Když jsem před lety s Knižními tipy začínal, nevěděl jsem moc, jak s nimi naložit. Stejně jako u hudebních recenzí jsem se nikdy nesnažil jen tak opisovat promo materiály. Pokaždé si udělám svůj názor, který pak sepíšu. Můj styl se mi osvědčil, ale to jsem měl ověřené u recenzí na nové desky. S knihami je to trošku jiné. Nesmíte totiž prozradit dopředu, o čem děj je, protože jinak čtenáře naštvete. U detektivek přeci nikdo nechce vědět, kdo je vrah. Knihy o Minierovi byly mezi prvními, o kterých jsem psal. Začínal jsem v dobách covidu, kdy bylo na čtení víc času. Také jsem víc rozjel sociální síť twitter (dnes X) a náhoda tomu chtěla, že po mém uveřejnění knižního tipu na jednu ze starších knih mi najednou píše sám mistr a že moc děkuje. Chodil jsem pak po bytě a byl takový pyšný. Uvědomil jsem si, že to má smysl, že stále existují lidé, kteří rádi čtou, podporují a diskutují o dobrých knihách. Autorova slova potom byla pověstnou třešničkou na dortu.
Utekla nějaká ta voda, svět se po covidu otevřel a já zjistil, že jsem byl přeci jen trošku bláhový v tom, číst jednu knížku za týden. Na to nemám kvůli práci, rodině a muzice čas. A tak jsem začal psát i o starých knihách, které mě kdysi ovlivnily. Pojďme ale k novince. Opět Knihy Dobrovský, jejich sleva a brzká ranní Zásilkovna. Kniha je venku asi týden a já se do ní ihned pustil. Mám totiž styl, jakým píše Minier, hrozně rád. Tentokrát se vydáme za jedním podivným hororovým režisérem a pochopitelně i sérií brutálních vražd. Servaze je opět ve velmi dobré formě. Ani jsem nevěděl, jaké bylo venku počasí. Nasadil jsem si tentokrát sluchátka, zapnul ANC a odhlučnil vše kolem mě. Tohle je geniální věc, kterou používám i v práci, abych se mohl soustředit. Abych vypnul stále stejné kecy kolegů. Uzavřel jsem se do sebe, ponořil se do příběhu a najednou koukám, že je pozdě, že už šla spát i moje milá žena. Koukám z okna a říkám si, že bych měl jít taky do pelechu. Ještě kapitolu, ok? Vyjednávám sám se sebou, abych nakonec ráno vstával jak mátoha.
Minier umí vždy perfektně popsat prostředí i postavy. Jejich temnou stránku, o které jsem si vždy myslel, že je u každého hluboko ukrytá a jen u pokřivených osob vypluje na povrch. Jenže to bylo ještě v době, kdy člověk neměl sociální sítě. Teď už je tomu zcela jinak. Bývám stále překvapený, co o sobě někteří prozradí. Připadá mi, že existuje ještě jeden paralelní svět, plný hnusu a špíny, zvráceností a nízkých pudů. Detektivky tohle všechno popisují, ale vy víte, že je to jen výplod fantazie. Přiznám se, že mi to v dnešní době pomáhá přežít. Občas si říkám, že jsem asi divný, ale já si fakt raději čtu, než abych třeba chodil do hospody. Dřív to bylo jiné, bavilo mě pokecat s lidmi, jen tak, zvesela. Jenže poslední roky si čím dál tím častěji zalezu a dávám si různé knižní dobroty. Jako fanoušek mistra Miniera jsem nemohl jinak. Mě pokaždé totiž baví mimo příběhu i různé jeho odbočky, zamyšlení hlavního hrdiny. Jsme tak nějak v podobném věku a znáte to - do důchodu daleko a mládí v prdeli. Děti už vyrostly a konečně je trošku víc času. Tak proč jej nevěnovat něčemu smysluplnému. Třeba knihám a muzice.
Ztratil jsem se v horách a neskutečně se těšil, až zase vyrazím do Jizerek. Teď tam nemůžu, ale moc dobře vím, že si Oko přečtu ještě jednou. Potřebuji tu správnou atmosféru. Bydlíme kousek od lesa. Moje fantazie opět pracovala na plné obrátky. Vrtalo mi hlavou, kdo bude vrah, jakým směrem se bude děj ubírat. Poslouchal jsem k tomu nové doom death metalové album mých oblíbených Švédů October Tide a řeknu vám, že během sychravých dnů neznám nic lepšího. Byl jsem po práci plavat a myslel jsem na knihu. Mám teď hodně i jiných starostí, ale mě čtení uklidňuje. Když čekám v nemocnici, jak dopadne manželce vyšetření. Měl bych se modlit, ale nedávám to. Raději si otevřu knihu a vůbec mi nevadí, že je kolem zápach desinfekce a šum pacientů i zdravotních sester. Jsem v horách a na zemi leží další mrtvola. Měl bych číst něco veselého, ale neumím to. Já musím mít napínavý příběh, něco, co mě chytí za vlasy a dovleče až do finále. Nemusím vám snad říkat, že v tomhle je Minier opravdu dobrý. Napětí by se dalo krájet.
Přiznám se, že jsem se knihy trošku bál. Jsem sice fanoušek hororů, ale spíše těch starých. To tak nějak patřilo ke vkusu každého dobrého metalisty. Pamatujete VHS kazety? Dost často jsem si při čtení Oka na svoje večery s videorekordérem vzpomněl. Člověk byl mladý, neopotřebovaný a díval se jen dopředu. Byl jsem knihomolem už jako malý. Jsem jím i dnes. A ani se to nesnažím léčit. Každý týden, pokud to čas dovolí, potřebuji další dávku. Oko mě dostalo. Je skvěle napsané, má drive i sílu. Spousta zvratů, dějových linek, přesně jak to mám u Miniera rád. Za mě určitě doporučuji. Venku je podzim v plné síle, ale mě to vůbec nevadí. Půjdu se projít do lesa, pak si doma zacvičím. A potom si dám zase sluchátka na uši a otevřu si knihu. Pokud jste na tom jako já (což asi jste, protože jinak byste se nedostali až sem), tak se pohodlně usaďte a nechte si chutnat. Je to dobrota! Děkuji moc za pozornost.

Už chodím po tomhle světě nějakou dobu a stejně bývám stále překvapený, když potkám někoho, kdo je zlý, kdo v sobě má temnotu. Nejhorší bývají ti, kteří se navenek usmívají, jsou milí a příjemní a nakonec vám bodnou nůž do zad. Kněží, kteří káží o morálce a potom jsou ve večeních zprávách jako zrůdy, které ničí ostatním životy. Kolega z práce, který mlátí svoji ženu. Někdy je toho zla příliš, člověk má často pocit, že před ním nelze utéct, nelze se ukrýt. Bývám v podobných situacích naštvaný a poslouchám jenom dobrou hudbu. Není žádným tajemstvím, že mám pro hudbu téhle smečky slabost. Jsem starý pes a líbí se mi jejich zvuk - Tue Madsen (mixing, mastering), takový ten plesnivý odér, drive a síla, které mám v hudbě tolik rád. Pokud jste na tom stejně jako já a máte rádi poctivý thrash death metal, přidejte hlasitost.
SHADOWSPAWN staví na klasických, tradičních základech. Zároveň, a to je odlišuje od mnoha jiných, jsou stále svěží, živelní, divocí. Znáte to, člověk si přinese album domů, sedne si a těší se, jak bude znít. Po chvilce buď dojde ke vzájemnému přenosu emocí a nebo ne. U novinky jsem měl ihned pocit, že padám po zádech do hlubiny. Skladby jsou temné, chladné, dynamické a zběsilé zároveň. Dánové jsou groovy a vyříznou vám do mozku pořádně hlubokou ránu. Najednou budete daleko od falešných slov a úsměvů. Nikde žádná přetvářka a lež, jenom poctivá muzika, která řeže jako čerstvě nabroušený nůž. Stylově lze kapelu přirovnat třeba k takovým ASPHYX, BENEDICTION, BOLT THROWER, PESTILENCE, MALEVOLENT CREATION, MASTER, MERCYLLES. Dánové mají navíc spoustu svých, originálních nápadů a vlastní výraz. Připadám si prokletý, protože se musím k desce stále vracet. Pokaždé objevím nějaký nový motiv, stále se s chutí kývám do rytmu. Je pro mě příjemné trávit společný čas s "Blasphemica - Absolution Carved From Flesh". Mám pokaždé velkou chuť pustit album přímo do ksichtu všem, které ovládla temnota a zlo. Vymáchat jim obličej ve špinavé kaluži. Nová nahrávka se pro mě stala vždy skvělým zážitkem. Nezbývá mi nic jiného, než vám ji doporučit. Někdy je zla příliš, mám pocit, že před ním nelze utéct, nelze se ukrýt. Teď už vím, že budu vždycky bojovat. A u toho poslouchat tuhle skvělou desku. Temný, zničující death thrash metal, který vám pronikne hluboko do mysli!

Je brzy ráno a jdu zase do práce. Smog v ulicích, nenávist v srdcích. Každý se ohlíží neustále za sebe. Ošklivé morbidní vraždy, maniaci, kteří touží po krvi. Potkám několik sanitek a přemýšlím, kdy tohle šílenství začalo. Asi máme v sobě každý temnotu, kterou stačí jenom probudit. Tisíce zombie, skloněných k obrazovkám. Bylo to jako nějaká choroba, jako scény ze starých apokalyptických knih. Kruté představy se staly ještě horší realitou. Další zohavené tělo, další hnijící mrtvola.
Poslouchat GOATBURNER je jako potkat smečku rozzuřených prašivých psů. Nejdřív na vás zavrčí a vycení ostré zuby. Odkapává z nich krev, stejně jako z jednotlivých riffů a motivů jejich nové desky "Fatal". Posluchač dostane hodně syrovou a shnilou porci nahrubo nasekaného masa. Pokud máte rádi tradiční, klasický death grind, tak jste tady správně.
Kapelu tvoří dvojice zkušených maniaků, kteří působili v kapelách jako ROTTEN SOUND, BLOODLANDS, SKULMAGOT, MORBID EVILS, DESECRATOR. Není tedy divu, že veškeré formální věci jako je zvuk, obal, produkce a celkové provedení jsou v absolutním pořádku. K tomu si přidejte takové to poctivé nadšení, touhu zabíjet hudbou a dostanete nahrávku, která vás rozseká na kusy. Už jste někdy pitvali mrtvé tělo? Tahali jste ven vnitřnosti a měli ruce od zkažené krve? Tak potom určitě víte, o čem píšu. Nahrávka má velmi temnou, chladnou, morbidní atmosféru. Pánové ve skladbách odkazují na smečky jako CARCASS, REPULSION, ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER. K těmto základům přidávají velkou porci svých nápadů. Album je nejen v rámci stylu velmi pestré, mokvající, opravdu si připadám jako v nějaké smradlavé galerii, ve které jsou vystavena mrtvá těla. GOATBURNER hrají postaru, přesto zajímavě. Dokázali na mě přenést energii a sílu z chladných piteven. V některých momentech mám lehký pocit, že zazní i vzdálené sludgeové ozvěny nebo pár chvilek jako od CROWBAR. Tohle je hudba určená pro všechny poctivé patology, pro řezníky i úchylné zdravotní sestry. Nedávno jsem někde četl o nemocném šílenci, který pohřbíval mrtvoly v bažinách, songy se rozkládají a hnijí úplně stejně. Když poslouchám "Fatal", tak je brzy ráno a jdu zase do práce. Smog v ulicích, nenávist v srdcích. Ohlížím se neustále za sebe. Ošklivé morbidní vraždy, maniaci, kteří touží po krvi. Smrti se dávno nebojím, poslouchám totiž tuhle desku. Jsem lovcem i obětí, jsem démonem, našeptávačem, který sleduje celý tenhle lidský horor a usmívá se. Hraje se tady totiž pro mě i pro všechny kreatury. Mokvající, shnilý death grindový kus zkaženého masa podávaný na pitevním stole! Tepna byla proříznuta!

I meet a few ambulances and wonder when this madness started. I guess we all have a darkness inside us that just needs to be awakened. Thousands of zombies leaning against screens. It was like a disease, like a scene from an old apocalyptic book. Cruel imaginings became an even worse reality. Another mutilated body, another rotting corpse.
Listening to GOATBURNER is like meeting a pack of rabid mangy dogs. First they growl at you and bared their sharp teeth. Blood drips from them, as well as from individual riffs and motifs of their new album "Fatal". The listener gets a very raw and rotten portion of roughly chopped meat. If you like traditional, classic death grind, you've come to the right place.
The band consists of two experienced maniacs who have been in bands like ROTTEN SOUND, BLOODLANDS, SKULMAGOT, MORBID EVILS, DESECRATOR. So it's no surprise that all formal things like sound, packaging, production and overall performance are in absolute order. Add to that such honest enthusiasm, the desire to kill with music and you get a record that will blow you to pieces. Have you ever dissected a dead body? Have you pulled out the guts and had your hands covered in rotten blood? Then you must know what I'm writing about. The record has a very dark, cold, morbid atmosphere. The gentlemen in the tracks refer to packs like CARCASS, REPULSION, ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER. To these basics they add a big portion of their own ideas. The album is not only very colorful in style, it's wetting, I really feel like I'm in some smelly gallery where dead bodies are displayed. GOATBURNER play old-fashioned, yet interesting. They managed to bring me energy and power from the cold hangars. At some moments I have a slight feeling that there are even distant sludge echoes or a few CROWBAR-like moments. This is music for all honest pathologists, butchers and creepy nurses alike. I recently read somewhere about a sick lunatic burying corpses in swamps, the songs decompose and rot in exactly the same way. When I listen to "Fatal", it's early in the morning and I'm off to work again. Smog in the streets, hatred in the hearts. I'm always looking behind me. Ugly morbid murders, maniacs out for blood. I'm not afraid of death anymore, because I'm listening to this record. I'm the hunter and the hunted, I'm the demon, the whisperer who watches all this human horror and smiles. It's playing for me and for all the creatures. A soggy, rotten death grind piece of rotten meat served on an autopsy table! An artery has been cut!
Ve starých legendách se píše, že daleko v lesích, ve smradlavé jeskyni spí dlouhé roky šílená bestie. Občas se probudí a vydá na lov. To se potom v okolí začnou ztrácet lidé a můžete potkat kusy roztrhaných těl, zaschlé krve a hnisu. Dovolil bych si vás pozvat do jednoho takového doupěte v Austrálii. Ano, CEMETERY URN přicházejí s novou nahrávkou a garantují nám, že bestie bude znovu probuzena. A touží po čerstvém mase! Od prvního tónu je jasné, že zde máme co dočinění s pořádně naštvanou šelmou.
Není divu, v kapele působí maniaci z australské death metalové šlechty (Chris Volcano - ABOMINATOR, Brandon Gawith - ESKHATON, HOBB´S ANGEL OF DEATH). CEMETERY URN se do vás ihned zakousnou a nepustí vás, dokud budete tohle shnilé album poslouchat. Mám pocit, že mi pánové pustili žilou, že mě vyvrhli zaživa a donutili mě sníst vlastní vnitřnosti. Tohle je prašivý, starodávný rituál!
Skladby vystupují jako přízraky z krvavé mlhy a působí na mě podobným dojmem, jako tvorba smeček INCANTATION, FUNEBRARUM, DISMA, ABOMINATOR, IGNIVOMOUS. CEMETERY URN kombinují to nejlepší ze zlého smrtícího kovu a působí velmi uvěřitelně, ryze, opravdově. Žádné kompromisy a zbytečnosti, jenom nahrubo nasekaná tma a absolutní zlo. Pánové si pozvali ke spolupráci nejlepší z nejlepších. O zvuk se postaral mistr Adam Calaitzis z Toyland Studia a pod obalem je podepsán jeden z mých nejoblíbenějších malířů obalů Mark Riddick. Pokud máte jako já nejraději, když cítíte při poslechu pach rozkládajících se těl a hnilobu, neváhejte ani chvilku. Album "Suffer the Fallen" vás spálí na popel. Na to přísahám já, nemrtví i všichni démoni. Tahle smečka musela novinku nahrávat hluboko pod zemí, v dávno opuštěných katakombách. Mezi pavučinami, které jsou omotány kolem prašivých kostí. Líbí se mi výraz, rukopis, způsob, jakým na mě songy působí. Už dávno nejsem při poslechu v dnešním zlém světě. Procházím se ve smradlavých močálech, navštěvuji kobky plné mrtvých těl, užívám si celkovou atmosféru desky, která je doslova magická. Už dávno vím, co poslouchají démoni a čím je krmena zmiňovaná bestie. Samozřejmě, CEMETERY URN nahráli album, které smrdí sírou a zazní pokaždé, když se otevře brána do pekla. Mysleli jste si, že víte co je bolest a utrpení? Omyl! Tohle je pravý, nefalšovaný smrtící kov ze starých pohřebišť! Démonické rituály kruté a ošklivé smrti! Urna po okraj narvaná zlem, špínou, tmou a absolutním death metalem!

The songs emerge like ghosts from a bloody fog and have a similar impression on me as the work of INCANTATION, FUNEBRARUM, DISMA, ABOMINATOR, IGNIVOMOUS. CEMETERY URNcombine the best of evil death metal and feel very believable, pure, real. No compromises and uselessness, just coarsely chopped darkness and absolute evil. The gentlemen have invited the best of the best to collaborate with them. The sound was handled by Toyland Studio's master Adam Calaitzis, and the cover art is signed by one of my favorite cover artists, Mark Riddick. If, like me, your favorite thing to smell when you listen is the smell of decomposing bodies and rot, don't hesitate a moment. The album "Suffer the Fallen" will burn you to the ground. I swear it, the undead and all demons. This bunch must have recorded the news deep underground, in long-abandoned catacombs. Amongst the cobwebs that wrap around scabby bones. I like the expression, the handwriting, the way the songs affect me. I've been listening to them for a long time, not in today's evil world. Chodil ulicemi a zanechával za sebou krvavou stopu. Bylo brzy ráno a ani nezahlédl jeho tvář. Tiché temné zákoutí. Záblesk nože, najednou se mu změnil svět. Bojoval o holý život, s nožem zabodnutým v zádech. Další vražda, další bolest. Pohřbí jej za hřbitovní zdí, protože je prokletý, protože je obětí krutého násilného činu. Šli jsme mu na pohřeb a příliš nás nebylo. Poslouchali jsme nové album německých CORROSIVE a rakev pomalu zajížděla do země. Netrvalo dlouho a ozval se z ní podivný nářek.
Prokletí nikdy neumírají a pravý death metal nikdy nezemře. Pokud zde budou podobné kapely, tak o to strach nemám. Je prostým faktem, že sleduji tuhle smečku od jejich počátků (odkazy na recenze najdete dole pod článkem). Líbí se mi směr, jakým se vydali. Do temnoty, do nekonečných chodeb záhrobí.
Jsou to staří psi, kteří hrají opravdově, reálně a uvěřitelně. Volně inspirováni kapelami typu OBITUARY, CARCASS, BOLT THROWER, VOMITORY, MORBID ANGEL, BELPHEGOR i krutým severem, mají svůj styl. A to se mi hodně líbí. Tuhle smečku poznáte během několika okamžiků. Skladby v sobě mají takový ten pradávný drive a sílu. Temnou energii, která se dle mého nedá naučit. Musíte ji mít v sobě, musíte věřit tomu, co hrajete. Možná a nejen proto, se stala novinka "Wrath of the Witch" na dlouhý čas velmi častým hostem v mém přehrávači. Zvuk, obal, celkové provedení, vše je v nejlepším pořádku. Pokaždé, když mám plné zuby dnešního divného negativního světa, tak utíkám pryč, na opuštěné hřbitovy. Ukrývám se ve stínu a poslouchám novou desku. Je totiž po okraj narvaná morbidními melodiemi a pokaždé mě doslova přikove na zeď. Jsem ve staré kobce, daleko od lží a nenávisti, daleko od válek a lidské hlouposti. Přidávám postupně hlasitost, mlátím hlavou do zdi, beru do rukou kladivo a drtím staré prašivé kosti. Bojoval jsem o holý život, s nožem zabodnutým v zádech. Další vražda, další bolest. Poslouchám "Wrath of the Witch" i na druhé straně, na onom světě. Tohle je hudba, kterou ocení všichni opravdoví fanoušci temnoty, přízraky i démoni. Prokletí nikdy neumírají a pravý death metal nikdy nezemře. Temnota a smrt!

Curses never die and true death metal never dies. If there will be similar bands, I'm not worried about that. It's a simple fact that I've been following this pack since their early days (links to reviews can be found at the bottom of the article). I like the direction they've taken. Into the darkness, into the endless corridors of the beyond.
They are old dogs who act real, real and believable. Loosely inspired by bands like OBITUARY, CARCASS, BOLT THROWER, VOMITORY, MORBID ANGEL, BELPHEGOR and the harsh north, they have their own style. And I like that a lot. You'll get to know this pack in a few moments. The songs have that ancient drive and power. A dark energy that I don't think can be taught. You have to have it in you, you have to believe in what you're playing. Maybe and not only because of that, the new song "Wrath of the Witch" became a very frequent guest in my player for a long time. The sound, the cover, the overall performance, everything is in top order. Every time I'm fed up with today's weird negative world, I run away to the abandoned cemeteries. I hide in the shadows and listen to the new record. It is packed to the brim with morbid melodies and literally drives me up the wall every time. I'm in an old dungeon, far from lies and hatred, far from wars and human stupidity. I gradually turn up the volume, bang my head against the wall, pick up a hammer and crush the old, dusty bones. Wrapped in a bloody fog, I wander the streets, breathing in the smell of death. It waits for me around every corner. Quiet, dark corners. The flash of a knife, suddenly my world changes. Moc dobře víš, že když tento lektvar vypiješ, zemřeš. Lidské dějiny jsou plné krve, násilí a boje o moc. MALOKARPATAN se tentokrát vydali na dlouhý výlet do doby císaře Rudolfa II. Opět nám přinášejí zajímavý mix hudebních melodií, které působí velmi svěže, zajímavě. Kapela má již dlouhé roky svůj vlastní rukopis. Stačí mi většinou několik prvních tónů a ihned je poznám. Včera jsem byl v jednom starém chrámu v našem městě. Byla tam výstava morbidních obrazů.
Nějak se mi všechno spojilo v jedno. Poslouchám "Vertumnus Caesar", popíjím prudký jed a doufám, že získám nesmrtelnost. Umírám pomalu, ale hudba nakonec přetrvá věky. Přede mnou se promítá na zeď spousta podivných představ. MALOKARPATAN jsou zpět silnější než kdy dřív.
Zasažen jejich osudem jsem ve starém sklepení. Máme tu laboratoř, jsme kouzelníci, zaříkáváme, objevujeme, proklínáme, mícháme lektvary, které vás uhranou. Zazní jemné odkazy na MASTER´S HAMMER, ROOT, BATHORY, VENOM, MERCYFUL FATE, NEGURA BUNGET, zemitý black metal, náznaky rockové opery, klasický poctivý heavík i progresivní prvky. Prostudujte si texty, jsou opravdu zajímavé. Připadá mi, že MALOKARPATAN vytáhli z archívů spoustu zajímavých a neotřelých motivů. Často si říkám, že podobná hudba se musí poslouchat srdcem. Musí se nechat plynout, jen tak, jako mrtvá voda ze studně. Kapela se nebojí použít různé lidové i klasické nástroje a dělá to velmi elegantně. Slováci na novince dále zdokonalují svoje nápady. Je pro mě hrozně příjemné je poslouchat. Rád se k nové desce stále vracím, nejlépe v noci, když je všude klid. Zavřu oči a najednou jsem na dvoře Rudolfa II., spolu s hvězdáři, vědci, šarlatány i démony. Připadá mi, že skladby jsou napsány krví. Líbí se mi ostrý zvuk kytar, zpracování vokálů, ale hlavně celkový dojem a nálada celého alba. Pokud máte bohatou fantazii a jste hudebními gurmány, mohu vám novou nahrávku jenom doporučit. Struck by their fate, I'm in an old basement. We have a laboratory, we are magicians, we cast spells, we discover, we curse, we mix potions that will enchant you. Just like this record, just like the captivating and playful atmosphere of the whole record. The sound, the cover, the ideas, everything is subordinated to the captivating melodies. There are subtle references to MASTER'S HAMMER, ROOT, BATHORY, VENOM, MERCYFUL FATE, NEGURA BUNGET, earthy black metal, hints of rock opera, classic honest heavy and progressive elements. Study the lyrics, they are really interesting. It seems to me that MALOKARPATAN have pulled out a lot of interesting and fresh themes from the archives. I often think that music like this must be listened to with the heart. It has to be allowed to flow, just like dead water from a well. The band is not afraid to use various folk and classical instruments and does it very elegantly. The Slovaks continue to refine their ideas on the new album. I find it terribly pleasant to listen to them. I like to keep coming back to the new record, preferably at night when it's quiet everywhere. I close my eyes and suddenly I'm in the court of Rudolph II, along with stargazers, scientists, charlatans and demons. It seems to me that the songs are written in blood. I like the crisp sound of the guitars, the processing of the vocals, but most of all the overall feel and mood of the whole album. If you have a rich imagination and are a musical gourmet, I can only recommend this new recording. It sounds like echoes of old times, like a chilling testimony of our history. I'm listening to "Vertumnus Caesar", drinking violent poison and hoping to gain immortality. I'm dying slowly, but the music will eventually last for ages. Díváš se na nůž, který ti zajíždí pomalu do vnitřností. Umřeš a nebo přežiješ? Padáš k zemi s vyděšeným výrazem ve tváři. Temná ulice a záblesk ostří. Každý se dívá raději na jinou stranu, ale nakonec zvítězí zvědavost. Spousta fotek, video, ale nepomůže ti vůbec nikdo. Studená zem, takhle sis svůj odchod z tohoto světa nepředstavoval. Zůstane po tobě jenom kaluž krve a několik bolestivých vzpomínek. Nakonec tě pohltí temnota. Cítíš se úplně stejně, jako když posloucháš nové album německých FLESHWORKS.
Divoký, šílený smrtící kov, který tě přenese na druhou stranu, na onen svět. Propracovaný zvuk, spousta morbidních nápadů, atmosféra chladu, tmy a krve. Myslím, že jsem zde správně. Tohle je pravý, ryzí a masivní death metal!
Brutalita, ale také spousta mrazivých melodií. Ty jsou základem hudby těchto maniaků. Přistupují ke své práci poctivě, uvěřitelně. Vy si tak můžete vychutnat skladby, které vás roztrhají na kusy. Němci sice nepřicházejí s ničím novým, ani převratným, ale jejich řemeslo je velmi dobré. Skladby v sobě mají drive i sílu a dost často si při poslechu připadám, jako bych sledoval čerstvě proříznutou tepnu. Představte si dávno opuštěná jatka, která smrdí zkaženou krví. Prázdné klece umazané krví a bolestí. Uprostřed sálu stojí tahle smečka a drtí staré kosti. Mám rád hudbu, která mě umí přikovat na zeď. Líbí se mi, když kapela nepodcení zvuk i obal. Pánové jsou ve skvělé formě a novinka se myslím opravdu povedla. "Diabolus ex Machina" se mi dostalo pod kůži, vystřelilo mi mozek z hlavy. Kývám se do rytmu a porcuji další maso. Řezníci jsou potřeba i v záhrobí. FLESHWORKS o tom něco vědí. Nálada je temná a chladná, jako ruka mrtvoly. Chodím ulicemi se sluchátky na uších. Neustále se ohlížím, mám totiž pocit, že mě někdo sleduje. Od stěny se odlepí tichý stín. Dívám se na nůž, který mi zajíždí pomalu do vnitřností. Umřu a nebo přežiju? Everyone looks the other way, but in the end, curiosity wins out. Lots of pictures, video, but no one can help you. Cold ground, this is not how you imagined your departure from this world. All you'll have left is a pool of blood and a few painful memories. Eventually, the darkness will consume you. You feel exactly the same as you do when you listen to the new German FLESHWORKS album.
Wild, crazy death metal that transports you to the other side, to the other world. Sophisticated sound, lots of morbid ideas, atmosphere of cold, darkness and blood. I think I'm right here. This is true, pure and massive death metal!
Brutality, but also a lot of chilling melodies. These are the basis of the music of these maniacs. They approach their work honestly, believably. So you can enjoy songs that will tear you apart. The Germans may not come up with anything new or groundbreaking, but their craft is very good. The songs have drive and power to them, and quite often I feel like I'm watching a freshly cut artery while listening. Imagine a long-abandoned slaughterhouse that reeks of tainted blood. Empty cages stained with blood and pain. In the middle of the hall, this pack stands, crushing old bones. I like music that can drive me up the wall. I like it when a band doesn't underestimate the sound or the cover. The guys are in great shape and I think the new stuff is really good. "Diabolus ex Machina" got under my skin, blew my brains out. I sway to the rhythm and carve more meat. Butchers are needed in the afterlife. FLESHWORKS know something about that. The mood is dark and cold, like the hand of a corpse. I walk the streets with headphones on my ears. I keep looking around, because I feel like I'm being watched. A silent shadow peels off the wall. I look at the knife that's slowly going into my guts. Am I going to die or survive? I fall to the ground with a terrified look on my face. A dark street and the flash of a blade. All I'm left with is a pool of blood and a few painful memories. Recenze/review - FLESHWORKS - Engine Of Perdition (2018):
Ave ATROPINE! Greetings to the Polish underground. I hope everything is fine with you. It should be because this year you have released a second full-length album in your band's career. I have to admit it has literally blown my mind. It is dark, energic and as if it cuts by the sharp edge of the knife. I can hear from the record you did a really good job and you added a big portion of the talent, too. How do you perceive the new album in comparison to the previous one? Where did you want to move and in what are these two records different?
[Skiborg -voc.] Hi Jakub, everything is going quite well, thanks, and I must admit that it is also thanks to the second album "Sanity Desecration" released in September. I'm glad you like it and thanks for appreciating it. We spent a lot of time on its final shape and, as we can see from the first opinions, people like what they hear. What differs Death is Coming the most from Sanity Desecration is certainly the fact that on the second album I replaced the previous vocalist and it is clearly audible in the vocal track, and as I did not participate in the creation of the first album, maybe someone else will have more to add.
[Matej – guit.] we didn't want to move with our music to any specific direction, I guess, since - at least for me - Atropine's music is and always was influenced by what we all like in death metal. Which is overall chaos and no bounderies in amount of gore melodies we are bringing in to the pot.
“Sanity Desecration“ includes all attributes of good death metal. For me personally, it represents the record, which I really like to listen to. How did you produce it? How look the writing process of new material in the case of ATROPINE?
[Skiborg] Heh, Thanks again for good words. It usually goes like this: Śmigło brings riffs to rehearsals and together with Lukas (drums) they create the basis of the songs. Our second guitarist, Matej, lives a few hundred kilometers from the rest of the band, so I record the previously created material during rehearsal and send it to Matej, who overdubs his own track. In the meantime, the vocals are created by me and Chomik puts down his bass line. Everyone adds their two cents as they wish. There are no pre-set guidelines by anyone and I think that works great. When everyone has made their own tracks, we meet at a rehearsal and put everything together, and at this stage there are any corrections and discussions about what can be changed to improve the song. Sometimes ideas for corrections come up even after we have final shape of the song and several dozen rehearsals have been played, so the creative process is ongoing all the time.
I found out that Paweł Leniart is signed under the mix and mastering of the new record. I have to confirm that the sound is literally killing. It still makes me add volume to the player. Pawel has created a sound that is cruel, raw and at the same time dark and organic. How went the work with him and why did you choose him? In which studio did you record it? How did the recording process look like?
[Skiborg] Paweł is our good friend and has his own recording studio - Dźwiękonarium Studio here in Rzeszów. Each of us has more or less experience in other bands, and basically all of us have recorded with Paweł at some point. Moreover, Paweł is also into heavy music. He participated in several projects ranging from death/black to folk metal, so he feels this atmosphere in the guts. However, I won't lie - we spent a lot, lot, lot of time creating the final sound of this album. All guitar parts were home recorded by Matej and sent to the studio, where Pawel took a good care of the tracks with further production, while drums were recorded in our rehearsal room under Paweł's watchful ear. Bass and wokals were made at his studio. What's more, process of creating songs and the recording intself took place during the pandemic times, so maybe it has an impact on everyone somehow.
An important part and a kind of extra bonus for fans today is the physical CD. You released the new album at CD through Via Nocturna, and it has a dark cover art. Who is the author? Do I explain well the picture when I would think it is a entering the beyond? How did you choose the motif and how does it relate to the music at the record?
[Skiborg] Whole Sanity Desecration graphics (except the Atropine's logo) was my idea and I created the layout. Well, that wasn't exact intention of the cover art, but if that's what you see, then good, there can be many interpretations and in fact, I'm often curious how others perceive it. But the main idea is humanity's blind, sheep-like rush after something they do not understand. They don't ask questions nor questioning the status quo. In this rush, it is very easy to lose common sense and the ability to self-determine, they simply cannot stop and think. They take things for granted, which in the end turn out to be something completely different. Hence the cover is filled with certain symbolism: a cross in the sky, and pentagram on the gate. Behind the gate there is "heaven" and in the windows there is bloody hell red. And lest anyone misunderstand me, the symbolism used does not matter here. This is just a visualization of the gist of the matter, which is easier to understand. I don't believe in heaven and hell.
I wonder what the lyrics on the new album “Sanity Desecration” are about. Who is the author and where is his inspiration?
[SKIBORG] All the lyrics were written by me. When I joined Atropine before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, half of the songs were already instrumentally ready and had their working names. For the purposes of playing concerts, it was necessary to write not only the lyrics for the new songs, but also to re-write the lyrics for several songs from the first album. The rest of the guys gave me a free hand, so I didn't learn the lyrics written by the previous singer, I just wrote them from scratch. The titles, of course, had to remain, so the themes were sort of predetermined. For example, when writing the lyrics to The mother of Chaos from the first album, I was wondering what the song might be about and I came to the conclusion that the title would perfectly reflect the outbreak of the epidemic. By coincidence, about a month or two later, news of a new disease broke out into the world. The whole album, was not a concept album, I approached each text individually but when all the texts were written, it turned out that most of them deal, more or less, with the weaknesses of society today and, at the same time, the use of this fact by individuals with power, money or people with psychopathic tendencies. Society is slowly being degraded and the world is slowly heading towards destruction, towards division into unaware slaves and their masters. Taking all this together, this is how the title of the entire album was created - "Sanity desecration".
I have been wandering the underground for over thirty years and I still go to Poland for music with certainty. I think we have a similar nature and taste when it comes to metal. I like your bands a lot and I monitor your scene carefully. Maybe I envy you a little, because we only have a few death metal bands that are worth it. How do you explain that black and death metal are doing so well in your country? How do you perceive your scene, fans, labels?
[SKIBORG] I would like to know where it comes from, hehe. Perhaps from our difficult and recent history. The generation of our fathers and grandfathers still remembered the difficult times of the war and what happened after it. Our generation, brought up on such history, perhaps has a bit of anger in it, which is vented by extreme music. I think that this is also influenced by the context of our strongly Catholic culture. Looking at what is currently happening in the catholic church, a knife opens in your pocket. Or we just have talented musicians, haha. Regarding the whole metal scene, I would say it's not what it used to be. Currently, it is visible that the metal society is divided. Some people spit and hate on each other on the Internet. Significantly fewer people go to concerts, everything can be found on the Internet. I think that most people who used to go to concerts have now or in the last few or a dozen years started bands and try to play for the few young or so-called old-timers who still want to get off their asses to a concert. Nowadays, if you're not a world-famous band, it's very difficult for you to attract people to your concert. A similar situation exists with publishers. If you don't have a shitload of YouTube views or followers on facebook, you have little chance of getting a good contract and promotion.
You play devastating death metal influenced by, among other things, the American school. Today, the band can't avoid comparisons, but I would like to know how the idea to start Atropine was born, who was and is your metal idol? Where do you want to move your band? Are you attracted to large foreign festivals, for example, are you willing to go on tour with a more famous band?
[MATEJ] I was sucked into the band (literally couldn't resist) after hearing first florida-death-metal-scene influenced tracks written by Śmigło. It is death I always loved and I simply found a spot here for some lead guitar work.
[SKIBORG] I wasn't in the band from the beginning, so I'll limit myself to answering the second part of the question. Personally, I don't have any idols. I can take something I like from every genre of music. Of course, I have favorite bands, but there are too many to mention. I can only say that I listened to a lot of hard core music as a kid. I thought I wouldn't hear anything better until I heard bands like Samael, Moonspell, Dimmu Borgir, Vader. The first tape with metal music I ever bought was Deicide - Legion. When it comes to large festivals - yes, as much as our free time allows, and if a famous band would like to take us on tour - we are of course open and willing. The presence of a wider audience will certainly have a positive impact on Atropine's development, but most of all we are playing because we love it and metal runs through our veins.
When I started my website six years ago, I had a vision that I would try to support bands that are not so much popular, or they are lost in underground. To let the world knows about them. I think I'm doing quite well, at least according to the responses. How do you approach the promotion of your music? Do you rely upon the label or do you send the CDs for various reviews by yourself? For example, I buy albums that I really enjoy. What about you? Are you also fans who often support your colleagues? Do you go to concerts?
[SKIBORG] And thank you for that. Nowadays it's very hard to get ahead. Most publishers count on easy profit and everyone would like to have under their wings bands that already mean something on the metal scene. Those who play good music but do not have thousands of followers (e.g. due to poor self-promotion or lack of contacts with the right people) are rather ignored. In fact, we're starting to promote ourselves now, after the release of our second album. We decided to use the promotional services of the Solid Rock PR agency, we established cooperation with the Via Nocturna Records label, but we also actively try to promote ourselves. Whether on radio stations or taking part in charts. Two weeks ago, our single "Fallen" won the title of "single of the week" among the Polish Alternative Music community, and thus qualified for voting for the single of autumn 2023. Previously, this area was quite neglected in our team. We also hope that over time we will become more and more popular and more people will hear our music. And yes, we like going to our friends' concerts and drink a few beers with them and listen to good music. We like this atmosphere, hehe.
On the one hand, today the new band has a lot of opportunities to make themselves more known, but on the other hand, there are a huge number of groups and the fans are getting lost in this big metal sea. A lot of people just download mp3s from the internet and instead of to visit the concert they prefer to spit poisonous saliva on Facebook. How do modern technologies affect you as ATROPINE? What do you think about downloading music, google metalists, streaming music, etc.?
[SKIBORG] hmmm, it seems to me that most of that question have already been answered. I miss the days when clubs were packed with people even for unknown or local bands. But these are the times we have. Adapt or die. Social media helps you reach more people, but at the same time, anyone can do it. So everything gets blurred in the sea of hundreds of metal bands you mentioned. You can't take it all in. I think, we also In small steps will try to be present in the wide waters of social media and the Internet.
I like to ask the musicians what death metal means to them. How would they define it, whether it is more the philosophy and lifestyle thing for them or "just" relaxation? What does it mean for you? How do you perceive and experience it?
[MATEJ] It's just a music. I love creating and listening to music and death metal is one of the many forms of it. It might be a lifestyle considering how many hours you are giving to it, but as long as I feel complete and sincere with myself doing so -philosophy doesn't matter.
[SKIBORG] Death metal is certainly not a deeper philosophy for me. I love extreme music and I like making it also. I like its atmosphere and everything associated with it. But I don't make a life philosophy out of it. As in everything, you need to know the golden mean and approach it with common sense. Metal, beer, whiskey, and having fun listening to and making the music you love. Yes, I guess it's a lifestyle, haha.
Finally, a classic but important question. What is ATROPINE planning in the upcoming months?Where can we see you at the stage and when will you visit the Czech and Slovak Republics again?
[SKIBORG] After releasing the album "Sanity Desecration" we want to focus on promoting it and playing concerts. We are currently sending entries to various festivals in Poland. In the meantime, we'll probably play a few smaller concerts. As for the Czech Republic or Slovakia, we will be happy to visit you if there is such an opportunity. We don't have any specific news in this direction yet. For sure, we will start creating new material for the album before the new year.
