Díváš se na svět černě. Vidíš jenom špatné věci. Dokážeš vycítit bolest a zlo. Před lety tě mučili, pálili rozžhaveným železem, znásilnili tvoji mysl i tělo. Dodnes máš noční můry a nikdo se ti neomluvil. S tím sadistou, který ti to způsobil, vyšla jedna kniha, několik rozhovorů a je pečlivě dbáno na to, aby se měl dobře. Spravedlnost je slepá, svět je někdy opravdu zlý. Neustále dokola se ptáš proč? Proč zrovna já?

Dávno už nevěřím v pozemskou spravedlnost, dávno už nevěřím ve vyšší moc. Uctívám jedině poctivý prašivý death metal. Francouzští NIHÏLANTH a jejich první dlouhohrající album "Graceless Planet" mi dali alespoň na nějakou dobu zapomenout na všechny zlé věci, které kolem nás probíhají každý den. Jedná se o desku, která mě doslova přikovala na zeď.


Jako starý death metalový pes mám na nahrávky, které si pustím k tělu, určité požadavky. NIHÏLANTH je všechny splňují bez připomínek. Mají dobrý ostrý a temný zvuk, zajímavý obal (jen si nejsem jistý, zda je vhodné na tak krásný motiv použít logo v tak nevýrazné barvě), ale hlavně mě musí skladby něčím zaujmout. "Graceless Planet" má v sobě velké množství zajímavých nápadů. Klasický, tradiční death metal staré školy je okořeněn lehkými vlivy prvních desek GORGUTS, ADRAMELECH, DEMILICH. Vítejte zpátky v devadesátých letech minulého století! Ve starých plesnivých hrobech, v opuštěných katakombách, mezi nemrtvými. Francouzům se povedlo nejen vystihnout ducha a náladu dávných časů, ale také přidávají kus vlastní invence. Deska sice asi nebude nic moc říkat fanouškům, kteří sledují jen moderní trendy, ale pro nás, staré hrobníky je skvělou příležitostí si nejen zavzpomínat, ale i si vychutnat pořádnou porci syrového masa. Osobně si nejvíc užívám chladnou a temnou atmosféru celého alba. Jako bych se procházel v mlhavých močálech. Díváš se na svět černě. Vidíš jenom špatné věci. Dokážeš vycítit bolest a zlo. Posloucháš "Graceless Planet". Temný, zahnívající death metal staré školy, který vás stáhne do hlubin!

You look at the world in black. You only see bad things. You can feel pain and evil. Years ago you were tortured, burned with red-hot iron, raped your mind and body. You still have nightmares and no one has apologized to you. One book, several interviews have been published with the sadist who caused it to you, and careful care is taken to ensure that he is doing well. Justice is blind, the world is sometimes really bad. You keep asking yourself why? Why me?

I no longer believe in earthly justice, I no longer believe in higher power. I only worship honest dusty death metal. The French NIHILANTH and their first full-length album "Graceless Planet" made me forget, at least for a while, all the bad things that happen around us every day. It's a record that literally pinned me to the wall.




As an old death metal dog, I have certain requirements for recordings that I play. NIHILANTH meet them all without comment. They have a good sharp and dark sound, an interesting cover (I'm just not sure if it's appropriate to use a logo in such an indistinct color for such a beautiful motif), but most of all I have to be interested in the songs. "Graceless Planet" has a lot of interesting ideas. The classic, traditional death metal of the old school is spiced with the light influences of the first records of GORGUTS, ADRAMELECH, DEMILICH. Welcome back to the 1990s! In old moldy graves, in abandoned catacombs, among the undead. The French not only managed to capture the spirit and mood of ancient times, but also added a piece of their own invention. The record probably won't say much to fans who follow only modern trends, but for us, the old gravediggers, it's a great opportunity not only to remember, but also to enjoy a good portion of raw meat. Personally, I enjoy the cool and dark atmosphere of the whole album the most. It's like walking in foggy swamps. You look at the world in black. You only see bad things. You can feel pain and evil. You're listening to "Graceless Planet". Dark, rotting old school death metal that will take you to the depths!

A few questions - interview with death metal band from France - NIHÏLANTH.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

It was formed about ten years ago by Rémi, Mathieu and former bandmates Vincent and Eugène, who met while they were students at the ATLA music school in Paris. But we didn’t have a singer for years, and Antoine, who played with Mathieu in Samarkand, filled in about two years ago. We play death metal, more of an old-school and proggy breed on this album, but we will likely take things in a different direction for the next one - it’s still going to be death metal though!

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering? 

We recorded the album at Hybreed Studios, in Fontenay-sous-Bois near Paris. Producer Andrew Guillotin, who has worked with bands such as Arkhon Infaustus, was in charge of sound, production and mastering. And he did a great job!


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

The album was released on both CD (500 copies) and digitally, on the main streaming platforms. But tape and vinyl would be nice, so who knows!

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with? 

Most of the lyrics were originally written by Rémi and Matthieu, with later editing from Antoine. In the spirit of classical death metal, they mostly deal with sci-fi horror, drawing from literature (H.P. Lovecraft), cinema (David Cronenberg’s The fly) and video games (Dead Space), amongst other things.


Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The album’s cover is a painting by Mariusz Lewandowski (https://www.lewandowski.art/) whose art has been used by other acts such as Psycroptic and Bell Witch. The logo of the band and the graphics for Graceless Planet were handled by the amazing Grégory Lê, as you can read here. 


Well social networks are a good way of keeping in touch with your audience but bands shouldn’t “shitpost” too much or the “magic” will kind of go away! Also “feeding” social networks is time-consuming, but also necessary. So it’s kind of a mixed bag, it’s not bad or good, just the world we happen to live in.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We sent the album to French extreme metal label Great Dane Records, which has a distribution deal with legendary other extreme metal label Listenable Records, they were enthusiastic about it so we went for it, and they’ve managed to get us a lot of reviews and interviews - like this one so it’s all good (so far, haha).

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

For Graceless Planet we mostly drew on classical death metal acts such as Death, Malevolent Creation, Bolt Thrower, Massacra… which we love and also happen to be our main sources of inspiration. We’re looking more towards the tech-death scene for the next album, though. Of course other music, including outside of metal, gets thrown in.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best? 

We haven’t performed live yet with Nihïlanth, but Antoine has played clubs with Samarkand, Rémi played with Hex at the Post in Paris festival, which was pretty awesome, and Matthieu played at a lot of venues with Crushburn in Eastern France. We’d love to play open-air festivals but clubs are also great, anything but streaming concerts basically, haha.


What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We really hope Graceless Planet meets its audience wherever it is in the world. We want to play and hear the album live, and see how the crowd reacts to it! Playing open air festivals would also be a blast. With the second album we hope we can move a little further from Graceless Planet’s influences, bring in different ones (as previously mentioned with regards to tech-death) and refine our own personal sound.

Podívej se démonovi do tváře. Vidíš ty zkažené zuby? Cítíš smradlavý dech? A proč je to zrcadlo popraskané? Dávno už víš, že nemrtví hoří zevnitř, dávno víš, jak vypadá pravé peklo. Smrdí sírou, zkaženou krví a nenávistí. Pálili tě rozžhaveným železem, trhali ti nehty kleštěmi. Lámali tvé tělo v kole, znásilnili duši i tělo. Přesto si neodvolal. Jsi stále věrný pánovi pekel a věříš v pravý, ryzí death metal. 

DRAWN AND QUARTERED se vracejí po třech letech s novým materiálem. Mocnější, majestátnější, šílenější, divočejší. Jakoby v sobě měli nakumulovaný vztek na současný zkažený svět, který přetavili v songy ostré jako břitva. Jedna z mých dlouhodobě nejoblíbenějších kapel vydala další svědectví o zlu, nenávisti a bolestivé smrti.


Kapela se nadále pohybuje v katakombách, kde tvořily a tvoří kapely jako INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, DEAD CONGREGATION, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, ANGELCORPSE, INFESTER. Novinka "Congregation Pestilence" je negací všeho dobrého, s masivním, zničujícím zvukem (http://www.krucyatorstudio.com/), plesnivou atmosférou, chorobným vokálem, ale hlavně se spoustou morbidních momentů. DRAWN AND QUARTERED svůj death metal vybrousili k dokonalosti. Přesně vědí, jak svojí hudbou znázornit pravé nefalšované inferno. Během celého alba se sejdou všichni démoni. Nechybí ani jeden. Sepnou ruce nad obětí v obrácené modlitbě. Neexistuje světlo, jenom nepropustná tma. Jakoby mě někdo při poslechu zavřel do staré kobky, připoutal řetězem ke zdi a chtěl po mě, abych zítra ráno uhořel na hranici. Ďábel má mnoho podob a ta, kterou nám ukazují Američané, má děsivý, hnusný a ošklivý obličej. Nahrubo nasekaná tma, mrtvolný chlad. Protáhlé obličeje nemrtvých. Hoď kamenem, kdo jsi bez viny! Zmiňme i vynikající nádherný obal (Gabriel T. Byrn). Smrt, zlo, nenávist, poklekni a pokloň se temnému death metalu. Jsou kapely, o kterých se píše, že umí vytvořit blasfemii a pak tu jsou DRAWN AND QUARTERED. Démoni ze starých časů, po kterých zůstává jenom spálená země. Ďábelský death metal, který vás roztrhá na kusy! Inferno!

Look the demon in the face. Do you see those rotten teeth? Do you feel stinking breath? And why is the mirror cracked? You have long known that the undead are burning from within, you have long known what true hell looks like. It stinks of sulphur, rotten blood and hatred. They burned you with hot iron, tore your nails with pliers. They broke your body in a circle, raped soul and body. Still, you didn't appeal. You are still loyal to the lord of hell and you believe in real, pure death metal.

DRAWN AND QUARTERED are returning after three years with new material. More powerful, majestic, crazier, wilder. It was as if they had accumulated anger in them today 's corrupt world, which they had transformed into razor - sharp songs. One of my long-time favourite bands has given further evidence of evil, hatred and painful death.


The band continues to move in the catacombs, where bands such as INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, DEAD CONGREGATION, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, ANGELCORPSE, INFESTER have formed and are forming. The new "Congregation Pestilence" is a negation of all good things, with a massive, destructive sound (http://www.krucyatorstudio.com/), moldy atmosphere, sick vocals, but mainly with a lot of morbid moments. DRAWN AND QUARTERED honed their death metal to perfection. They know exactly how to depict a real, unadulterated inferno with their music. All demons will meet throughout the album. Not one is missing. They clasp their hands over the victim in reverse prayer. There is no light, only impenetrable darkness. It was as if someone had locked me in an old dungeon while listening, chained me to the wall, and wanted me burn tomorrow morning. The devil has many forms, and the one the Americans show us has a scary, disgusting, ugly face. Roughly chopped darkness, dead cold. Elongated faces of the undead. Throw a stone, who are you without guilt! Let's mention the excellent beautiful cover (Gabriel T. Byrn). Death, evil, hatred, kneel down and worship the dark death metal. There are bands that are said to be able to create blasphemy and then there are DRAWN AND QUARTERED. Demons from ancient times, after which only scorched earth remains. Devilish death metal that will tear you to pieces! Hell!

Ve starých katakombách, hluboko pod zemí, je uložena jedna stará rakev, o které se říká, že v ní je pochovaný padlý, prokletý mnich. Legendy praví, že drží v rukou knihu sepsanou vlastní krví. Když ji otevřete, tak z ní vyteče zkažený hnis. Je v ní přesně a jasně popsáno, jak se má hrát pravý, ryzí death metal. Již od začátku je mi zcela jasné, že američtí maniaci HAUNTED ji četli velmi pečlivě. Jejich novinka "The Book of Flames" je toho jasným důkazem. Smrdí pravou sírou a smrtí!

Druhé dlouhohrající album je prokletým dílem, které se mi od téhle smečky dostalo do rukou. Minulý rok jsem si opravdu oblíbil jejich předchozí desku "The Legions of Maleficence" (odkaz na recenzi dole pod článkem), která se na dlouhou dobu stala mým průvodcem na onom světě. Satan se usmívá!


"The Book of Flames" je opět mocným, masivním rouháním, které nenechá nikoho na pochybách, že pravé peklo opravdu existuje. HAUNTED jsou stále inspirováni kapelami typu DEICIDE, PERDITION TEMPLE, CRUCIFIER, IMPRECATION, DIABOLIC. Letos přidávají spoustu svých nápadů, černých a pochmurných nálad. Novinka je ještě temnější, surovější, divočejší. Přidávám volume a mám neodbytný pocit, že se přede mnou začíná probouzet monstrum, bestie z dávných časů. Smrdí jí z tlamy a lační po krvi. Nové album má skvělý, syrový  zvuk, stylový obal, ale hlavně velkou sílu, vnitřní tlak a energii. "The Book of Flames" vlastně není jen obyčejnou nahrávkou, ale spíše rituálem pro vyvolání samotného Satana. Další skladba, další úder přímo na solar plexus. Obraťte kříže směrem dolů, sepište novou knihu o smrti a nenávisti. Líbí se mi, jak jsou skladby sepsány, jak gradují, mají jasný a zřetelný cíl - pohřbít vás zaživa. Pentagramy hoří do tmy, oběť je připravena. Podívej se jí do tváře, jsi to ty sám, pronásledovaný vlastními démony. Ve starých katakombách, hluboko pod zemí, je uložena jedna stará rakev, o které se říká, že v ní je pochovaný padlý, prokletý mnich. Legendy praví, že drží v rukou knihu sepsanou vlastní krví. Má v rukou i novou desku "The Book of Flames". Ďábelský death metalový rituál! Blasfemie!

In the old catacombs, deep underground, there is an old coffin that is said to contain a fallen, cursed monk. Legends say he holds a book written in his own blood. When you open it, it oozes corrupted pus. It describes exactly and clearly how to play true, pure death metal. From the very beginning it is clear to me that the American maniacs HAUNTED have read it very carefully. Their new release "The Book of Flames" is a clear proof of that. It reeks of true brimstone and death!

The second full-length album is the damnedest thing I've gotten my hands on from this pack. Last year I really liked their previous album "The Legions of Maleficence" (link to review below), which became my guide to the hereafter for a long time. Satan is smiling!


"The Book of Flames" is once again a powerful, massive blasphemy that will leave no one in doubt that the real hell really exists. HAUNTED are still inspired by bands like DEICIDE, PERDITION TEMPLE, CRUCIFIER, IMPRECATION, DIABOLIC. This year they add a lot of their own ideas, black and gloomy moods. The new stuff is even darker, rawer, wilder. I turn up the volume and I have the insistent feeling that a monster is beginning to awaken before me, a beast from ancient times. It stinks from its mouth and hungers for blood. The new album has a great, raw sound, stylish artwork, but most of all a great power, inner pressure and energy. "The Book of Flames" is actually not just an ordinary record, but rather a ritual to summon Satan himself. Another track, another strike directly on the solar plexus. Turn the crosses downward, write a new book about death and hate. I like the way the songs are written, how they graduate, they have a clear and distinct goal - to bury you alive. The pentagrams burn into the darkness, the sacrifice is ready. Look into her face, it's you, haunted by your own demons. In the old catacombs, deep underground, there is an old coffin, said to hold a fallen, cursed monk. Legends say he holds a book written in his own blood. Vždycky, když jsem vezl dolů do sklepa další tělo, tak jsem měl pocit, že každou chvíli obživne a vysaje ze mě mozek. Nade mnou blikala špatně seřízená světla a patologové měli vždycky černý humor. Dělal jsem v nemocnici dlouhých dvacet let a postupně si zvykal na pach smrti. Byl jsem cítit desinfekcí a nešlo to vůbec vyčistit. Dnes bylo všechno jiné. Mám na uších sluchátka a v nich nové EP švédských GENERAL SURGERY. Vezu zrovna oběť násilného činu. Už ve výtahu jsem si chvíli myslel, že se tělo pohnulo. Občas se mi to stávalo, jenže dnes to bylo doopravdy. Pak už si nepamatuji nic. Jenom bolest v krku, to když mi prokousla tepnu.

Odejít ze světa můžete různými způsoby, ale já jsem na tohle velký tradicionalista. Mám rád starý death metal, prašivý grindcore a na každou novou desku se jako správný fanoušek hrozně těším. GENERAL SURGERY mě provází od mého mládí a jako u každé staré kapely jsem přeci jen napnutý, jestli mě nezklamou. Občas se to stává. Ale mohu vás uklidnit. Pánové rozhodně neztratili touhu po krvi, stále umí vytvořit pořádný tlak a operovat vás zaživa.


Mám rád smečky na které je spolehnutí. GENERAL SURGERY patří mezi ně. "Lay Down and Be Counted" je albem, které vás naporcuje na malé kousky. Jak už je dobrým zvykem, má velmi dobrý zvuk (Dan Randall), pandemický obal (Per Wiberg). Po řemeslné stránce nelze seveřanům nic vytknout. Psát o této smečce, že ji lze stylově zařadit po bok kapel jako CARCASS, DISMEMBER, je asi zbytečné, stejně jako to, že už asi nikdy nepřijdou s ničím vyloženě novým. Vůbec mi to nevadí. Dostal jsem přesně to, co požaduji - vanu plnou krve, ještě teplých orgánů, ostrých riffů, masa trhaného od kosti a několik tun černé energie. Podobné nahrávky se musí opravdu poslouchat v opuštěných nemocnicích, ve starých pitevnách, případně na jatkách. GENERAL SURGERY si stále zachovávají svoji kvalitu. Novinku mě zkrátka baví poslouchat. A je úplně jedno, jestli jsem zrovna v našem nebo na onom světě. Švédi jsou po všech těch letech stále v dobré formě a dokáží vám rozsekat ksicht do krve. Syrový, chladný a temný death metal, goregrind a atmosféra známá z veřejných pitev. Klasický masakr motorovou pilou! Velmi dobře!

Every time I drove another body down to the cellar, I felt like it was coming to life and sucking my brain out at any moment. Poorly adjusted lights flashed above me, and pathologists always had black humor. I worked in the hospital for twenty long years and gradually got used to the smell of death. I could smell disinfectant and it couldn't be cleaned at all. Today everything was different. I have headphones on my ears and the new EP of Swedish GENERAL SURGERY in them. I'm just taking a victim of a violent act. Already in the elevator, I thought for a moment that the body had moved. Sometimes it happened to me, but today it was for real. Then I don't remember anything. Just a sore throat when it bit my artery.

You can leave the world in different ways, but I'm a great traditionalist for this. I like old death metal, dusty grindcore and I'm really looking forward to every new record as a good fan. GENERAL SURGERY has been with me since my youth, and as with any old band, I'm still tense if they don't let me down. Sometimes it happens. But I can calm you down. Gentlemen have certainly not lost their desire for blood, they can still put up a lot of pressure and operate on you alive.


I like packs you can count on. GENERAL SURGERY is one of them. "Lay Down and Be Counted" is an album that cuts you into small pieces. As is customary, it has a very good sound (Dan Randall), a pandemic cover (Per Wiberg). In terms of craftsmanship, the Northerners cannot be blamed. Writing about this pack, that it can be stylistically placed alongside bands like CARCASS, DISMEMBER, is probably useless, as well as the fact that they will probably never come up with anything downright new. I do not mind at all. I got exactly what I wanted — a tub full of blood, still warm organs, sharp riffs, bone-ripped meat and a few tons of black energy. Similar recordings must really be listened to in abandoned hospitals, in old autopsies, or in slaughterhouses. GENERAL SURGERY still maintains its quality. I simply enjoy listening to the news. And it doesn't matter if I'm in our world or in the next. After all these years, the Swedes are still in good shape and can cut your face into blood. Raw, cool and dark death metal, goregrind and atmosphere known from public autopsies. A classic chainsaw massacre! Very good!

Nejdřív jsem vůbec netušil, že jsem v jiné dimenzi. Vše vypadalo úplně stejně jako v realitě. Jen jsem měl divný pocit kolem žaludku. Lidé kolem měli mrtvé černé oči. Navzájem se pojídali, trápili, mučili, znásilňovali. Často bez důvodu, jen tak, pro vlastní požitek nebo zábavu. Někdy stačilo falešné obvinění, lehký vtip, který ostatní nepochopili. Vláčeli vás bahnem, soudili a nakonec popravili. Všechno zde bylo ostřejší, pálivější. Časem jsem ztratil pojem o tom, co je pravda a co lež. V jednotě je síla, říkali stále dokola a jiný názor se nepřipouštěl. Utekl jsem, jako vždy do podzemí, abych oživil staré stroje na zabíjení. Jinak to nešlo. Začít znovu, měli bychom restartovat a začít znovu.

Každá hudba, kterou si pustím, tak ve mě probouzí nějaké emoce. Pokud ne, tak ji neposlouchám. Na PESTILENCE si hodně potrpím, mám je rád ve všech jejich podobách. Staré klasické prašivé desky, i nové progresivnější a techničtější. Letos se jim opět povedlo namíchat hodně smrtící koktejl. Na tradičních základech, které tato kapela sama položila, jsou vystavěny pestré a zajímavé motivy. Komplikovanější pasáže se potkávají se smrtí v podobě, v jaké ji všichni známe. Patrick Mameli opět drží vše pevně v rukou a jeho kolegové mu velmi zdatně sekundují. 


Takto mám PESTILENCE nejraději. Když mají kvělý, masivní a hutný zvuk (Patrick Mameli a Jory Hogeveen), ostré riffy, surový rytmus, k tomu typické a nezaměnitelné melodie. Nic není "zbytečně" nepřehledné, songy mají jasný řád a směr. Obal se také povedl (Michał "Xaay" Loranc), připomíná mi ilustrace ke starým sci-fi knihám. Budoucnost v podání PESTILENCE je temná, děsivá, hrozivá. Poslední roky mám bohužel pocit, že se tento názor začíná nebezpečně blížit pravdě. U "Exitivm" nemá cenu rozebírat jednotlivé skladby. Album se musí poslouchat v kuse, nechat na sebe působit, užívat si jej. Líbí se mi, že si tuhle smečku s nikým jiným nespletete, to se dneska platí krví! Pánové sice neposouvají death metal dále, ale jsou jasně rozpoznatelní. Dokáží být syroví, temní, chladní, jako staré kapely z devadesátých let a zároveň ostří, zajímaví a současní. Všemu nasazuje korunu jedovatý Patrickův hlas, který si s nikým jiným také nespletete. "Exitivm" je komplexní, popracovaným a velmi inteligentně složenou deskou, zároveň svým způsobem šílenou a zničující. Můžete si ji užívat jen tak, ale zároveň vás donutí přemýšlet, pokud jí to dovolíte. Navíc, atmosféra nahrávky je doslova magická. Chci se k ní stále vracet (a činím tak opravdu rád), znovu a znovu vstupovat do jiné dimenze. Nějak podvědomě cítím, že svět se řítí do záhuby. Hrát nám k tomu budou PESTILENCE, na to vezměte jed! Absolutně temné, zabijácké, death metalové album, které vás rozdrtí na prach!

At first, I had no idea I was in another dimension. Everything looked the same as in reality. I just had a strange feeling in my stomach. The people around me had dead black eyes. Eating each other, torturing, torturing, raping. Often for no reason, just for their enjoyment or entertainment. Sometimes all it took was a false accusation, a light joke that the others didn't get. You were dragged through the mud, tried and eventually executed. Everything here was sharper, hotter. Over time, I lost track of what was true and what was false. There is strength in unity, they said over and over again, and no other opinion was allowed. I fled, as I always did, to the underground to revive the old killing machines. There was no other way. To start again, we should restart and start again.

Every music that I listen to brings out some emotion in me. If it doesn't, I don't listen to it. I like PESTILENCE a lot, I like them in all their forms. The old classic dusty records, and the new more progressive and technical ones. This year they managed to mix a very deadly cocktail again. Colourful and interesting themes are built on the traditional foundations that this band laid themselves. More complicated passages meet death as we all know it. Patrick Mameli once again holds everything firmly in his hands and his colleagues follow him very ably.


This is how I like PESTILENCE best. When they have a floral, massive and dense sound (Patrick Mameli and Jory Hogeveen), sharp riffs, raw rhythm, plus typical and unmistakable melodies. Nothing is "unnecessarily" cluttered, the songs have a clear order and direction. The cover art is also good (Michał "Xaay" Loranc), it reminds me of illustrations for old sci-fi books. The future as performed by PESTILENCE is dark, scary, threatening. Unfortunately, in recent years I have the feeling that this view is getting dangerously close to the truth. there is no point in discussing individual tracks with "Exitivm". The album must be listened to in one piece, let it affect you, enjoy it. I like that you won't confuse this pack with anyone else, that's paid in blood these days! Gentlemen don't push death metal further, but they are clearly recognizable. They can be raw, dark, cold, like the old bands from the nineties and at the same time sharp, interesting and contemporary. All this is crowned by Patrick's venomous voice, which you won't mistake for anyone else's either. "Exitivm" is a complex, polished and very intelligently composed record, at the same time insane and devastating in its way. You can just enjoy it, but it will also make you think if you let it. Plus, the atmosphere of the record is magical. I want to keep coming back to it (and I really like doing so), entering another dimension again and again. Somehow, subconsciously, I feel that the world is going down the drain. PESTILENCE will play to that, take poison! Absolutely dark, killer, death metal album that will crush you to dust!

Příběh tří stý pátý - Plaské momentky.

Dva týdny jsem pořádně nespal. Když jsem byl na intru v Plasích, tak jsem raději jezdil do Plzně a tam se toulal ulicemi. Mí dva spolubydlící vesele onanovali dál a měli řeči, že se mi svíraly pěsti. Ne, nemůžeš ho praštit. Je to sice debil, ale budeš mít jen problémy. Tohle nejsou chlapi v dělnický hospodě. Už jednou jsem ho chtěl proplesknout. Když jsem našel ve sprše...no bylo to nechutný. Studentíci, odtržený od obyčejnýho života. Klíží se mi oči na přednáškách a občas dostávám záchvaty paniky. Jednou usnu na lavičce před školou a všichni na mě koukají jako na vyvrhele. Pořád. Máme nějaká cvičení, ale s nikým se moc nebavím. Jen s Karlosem. Protože je metalista, kouří Startky bez filtru a vůbec je to dobrej kluk. Cítí se trošku jako já. Jenže je z Plzně a nemá moc čas.

Nějaký hospody absolvujeme, pokecáme, jsme stejné krve, ale jak bydlím pořád v Plasích, tak je to komplikovaný. Zrovna jsem přijel a dávám si pozdní oběd. Měli jsme krátkej den a říkám si, že bych měl se sebou něco dělat. Určitě to znáte, takový ty záchvaty, kdy si hlídáte, co jíte, co říkáte, kontrolujete se. Stanete se sice trošku nudnými, ale tělo si odpočine. Pořád jsem přemýšlel, co budu dělat. Koníčkem mi byl samozřejmě metal. Hledal jsem ale něco, čím bych zabil čas. Občasné volejbaly s holkama z intru byly super, mé kamarádky blondýnka a tmavovláska by si myslím daly časem říct, ale nějak jsem si uvědomil, že bych tím ubližoval Ester. Paradox, co? Moje víkendová holka. Chtěl jsem ji mít pořád u sebe. Těšil jsem se na pátek, ale co do té doby?

Nic proti Plasům, ale je to celkem prdel. Hezká, ale pořád prdel. Jsem zvyklej na města, ne na pár baráků, hospodu a jinak nic. Zábavy, které tedy na Plzeňsku byly něco šíleného (hudebně), byly o víkendu a to jsem tam zase nebyl já. Dneska si dám utopence, řeknu panu vedoucímu. Naloží mi pěkně, pivo tu mají dobré. Kdybych si jenom vzpomněl, jak se ta hospoda jmenovala. Každopádně jsem si tam dal vždycky jídlo a vyrazil do lesů. Mě to bavilo vždycky, toulat se. A okolí Plasů je nádherné. Měl jsem ale jeden velkej problém. Otec se odstěhoval od mámy a vzal si i foťák. Starou dobrou Praktiku, kterou jsem tak rád fotil. Připadal jsem si jako bezrukej. Kolikrát jsem se přistihl, že stojím na nějakém místě a úplně před sebou fotku vidím. Já tedy nikdy nebyl týpek, co si s druhým poměřuje velikost objektivu, ale fotil jsem dycinky rád.

Měl jsem ještě nějaký peníze z práce, ale postupně docházely. Asi budu muset sehnat nějakou brigádu. Uvidíme. Nemít prachy pro mě sice nebylo nic moc nového, ale když začnete pracovat a máte svý jistý, tak si hrozně špatně zase odvykáte. Všichni do mě hučeli, jak si mám šetřit, ale mě dělalo fakt dobře pozvat kamarády na panáka. To to potom lítá na všechny strany. Kousek od prodejny Music Records bylo starý Foto Kino. Digitály byly v plenkách, hrozně drahý, ale našel jsem tam v bazaru krásnej kousek. Sony. Moje oblíbená značka kazet, to nemůže bejt špatný. Nebylo, s foťákem jsem se rychle naučil. Navštívil jsem klášter v Plasích, byl jsem samouk, jako vlastně ve všem, co mě baví. Nějak jsem neřešil technické věci, spíš jsem se soustředil na to, aby se fotky líbily mě. 

Holky z intru jsem vyfotil na památku na volejbale. Pak se šlo chlastat. Ukrutně a jak to tak bývá, tak jsme dohodli focení. Nikdy bych nevěřil, že zrovna tohle bude fungovat. Stokrát jsem si říkal, že si dám od ženských pokoj, naschvál jsem si promítal před sebe obrázek Ester, ale vždyť přece nemusí k ničemu dojít. Byl jsem mladej a neměl pevnou vůli. K ničemu nedošlo, ale mohlo. Holky byly samozřejmě krásný, oblečky dnes už vtipný, ale mělo to své kouzlo. Chichotaly se a právě v těch chvílích byly nejkrásnější, když byly ještě oblečené, jen s odhalenými rameny, s prdelkami. Pár panáků a myslím, že jsem mohl mít obě dvě. Snad jsem je nezklamal. Snažil jsem se tvářit jako děsněj profík a pořád dokola opakoval, že fotograf nikdy nesmí s modelkami spát. Protože jinak z toho vyprchá touha a umění. Já byl ale dobrej blbec!

Lokace - les někde u Plasů. Modelky - blondýnka a černovláska. Fotograf - ten, jenž byl kdysi Smrťákem. Slečny dělají smyslný pohledy, okoukaný z Lea a slavných fotografií. Já cvakám a pořád nemůžu uvěřit tomu, že to bylo tak snadný je přemluvit. Hele, žádný porno, vlastně to ani nebyly pořádný akty. Já tomu zase tak nerozuměl, ale byla sranda. Jedna u pařezu, druhá za borovicí. V mlází, kde ji podrápou ostré háčky ostružin prdelku. Klíště, který se přicucne na záda. Rum a vodka. Postavený na zmiňovaném pařezu. Vedle kazeťák a potkali jsme i pár vyděšených houbařů, kteří hlásili něco o orgiích a že to snad není možný, už ani v tom lese není klid. Práce se musí zapít a v hospodě jsme se k sobě tulili jako milenci. Odvedl jsem je ale na večerku na intr. Fotky nechal vyvolat v Plzni a nenechal si ani filmy. Na památku, jako vždycky.

Je to hezký koníček, fotit. Když je co. Film měl tu výhodu, že jste si museli stokrát rozmyslet, co a jak vyfotíte. Vzpomínám na tu dobu hrozně rád. Informace se čerpaly z časopisů, který jsem si objednával do trafiky v Plasích. Byl jsem v tomhle městečku tři měsíce a zažil toho zase na dva roky. Chodil jsem po okolí, sledoval lidi. Mimo holek jsem se ale s nikým moc nebavil. Trošku jsem svoji proměnu nechápal. Jsem to vůbec já? Ještě před pár měsíci jsem zářil jako jasná hvězda po hospodách v Boleslavi. A najednou jsem rád jen s foťákem. Škola mě moc nebavila, ale to jsem čekal. Technické obory nejsou moc zajímavé v tom smyslu, že je to spíš o logice a jasně daných pravidlech. Zatím to nevadilo, zkoušky byly daleko. 

Zajímavé je, že si přesně pamatuji některé situace. Třeba jak jdu po ulici v Plasích, proti mě nějaká slečna. Mám v ruce foťák a drze se zeptám, jestli si ji můžu vyfotit. Usměje se, přikývne a já z ruky nahodím fotku, kterou si pak neustále otáčím v ruce. Dodnes nevím, kdo ta krásná neznámá byla. Žádná prvoplánová obyčejná krasavice, ale dívka s úžasným úsměvem. Myslel jsem na ni, i když jsem šel spát. Ještě tři dny a budu zase u Ester. Než si na Plzeň zvyknu, bude to asi ještě nadlouho. Pořád si připadám děsně sám. Se spolubydlícími se sotva pozdravíme. Já jim přijdu jako neomalený debil a vyvrhel, oni mě jako onanisti, kteří si hrají na bůhví co. Tohle nemůže nikdy fungovat. Hergot, já vyrostl na sídlišti, mezi dělníky. Jak se mám stát intelektuálem? Asi to nechám koňovi, ten má větší hlavu. Usnu a zdá se mi, že mi holky nakonec fakt dají. 

Vize je taková, že každou neděli vyjde jeden příběh (pokud mi do toho tedy něco nevleze). Všechny pak budou postupně doplňovány zde (pravý sloupec na stránkách):

Ave MACABRE DECAY! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole MACABRE DECAY history.

Well it all started 2014 in the ruins after a band called Afterlife.Fredrik Gunnarsson is the only member left from that time.Henka Andersson joined 2014 Henke Edlund around 2015 and Martin Knutar around 2018. We first recorded an ep 2016 and after that we did our first fulllenght Purgatory wich was released 2018. 2019 we released another ep bloodsoaked wich was recorded completly live. 2020 we signed with grind to death records and will release our new beast through them in june 2021.


I’m just listening to your new record „Into Oblivion“ and I feel like as if I am closed in some tomb together with DIMEMEBER, ENTRAILS, ENTOMBED, NIHILIST, DEATH, CARCASS, BOLT THROWER. The record has a great dark sound. Where did you record it and how satisfied you are with it? Did you have the "last word" concerning the resulting sound?

Thank you, it was recorded in studio Dorftrottel with Andreas Bagge Baglien.we are very satisfied with the way it turned out. Andreas did the first mix and after some discussion and small changes it sounded great. He was also responsible for the mastering.

How was the new material for album „Into Oblivion“ created? How exactly MACABRE DECAY writes the music?

We wrote songs over quiet a long time and at some point we choosed a few of them to be on the next recording. We did not have any specific plans for the release of it but we knew it wouldnt be on the same label as Purgatory. When everything was recorded and done we reached out to some labels and found grind to death. And so far it has been a really smoth ride to work with them. Most song are created from a idea of a song and tried out in the rehearsal place.every song is written by the band and everybody chips in with something.


„Into Oblivion“ has dark cover art. Who is an author? I really like his work. How did you actually choose the idea of the cover and what exactly illustrates?

The fantastic cover art is made by Niklas Webjörn and it was Jimmy at Grind to death who helped us wit that contact. We just said we wanted it oldschool and brutal and gave him the recording of the album. He made a sketch and after that it was a go.

Could you reveal us who is an author of the lyrics and what is their background? Where did you take inspiration for certain topics?

We all help out in writing lyrics. For me personally (Henka) Im inspired by everything about death murder and pain. And Henke has done some about the lunacy of religon. In the end the most important is that it sounds good rather than have a deep meaning.


You play music as old as death metal itself. How do you perceive new directions in the death metal? I mean mixing with death core or technical death metal? Do you have any favourite bands in “modern metal”?

Haha we are as old as deathmetal. Realy dont like any new kinds of deathcore and so on. Death metal is perfect the way it has always been so dont feel any need to change it.

I do like many new bands but not the ones trying to reinvent and change it to something. On the other hand i am a old grumpy fuck.

What about MACABRE DECAY and concerts? Do you play a lot? Are you going on tour or you are choosing only bigger festivals? And what about touring over Europe?

Macabre Decay loves to play live. Thats why we are doing this.

We would love to do a tour across Europe as long as we can afford it and not loose to much money. We would love to do festivals to but so far gefle metal 2019 is the only festival we played and that was great. At this point we never played outside of Sweden but hope for a change there.


Can you recommend some new albums, which impressed you at the latest time?

Demonical, The Generals, Goathead,Caedem,Benediction,Necrophobic.

Has all released great music in the near past.

Do you know and listen to some metal bands from the Czech Republic?

Cant say i know of any Czech bands that i listen to.

Ill try to change that.I do love your beer though.

We are slowly approaching the end of the interview so I would like to ask one more philosophical question. How would you define the death metal style? What represents this music for you and why did you choose exactly this genre?

For me personally it all started with punk. Then came Slayer, Metallica, Exodus and so on. But first time i saw Entombed live in 89 it changed things and after that it has been most death metal for me. Probably cause it was so extreme and new and full of aggression.


What MACABRE DECAY is planning for the next few months?

Next weekend we will record bass and vocals for a couple of songs. In Dorftrottel studio these will end up on something probably later this year. 16/6 we will have some kind of releaseparty in our rehearsal. And after that we will rehearse a setlist for gigs to come and start working on new material.
