevírat rakve s nápisem DEIMLER. A budu to dělat s velkou chutí a nadšením. Protože pokaždé dostanu smrtící kov velmi vysoké kvality. Pánové jsou nekompromisní a řežou do mě noži ostrými jako skalpel. No, řekněte sami, co si víc může fanoušek pohřbů do země přát? Riffy, vokál, bicí, celkový dojem, tohle všechno sedí na svých místech. Pálí a žhne. Jako čepel, kterou vám někdo zabodne v temné ulici mezi žebra. Osobně se mi potom líbí, že v sobě songy obsahují velkou dávku černé energie, drive a sílu, načerpanou na starých pohřebištích. Je to masakr v márnici, jsou to ozvěny z onoho světa, jsou to šílené a děsivé vize. A všechno tohle dohromady tvoří doslova zabijácký koktejl. Věřím kapele každý tón, každou notu. Nezbývá mi tedy nic jiného, než vám novou desku "Immortalized" doporučit. Na můj pohřeb nikdo nepřišel a rakev je z nejlevnějších. Nevadí mi to, stejně jsem dávno propadl temnotě a peklu. Stačí mi jenom hudba a kus zkaženého masa. Velmi povedená záležitost pro všechny opravdové hrobníky! Old school death metal par excellence!

A rusty knife stuck in your stomach. Guts on fire and a slowly dying gaze. You're just the next in line. You're a victim, a piece of meat dumped in a quiet street. No one will come to your funeral, and your coffin will be the cheapest. At least they listened to your wishes and buried you in the cold earth. You've been lying underground for a few days and you'll only come out when the new album by Spanish maniacs DEIMLER starts playing. You're swaying to the rhythm and the flesh is falling off your bones. You're not alone anymore, all the true fans of cruel and real death are dancing around you. 

DEIMLER are a band whose history we follow closely on our site (reviews of previous albums and an interview are linked at the bottom of the article). No wonder, the gentlemen play exactly the kind of music that runs through our veins. The morgue is pretty lively today. The undead crave fresh blood. I think the novelty has really worn off.


If like me you are a fan of bands like DEMILICH, CARNAGE, ADREMELECH, DISMEMBER, AVULSED, FUNEBRE, NECROPHILIAC, ENTOMBED, CARTILAGE, DEATH, OBITUARY, GRAVE, you will definitely be satisfied with "Immortalized". The playing here is heartfelt, real, believable. Ancient graves are exhumed with elegance and that hard to describe passion. But I don't need to explain that to you, fans of pure death metal. The Spaniards have taken great care with their sound, which is really as dusty as long-rotting bones. I was also intrigued by the packaging, which is beautifully futuristic. I think it won't be long before the machines get the better of us. Until that happens though, I'll keep opening coffins that say DEIMLER. And I will do it with great gusto and enthusiasm. Because every time I get a deadly metal of very high quality. The men are uncompromising and cut me with knives as sharp as scalpels. Well, you tell me, what more could a fan of in-ground burials ask for? The riffs, the vocals, the drums, the overall feel, it all fits into place. It burns and it glows. Like a blade that's been stuck between your ribs in a dark alley. Personally, then, I like the fact that the songs contain a great deal of black energy, drive and power, picked up in old graveyards. It's a massacre in the morgue, it's echoes from the other world, it's crazy and terrifying visions. And all of this together makes for a literally killer cocktail. I trust the band with every note, every note. So I have no choice but to recommend the new album "Immortalized" to you. Nobody came to my funeral, and the coffin is the cheapest. I don't mind, I've long since succumbed to darkness and hell. All I need is music and a piece of rotten meat. A very fine affair for all true undertakers! Old school death metal par excellence!

Interview with blackened death metal band from Florida - HELLFROST.

Ave HELLFROST! I have never found any interview with you in Czech language. I will ask you first to introduce the band to the readers who do not know you yet. You can start from the beginning and take us through the whole history of HELLFROST.

Founded in 2010 by Dave Vainer as a solo endeavor in Naples, Florida, Hellfrost quickly captivated the local scene, evolving into a powerful project. Over the years, this entity has forged a legacy, birthing esteemed underground albums. In recent times, Hellfrost has experienced a resurgence with the addition of veteran drummer Angelo Duca and bassist Ryan Blackburn, propelling the band to new heights.

This year you are releasing the new album „Hellfrost“. Again, it's a dark, harsh and honestthrash/death/black metal. Did you access to the recording process differently than last time or did you choose verified practices?

The recording process for our self titled album was a lot different than how we did things before. This is the first Hellfrost album to feature live drums since Pagan Son (2016) the first Hellfrost album to be released without long term member Syd Vainer playing bass and our first album released by a record label. I got in contact with Derek Roddy through a close friend of mine who told me that he has a recording studio in Deerfield Beach Florida. If you follow Derek Roddy, he's known to have a reputation of doing only one or two takes per song in the studio, and that's what he was expecting from us. Believe it or not, most of the work we did for the album was done at our rehearsal space and not at the studio. By the time we got to the studio we were near 100% ready to start recording. Derek was great to record with. There was no ego about any of it and it felt like I was just hanging out with the guys. We recorded the whole album in about 2 days. The next step after that was the mixing process. The mixing was actually the part that took the longest. It took several tries to get everything the way we thought it should sound however, when we sent in our mix to the label they rejected it. This was a disappointment for us and we were arguing amongst each other on what to do for the best solution. After talking about it for a few weeks and sleeping on it, we decided to ask my brother Syd Vainer to come back to the studio with us to remix the album. The final mix turned out great and that's what you hear on the album.


The new album seems to me more complicated, perhaps initially less accessible, at the same time incredibly dark and evil. Was it intentional? How did the album originate and how did you compose themusic?

So a lot of the new album I composed myself. I studied songwriting and music theory and to me there's no better feeling than playing a new song with the band for the first time. After the release of our last album Dark Ages (2021), Hellfrost broke up. We lost our drummer and long time member Syd Vainer. Despite everything, I was determined to keep the band going. I used a lot of this downtime to focus on writing new songs to build a foundation to reform the band. After months of reaching out to people and months of auditions, I met current drummer Angelo Duca. Once I had a solid drummer in the mix, I knew that I'd be able to find the rest of the musicians I needed. Working with Angelo, I continued working on new songs and auditioning guitarists and bassists. After another few months of auditions I met current bassist Ryan Blackburn. Despite his lack of experience playing in bands, Ryan really rose to the occasion and did a killer job in the studio.

I have a „Hellfrost“ in my MP3 player and I have to say that this album literally engulfed me. These are not just great ideas but also sound is simply devastating. I'm sitting in the tram, and suddenly I find myself shaking my legs. I have a feeling to start moshing. If I weren’t so old, I would probably start to.Where did you record and who is signed under mastering?

As I mentioned earlier in the interview, we recorded the album in Deerfield Beach Florida and it was recorded by Derek Roddy. Our album was mastered at Imperial Mastering by Colin Davis of the band Vile . Colin has a long resume of bands that he mastered over the years and we're really happy with the job he did on our album. The sound of our self-titled album is our best work yet and it accurately represents the full Hellfrost experience the best way possible without you actually being there to see us live.


Who is the author of lyrics on „Hellfrost“? What are they talking about? Where do you get inspiration for themes?

All of the lyrics were written by myself. I'm always reading news stories, books, articles, watching movies, talking to and meeting all kinds of different people. I'm always on the hunt for the next topic to write about. A lot of my inspiration for the lyrics come from real life events. The song Microplastics is about the plastic in the ocean. It's a well known fact that we are destroying the planet and that's really brutal. The song Megalodon was inspired by the movie The Meg. Artificial Intelligence delves into the topic of technology taking over and replacing the human aspect of life. Overall, each songs stands alone with their strong messages. Hellfrost lyrics are all about being relatable to our fans and relatable to potentially new fans.

Who is signed under the cover of „Hellfrost“? I like his work very much. How did you choose the motif for cover?

The artist that illustrated our album cover was Ipoet Poetra from Five Miligrams Art. Since our album is titled "Hellfrost '' we needed an image that accurately depicts what you would imagine when you hear the name Hellfrost and that's what we get. The album cover features Satan emerging from a frozen lake while simultaneously destroying humanity. Life is made up of a balance of good and evil, sometimes you get a string of good times and sometimes you get a stroke of tragedy but no matter what happens, things always shift to the opposite state.



When we look back at the beginning ... What was the first impulse to found the band? And why the thrash/death/black metal? It's not the typical style which can would give you great "glory".

The music that I write is the music that I love. Growing up, thrash, black and death metal were always my favorites. I was always an outcast and didn't fit in, metal made it cool to be different. I never resonated with mainstream rock or pop. Maybe I'm the crazy one but when I hear happy uplifting music, it makes me feel angry and anxious. The music I write for Hellfrost just feels right to me and it all comes naturally.

You come from Florida and you play extreme thrash/death/black metal. Our readers would certainly wonder how the metal scene works in your country. To tell you the truth, so lately I hear only the great bands from there. Does this mean that the scene there is so strong at the moment? What about concerts, how many people coming to them?

The music scene in south Florida is always evolving. During the pandemic, Florida was the most lenient with restrictions in the country. Florida was the first state to lift the mask mandate and Florida didn't require the vaccine for anyone. All of these factors lead to a huge influx of people moving to Florida from all over the US. With all of these people moving in, this gave the music scene a chance to grow. Now there are more music fans, more musicians and more bands than ever before. I'm really happy to see all of this growth because it opens up countless opportunities.


From your music is possible to feel that you are influenced by American thrash death metal school and as well by the old European bands. How do you feel about it as a fan? Do you prefer the original metal of the 1990s or do you get inspiration as well from the new albums? If yes so I am wondering which bands had the greatest impact on HELLFROST.

As a metalhead I appreciate all of the classics. I grew up listening to all of the typical 70's, 80's and 90's metal bands. You all ready who the are. All of those bands were my early influences. These days I'm into vinyl and cassettes and I do a lot of pre-orders and blind buys. Some of my favorite new releases are Skalmold- Ydalir, Warmen- Here for None ,Tyrant- The Lowest Level, and Marduk- Momento Mori. As a current artist I feel it's important to keep up to date with our contemporaries.

What about you and concerts in general? Are you a band that goes for concerts anytime you can or you are picky about where you will play? Do you have a dream, maybe a group you would like to go with for a tour or festival, a city where you would like to perform?

Our booking usually goes in cycles. We like to book a lot of gigs for a few months and then stop playing for a little while. We use this down time to work on song writting and promoting. Right now, we're in a state of downtime and we are looking for the best booking agency to represent us. Our goal is to get on to bigger shows with bigger bands. Every time Hellfrost plays live, we build a connection with the fans and we make friends in every city we visit. My favorite fans are the people who don't know who we are and stick around to watch our set.

  

I'm going to listen again your new album „Hellfrost“. I have to say that for me personally, this is basically a perfect thrash/black death metal work. Totally inferno. Ave HELLFROST! Nikde jsem s vámi nenašel žádný rozhovor v češtině. Poprosím tě tedy nejdřív, abys čtenářům, kteří vás ještě neznají, představil kapelu. Můžeš klidně začít úplně od začátku a provést nás celou historií HELLFROST.

Skupina Hellfrost, kterou v roce 2010 založil Dave Vainer v Naples na Floridě jako sólový projekt, rychle zaujala místní scénu a stala se silným projektem. V průběhu let si tento subjekt vytvořil odkaz a vydal ceněná undergroundová alba. V poslední době Hellfrost zažívá oživení, když se k němu přidali bubenický veterán Angelo Duca a baskytarista Ryan Blackburn, což kapelu vyneslo do nových výšin.

Letos vydáváte čerstvou novinku „Hellfrost“. Opět se jedná o temný, drsný a poctivý thrash/death/black metal. Přistupovali jste k nahrávání jinak než minule nebo jste zvolili ověřené postupy?

Proces nahrávání našeho vlastního alba se hodně lišil od toho, jak jsme to dělali předtím. Je to první album Hellfrost s živými bicími od alba Pagan Son (2016), první album Hellfrost, které vyšlo bez dlouholetého člena Syda Vainera hrajícího na basu, a naše první album vydané nahrávací společností. S Derekem Roddym jsem se dostal do kontaktu přes svého blízkého přítele, který mi řekl, že má nahrávací studio v Deerfield Beach na Floridě. Pokud sledujete Dereka Roddyho, je o něm známo, že má pověst člověka, který ve studiu dělá jen jeden nebo dva záběry na jednu písničku, a přesně to od nás očekával. Věřte tomu nebo ne, ale většinu práce na albu jsme dělali v naší zkušebně, a ne ve studiu. Než jsme se dostali do studia, byli jsme téměř stoprocentně připraveni začít nahrávat. S Derekem se mi nahrávalo skvěle. Nebylo v tom žádné ego a připadal jsem si, jako bych se s klukama jen tak poflakoval. Celé album jsme nahráli asi za dva dny. Dalším krokem pak bylo míchání. Mixování byla vlastně ta část, která trvala nejdéle. Trvalo několik pokusů, než se nám podařilo dostat vše tak, jak jsme si mysleli, že by to mělo znít, nicméně když jsme poslali náš mix do vydavatelství, odmítli ho. To pro nás bylo zklamání a dohadovali jsme se mezi sebou, co udělat pro nejlepší řešení. Poté, co jsme o tom několik týdnů mluvili a spali nad tím, jsme se rozhodli požádat mého bratra Syda Vainera, aby se s námi vrátil do studia a album zremixoval. Výsledný mix dopadl skvěle a to je to, co na albu uslyšíte.


Nová deska mi přijde o nějaký řád komplikovanější, zpočátku možná méně přístupná, zároveň ale neskutečně temná a zlá. Byl to záměr? Jak vlastně album vznikalo a jakým způsobem jste skládali muziku?

Takže velkou část nového alba jsem složil sám. Studoval jsem skládání písní a hudební teorii a pro mě není lepší pocit, než když poprvé hrajeme novou píseň s kapelou. Po vydání našeho posledního alba Dark Ages (2021) se Hellfrost rozpadli. Přišli jsme o bubeníka a dlouholetého člena Syda Vainera. Navzdory všemu jsem byl odhodlaný kapelu udržet v chodu. Hodně jsem tento výpadek využil k tomu, abych se soustředil na psaní nových písní a vybudoval tak základ pro reformu kapely. Po měsících oslovování lidí a měsících konkurzů jsem potkal současného bubeníka Angela Ducu. Jakmile jsem měl pevného bubeníka, věděl jsem, že se mi podaří najít i ostatní potřebné muzikanty. Ve spolupráci s Angelem jsem pokračoval v práci na nových písních a v konkurzech na kytaristy a baskytaristy. Po dalších několika měsících konkurzů jsem se seznámil se současným baskytaristou Ryanem Blackburnem. I přes nedostatek zkušeností s hraním v kapelách se Ryan opravdu zhostil své role a ve studiu odvedl skvělou práci.

Mám „Hellfrost“ ve svém MP3 přehrávači a musím říct, že jsem jím doslova pohlcen. Nejsou to jen skvělé nápady, ale i zvuk, který je jedním slovem devastující. Sedím třeba v tramvaji a najednou se přistihnu, že si podupávám nohou. Mám sto chutí začít pařit. Nebýt už pán v letech, asi bych to i udělal. Kde jste desku nahrávali a kdo je podepsán pod masteringem?

Jak už jsem zmínil v rozhovoru, album jsme nahrávali v Deerfield Beach na Floridě a nahrával ho Derek Roddy. Naše album masteroval v Imperial Mastering Colin Davis z kapely Vile. Colin má za sebou dlouhý životopis kapel, kterým v průběhu let dělal mastering, a my jsme s prací, kterou na našem albu odvedl, opravdu spokojeni. Zvuk našeho stejnojmenného alba je zatím naším nejlepším počinem a přesně představuje plnohodnotný zážitek z Hellfrost tím nejlepším možným způsobem, aniž byste nás skutečně viděli naživo.


Kdo je autorem textů na „Hellfrost“? A o čem pojednávají? Kde pro témata berete inspiraci?

Všechny texty jsem napsal sám. Neustále čtu zprávy, knihy, články, sleduji filmy, mluvím s různými lidmi a setkávám se s nimi. Vždycky jsem na lovu dalšího tématu, o kterém bych mohl psát. Hodně inspirace pro texty čerpám ze skutečných událostí. Píseň Mikroplasty je o plastech v oceánu. Je všeobecně známo, že ničíme planetu, a to je opravdu brutální. Píseň Megalodon byla inspirována filmem The Meg. Umělá inteligence se zabývá tématem technologie, která přebírá a nahrazuje lidský aspekt života. Celkově každá z písní obstojí sama o sobě se svým silným poselstvím. V textech Hellfrost jde především o to, aby se k nim mohli vyjádřit naši fanoušci a aby se k nim mohli vyjádřit potenciální noví fanoušci.

Kdo je podepsán pod obalem novinky „Hellfrost“? Jeho práce se mi hodně líbí. Jak jste vůbec motiv na obal vybírali?

Obal našeho alba ilustroval Ipoet Poetra ze společnosti Five Miligrams Art. Jelikož se naše album jmenuje "Hellfrost", potřebovali jsme obrázek, který by přesně vystihoval to, co si představíte, když uslyšíte název Hellfrost, a to se nám povedlo. Na obalu alba je Satan vystupující ze zamrzlého jezera a zároveň ničící lidstvo. Život se skládá z rovnováhy dobra a zla, někdy vás potká šňůra dobrých časů a někdy vás zasáhne tragédie, ale ať se stane cokoli, věci se vždy posunou do opačného stavu.


Když se ještě podíváme do začátku…Co bylo vlastně tím prvním impulsem, že jste dali dohromady kapelu? A proč zrovna thrash black death metal? Není to zrovna styl, který by vám získal velkou „slávu“.

Hudba, kterou píšu, je hudba, kterou mám rád. Když jsem vyrůstal, vždycky jsem měl nejradši thrash, black a death metal. Vždycky jsem byl vyděděnec a nezapadal jsem, díky metalu bylo cool být jiný. Nikdy jsem nerezonoval s mainstreamovým rockem nebo popem. Možná jsem blázen, ale když slyším veselou povznášející hudbu, vyvolává ve mně vztek a úzkost. Hudba, kterou píšu pro Hellfrost, mi prostě připadá správná a všechno přichází přirozeně.

Pocházíte z Floridy a hrajete extrémní thrash/death/black metal. Naše čtenáře by určitě zajímalo, jak funguje vaše metalová scéna? Abych pravdu řekl, tak poslední dobou od vás slyším jen samé skvělé smečky. Znamená to, že je u vás v současnosti scéna hodně silná? Co třeba koncerty, kolik chodí lidí?

Hudební scéna na jižní Floridě se neustále vyvíjí. Během pandemie byla Florida nejmírnější v omezeních v celé zemi. Florida byla prvním státem, který zrušil povinnost nosit roušku, a Florida nevyžadovala očkování pro nikoho. Všechny tyto faktory vedly k obrovskému přílivu lidí, kteří se na Floridu stěhovali z celých USA. Díky tomu, že se všichni tito lidé stěhovali, měla hudební scéna šanci se rozvíjet. Nyní je zde více hudebních fanoušků, více hudebníků a více kapel než kdykoli předtím. Jsem opravdu rád, že vidím všechen tento růst, protože to otevírá nespočet příležitostí.


Z vaší hudby je cítit, že jste ovlivněni jak americkou thrash death metalovou školou, tak i starými evropskými kapelami. Jak jste na tom jako fanoušci? Máte radši původní metal devadesátých let nebo čerpáte inspiraci i z nových desek? Pokud ano, zajímalo by mě, které smečky měly/mají na HELLFROST největší vliv.

Jako metalista si cením všech klasik. Vyrůstal jsem na všech typických metalových kapelách 70., 80. a 90. let. Všichni jste připraveni, kdo to je. Všechny tyhle kapely byly mými prvními vlivy. V dnešní době se věnuji vinylům a kazetám a dělám hodně předobjednávek a nákupů naslepo. Mezi mé oblíbené novinky patří Skalmold - Ydalir, Warmen - Here for None ,Tyrant - The Lowest Level a Marduk - Momento Mori. Jako současný umělec cítím, že je důležité držet krok s našimi současníky.

Co vlastně vy a koncerty obecně? Jste kapelou, která jezdí po koncertech, co to jenom jde nebo si hodně vybíráte? Máte nějaký sen, třeba skupinu, se kterou byste chtěli vyrazit na turné nebo festival, město, kde byste chtěli vystupovat?

Naše rezervace obvykle probíhají v cyklech. Rádi si na několik měsíců objednáme spoustu koncertů a pak na chvíli přestaneme hrát. Tento čas využíváme k práci na psaní písní a propagaci. Právě teď jsme ve stavu prostoje a hledáme nejlepší bookingovou agenturu, která by nás zastupovala. Naším cílem je dostat se na větší koncerty s většími kapelami. Pokaždé, když Hellfrost hraje naživo, budujeme si vztah s fanoušky a v každém městě, které navštívíme, si uděláme přátele. Nejraději mám fanoušky, kteří nevědí, kdo jsme, a zůstanou se dívat na náš set.


Jdu si vaši novou desku „Hellfrost“ znovu pustit. Musím říct, že pro mě osobně se jedná v podstatě dokonalé thrash/black death metalové dílo. Totální inferno. Přeji vám, aby se nahrávce dařilo, aby se dostala k co největšímu počtu fanoušků. Zaslouží si to. Přeji vám vše nejlepší i v osobním životě. Ať se vám daří a poslední slova jsou tvoje. My už dávno nemusíme nikomu nic dokazovat. Když jste totiž začínali s hudbou v devadesátých letech minulého století a zůstali jste ji věrni po celou dobu svých obyčejných životů, tak víte své. Vyrůstali jsme mezi starými hroby, spali jsme v márnicích a poslouchali jenom black metal, který je opravdový a uvěřitelný. Našimi nejlepšími přáteli byli vždy nemrtví a démoni, kteří stejně jako německá kapela DETHRONED vždy nejlépe pochopili, o čem je chlad a tma. 

Pokaždé, když píšu o této black metalové legendě, jsem pokorný. Moc dobře si totiž pamatuji jejich kultovní demonahrávky z let 1995 - 1997. Pánové se po dlouhé odmlce mezi lety 1999 a 2007 vrátili a jsou silnější než kdy dřív. Oheň znovu hoří jasným černým plamenem. Nové album "A Bridge to Eternal Darkness" je toho jasným důkazem. 


Pokaždé, když jdu kolem kostela, tak si uvědomím, jak je víra slepá. Raději ráno ulehnu do své rakve a rouhám se spolu s DETHRONED. Jejich kov je špinavý, chladný, syrový, ale nezapomíná se ani na melodie, které v sobě obsahují takové zvláštní, nebál bych se napsat až melancholické nálady. Faktem, který velmi oceňuji je, že má kapela svůj jasný rukopis. Jasně, základem jsou klasické a tradiční postupy z norských a švédských katakomb, ale pánové přidávají i kus sebe samých. Vždy jsem vnímal jejich hudbu spíše jako obřad, jako pochmurné seance, než jenom jako muziku. Je samozřejmé, že si pánové dali pozor na zvuk, na obal, na celkovou produkci a dojem. Vše sedí perfektně na svých místech. Ne, novinka není přelomovým albem metalových dějin, ale to ani není účelem. Hraje se zde od srdce, uvěřitelně, s takovou tou těžko popsatelnou silou a energií, kterou musíte mít v sobě. Němci nadále bojují s nebem a dělají to velmi elegantně, zkušeně a uvěřitelně. Jestli jste, stejně jako já, zhnuseni lidmi, zprávami, celkovou atmosférou současného světa, potom je "A Bridge to Eternal Darkness" určeno i pro vás. Tohle je nahrávka pro fanoušky, kteří žijí dlouhé roky ve stínu a dovedou ocenit poctivost a mrtvolnou atmosféru. V ulicích se zase toulají přízraky. Hledají marně svoji cestu. Teprve, až si poslechnout tuhle desku, najdou svůj cíl. Chladnou, syrovou a krutou smrt. Za mě, starého metalového psa, nelze jinak, než novinku doporučit všem tmářům, zatraceným i démonům. Mystický, mrazivý black metalový obřad pro všechny prokleté!

We don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. After all, if you started with music in the 1990s and have remained faithful to it throughout your ordinary lives, you know your stuff. We grew up among old graves, slept in morgues and listened only to black metal that was real and believable. Our best friends have always been the undead and demons, who, like the German band DETHRONED, have always understood best what coldness and darkness is all about. 

Every time I write about this black metal legend, I am humbled. Because I remember very well their cult demos from 1995 - 1997. After a long hiatus between 1999 and 2007, the gentlemen are back and stronger than ever. The fire is burning bright black again. The new album "A Bridge to Eternal Darkness" is a clear proof of that.


Every time I walk by a church, I realize how blind faith is. I'd rather lie down in my coffin in the morning and blaspheme along with DETHRONED. Their metal is dirty, cold, raw, but they don't forget the melodies, which contain such strange, I wouldn't be afraid to write melancholic moods. The fact that I appreciate very much is that the band has its clear signature. Sure, the basis is classic and traditional methods from Norwegian and Swedish catacombs, but the gentlemen add a piece of themselves as well. I've always seen their music as more of a ceremony, a somber seance, than just music. It goes without saying that the gentlemen have paid attention to the sound, to the packaging, to the overall production and feel. Everything fits perfectly in place. No, the new album is not a breakthrough album in metal history, but that's not the point either. It is played from the heart, believably, with that hard-to-describe power and energy that you have to have inside you. The Germans continue to fight the sky and they do it very elegantly, expertly and believably. If you, like me, are disgusted by the people, the news, the general atmosphere of the world today, then "A Bridge to Eternal Darkness" is for you too. This is a record for fans who have lived in the shadows for years and can appreciate honesty and deadpan atmosphere. There are ghosts roaming the streets again. searching in vain for their way. Only when they listen to this record will they find their destination. Cold, raw and cruel death. On behalf of me, an old metal dog, I can't help but recommend this new release to all darkies, cursed and demons alike. A mystical, freezing black metal ritual for all the damned!

Můžeme se tvářit, že neexistuje, můžeme před ní zavírat oči. Ale stejně nakonec vyplave na povrch. Jako mrtvola z řeky, jako krev na hladinu. Smrt opravdu existuje. Žádná umělá neosobní krematoria na tom nic nezmění. Rozdíl mezi fikcí a realitou poznáte, když vám někdo zabodne nůž do břicha. Pokud máte plné zuby pozérských kapel v lesklých magazínech a oceňujete na extrémní hudbě spíše realitu, energii a tlak, tak bych pro vás měl jeden tip. WALKING CROPSE pochází ze Švédska a rozsekají vás na malé kousky.

Pánové hrají grindcore, ale nebojí se ani death metalových chvilek morbidní poezie. Kapela nepoužívá žádný filtr na to, aby byla hezčí, víc sexy a aby jim dámy házely kalhotky na pódium. Naopak, poslech "Our Hands, Your Throat" připomíná spíše návštěvu starých jatek, na kterých se zabíjelo ještě postaru. Sekerou přímo mezi oči. 


Na zdech je zaschlá krev a všude je cítit bolest a strach. Mám neodbytný pocit, že mě za chvilku naporcují do salámu. Švédi zde museli svoji novou desku nahrávat, jinak to nevidím. jestli máte rádi kapely jako ROTTEN SOUND, FUCK THE FACTS, BATHUB SHITTER, TERRA BUILDER, SPURN, ANTIGAMA, ERNIA, tak dávejte velký pozor! Hraje se zde hlavně pro vás i pro všechny nadšené amatérské řezníky a patology. Správný grindcore musí bolet, musí vás po něm pálit vnitřnosti. WALKING CROPSE tohle všechno umí a přidávají ještě obrovskou porci zkaženého masa navíc. Je to jízda od začátku do konce. Nekompromisní nářez, ale také spousta chladných a temných nálad a atmosféry. Netřeba diskutovat o zvuku, ani o obalu. Vše je perfektní a krásně se hodí k hudbě, kterou nám tihle maniaci předkládají. Songy v sobě mají potřebnou sílu a drive, vztek a nakumulovanou nenávist ke všemu živému. Prostým faktem je, že vás "Our Hands, Your Throat" spálí na popel, zničí a extrahují vám všechny zuby z pusy. Nevím, jestli jste na tom někdy stejně jako já, ale mě když je úzko a padá na mě splín ze současného světa, tak potřebuji podobnou hudbu, abych přežil. Svět totiž není jen nepřetržité pásmo krásných reklam, ale má i svoji odvrácenou tvář. Hnusné mučírny, války a zvrácené jedince, kteří vám dokáží ze života udělat peklo. Tuhle nahrávku bych pouštěl do ksichtu všech hajzlům. Temný, zničující grindcore, která vám rozdrtí obličej na krvavou kaši!

We can pretend it doesn't exist, we can turn a blind eye to it. But it will still surface eventually. Like a corpse from the river, like blood on the surface. Death does exist. No amount of artificial, impersonal crematoria will change that. You can tell the difference between fiction and reality when someone sticks a knife in your stomach. If you're fed up with the poser bands in glossy magazines and appreciate reality, energy and pressure in extreme music, I have a tip for you. WALKING CROPSE hail from Sweden and will chop you up into little pieces.

The gentlemen play grindcore, but they are not afraid of death metal moments of morbid poetry. The band doesn't use any filter to make them prettier, sexier or to make the ladies throw their panties on stage. On the contrary, listening to "Our Hands, Your Throat" is more like a visit to an old abattoir where they used to kill the old-fashioned way. With an axe right between the eyes.


There is dried blood on the walls, and pain and fear everywhere. I have a nagging feeling that I'm about to be sliced into sausage. If you like bands like ROTTEN SOUND, FUCK THE FACTS, BATHUB SHITTER, TERRA BUILDER, SPURN, ANTIGAMA, ERNIA, pay attention! It's mainly played here for you and all the enthusiastic amateur butchers and pathologists. Proper grindcore must hurt, it must make your guts burn. WALKING CROPSE does all this and adds a huge portion of extra rotten meat. It's a ride from start to finish. An uncompromising blast, but also a lot of cold and dark moods and atmosphere. No need to discuss the sound or the cover art. Everything is perfect and fits beautifully with the music these maniacs present to us. The songs have the necessary power and drive, anger and accumulated hatred for all living things. The simple fact is that "Our Hands, Your Throat" will burn you to ashes, destroy you and extract all your teeth from your mouth. I don't know if you're ever in the same place as me, but when I'm feeling anxious and the fullness of the current world is crashing down on me, I need music like this to survive. Because the world is not just a continuous stream of beautiful commercials, but it has its flipside. Ugly torture chambers, wars and twisted individuals who can make your life a living hell. I'd play this tape in the faces of all the bastards. Dark, devastating grindcore that will smash your face to a bloody pulp!

Otevřel jsem staré rezavé dveře a sestoupil dolů. Sklepení, ve kterém byl vchod do podzemí. Nevím, jak to máte nastavené vy, ale já poslední roky moc nemusím světlo. Poslouchám metal možná až příliš dlouho a po těch více než třiceti letech si hodně vybírám, co si pořídím do své sbírky. Musím z hudby cítit sílu a energii. Nadšení a musejí mi praskat kosti. Polské black deathaře BONESNAP jsem objevil víceméně náhodou. Všude kolem mě byla tma a v jedné kobce se ještě svítilo. Hořel tam oheň a hrála se muzika, které mě ihned přikovala na zeď. Někdy se toulám jenom tak, bez cíle. A objevím kapelu, která mě opravdu baví.

Je to nahrubo nasekaná tma. S chladným a drtivým zvukem (Mastered by Paweł 'Janos' Grabowski at JNS Studio, Mixed by Julian Konowalski), s obalem (Cover artwork and layout design by Maciej Kamuda), který mi připomíná staré vyschlé mumie, opředené pavučinami. Po formální stránce je vše v absolutním pořádku. To by ale bylo v dnešní podivné době málo. Poláci přidávají něco navíc. Kus shnilého masa, které vám hodí přímo do obličeje.


Je to masakr, ale inteligentně a chytře složený. Skladby v sobě mají drive a sílu, takovou tu patinu, která lze velmi těžko popsat. Zkrátka a jednoduše, když jsem před lety zakládal tyhle stránky o undergroundové muzice, měl jsem na mysli právě smečky jako BONESNAP, které budu podporovat. Šest propracovaných songů, které zní jako hřeby do rakve, které vám jednou zatlučou, abyste nemohli utéct z hrobu. Během celého EP se vine jako jedovatý had takový zvláštní neklid, chvění, chcete-li. Silné melodie jsou kombinovány se zničujícími pasážemi. A tohle všechno je zabaleno do krvavé mlhy. Zhasněte všechna světla a přivítejte ve svém přehrávači přízraky ze starých plesnivých hrobů. Záměrně nebudu tvorbu kapely k nikomu přirovnávat, udělejte si názor sami podle přiložených ukázek. Já mohu jenom potvrdit, že návštěva katakomb ve společnosti těchto tmářů byla pro mě vždy velmi příjemná. Prosévali jsme mezi prsty prach, drtili staré kosti a exhumovali jenom ty nejkrásnější mrtvoly. Jasně, pánové a dáma neobjevují nic nového, ale rozhodně se nespokojili jen s dobrým řemeslem. Naopak, cítím a slyším, že dali do hudby kus sebe samého, obrovskou porci nadšení pro temnotu. Všude kolem mě byla tma a v jedné kobce se ještě svítilo. Hořel tam oheň a hrála se muzika, které mě ihned přikovala na zeď. Někdy se toulám jenom tak, bez cíle. A já zase jednou vím, že jsem zde správně. Protože "Inhale the Void" hoří jasným černým plamenem. Uvrhne vás do absolutní temnoty. Smrt je zase jednou velmi blízko. Black death metalové inferno s příchutí chladu, bolesti a šílenství!

I opened the old rusty door and went downstairs. The basement, which was the entrance to the underground. I don't know what your setup is, but I haven't been too fond of light lately. I've been listening to metal for maybe too long, and after more than thirty years I'm very selective about what I get for my collection. I need to feel the power and energy from the music. The enthusiasm and my bones must be cracking. I discovered Polish black deathtars BONESNAP more or less by accident. It was dark all around me and there were still lights on in one dungeon. There was a fire burning and music playing, which immediately pinned me to the wall. Sometimes I just wander around, aimlessly. And I find a band that I really enjoy.

It's rough-hewn darkness. With a cold and crushing sound (Mastered by Paweł 'Janos' Grabowski at JNS Studio, Mixed by Julian Konowalski), with a cover (Cover artwork and layout design by Maciej Kamuda) that reminds me of old dried up mummies, covered in cobwebs. Formally, everything is absolutely fine. But that wouldn't be enough in these strange times. The Poles add something extra. A piece of rotten meat thrown in your face.


It's a massacre, but intelligently and cleverly composed. The songs have drive and power, a patina that is very hard to describe. Quite simply, when I started this site about underground music years ago, it was packs like BONESNAP that I had in mind and that I would support. Six sophisticated songs that sound like nails in a coffin that will one day hammer you so you can't escape the grave. Throughout the EP, a strange kind of restlessness winds like a poisonous snake, a trembling if you will. Strong melodies are combined with devastating passages. And all this is wrapped in a bloody fog. Turn off all the lights and welcome the ghosts from the old moldy graves in your player. I'm deliberately not going to compare the band's work to anyone, make up your own mind by looking at the attached samples. I can only confirm that visiting the catacombs in the company of these obscurantists has always been very pleasant for me. We sifted the dust between our fingers, crushed old bones and exhumed only the most beautiful corpses. Sure, the gentlemen and lady weren't discovering anything new, but they certainly weren't content with just good craftsmanship. On the contrary, I can feel and hear that they put a piece of themselves into the music, a huge portion of passion for the darkness. It was dark all around me, and in one dungeon there were still lights on. There was a fire burning and music playing that immediately pinned me to the wall. Sometimes I just wander, aimlessly. And once again, I know I'm right here. Because "Inhale the Void" burns with a bright black flame. It plunges you into absolute darkness. Death is once again very close. Black death metal inferno with a taste of cold, pain and madness!
