A few questions - interview with death metal band from Australia - MORTUARY SICKNESS.

Recenze/review - MORTUARY SICKNESS - What Lies Beyond... (2024):

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

The band started out as a side project around the start of 2019, the original 3 members were all playing in a grindcore band together and started jamming out Death Metal and it evolved from there.

The style has changed up quite a lot since those early days, as we had more of a focus on playing a brutal death / grind style of music, but as we got more comfortable and played together more the sound started naturally evolving. Fast forward 4 years and we introduced some new members that each brought their own influences and really helped shape the final sound that you hear on the record today.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We are lucky to have a large factory that we can rehearse and record at it, this no doubt helped shape the sound as it was a great environment to zone in for rehearsal sessions.

We also recorded the drums for the album here, using all our own equipment, the open factory allowed for a clean drum sound as there was almost no mic bleed on the drum kit which helped the mixing process.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Currently the Vinyl release is limited to 150 copies, however we may do further runs in the future.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Our guitarist Cal wrote most of the lyrics, lyrical themes varied from song to song, however the common theme is around life, death and the philosophy behind it, relating to more general day to day life and the encounters you have.

There are elements of gore in there, however mostly based around the human mind

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

The logo was created by our very own bass player T-bone (@l0g0sbytb0ne ) the album art was Rudi / Gorging Suicide (@rudigorgingsuicide)

Social networking is important, at the end of the day we are wanting to get our music into the hands of as many people as possible and being an underground band from Australia, social media and blogs (like yourselfs) are the best ways to do that.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We self released this under our own label as we wanted to keep as much of the album production and release in house as possible.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

The inspirations will vary heavily from each member of the band, there are elements of Traditional Death metal, European death metal, 90's black metal and doom metal to name a few.

However even elements of blues and fusion bands can come up from time to time.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

We did enquire with a few labels, in Aus and around the world, however due to release schedules being 12-18 months in most cases, we decided to self-release this album and look for a label while we continue to write our follow-up album.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

The various incarnations of Mortuary Sickness have done around 20 shows with standouts being supporting Stalker (NZ) at a dive bar and A Mixed Bill with Australian Outlaw Wrestling (Which Features the Goat of Australian Wrestling Gore). In short we love shows where we are right in the punters face and having a beer fuelled good time.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Write new album, play some more shows, increase fan reach globally, create something new and unique in the Death Metal category

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?
